As long as people throw around some questionable bits of wisdom like it's no big deal, we have the unofficial karma police, aka ‘murderers by words.’ Except murder by words has nothing to with violence, weapons, or blood, which makes the act inherently peaceful, yet brutally powerful.

It’s because the fight is fueled by words, but not by any words. I mean witty, well-argued, and solid arguments that pierce straight through misinformation, fake news, and any other online BS that's so prominent these days. The targets can be anyone from Covid deniers to anti-vaxers to flat earthers and extreme right Trump supporters who support the Capitol riots or similar bursts of terror. And when the words come back, they do so with double the initial power.

Thanks to the prominent corner of Reddit known as the subreddit “Murdered By Words,” the karma evening selection of putdowns, clapbacks, and counter-arguments are in to show that everything you utter in this world can come back to you. Psst! Part 1 of the post with people who got brutally shut down is available here.

We now have 50 years of data on "trickle down economics". It doesn't work. It has never worked. We have all the proof we need that not only doesn't it work, the opposite is true - give money to the poorest and it will circulate through a neighborhood or community. Don't forget, before it was re-named "trickle down" it was called "horse and sparrow economics" - give the horse enough oats and it will s**t some out for the sparrows to dig through on the roadway. WE'RE the sparrows. Don't be fooled by right-wing economists who want to keep you poor. Their theories do not work and they do not care about you unless you're rich.

Troux. Spot on. At some point the rich should understand that hungry people will do whatever they need to do to eat. And the hungry and poor will be going after the people that have the money. So, if not for the sake of decency, how about their own safety, give people a living wage.

This person is missing the point of the stimulus anyway. Give $600 to a rich person, and that particular person can benefit from it. Give $600 to a poor person, and he will spend it, stimulating the economy like a stimulus is supposed to. A stimulus isn't even designed for the purpose of helping poor people; it mostly just takes advantage of the fact that they are the best suited for stimulating the economy.

If Jack is referring to the COVID-19 vaccines he is sort of right. They do not expose the body to a weakened form of the virus. Rather the vaccine sends messenger RNA to have your cells create only the protein spikes of COVID-19. Your anti-bodies will then learn to defend against it this way

There are several RNA vaccines, but there are also several "traditional" vaccines that use inactivated viruses. For example, the Sinopharm Vaccine.

That was a SNAPPY comeback Omar!! LOL

    View more comments

Previously, comedy writer Ariane Sherine told Bored Panda that when it comes to witty comebacks, they can be both planned and totally spontaneous.

"I've definitely come up with comebacks that are spontaneous. For instance, I told my daughter that if she didn't behave, I'd give her inheritance to a donkey sanctuary. She said, 'You wouldn't,' and I came back, 'You bet your ass!' But though I hadn't used that comeback before, I clearly had knowledge of the pun and might have used something similar in the past."

But not every comeback is equally powerful. The ones that make us thank the lord it’s not us who received them have to be well-timed, super-fast, exceptionally witty, and totally understandable to everyone. If it’s super complicated or said at the wrong time, or worst, in the wrong place, you can get scolded with an agonizing moment of silence.

I hate it when people give advice like this on something that probably know little to nothing about. It's not like us people who have depression wake up in the and say "I wonder what I can be upset about today?". Having depression is not as simple as just getting over it and the medication helps.

I was told that the cure to my depression is to work, because my illness obviously comes from being bored. I was told to eat healthy. I was told to run. I was told to marry. I was told to think positive. I was told to get a grip on myself. Yet, the only thing what really pulled me through, were PILLS. Depression is not a modern illmess, it is not a fake thing with which bored housewives come up. Depression can and will kill people, as it used to do so, back even several hundreds of years ago when medicine and professional doctors were not around. And even with all modern help, depression, just like any mental illness, can be deadly.

Studies have shown that exercise can improve mild to moderate depression, so it's definitely part of treatment that shouldn't be overlooked. But for a lot of people (myself included) it's only PART of the treatment, not a cure. You and your doctor should come up with a treatment plan together, which might include things such as exercise, medication, or therapy. There's no "one size fits all" approach to mental illness.

I'm depressive and have educated myself a lot on this topic. Physical Excercise and fresh air is a big help agsinst depression. But if you're really deep down the depression, first Step is to get enough Motivation and energy back to physically excersice, so therapy and rattling pills are like a most needed crutch to get on your feet again. Without the crutch you tumble and fall back.

