Cat behavior is a great reminder that just because you think of some piece of property as yours, this is just a human legal formality and hardly applies anywhere else. Cat owners already know that their pets will range as far and wide as they can manage, but what is truly confusing is when one encounters a cat that isn’t even theirs.
The “My house, not my cat” Facebook page is dedicated to those hilarious, if unnerving moments when people come home to find a strange feline just hanging out. So get as comfortable as the cats here, upvote your favorites, and be sure to comment your thoughts below.

I Now Apparently Have My Own Orange. This Dude Showed Up At My House, Ran Inside And Refused To Leave. No Microchip And No Claimants. He Now Responds To The Name Carrot Cake
"Shout what you want, human - if following you leads to a well-filled dish of some disgusting stuff to eat, I follow!"
Load More Replies..."I don't care if you call me Puddin' Pie, but for the love of God, feed me..."
You have it backwards. The poster is officially Carrot Cake's pet.
Load More Replies...Keep him he cutie pie! So, C.C. for short? Ooh, I need to hug him! I hugged my cat instead, but now she's awake and will want her chin scratched for days..
Some people think they choose the pet but in fact, cats choose their servants. I know as I have 3 of them... 😼
This Little Fluff Wandered In And Decided My Wife’s Crochet Basket Was A Comfortable Bed
It is my house, but she wasn’t our cat. Note the past tense. She is now our cat. This is how you get a cat
Izzy showed up and never left... she's a dog now...I have 4 dogs and she's sure she's one... except when she hangs out with my other cat
Can you imagine if humans did this? Just show up at someone's house, move in, and be fed and spoiled for life?
Well, you have a lovely house, now you have a lovely cat to grace it.
This Is Bob. Bob Sits On The Porch And Meows Very Early Every Morning Until I Go Out And Fill Food Bowls
Some days Bob taps on the door with his paw so I will move faster. Bob is NOT my cat. I don't have a cat. Bob is feral and doesn't let me touch him....yet. I am only allowed to feed him
Like many solitary predators, cats are territorial. This might sound a bit strange, given that they tend to pay precisely zero rent, and, indeed, often actually cost their owners more in security deposits. But, in general, cats do understand the concept of territory and space, marking their own and fighting interlopers when they feel threatened.
What might make this entire thing somewhat difficult for humans, is the fact that cats, particularly outdoor cats, might decide that someone's house is now theirs and never mind that this person isn’t even their owner. However, as this list shows, many cats are at least quite chill around humans, which is fortunate, since they will literally fight, tooth and nail, for their own territory.
Went To My Friend's House The Other Evening. She Went Through To The Kitchen To Make A Drink
Whilst she was in there, I shouted to her: “I think your cat likes me” she shouted back: “I don’t have a cat”, this is what she came back to
Please don’t feed or encourage other people’s cats in your homes. They might be on special diets, and have digestive or allergy issues. Just because a cat has graced you with their presence, doesn’t mean they don’t love their actual home, or aren’t a very much loved pet. Unless it’s done with some sort of agreement like the one a few photos down.
If they have a special diet they should not be outside. If they have a home and are loved they should not be outside. I will continue to let any cat I see inside and if it's not chipped it will become my cat and live inside where it will be safe for the rest of its life.
Load More Replies...My House Not My Cat
Sometime between the evening of 4/4 and the afternoon of 4/5: a feral momma gave birth to five beautiful munchkins in a box of clothes I had put on my patio to throw away. I feel chosen. I asked the angels for a “signer sign than usual” (lmao) the other day and I’ve been researching kittens and cats for years. I’m so ready to help these precious souls :’) (I’ll help by providing supportive care for the next three months, hopefully socializing the kittens and setting up shelter intake, then tackling tnr for the whole colony)
I’m sure she will. She obviously has a good heart.
Load More Replies...Many years ago, during a thunderstorm, a feral cat gave birth to a litter in my FIL's onion tray on his balcony. I placed a sheet over to give her privacy and we left food and water and let her be. After about 2 weeks, she rehoused her family. One of the kittens spent much of the summer trying as hard as he could to get back. That was maybe 10 years ago. Jerry (as we call him) is still semi feral. But has his own little nest in the now converted onion tray. My FIL is not a pet person, but it is Jerry's balcony now.
My Work, Not My Cat This Is In A Truck Manufacturing Workshop With 30+ Guys And This Cat Is Adored By All And Gets So Much Attention It’s Hilarious
