An international team of climate experts known as the World Weather Attribution initiative analyzed the late June heatwave in the U.S. Pacific Northwest and came to a preliminary conclusion that it was a roughly 1-in-1,000-year event.
The extreme weather has bent roads, melted power cables, and triggered heat warnings for 50 million people in North America.
But other continents are suffering too. In Europe, for example, a massive forest fire is ravaging Greece for the 7th day.
However, pictures often speak louder than words. So Bored Panda compiled a collection of vivid images that perfectly sum up how the high temperatures have affected people and their surroundings this summer.

If your dog has to stay outside, find them a real home where someone will make them part of the family!!!
Agreed. My 11 year old labrador never spent a single night outside. She has her own reclining chair and we keep our 24 foot pool just for her, even if she's old, she loves to take quick dips in the pool. She is a part of the family and as such, she should have what she likes.

Extreme heat might not sound as dramatic as hurricanes or floods, but the National Weather Service has deemed it the deadliest weather phenomenon in the US over the past 30 years, on average. And by far.
Of course, a heatwave in one state might not be a heatwave in another; the definition is usually relative to local weather conditions, with sustained temperatures in the 90th to 95th percentile of the average in a given area. So the threshold for a heatwave in Tucson is higher than the threshold in Seattle.

As Umair Irfan pointed out for Vox, heatwaves begin with a high-pressure system (also known as an anticyclone), where atmospheric pressure above an area builds up. That creates a sinking column of air that compresses, heats up, and oftentimes also dries out.
The sinking air acts as a cap or a heat dome and traps the latent heat already absorbed by the landscape. The high-pressure system also pushes out cooler, fast-moving air currents and squeezes clouds away, which gives the sun an unobstructed line of sight to the ground.
The ground — soil, sand, concrete, and asphalt — is then free to bake, and in the long days and short nights of summer, heat energy quickly accumulates and temperatures climb.
Giving Water To A Dehydrated Bunny In 100-Degree Heat
I have been reading how people in particularly hot areas have been putting out small pools and bowls of water for wildlife. I saw a picture somewhere of a little pool full of baby raccoons, and another full of deer. I hope folks will continue to care for the animals as the world melts.
i have an in ground pool and weve been having issues this year with keeping it clean. i have a feeling all sorts of wildlife r going for a swim. my father in law did everything to see wat the probably was and no issues anywhere. weve already seen a family of ducks come flying in and land in our pool we let them hang out before letting the dog out. she would just bark at them but still

Heatwaves typically last around five days, but can stick around for longer if the high-pressure system is blocked in place. “In some cases, you actually can get these kinds of patterns getting stuck, and that can lead to heat waves lasting much longer,” Karen McKinnon, an assistant professor of environment and sustainability at the University of California Los Angeles, told Vox.
Eventually, the high-pressure system will weaken, allowing in cooler air and precipitation that can bring the heatwave to an end. However, as the warm season continues, more high-pressure systems can settle in and restart the process.

The Heatwave In Britain Made These Cans Explode In The Vending Machine
I'm just asking and being for real do they not have a cooling system in these
The refrigeration system in a vending machine can only handle so much load. What likely happened is the compressor either tripped on thermal overload, or a high-pressure control turned the system off to prevent damage. That left the vending machine as a bit of a greenhouse and the cans heated up until they burst.

This Is What Happens When You Try To Display Candles On A Hot Patio
Well, obviously they wouldn’t want to stay out on the patio longer than necessary, so they brought it in.

A good farmer provides. And I provide for strays. Also wild animals. We are in mild drought, with high heat here, so we're taking turns filling bins for wild animals to drink from.

Such a myth that it's is happening right now, and cutting emissions is pretty much something we had to do 30 years ago, and now the only way forward is "adapt infrastructure and lifestyles, b/c this b*tch ain't turning around any time soon". Third-generation eco-nut, and we're past that tipping point, but people keep finding reasons we aren't. Nope. Reality check: Global Warming Is HERE. The climate HAS changed. It's not longer "the day after tomorrow".... it's now.

Yep. And sadly, this is just the beginning. It will get so much worse they say.

Just a request to everyone that lives in a hot, dry area, please set out containers (buckets, bowls, whatever) of water (if possible) for our wild friends. It could make a life saving difference.
you can easily get heat stroke or heat exhaustion if you work outside in these temps... study up online on the many resources there about what to do if you or a co-worker starts to go down with heat exhaustion... I live in Texas, and have had to work outside all day in 109 degF (43 degC) temps before... yep, had heat exhaustion with cramps, sweated out until the skin went dry & turned blue... call for help if you get to this point, go take a cold shower with clothes on if necessary, drink plenty of liquids... put ice packs around the head, in the armpits, and in the groin area to pull the heat out of the body. Put one level teaspoon of salt in a quart of very cold ice water to make your own quick & easy electrolyte solution.. Drink it all slowly. Repeat if necessary. If you are so dehydrated that you can't keep it down, GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM... You are in big trouble. A heat stroke can turn into a real stroke. You could be in a wheelchair the rest of your life if you don't deal with this. Also don't drink anything with caffeine in it since this will increase the blood pressure & the possibility of a real stroke. THIS IS SERIOUS, FOLKS!
Climate *change* isn't only hot weather, it's all these changes.
Load More Replies...I need to say this again in these comments but NEVER give your dog ice or allow them to drink iced water or lay on ice. Ice actually raises their core temperature which leads to heat stroke which we know can be fatal - and very quickly - in dogs. You are far safer to let them drink tap water and dampen a bath towel which you can then rub on their fur.
where i live, the weather is 32-34 (celsius), sometimes even 35 or 36, but the weather report says it feels like 37. additionally, when it is raining, temperatures can dip to 21, which isn't normal here as i live in a place where it is tropical