What does "esthetic nightmare" (sic) even mean? Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, all trans people use "he" or "she" or "they" which are existing pronouns in the English language that no one formerly complained about. The difference is that a person gets to choose which pronoun they want to be addressed with.

    Andy Acceber

There are a lot more pronouns than that. Google it to learn more. Ze, xe, and fae are a few that come to mind. Singular "they" is also an adjustment. That being said, none of it is hard. Language is always changing, and "esthetic nightmare" is just Elon Musk being a self-centered, entitled, bigoted, drama queen.

Can I agree with them both? His kid has a stupid name, but the amount of “neonpronouns” that look like random scrabble tile draws is... a lot. At least a lot of people have cottoned on to there being ZERO point in everyone having their own pronouns, because pronouns take the place of names and if I need to remember three extra words for every individual I’ll just use your name instead. I mean I’ll call Elliot Page by male pronouns, and some people by “they” pronouns, but the people who are like “my pronouns are phlee/pleem/phleemself” I think are who Elon meant.

    Mewton’s Third Paw

I agree with them both. I’m not calling someone Xe as a pronoun, and Elon smells his own farts and thinks he’s so special for naming his kid something cringy. I just use “they” when people want to be called by cosplay pronouns. Nobody can ever tell you “they” is wrong.

That is a very good question. Elon's great at many things, but I dont think he should be a parent after doing this. He's literally setting up his kid to be f****d over by other kids over this. And we know that kids can be REALLY mean to anything different than their group.

I love this chicks reply. This woman was told multiple times to stop or they WILL SHOOT HER!! Just because she was a woman and in the service does not mean she does not need to comply with the law. My niece is retired from the Marines and I would say the exact same thing if she were dumb enough to do what this woman did, thankfully my niece has common sense. It sucks she was killed but she broke into a FEDERAL BUILDING WITH SECRET SERVICE AND POLICE AND MILITARY OFFICERS!!!!

I guess it will take another 200 years before idiots understand that you can't "pray the gay away." But "therapy camps" are indeed perfect locations for gay people to meet each other. And it's true: Covid deniers often are homophobes, racists, sexists and white supremacists who also believe in practically every conspiracy theory they can find.

This has always bugged the life out of me. Women fancy men who aren't interested in them all the time. It's just a fact of life for all us, whatever our gender or sexual orientation. But the f*****g fuss men make about - whole f*****g films about them trying to 'win' a woman that isn't interested, so that we can all learn how hard it is for them, and how much women owe it to 'give them a chance' - is sickening. You fancy someone. They don't fancy you. Your friends tell you they're a fool for not seeing how amazing you are. You agree. And then you move on. Jeez.

My husband's best friends are women because they are easier for him to bond with. He gets bent out of shape when men complain about being 'friend zoned'. Oh no, you have a really great friend but they won't sleep with you...as if that is the reaction men have towards their male friends too. Can't just be happy to have a really great friend in your life. Nope.

The men that complain about the friendzone see women solely as a sex object. Thats why they cant understand being friends with us without sexual attraction, because they think that sex is the only thing that women offer.

I don't understand why people think medical doctors are any better than anyone else in this situation. As a doctor...you call 911 or emergency service in your area. It's not like I carry around a stethoscope constantly, and I sure don't have a EKG or an MRI in my pocket. My doctor's advice: well damn this looks bad, call an ambulance. I think anyone should be able to figure that out. You're actually probably way better off with a nurse. We just order tests and wait for results, a nurse actually puts hands on patients and cares for them.

This isn't about tips (typically Starbucks baristas aren't tipped), it's about trying to squeeze out more labor than you are paying for, which is common practice in any industry. These seconds and minutes they are talking about are the little favors and tasks that are asked of people after they clock out.

@Bill Newsome. You sit on the clock/at the desk/etc. and if you are *working*... till your customer or boss is done... then you get paid. If it's b/c you got nowhere to go, well, no, b/c no work is no pay. Union or otherwise, btw. and you don't get preapproval for OT in many unions ------ and not when I was in one earning money for education ---- b/c if you worked the hours, you got the pay. It's complicated and compex, varies nation to nation and occupation to occupation.