The cat used to be feral but has adopted us all!
There's a family of feral cats that visit my workplace in an outdoor yard (we're a steel stockist of construction products). There was only one or two but then one day when I lifted up a huge 2 tonne pack of steel sheets with a forklift I noticed movement in the corner of my eye and there was a litter of kittens that must have only been 2-3 weeks old that had made a home in all the leaves that had collected under that pack. Then I saw the mother who guided the kittens away from the dangerous man in a forklift (me lol) out of the yard into the lake area behind. We put cat food out so at least the mother could eat and produce milk (not that she necessarily needed any help). Now, 3+ years later i'll see one of the now adults every now and then but as yet haven't even touched them as they run off as soon as they see me. One day kitty's. . . one day!
Maybe not a home, but gets maximum attention. It’s tough managing all these humans.
I think the title should read "The men used to be feral but the cat has adopted us all!" Lol
Had a cat move into our small engine shop. We called her shopcat. Lovely tortoise coat. My wife ife and I adopted several of the litter of kittens she provided us.
If you are particularly unlucky, the cat that isn’t yours but is in your house will do its best to make it their own home with the cat legal code, i.e. marking their territory with urine. In best-case scenarios, the cat is marking just by walking around, as their paws have scent glands that other cats can detect. The fact that you can’t detect them doesn’t appear to make any sense. However, some male cats will also pee on your property, just to let you know who is in charge.
These Two Showed Up On My Porch A Few Days Ago Looking For Food And Love
They wanted all the love and whenever my husband and I would go back inside, they would yowl at us until we came back out. I always saw them at the neighbors so we assumed they belonged to the neighbors, but after further inspection, they were kind of skinny, covered in fleas, and not fixed. Husband said no more cats! So I figured I could at least treat them for their fleas, feed them, and possibly TNR so they don't reproduce when they get older. I set up a little shelter for them as it was kinda cold out. When I woke up, I was sad to see that they were both gone. A few hours later though, my husband wakes up and I tell him how sad I am that they aren't on our deck anymore. My husband (Zack) then proceeds to smile and say "Well what if drunk Zack went outside, thought to himself 'Wow it's chilly outside. Let me call the kikis inside' and went 'here kikiki' and then both kitties came running and I grabbed them and threw them into the house?" at this point I don't believe him and walked downstairs because I'm the one that catnaps strays, not him lol. Well low and behold, these two orange babies are in our spare room. So no longer, my house, not my cat, but my house, my pumpkin and spice
This Gorgeous Boy Had Been Coming To My House For Breakfast For Years
Jack was abandoned when his humans moved 7 or 8 years ago. I've been working with him for at least 5 years. As soon as he started coming inside my house, not my cat, I knew it was time. He was way too skinny and covered in fur mats. He has definitely become my cat. In the 7 or 8 weeks since he became mine, he's now fixed, has his vaccines, got a flea treatment, and had dental surgery. Now, we're working on putting some weight on him and integrating him into the household with the cats who were always mine
This got my heart, God bless you for taking in Jack. So many blessing to you and your fur babies.
This Frail Old Boy, Who Is Not My Cat, Is Always Trying To Get Into My House
I’ve just got out of the shower, and come downstairs to find him fast asleep on the sofa under my daughter’s blanket. Looks like he’s here for the day!
He may not be "your Cat" but he may have decided you are "His Human". Cats do that.
My old boy did the same the last three months of his life… So I missed those :( . Was avoiding our more energetic other cat. Finally learned his other place three days before the end.
Actual cat owners will note that, unlike most of us, cats really do like to use the entire three dimensions of space in the room. While we mostly sit on some objects mere feet from the ground, cats will “guard” their territory from the highest point they can find. If some of your items need to be pushed aside, then so be it.
My Husband… Not Our Cat
This is Symba a local street cat, he has a home a bit of a trek away but he has taken to spending time with our cats. We’ve had some pretty rainy weather and he’s decided this lap is warmer and drier than being outside or making his way home! We are in regular contact with the owner who is grateful that he gets some extra love when he’s not there
Awww. God bless you all. Great that you all keep in touch This is great 😃
