Wash Your Hands And Reuse The Water For Your Next Flush
We are living currently through the worst drought in the last 100 years in Cape Town. So yes, we need to use water very wisely.
Load More Replies...This is an excellent idea! But make sure you flush with the lid down, or all the disgusting germs will jump right onto that tiny sink and anything nearby! Actually, you should ALWAYS flush with the lid down.
Yes. And personally i keep my toothbrush etc in a different room to toilet.
Load More Replies...These toilets have been in widespread use in Asia for more than 30 years.
Only downside I can see is soap scum build up on the inside of the tank and all over the valve and float. Being "out of site out of mind", it has a high potential to get pretty funky in there.
simply needs a compact high end filter to remove body dirt/soap dirt.
Load More Replies...Yeah maybe in deserted areas with water ration but this is severe for say, Seattle where it's water water, everywhere. Even though admittedly, one should never waste water I just think it is overkill for most.
Load More Replies...Does this keep the toilet cleaner because it always has soapy water running through it?
These bathrooms are actually used in Japan. I saw them in a lot of places
brilliant idea - just looks rather awkward and uncomfortable to get to and use unless redesigned a bit
Maybe best if they kept the sink separate but the pipe from the sink leads to the toilet?
Load More Replies...But what if I want WARM water (recommended along with soap to kill germs.)
This is common in Japan. Totally cool idea that I wish someone in the US would commercialize (hint, Home Depot & Lowe's).
Good idea, but the way this toilet is situated in space would make the tab difficult to use.
Yeah, or you could collect the water used in regular sinks and store it in a way to be reused for flushing without this travesty that's sure to spill everywhere.
For some reason, this always makes me feel uncomfortable. Its irrational, yes, but there you are.
Yes it has been in existence in Japan for over 40 years. It is water that comes direcftly from clean water that fills the tank. A lot more economical and limiting the usage of water. Japamese also have cute little things you can put on top like rocks and little flowers etc.
have seen this method in use here in Australia in a council building..l think they're awesome myself and have used it..
not to be rude, but wouldn't that be disgusting?! o wait... im thinking of it backwards... LOL
Lol!! I actually HAVE this toilet. It’s awesome, especially for guys, as it reminds them to wash their hands
I don't understand why bath water doesn't go through a high end certified filter then into a drum/reservoir (and no peeing in the shower) to be reused. After a specified amount of time the water could be switched to a hose and used to water gardens.
The Japanese toilets are already like this, a long time ago. Go to Japan!
What prevents dirt from getting into the flapper so more water is not lost through leaks than what is saved through reuse?
No. The constant addition of soap would destroy the biochemical balance of your septic tank, which is only designed to take brown water (human sewage), not white water (suds & detergent). Source: I'm an Environmental Engineer.
This water would not go into your septic tank. And perhaps it could only be used with urine?
Load More Replies...toilets in the pre-Washlet era have been like that for the past 30 odd years
Unless you do some serious plumbing work, you'll be washing with cold water. That's all that goes to the toilet tank.
Soap when into commode it will kill the bacteria which eats up the excreta. It will cause bad odour from the commode.
Ive only ever seen this in Japan, but its a great idea! The soap helps keep your toilet bowl clean too. You just need to very occasionally clean out any soap scum/residue in the tank
Wow. That's so clever! We can conserve water, stay healthy, and still be lazy- ish?
1) your hands has poop 2) wash it in that sink 3) when u flush, there is still poop in the toilet
But in my country, we have our own septic tank, usually in the backyard. If soap (especially anti-septic soap) ingredients regularly poured into it, it could kill the bacteria that helps decompose poops in the septic tank. I will not buy this toilet. But for sure it's a nice idea.
Where does the water from the shower, the kitchen sink etc. go? Normally there's as much soap (and even other, and stonger, detergents) going to the same septic tank, isn't there? I never heard of a septic tank only for the toilet, at least in my country...
Load More Replies...I do have a doubt. NOT A THEORY. Isnt it not in practice because. If we flush down lots of soap into the toilet it kills all the microbes which can decompose the waste, and later end up overflowing or breaking the main collection tank?
My Dad said they used to have this before already .. so that means they just have to revive this type of toilet...
My dad said there used to be alot of toilets like this before... so this isnt something new.. they just gotta bring it back...
I have one of these toilets, stumps everyone because it turns off automatically when the cistern is full. They always think they have broken it.
Great idea, I do this manually leaving the tank open and washing my hands on a bowl and pouring the used water in the tank, same with the water wasted waiting for the hot water to pour
This should be in every home and building in America! Not only does it make you want to wash your hands, it recycles the water. How could it get any better? Add heated Japanese toilet seats! YESS!
Apparently, we have some inane health ordinances here in the states that prevent this very sensible reuse of water.