I call BS. My son works at Starbucks and there are a lot of companies who put their employees first through this pandemic. Paid time when the stores were shut down. Paid time when employees tested positive for Covid. My son included. Paid time when someone tested positive on a specific shift gave everyone else on that shift paid time for them to stay home for 14 days.

Man, Obama could write his memoir in the third person, and it'd still sound more intelligent than anything a Trump supporter ever said. And it'd be even funnier if he just used his last name. "June 8th 2009: Obama and Joe have been in the White House for a few months now. Every morning, Obama and Joe go for a jog around the yard, and Obama greets every one he sees by name. Obama then has breakfast with Michelle and the girls, and then Obama makes sure he spends 15 minutes before starting work playing with Bo. Obama loves Bo. Bo is adorable." And so on.

Many teachers and other essential workers have chosen their professions because they consider it a calling and a duty. It is society that decides not to pay them equitably for this work because they are not valued for their work. Meanwhile, if not for them--where would we be in this pandemic? Please note too who populates essential workers--the very people who are not valued in your society.

Actually, that logic is the same logic I use to argue for teachers getting raises. College is incredibly expensive so if you are having to pay $400 a month for your student loan bill while making $30k-40k a year then you are in financial hell. Many people who would otherwise love to be a teacher will not be because they can't afford it. Compensate teachers for the amount of money and time they put in for their college education and you will end up with teachers who really want to be there, can stay there, and aren't financially stressed. Nothing kills a good teacher faster than being paid low wages for a hard job. I am not saying you have to be stupid to be a teacher, but I am saying that you have to be willing to sacrifice a lot and the strain of that sacrifice will impact even the most dedicated professional's performance. I picked a career that makes less money because I wanted to help people, but a teacher's salary is so low it is actually financially unstable.

This one hurts my brain... if you don't trust a teacher to teach because of the pay rates you voted on (by voting assholes into political offices), who are you going to trust to do the teaching? And what would you then call them? And how much would you pay them? This is some real broke ass circular logic from the OP.

Look at it this way. If someone walks in to your place of business drops their pants and takes a crap on your floor you can kick them out. You aren't required to provide them with service. The former president, the QAnon conspiracy nuts, and white supremacist took a s**t on the floor of twitter and twitter showed them the door.

This is NOT the law in California, and Republicans had nothing to do with it. Initially, any business could refuse service to anyone for any reason or for NO reason. What changed was that it became illegal to refuse services on the basis of age, sex, race, sexual orientation, religion, disability or national origin. Same is true of hiring and firing decisions. This is also true in most, if not all, of the other states. (And I saw to it that both my gay brother in law and my gay nephew knew this.) Sorry for the rant, California attorney here, and misstatements of the law are like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

Private businesses should all be making a point of who they refuse service to. That way it's way easier to avoid doing business with them. If they aren't allowed to that, it means I'd probably be supporting some people I'd otherwise avoid like the plague. It's like public funding of people running for office. I don't want to help elect people I wouldn't vote for.

I don't think it can be that simple. Private businesses should be able to deny business to people who are rude or nasty, or try to commit fraud, or in any other way disobey the basic rules of decency laid out by that business and the law. A private business should not be allowed to refuse to serve someone because of something they have no control over, that's discrimination and it goes against basic human rights.

Also - Obama by working towards universal healthcare has actually done a lot to help to prevent those 5 million deaths. With accessible healthcare people are more likely to get regularly checked, they're not afraid to go to the doctor if something feels wrong and can get proper treatments when something does occur - all that together leads to people less likely to die from those causes. And Michelle Obama worked a lot towards fighting obesity which also leads to heart disease and strokes.

Just looking at the possibility for a class-action status with the rest of the world, and sueing for the global roughly 100M that died during his presidency. Also, penguins. Thousands of penguins died during Obama's presidency. And owls. And ferrets. Have I mentioned the spiders?

Besides gas-lighting and abusing me, he kept telling me that I am not 'pure' and that I am 'disgusting' and 'filthy'... I honestly think he just liked the idea of controlling someone's life, otherwise I can't find a reason for him staying with me with this view of me. So glad I broke out of that relationship but two and half years of this managed to do quite a damage to my mental health - PTSD and clinical depression included.