Co-parenting is a wonderful thing. Both families are to be commended.
Not My Cat Caught Breaking Into My Bathroom. He's Very Cute, Very Rowdy And Didn't Apologize For Barging In
Shortly After We Moved To A New Neighborhood, A Pretty Little Cat Showed Up At Our Door And Came Inside The House For A Tour
Over time, she visited us daily and she figured out if she went to my son’s basement window and looked in, he would let her in. Piper (as she is named by her owner who lives 2 doors down from us) now has a litter box, fountain water dish, a cat brush, her favourite cat food and cat nip at our house. My son recently moved out so I decided to get a motion sensor camera. Now when she’s at the basement window, I get a notification on my phone and let her in. Best $40 I ever spent. She’s got the best of both worlds between her owner and us, her second family
Interestingly, one factor that might push cats into “your” territory is competition with other cats. After all, hunting grounds, shelter, and water sources aren’t something cats like to share with their feline compatriots. So, in a sense, the “feline distribution system” might almost be a real, ecological phenomenon, where certain cats end up “pushed” into the hands of a human.
My House, My Sleeping Teen, My Grey And White Cat (Lentils), But Not My Tabby
I got home from work to find my son asleep with one of our cats and this beefcake. It’s freezing cold and apparently this guy was crying at the door so my son just let him in. Update: the beefy boy is unaltered but way to friendly to not have people or have once had people. He ate a lot of food, watched a couple of movies with us, and eventually around midnight went to the door wanting back out. Temps were higher and the freezing rain had stopped so I let him back out. He was an absolute perfect gentleman. Lentils is chill af and even Kismet, our resident tabby about half the size of this guy, tolerated him with only a few swat
There was an update on this post. The OP brought the cat to a shelter as his paw was hurt. Eventually he was adopted by one of the soccer mates of the guy in the picture. He's living with another cat and a couple of dogs.
My Mother-In-Law Heard Meowing And Opened The Door And This Baby Waltzed Right In
Hasn’t left my daughter's side. The cat distribution system chose her and they are keeping her. (at her dad's house) no idea where she came from. No one claimed her on Facebook when a post was made. So yeah. Here is Socks. The multi-toed baby. We gave them 2 cat trees we had extra and some toys. Ps- all her feet have at least 6 toes and one has 8!
Sweet! Looks just like one feral I've come friendly with. Gave her name BatCat because of the mask.
My House. My Rad Skeleton Dude, Gerald. Not My Cat. He Now Belongs To Gerald
Did Gerald become a skeleton, because he had a cat in his lap & couldn't move?
Finally. Someone who will sit still. Not a very warm lap for some reason but it’ll do…
Gerald used to be a young live dude, but the cat never let him get up.
Penn State!! I know I’m supposed to be ashamed because of Sandusky but I still love my school. Of course I hate what Sandusky did but I still got a great education and had a great experience there. So I’m excited when I see Penn State some where. It’s so tainted. I’m excited but then I feel guilty for being proud. I worked hard for my degree. 😔
No, Gerald belongs to... Rivea? Good name for a white-haired handsome thing...
Left The Living Room, To Go Make Coffee In The Kitchen. Apparently I Left The Front Door Open Too. I Have 2 Cats. This Is Not One Of Them
*scratches butt* “When’s lunch? Oh and your lamp here, it’s broken. Nearly fell on me, it was scary. Anyways, lunch?”
It strikes me that all these people have cats who go outside, probably through a cat door. Those cats make friends, then invite their friends over. It’s really just like kids making friends then inviting them over, with the parents coming home to a strange kid sitting on the sofa. What’s for lunch?
So This Guy Showed Up The Other Day. He Had A Chip, So With The Vets Help, We Were Able To Contact The Owner
It turns out that he stressed out their autistic son who put him out doors three months ago. Poor displaced guy.. I think we’ll try to give him a soft landing. Update: we’ve been in touch with the former owners family who were so grateful for his happy ending, they offered to pay his first vet bill
Could he not have been put in a separate room until a home was found?? Or a friend's home? The way some people think of pets saddens me. Very grateful he happened on a good home. Idk maybe they didn't have an option.
Look, I'm autistic and I know it can suck... But this isn't a potted plant, this is a living, thinking, breathing lifeform that deserves respect! Put out doors... Find a new heckin home ya reprobates!
Lucky you, lucky cat. Previous owners are a$$holes for just throwing their cat away. I hope karma visits them soon.
They didn’t “throw their cat away”. Their son is autistic.

