We all know that kids say the funniest and craziest things sometimes; their young brains haven't been conditioned to follow our narrow rules of speech just yet so they quite often just name things as their creative brains see fit.
And you know what? A vast majority of the time, kids' made-up names for things actually make more sense, are much funnier and more descriptive than the originals could ever wish to be. Ice cubes? Nah, that'll be water bricks, please!

Well I finally have a name for it that makes sense! Before this I always called them "behing the knee" and when I was even younger, "the back of the middle of my leg". I was never this good at naming things :'D

The "leg pit's" anatomical equivalent of the arm pit does indeed have one or two "pits". I'm glad they found a new place to call "leg pit"....whew!

When I was at school, with 7 yo, i was studying sea stuff for an exam. Our word for cave in "ensenada" and I started saying "ensaimada" that is a pastry-candy. Mother didnt correct me. The teacher corrected me in the oral exam and everyone laught, was pretty cruel cause I really tought I was doing it right. I got really mad with my mother for not correcting me.

When my granddaughter was playing on my bed and I asked why it was now a mess and she told me it wasn't a mess, it was a "Disasterpiece". I no longer have messes in my home.

My 2-year-old heard her dad farting and she created her very first self-made word: "poo-bang" (in Hungarian kaka-puff) because a fart smells like poo and sounds like a bang :) logic at its finest

My brother called his uvula a "Throat Weenie" because he didn't know the actual name. He was 7. Thank god my parents had a talk with him about the actual name of it and why he shouldn't call it that. 😑

According to my grandmother, my father renamed strawberries "star babies." They've been star babies to everybody in my family since.

I have absolutely how this misunderstanding happened...but my son used to call the stalks of strawberries or tomatoes pubes. We were at church charity picnic when he asked a lady to "take the pubes off his strawberries for him" I can still see the look on her face.

I can believe it if the parents had already been referring to things they saw with rainbows on as 'Pride . . . whatever'. Many families care about or are involved in the Pride movement, so it can be a common topic of conversation or reference.

Without sounding waaay to cheesy (whatever) I JUST LOOOOVE KIDS and the way they express themself before the world around them starts to correct them (usually in school) I make up words myself all the time and very few people around me even ask me what I mean, just assuming that I have to keep myself to the dictionary. ... My son has loads of these! The remote is the "didoo" because when he was about 18 months old, he started miming pressing it at the TV if he wanted a programme on and as he pressed the pretend remote he repeated "didoo, didoo!" as the TV we had at the time made that kind of noise when you turned it on. His latest one is "Mama tubes" which are tampons.

I love all of these. When my grandchildren were little they called the lawn maintenance guys the "mow yards". They are now 27 & 29 years old, and my 2 great grand babies call them "the mow yards", as well as their parents & grandparents, great grandparents, and and their aunts & uncles. We all love The Mow Yards moniker.

My son used to think that lations were congradged. When someone did something good he said, "Contrage-your-lations." One day he did something he thought worth notice and asked me, "Hey! Aren't you going to congradg my lations?" So, of course I did and I've been congradging other's lations ever since. (My son is now 34)

My 4 year old has a few of these & I love it. Headphones are robot ears. Hair clips are hair spiders. Trampolines she calls trampoloons. & I’m never correcting this. My autistic 3 year old calls anything that resembles a sheep a ‘baa’.

When my daughter was small and she would scrape her knee we would whip out the Neosporin. Somehow she associated that directly with the knee scrape. So she fell another time and hurt her elbow. She instructed me that she needed the Elbowsporin. She's 26 now and we still call it "Elbowsporin"

Lived near San Jose and my husband commuted to San Francisco. Our then 4yo daughter combined them and called them "San Ho-disco." My current 3yo has noticed how the rest of the family plays "Slug Bug" when we're in the car, but he calls it "Spug Wug," so now the rest of us do, too.

We used to twirl my son around in the office chair and when the chair stopped he's say "I'm busy, I'm busy." It was never foggy outside..it was froggy outside. He used to ask us where certain people were.."Where's Dad?" "Dad's not here, Dad's at work." "Where is Grandpa?" "Grandpa's not here, Grandpa's at work." One day he saw a Uhaul with a picture of a Tiger on it as we left our apartment parking lot. "Mom look Tiger! Mom look Tiger!" When we returned later and the Uhaul was gone, he said "Tiger's gone. Tiger's at work." Well he wasn't wrong.

My favorite is my son calling Parmesean Cheese "Spaghetti Sprinkles". He saw it online somewhere in some meme and where we used to call it "shaky cheese", it's now and forever "Spaghetti Sprinkles"

Not sure if it was me or my brother who started it, but "Sketti" (spaghetti), pissa (pizza), and "adult-juice" (anything with alcohol) are still used today - and there are many more, but they don't make sense when translated from Norweegian ;-)

When my daughter was a toddler she thought nipples was pronounced nickles.14 years later we still call them nickles.

My 4 year old has a few of these & I love it. Headphones are robot ears. Hair clips are hair spiders. Trampolines she calls trampoloons. & I’m never correcting this. My autistic 3 year old calls anything that resembles a sheep a ‘baa’.

When my daughter was small and she would scrape her knee we would whip out the Neosporin. Somehow she associated that directly with the knee scrape. So she fell another time and hurt her elbow. She instructed me that she needed the Elbowsporin. She's 26 now and we still call it "Elbowsporin"

I still remember my mom trying to teach me to pronounce the word kerchief. For some reason I always said ker-FITCH! Now I just say "scarf"

That reminds me when my now adult daughter tried to tell me she had a headache; she told me that she had a stomach ache in her head. I knew exactly what she meant and gave her a baby aspirin.

I had a little friend who would make up a word for a thing she didn't know. That was like fifty years ago, and I still prefer "rainpas" to "airplane", and "chambelle" to "guitar".

Lived near San Jose and my husband commuted to San Francisco. Our then 4yo daughter combined them and called them "San Ho-disco." My current 3yo has noticed how the rest of the family plays "Slug Bug" when we're in the car, but he calls it "Spug Wug," so now the rest of us do, too.

My brother used to call the garbage truck, the ones that actually pick up the big trash containers, the "boom-bam" . He's now 37 and we somehow still call it that sometimes.

My nephew couldn't form the "sn" sound as a tot. He called snakes "FWANKS." It's not clever, but so cute that I still say fwank 35 years later. lol!

My husband called my step daughter a hooligan as a joke one night and she said in her 9 year old voice I'm not a hoogalin. Any time someone is acting foolish or one of the girls is being extra feisty we call them a hoogalin!!

We used to twirl my son around in the office chair and when the chair stopped he's say "I'm busy, I'm busy." It was never foggy outside..it was froggy outside. He used to ask us where certain people were.."Where's Dad?" "Dad's not here, Dad's at work." "Where is Grandpa?" "Grandpa's not here, Grandpa's at work." One day he saw a Uhaul with a picture of a Tiger on it as we left our apartment parking lot. "Mom look Tiger! Mom look Tiger!" When we returned later and the Uhaul was gone, he said "Tiger's gone. Tiger's at work." Well he wasn't wrong.

We were eating at a restaurant where I had ordered chicken tortilla soup and my son says, ”Oh! Your soup came with ‘Taco Bread’ ? ….. crickets…. I wait patiently before laughing hysterically to the point of tears - when he finally realizes he meant tortillas we both had a good laugh 😂

My niece used to call squirrels, squizzels when she was a toddler. I still refer to them as this almost 20 years later. Also, kiwis were kiwigs.
