Actually, there is a certain protocol for a situation like this😟 . If the lady breaks the engagement then she is supposed to return the ring as it was accepted as a promise to marry. If the guy breaks the engagement then the lady gets to keep the ring because he broke his promise to marry her. It's sad no matter how you look at it but you should do the right thing regardless of hurt feelings. And I have to agree with Krusty about wanting 'time back'.