Bought A Microchip Cat Flap To Stop Other Cats Coming In And Stealing Food
Felt sorry for this not my cat staring through the patio doors looking sad. Programmed it to the cat flap and now it comes and goes as it pleases, I'm too soft

I Called My Cat In From The Dark. He Came Running In. Turned In The Lights… This Is Not My Cat
He was very confused to be in a strange house but friendly. My cat was waiting by the door and not impressed to see that I was holding another cat
Kitty came to the wrong name he has no one to blame but himself for being in the wrong hooman home 👀
umm...turns light back off then back on and its ur cat...!
Two Weeks Ago, I Came Home Late And Heard The Neighbour’s Cat Meowing Repeatedly And Roaming In Front Of The House
I opened the door to let her to her house through our garden and went to bed. When I woke up, she was still there, and came for cuddles. « babe, it’s not the neighbours’ cat » said my husband. « we can’t keep her », I said, « Obéron will not let her stay ». She never left. We found out she’s not chipped and that no one has come forward in these two weeks (despite numerous posters and social media research, as one does), and Obéron didn’t in fact kick her out. She’s the sweetest cat ever, she snores and has no counter etiquette. Meet Catherine de Valois. My house, my cat?
I Only Have One Grey Cat (The One In The Middle) And There Are At Least Two Identical Ones In My Neighborhood Who Keep Coming Into My House

Uh, Not Sure Whose Cat This Is Or Why It Is In My Bathroom, But I Should've Knocked First I Guess

I acquired a void in October so I called her October. I’m jealous of the name Octavius. I really didn’t think she was going to stick around… 4 years later, still here.

Found This Cat In Labor On My Porch Today
If I leave her side she freaks all the way out and she won’t let anyone else near her so I’m currently being held hostage in my hallway by a cat that’s not mine. I call this one “Nurse, I smell pizza.”
Sounds like it could be pregnant, they often seek out humans for emotional support and a bit of safety. Edit ah apparently it indeed was! (Didn't look at the title)
Our 1 door down neighbor adopted us and got pregnant in her 1st heat. The poor thing was so, so scared of it. She came and found me. I set up a place for her to birth and she had 1 and seemed ok so I left. She followed me leaving #1 behind so I stayed till she had a couple more. She was doing ok by them. The neighbor preteen girls came to get them about 2 weeks later, they just wanted the kittens. Sometimes I really don't like humans.
I wish you would have told the neighbor preteen girls to go pound sand. Was the momma cat yours or theirs? Two weeks is old is WAY too young to be taken away from their mother!
Load More Replies...Many blessing. Hope she has many babies. Congratulations Grandma Human
You are s beautiful person, who now has several gorgeous cats. Win win
That's cute... I hope the kittens were all fine and that the nmc made a full recovery. She must have felt safe to have settled there.
This Handsome Fella Keeps Using My Cats' Cat Door To Let Himself Into My House
His favorite time to do so is 3am. He always announces his arrival, then eats my cats' food (right in front of them), and then leaves. If he had a little hat on his furry head, I'm sure he'd tip it on the way out
There are cat doors that have chip features that will only let cats with the right tag on their collar through the door. That's if you actually don't want him there.
Or keep your cats indoors! It's safer for the cat and the local wildlife.