I think that somewhere after the 8th or 9th owner, the value of the shoes would go up because they have proven to be so durable. And look at the value of a pair of Roman sandals today to a pair of Jordans! Old shoes are worth a hell of a lot more!

I know a Qanon nutjob with 4 kids who are the most messed up children on the planet. When I told him Im not having kids he got all serious and said I had to breed to so white peopke could continue to outbreed non-whites (spoiler, he didnt say non-whites). He wasnt happy when I pointed out the world population percentage of what he considers white.

They can and do, especially if they determine the fire was your fault. For example, you have a fire in your backyard, wind picks up and catches a field next to your house on fire, you call the fire dept they come put the fire out, determine said fire wouldn't have happened if you didn't have fire burning so it's your fault, here's your bill. Happened to a friend of mine in upstate NY.

Charity? Ever heard of National insurance? We pay a tax here in the U.K., which by the way is less than you pay for health insurance, and we get healthcare from cradle to grave with no fine print or get out clause for the insurance company. No one is left behind. While every healthcare system has problems, the NHS has equal clinical standards to U.S. healthcare, and cost the state about half as much per treatments, plus not one single citisen is left out. Even many visitors will get some treatment without a bill. No one needs to be bankrupted by medical care. We get a lot wrong in the U.K., the NHS is our greatest civil achievement ever.

Tell that to Alfie Evans. Remember, the kid denied a surgery to save his life and his family was not allowed to leave the UK to get treatment elsewhere? https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/25/health/alfie-evans-appeal-bn/index.html Also, check out who is doing the most medical research, pharmaceutical development, new surgical procedures, etc. It's the US, by the way, and you need capital to finance R&D. In fact, you should LOVE the US medical system because we finance your reduced cost drugs. https://www.ibtimes.com/how-us-subsidizes-cheap-drugs-europe-2112662

I hate to be like this, but I think I would have to interfere. In the middle ages, breast plates with breasts would be stupid, since it would allow a sword or spear to fokus into the middle, where it would penetrate the metal. The aim was to have the blows deflect sideways and outwards. On modern equipment, swords and spears are no longer an issue. Bullets don't deflect but hit you straight on, with massive force, therefore padding is more important. I've never seen the mandalorian, so can't say anything in this case. Also, I've never worn a bullet proof vest, so can't speak of comfort either. What I'm trying to say is: don't mix apples and pears.

So you are advocating for a mono-boob look? But in that regard, even the male Mando armor is bad because it has "pectoral" plates and has a cleft in between. Both sets of armor have the central wreak spot. You are right about medieval armor, but women would still need space for boobs otherwise the bottom would have to be bulked up so the armor can rest properly on the stomach area.

    While I did get mixed a few things up, yes, the issue with all this is that those are...assumptions. Further, many gospels were written, many of them using names of popular people at the time. For instance, some of Paul's letters aren't considered to have been written by him, due to conflicting viewpoints and dates. Plus, the dates. All of the currently "official" gospels are copies. While it's impossible to know exactly when the originals were written, most experts put them between 100~300 years CE/AD. Add the many conflicts between each other's events and the fact those were four out of dozens (possibly hundreds, now lost) and they're simply not reliable "eyewitness accounts". As to whether those people were simply eyewitnesses and that's that, it's mostly unprovable. Some names were pretty common and most of what's known may be "probable" but not "factual". ...Whew, I'm getting rusty at this. Been a long time. ^_^;;

Pretty sure that negates the entire Bible. Nothing I've heard from it is written as a first-person account. Eve didn't write "Adam and I were banished from Eden", Noah didn't say "I gathered two of every kind of animal", and I really don't recall Moses mentioning "I conversed with God, and he gave me his ten commandments that we must obey."

There are a lot of prophecies in all holy books. But the New Testement is written mostly in personal accounts. In this situation it would be helpful to know the context of the OP. I dont prescribe to his 'teachings' or whatever...but technically he is correct in reminding people that God commands us not to give false witness against thy neighbor.

Seriously, people should wear masks at flu season. I’ve never been so healthy as I was the last year. When I get sick it can drag out for months (I’m not exactly healthy) and I have disabled friends who could die from a cold. If anything, Corona proved that we should keep in wearing masks and washing our hands, even after it’s over

Poor Ben. It wasn't just regret over his son's death. His wife was the Revolutionary War equivalent of an anti-vaxxer and was why their son wasn't vaccinated. When he became ambassador after the war, he never returned despite her repeated inquiries over the years asking when he would return. He didn't return until after she died. Fairly confident he blamed her.

