PDSA Vet Claire Roberts was kind enough to shed some light as to why cats enjoy going into various nooks and crannies and explained what to do if we ever find our pets stuck. And remember, Pandas: though some situations might seem amusing to us, they might be very stressful for our animal companions. They might need our help!

“The first thing to do is to stay as calm as possible. If it is safe for you to do so, you can see if you can free your pet, either by tempting them out with some of their favorite treats or by gently trying to get them free," PDSA Vet Claire told Bored Panda how pet owners should proceed if they find their beloved animals stuck somewhere.
"If they are afraid or stressed it is important to remember that they could lash out at you in fear," the vet said.
"If you are unable to free your pet yourself, call your vet or the RSPCA for their advice. Remember that sometimes, pets can have accidents and make mistakes. Some situations that look funny to us, may actually be very worrying and stressful for our pets and they may need our help," she noted.

At least it was glass! I wish I had a photo of when we got our first kitten (~30 years ago). She was giving out tiny little meows, and we couldn’t find her until we went behind an upholstered chair in the corner of the room and found her tiny little claws sticking through the fabric. She’d climbed through a hole in the bottom. We had to remove the fabric to get her out!

We had a pet ferret named Charlie and he was the sweetest cutest loving sneakiest pet we had ever had. He and our Lab Sandy were best friends and always cuddling up together and Charlie would every morning after kids rushed out to catch the bus would knock leftover breakfast down for Sandy to eat. One morning however our ten yr old rushing to make the school bus stopped the dryer to get a shirt then on his way out shut it which started it back up and sadly Charlie hopped in and cuddled up in the warm clothes. It was devastating to us all and after all these years I still have the horrible images in my head. I'll never to this day get another pet ferret.however anyone that does should most definitely educate themselves about ferrets and their mischievous behaviors and how to keep them safe.

I had a collar with a little bell on my Missy so I could locate her but I ferret proofed my house before I bought her home. And I always told my husband and daughter and any visitors to please be mindful of her or I'd just put her in crate until it was safe for her because they're so mischievous.

I currently have 2 ferrets, but had ferrets most of my life(I'm 47). Ferrets are like Free Range Toddlers. Seriously.
PDSA Vet Claire also explained to us why animals, like cats, enjoy going into various nooks and crannies... places that may have our Feline Overlords ending up in articles like this one.
"We know that for cats, hiding can reduce their stress levels, especially if they are in new places or situations. This is probably because hidey-holes like cardboard boxes make cats feel safe and protected," Claire shared with us.

My kitty is like that too and almost every day he finds something new! Always when I'm sleeping and he can wake me up with meowing. Like standing on the door as well as your cat! My dog hates pugs; No other kind of dog... just pugs. I blame the guy down the street who kept allowing his pug to run up to my fence and aggressively bark at my dog (who is an APBT, by the way). Now, every time he sees a pug, it looks like he wants to eat it. Damn neighbor 🙄

Anyone who’s ever raised an animal knows just how hard they can make us laugh when they get stuck somewhere they really shouldn’t have been snooping around. As long as nobody was hurt or too scared, it’s fine to have a little giggle.
But there’s a huge difference between a cat getting stuck in a flip-flop and your kitty ending up in the walls of your house, as though it’s hunting for ghosts in the darkest corners of the property. It’s also hard to compare your good boy or girl who’s gotten stuck in the couch or doggy door, and a canine who somehow, inexplicably, ended up on the roof. There’s only so much stress our poor hearts can take!
Calming your pet down should definitely be at the top of your priority list. Then it’s just a matter of carefully getting them out of the situation that they’ll probably end up in again very soon. It can be as simple as taking your floof out from between your couch pillows or disassembling a piece of furniture.

The first time I had my daughters slept over at my boyfriend's house, we were all getting ready for bed and I was the only one downstairs and someone was trying to open the door, the door handle was jiggling around. I was scared to death because I had just been outside. My boyfriend grabbed his gun and went out the side door to the front and his cat has gotten shut between the screen door and front door 😂

One thing that might help some pets not get stuck in the first place is if they stay slim and avoid all of the problems that come with being overweight. Obesity is a horrible thing that greatly impacts animals’ quality of life. They’re more prone to illness. They have less energy. They may be in pain. And they won’t live as long.

Had a girl cat named miste and this little stink cloud was forever doing this on purpose. She would step into one like this or put her head thru a loop and then start to run around the living room until the bag puffed out making that noise. Then it scared her and she ran faster out of fear she was being chased. I mean she did it to herself. No matter how quick we got rid of the bags. Unless we never brought them in the house this happened daily. Ever try catching a cat going mach 20 on the walls matrix style where the drag ratio didn't add to the coefficient?