My House, I Guess It's Now My Cat
I noticed a cat had been sleeping on my chair on my back porch, so I started leaving food out. The food was demolished every time, so I tried to get a glimpse of who was eating it. I realised it was a stray tuxedo cat I'd seen at night about a year ago. I recognised him because he'd lost his tail. Poor thing was so skinny and scrawny, and absolutely terrified of humans. I thought we'd never get close. After about a month of leaving food out, my partner sat and waited. The cat finally ran up and ate, hissing between mouthfuls as my partner gently patted his head. Next feed time I tried to pet him, and he switched from feral to love bug, head-butting me and meowing for food. Since then he's officially moved in. He's such a good cat, no trouble at all. Sleeps on our bed all night without disturbing us, sleeps on the couch while we watch TV, asks to go out when he needs to. My guess is he was someone's pet and got abandoned for some reason. He's gone from scrawny and starving to semi-chonk. I'm trying to regulate his feeding, just hard to say no when I know he starved for a long time. Still deciding on a name
We rescued two kittens and named the tuxedo kitten Vegas Baby (Swingers movie reference) and the all black one was Blackjack.
Load More Replies...I had a cat very similar - same circumstances. Fleas, tapeworm, skinny. He was missing most of his tail so I called him "Bob". I only got 4 years with him but he was the bestest cat.
We adopted a Tuxedo about a month ago and named her Poppy. She's so sweet, tolerates kisses from us and puts up with Olive, our orange tabby and 2 small dogs.
Tux. Xero. Miles. Roger... I don't know what I'm suggesting anymore, I've had 3 hours sleep and think I'm funny.
Definitely "My House Not My Cat"
You must keep him/her. There is not one brain cell in that adorable head.
Mama Cat Still Bringing Kittens Because She Knows They Will Get A Good Meal
You should catch and spay her. Life on the streets is a hard one, if she's spayed she won't keep contributing to the feral population. You check for any TNR groups in your area, they will put out traps and once they've caught her and spayed her, they will cut the tip off one. If they get a cat with tipped ears in the cage, they just release it.
I'm feeding regularly some feral families. So awarding when they come to greet and tell the news while enjoying snacks. Just some language barrier...

My Carport, Not My Cat
This kitten has taken over my carport and will yell at anyone until pets have been given. She also will nibble your fingers until you give her a chin scratch. We think she came from a litter of kittens down the block but for some reason, they’ve kicked her out. My husband ended up feeding her so she may be our cat now, not quite sure
Ask the home of origin if they claim her, then either adopt her, find her a home or get her in a shelter. She clearly wants people, and she deserves a responsible home, shelter, safety, and vet care. She needs to be vaccinated, spayed, and on flea and tick prevention, and microchipped. Don't breadcrumb her. If you aren't willing to give her the commitment and support she deserves, give her the chance to find someone who will.
This Guy Is All Banged Up From Fighting With Other Strays. He Decided To Take A Rest In My Bed
He's dirty and bloody and pretty yucky. I'll let him rest. He lets me pet his head a little. That's it
I would clean him up and make sure he's not hurt. You are a wonderful human being to let him stay.
Help him to settle down, if you can. Not necessarily in the house but to have a safe place on the yard or so. If possible, visit at vet might be good but taking feral there is sometimes bit labor orientated task.
He needs your help!! Get him to the vet and make him yours!! The life of intact males on the street is brutal and short.
He's looking for safety. With time he'd probably become tame. Sure needs some TLC and neutering.
I would also hesitate to say that he's not fixed. Also it was back in 1991 we started to see these warriors testing positive for Feline Aids and Leukemia.

My Sailboat, Not My Cat
Like all marinas, there are always a few feral cats around. This guy, whom we have named puma, is tnr’d and friendly-ish on his terms. I was working on the boat in the aft cabin and came out to find him carefully scouting the joint
Arrr human, there be tuna to catch! Set sail onto the wide blue yonder! Make haste ya hairless bilge-sucking carouser!
Our local marina has an entire colony. The fancy yacht owners were trying to get them removed (killed) because they 'lower the looks of the place.' Then a big rat ran over the richb**ch's toe, and suddenly the cats were welcome and they were building winter shelters for them. Heh.
I'd keep him and name him Captain. (Skipper is just too undignified for such a regal looking void.)
Definitely Not Our Cat. It Goes On Walks With Us Now. We Have No Idea Who Owns It. Lol
Update!! This is Pete. Pete lives across the street and moved in two weeks ago and loves going outside. But drama... We went on a walk (….With Pete….) and another neighbor said his name is Tilly and he’s owned by someone else!?
2 weeks is way to short to let a cat get used to a new place, isn't it? I've always been told, 5 weeks at least.
Completely depends on the cat. We used to go on vacations as a kid during the summer with our dogs and cat. I think our cat was outside within a day or 2. (BTW... I wouldn't do this now with my own cats.)

This time he’s decided to camp by our front door permanently and even tries to get in, which my resident indoor cats are not pleased with. Meet Midnight
My House Not My Cat
Woke Up To A Visitor This Morning. Not My Cat
I think he looks like a little police officer with his tag. Perhaps he’s caught you being naughty? Or perhaps he’s found you guilty of not immediately providing food and a lap.