People aren't born deficient. They are born with immune systems that need training. Being bothered by the need for vaccines is like complaining that you need to eat and drink.

Antivaxxers had always been a problem... They are dangerous for themselves and for the innocent people they try to fool. Even good king Louis XVI has had to have his entire family and himself publicly vaccined against smallpox so people stop dying from a painful preventable disease. But look at OP's first sentence, it's basically "hey, the few people who survived survived, so it is not dangerous. Only the ones who died died."

    1. How can you call anybody ignorant when you don't know when to use is versus are? 2. Life expectancy in this country has sky rocketed over the past 200 years, even though we are now fatter, lazier, and more polluted than we have ever been. 3. "Provaxxers" is not a term I am familiar with. Is it new slang for people with common sense or parents of live children?

" . . . the regret may be the same either way, and that, therefore, the safer should be chosen." Is the EXACT reason why I have both my kids vaccinated. I'd rather take the chances with a vaccine (okay they had vaccine recently and the injection point is swelling, I should take them in immediately), than from a disease I could have prevented.

The thing about that is that though we are all forced into life, it is your responsibility to have the best outlook that you want to have. Complaining about having your life without any sort of mental illness, seems like a waste of thought.

I don't think that's what the post was saying. It's not about paying off debts, it's about people joining the military TO GET ACCESS to higher education because they can't afford it otherwise. Of course that's not true for all, I don't live in the USA and my brother joined the military after his mandatory service because he simply wanted to, but we don't need to worry about student loan debt as much as Americans unfortunately have to.

Ask a true Bible scholar, it doesn't say anywhere in the Bible that homosexuality is wrong. If you twist the words and misinterpret the Bible, you can support or condemn anything. When you blur the line between honest and dishonest, why would anything you say matter?

The word "homosexuality" wasn't added to the bible until 1946. The word it replaced was "arsenokoitai", which translates to child molester, not homosexual. So, that means your homophobia is man made and has nothing to do with God or the bible. Leviticus 18:22 - Man shall not lie with young children as he does with a woman, for it is an abomination.

He said nothing about it, but it does not mean He supported it. There are many things which He did not mention, so as He did not contradict the old testament, it still applies. It's like when a law is passed : if it is not abolished, it still applies. But the thing that the bible forbids is just sexual intercourse between two men. Two men can be gay, be in love, live in the same house, cuddle for hours, kiss, and publicly display affection... They are only required to resist their lust. Plus, it is a sin, but it is much less serious and much more redeemable than many other sins : remerber we all are sinners but it does not mean He hates us nor we will all go to hell. For example, habving sex out of wedlock while actively trying to prevent pregnancy is just as sinful and much more common, but nobody suggest that these people created their own god.

Gay catholic guy here : "Thou shalt not have any other gods before me" is litterally the first commandment, the most important thing any jew/christian/muslim is supposed to know. Plus, being gay is not a sin per se. Your identity, your feelings, the temptations you have to suffer, nothing of those are sins because they are not your choices, they are caused by outer circumstances instead of your free will. Only your actions can be sins. So two gay people who decide to love and live with each other but who don't put it down there are way less sinful than a straight guy who cheated on his wife only one time.

If you born in poverty, do not have access to a quality education, face violence almost daily, are hungry, have few opportunities, and have none of the advantages you did ....... it is because you are "bad"? If you are born into wealth, get a better education, live in a gated community, opportunities fall in your lap, and have never been hungry or worried about where you will sleep, are you good? Much of your future is decided when you are born. Do you believe people are born bad if their family is poor? If your life is paved with advantages, and you don't have to work as hard as the rest of us to achieve success, like Ivanka Trump, you consider yourself good? What a harsh way to view the world. If suddenly your family loses everything when you are a child, are you now bad? Please do not call yourself a Christian when you don't understand the basic premise.

Meritocracies, especially ones with a religious component, just love to boil everything down to "me good and worthy and to be rewarded because me rich; you bad and worthless and to be punished because you poor". Ignoring their wealthy backgrounds and support networks, that also have a vested interest in maintaining the meritocracy status quo, to bleat about how they are "successful because they are successful and just try that bit harder". Sure it is always only about trying a bit harder and suddenly you will not be crushed by debt, ill health and the wealthy making sure the poor stay poor. Otherwise how will they get their {insert item} cleaned?