We owe it to our pet pals to ensure that they get a healthy and nutritious diet and that they’re as fit as can be. It doesn’t mean that we have to radically change how we live. However, it will mean making various adjustments.

Obesity in cats is a serious disease with many severe consequences such as diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease, and many forms of cancer,” the specialist warned. “The worst part of feline obesity is that it reduces their life expectancy and dramatically reduces their quality of life. Cats with obesity desperately need our help.”
According to Dr. Ward, the main focus when helping our cats should be on what they eat. A whopping 90% of a cat’s weight loss journey is directly related to its diet. The rest comes down to getting enough physical activity.
“That's what it's so important cat owners precisely feed the correct number of calories each day. I recommend having your veterinarian assess your cat's current Body Condition Score (BCS), setting a target of an ideal weight, and calculating the number of calories you should feed each meal,” Dr. Ward said.

I'd just finished decorating the tree one year and went to make a cuppa, I heard a pinging, tinkling sound and upon investigating I saw the 8 months old kitten clinging to the top of the tree while it was swinging to and fro flinging the decorations everywhere. Our cat went missing once. We couldn't find him anywhere. We went out front and could hear faint meowing We followed it to the neighbors house that was still being constructed and found that the construction crew had closed him up in the walls! We took a sledge hammer and freed him, then made sure no other pets had been contained in *any* of the other walls!

Our cat was trapped in the bathroom wall during repair work. They had tiled a wall and around the tub so the poor cat could just walk around the tub in the dark. I cut a hole in the drywall in the adjacent room. Poor kitty was so scared after hours in his prison!

Happened to my Mom with a very unhappy Manx she had adopted. He liked Dad and was afraid of her, he was an adult so not sure of his history. She thought he got out and ran off when no one saw him for a couple days, and adopted another cat a few days later. Come to find out, thanks to the new cat, he had found a way to get in the space under the cupboards and behind the plumbing in the kitchen; we had to cut him out, thankfully it was under the sink where it didn't show, and Mr Manx was returned to the no-kill shelter, a bit hungry and dehydrated, but unharmed. He later found a better suited family, btw, and we learned a big lesson in "cat proofing" the house.

When I ask them why, the pet parent shrugs, ‘I'm feeding the special food my vet prescribed.’ Weight loss is a journey with many unexpected turns and hills; you must stay alert and be willing to take a different path if you're not reaching your objective,” he said that owners have a responsibility to be more aware of what’s going on.
In Dr. Ward’s experience, all cats really need is 3 play sessions, each 5 minutes long, each day, to stay fit. You can use laser pointers, feather dusters, or bring a new cardboard box to keep them engaged.

Our Chihuahua we had 14yrs since her birth looked almost identical to this dog however she just began having seizures and found out from the vet she had gotten Addison disease which is basically diabetes for dogs being that most Chihuahua's typically won't eat dog food strictly and their owners always feeding them snacks and leftover foods which between my husband and our four children Tippy was over fed ntm ppl food which was really bad for her. The Addison's caused her to gain lot of weight, she looked liked a weeble wobble with her fat gut lol sadly after few years of monthly injections and medication she was suffering so we had to make that god awful decision.if I could go back in time I would have never allowed her to eat people food):

Though staying slim might help your pets avoid getting stuck in some cases, it won't protect them all the time: after all, they're still bound to be curious, playful, and sometimes even clumsy!

I was in Rome when a rat appeared and some guy just “unalived” it with a big stick. And yet, here we have a valuable and skilled team of professionals gently getting a rat out of a grate. The world is odd sometimes.

If that was my cat, the plug would've been yanked out of the wall, the phone would've gone flying, knocking over the water bottle, which then spilled water onto important papers and husband's work laptop, before hitting the wall and cracking the screen into a million pieces.

Yes! When my doodle was a puppy he could squeeze through something like 3 inches of space. We set up elaborate blocks to keep him in a specific room as he wasn't doing so great on potty training but he managed to get out every time!

Ex-pens are great for puppies. All my good furniture had 2' ex-pens protecting them. Pup is now 5 years old. That's almost mature for a Lab.

Ny dog would freak out if you took off his collar. It was comfortable for him so only for baths. And even then as soon as it was over he'd whine until it was on.

that happened to one of my dogs, but the tag was stuck between the slats of our deck. after that, i always sewed the tags on my dogs' collars so they don't dangle. safety issue!