This Is Rudy. Rudy Doesn't Care That This Isn't His House (He Belongs To My Neighbour)
Rudy is also a true chonk and even a newly installed magnetic cat flap is no match for him - my cats are wearing magnets on their collars while he just barges through it by means of pure violence. As you can see by his size, he's also a true freeloader. He often naps on my bed like he owns the place (as in this picture). I don't really mind

My House. Not My Cat. No Idea Who She Is, I’ve Never Seen Her Before And Somehow, She’s Very At Home Here
My other cats are naturally on edge because of her. She refuses to leave. Is this normal? We don’t need another cat! I’ve got 4 already! She’s definitely not feral, something tells me she belongs to someone and strayed from home
I had one of these. If she saw an open door, she'd assume it was unclaimed territory and therefore hers by right of being willing to swat anyone who objected. One neighbour in particular had to start keeping her door closed whenever Spook was outside. Spook didn't actually like other people or animals, she was kind of a one-person cat, so she wasn't ever a welcome guest.

This Little Lady Keeps Finding Herself In My Flat (Almost Exclusively When I'm Cooking)
Our outdoor community cats know when we're in the kitchen, which opens to the backyard where we feed them. It's funny to see them come running when my husband starts grinding his evening coffee. Also mildly frustrating when they go running across the alley when the other neighbor comes home and opens her garage 😀 No loyalty
We've managed to TNR all of our main community members too - no kitties the last 2 years

Turns Out She Belonged To A Neighbor Upstairs. Her Name Is Stella
As sad as I am to see her go, I'm grateful that she's back where she belongs. I will miss her little pretty face, but the neighbor said I can come to visit her, so I'm happy with that. And so are my cats. So the cat distribution system just came into play. I came home from the gym and started making myself something to eat and my bf Steve was helping me get things ready. We hear Taco growling at one of the cats behind the TV and we figured it was nugget because she is the one who always hides. We start calling for Nugget but she's not coming out of hiding. We walk over there and lo and behold, there's a little kitten that looks just like my cat Simon. Now mind you, we do live in an apartment building and it might belong to one of our neighbors - we will obviously check. However, given that this is the strangest thing I've ever had happen to me, I feel inclined to keep her. Wtf universe?!

My Yard, Now My Cat
She's come a long way from that pregnant feral that followed me home needing my help and wanting to trust me but didn't know yet if she should. I was bit and scratched as much as I got purrs and nose boops. She's had a rough start and you can see that in her face but Peaches is the sweetest cat now

All 7 of our cats were milling around waiting their turn at the goodies. After I took the shots I barked out!, they all scattered, I moved the treats, closed the door & forgot about it. This morning I pulled up the pic, and realized the black cat looking at me is not one of our 2 tuxedos. Have no idea who it is, where it came from or where it went

A week of waking up to him in our dining room asleep, sadly he's freaking my two cats out in the process but this little old dude is clearly after a warm sleeping spot!
Our Neighbours Have Been Away For Nearly Two Weeks. What Has That Got To Do With Mhnmc?
Well two of our cats decided to move in next door, we rarely see them, but of course, they both have to “tolerate” staying with us whilst the neighbours are away. They have to put up with our cat food, (premium top quality vet approved pouches no less). We know for a fact, that as soon as they return later today, both cats will shoot in back next door, and have a “strong word” with our neighbours for abandoning them to us where they’ve had to “slum it” the irony is, our neighbours were never keen on cats, until ours decided to convert them. I’ve had several messages asking how the cats are….Not bothered about us here one of them, Ozzie, getting comfy on next door’s sofa

Day 3 Of My House, Not My Cat. Scooter Came Running As Soon As I Came Out Of The House This Morning
He wanted some lovings (which I happily obliged). As I was leaving for work he went to his food bowl to eat his breakfast
Uh...You have given him a name and feed him daily, he is definitely your cat now. You just need to take a couple of steps to make it official. Take Scooter to the vet, for a health exam, or to a nearby animal shelter, to check for a chip; if there is one you probably will want to reach out in case they are missing a beloved family member. If he's not chipped you now have a new family member, if you want one. Then you will need to get a kitty bed, some toys, a brush & and nail clippers.