Cancer is a "multi insult disease", this means that cancer cells form due to mutation occurring when DNA repair is performed after insult ie: injury/DNA damage. Different types of cancers have different likely causes eg: repeated sun burn and skin cancer. There are viruses that cause DNA damage that increases likelihood of cancer. This why the HPV vaccine exists

Cancer is a non-communicable disease. Mostly caused by a bad environment, genetics, obesity, and smoking. We learned that in 8th-grade health.... 8TH GRADE!! Well... not all of them are caused by that.

You wanna see me after eight hours? Trust me. I walk outta the house bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, ready for anything... And eight hours later, I'm a crawling rag of misery, scrubbing off in a five-gallon pail of cold disinfectant so I can enter my home safely. I don't look like *my* old graduation photo either.

Easy solution. Say "Merry Christmas" on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and Happy Holidays the rest of the time from the day after Thanksgiving (in the US) until December 23. Christmas doesn't encompass an entire month and there are numerous other mid-winter holidays.

I'm white. Ever since I was a young gamer girl I liked creating /playing as dark skinned characters in games. I have an alt character in Animal Crossing too. When I was a little girl I had a 'mydesign' barbie made, you're supposed to make it look like you.... I got a dark skinned one with red hair. I called her Xaya. I still have her over 20 years later. Imagine being called racist for that in 2021 and being told I should have chosen white as default. *eyeroll*

imagine wanting to make your animal crossing character look like an existing character from something else and then getting blocked from doing so because your switch knows that you're a white person

Imagine being 6 years old and not already knowing. That's white privilege for you. Every Black kid knows what race they are by 6. Welcome to American racism.

Pretty sure most 6 year olds know what race they are cause kids are really curious and will ask "Why does Susie have different colour skin than me?". No need to bring racism into that.

I gave it a look. The trees were evaluated for safety by an arborist due to concerns over the environmental conservation of the area - conservation does also include proper environmental management and ensuring the ongoing health of the environment, which some don't seem to realise. The trees slated to come down were heavily decaying and posed a serious risk to dropping rotten branches onto the heads of passing students. Thi was a real campus issue that had to be swiftly addressed before someone got killed.

Why wouldn't women want place for their breasts in a suit of armor? They're not "boob socks" that some terrible comic artists like to draw, they're just giving some space for extra material while providing protection.

I know it's all very fun and cool to poke fun at fat people because there are so few people you're allowed to be openly hostile to, but the body positivity movement makes people feel better about themselves which means they feel more inclined to care about what they eat and how they move and guess what that means? So as much fun as it is to fatshame (admit it, you loooooove it), you're working against the very idea you think you're working toward. Making people feel like s**t does not equate to lifestyle choices you want them to make. Not that it's any of your business.

I don't feel in any way personally attacked... I just feel like this isn't all accurate. I see where they are coming from but there are illnesses or health factors that make it harder for people to lose weight and easier to gain it (pregnancy, thyroid issues, metabolism, etc...etc..) by no means should we glorify being unhealthy but we shouldn't disrespect people for being so...

I can see how both sides here are and are not the asshole. Obesity is DEFINITELY a pretty big problem of the world, particularly in the US. That said, we should not shame people for it, because it's a lifestyle. Lifestyles tend to be hard to change. What we SHOULD be doing, and same with smokers, is encourage them to be healthier, and try to convince them to try to live a healthier life. Anorexia is a whole different story, since it's a mental illness as well as kind of an addiction and routine. Still, we should reach out to those who are trying to make a lifestyle change for the better, and try to help them reach their goals. We need to hold them accountable, not shame them for what they're having trouble changing.

The problem here is that the movement has gone too far. Fuller bodytypes should be considered normal, because they are. BUT as soon as there are health issues it isn't normal anymore. I'm sorry, but a body that is more wide then tall is not beautifull anymore.

Yes, but when people are unhealthy, they should still be treated fairly. People who are obese and trying to lose weight face body shaming. They are mocked for wearing exercise clothes. Being shamed for weight only makes people depressed and stops them from doing anything about it.