New House, New Not My Cat
We had a mynmc called Luna who we adored, but she passed away October 2021 and we were devastated. We moved house in Feb, and lo and behold we’ve got a new one! Completely different to Luna, this is the most antisocial unfriendly cat I’ve ever met. We’ve nicknamed him “Socks “ he won’t come anywhere near us, he runs away if you approach (never seems scared, just antisocial ). Mostly he sits in the open door of the conservatory, judging us. The other day I pretended not to notice him and he quietly strolled by to go and investigate the house! As soon as I went looking for him though he sprinted for the door
I wonder if he belongs to previous house dwellers. Hence the anxious behaviour.
All these people leaving their doors wide open and then they're surprised when they get a new cat! Lol

On Monday morning this week at 6 am and last week at 4:30 am. Mind you we have all windows cat-proofed so I think s/he must be quite skinny to fit in (very fluffy so hard to tell) we have a cat who doesn't care at all but this intruder keeps hissing at her and screaming quite loudly. Won't let me approach either. I don't know any of our neighbors well enough to be able to tell if it's theirs or not but I've put up notes in the building just in case no one has come forward for the moment a mystery visitor

Just a word of caution here. So many posts here along the lines of "I now have a cat". A housecat that is allowed to roam has a territory of 0.07 to 0.28 km. This means that your house most likely belongs to several cats' territories. Cats patrol their territories on a daily basis. Therefore, they will come into your garden and into your house on their daily "rounds", particularly if encouraged. This does NOT mean they don't have a home, or an owner, and you shouldn't assume that you can keep a cat just because it comes into your house. If you genuinely think a cat is a strat, check for a chip (vet visit required for this), ask around, put up flyers. Do all this BEFORE adopting them, or you may just be stealing someone else's pet.
It is like when a toddler (or very young kid up to age 4, not sure if there is another word for that) comes up to you and starts showing his toys or randomly chatting to you like you have always known eachother/your their mom. You don't take them home with you either!! Just because they trust you, doesn't mean the are yours! There was a kid in my street (that was only part time there, divorced parents) that always knocked on my door and brought all his toys, once a big garage thing. (Well several kids in the street actually used to do that, knock on my door and asked if I could play, once I think I had 5 of them at once on my couch!). His dad once jokingly asked (when he kept going back and forth bringing more toys) are you gonna live there now? And he very seriously answered yes half here (with me) half with you (his dad). We often played made up stories with a board game that was a 3d castle, or he asked if he could watch a spiderman cartoon on the phone. Asked for fr
Load More Replies...We had two 17 year old cats, unfortunately one was succumbing to kidney disease and starting to have seizures. One day this cat shows up at our sliding glass door and our healthy cat was making a fuss. Well I go outside sit on the patio chair and she jumps on the one next to me. I start petting her and she would not let my hand go, obviously starved for attention. Long story short, found the owner, it was her fathers who recently passed. Whenever the door was open she would dart out and head to our place, return her, rinse and repeat. Eventually we all agreed, she adopted us. Our sick cat had to be put down six months later. Ironically she sleeps next to me in the spot he used to be.
We have cats. Sister does not. Was at her house dropping off some things when no one was home and see one of our cats in her house. FREAKED me out. Turns out they have a neighborhood cat who looks just like TJ. I guess it followed me in. I was dying laughing but, man, I completely freaked out for a few minutes.
In my current and last jobs i've been literally surrounded by cats: 13 in an advertising agency (plus 2 dogs) and 20 to 30 cats in my current one (tv station) and totally hate I can't adopt one right now. At least in my current one cats are being adopted quicker than they reproduce XD
I'm a "dog's boy", but I love my adopted kitty pals, and they tend to prefer me too. When we brought our first pair of kittens home, one hid underneath the dresser and the other crawled up into my lap and fell asleep. In general I prefer my four-legged furry peeps over the bipedal smooth ones.
I have 2 dogs - a German Shepherd and a Pit Bull. I also have a cat who runs the house. A few years ago a stray cat started showing up on the deck and never really left. I tried bringing her inside, but she refused. We built her a heated shelter and fed her outside for almost 5 years. Then, one very cold winter, as a blizzard was forecasted, I once again tried to bring her inside and she still refused. Then my Pittie ran out the door and picked up the cat bringing her inside. Yes, a vicious Pit! No, the dog carried the stray inside, licked off the ice on her back, pushed her toward the feed station and stood guard as she ate. Later, he led her to his bed and she settled down. My GSD went over, snuggled the cat and both dogs lay down next to the cat. The other 2 cats welcomed her and for almost 6 years we have been a happy family of dogs and cats.
