My friends 13 year old could not read an analog clock. She was not even kind of interested. She said they don't teach it in schools anymore, in Billings, MT anyway.
My youngest, in Germany, was supposed to learn how to read analog clocks during Covid school closure. He still avoids it and is terrible at it, while we find it hard to remove all the digital clocks.

Even if you don't know Roman numbers, it is not that hard to understand that the one on top in 12. This was in M*A*S*H, episode Korean surgeon. "The one on top is twelve, the bottom one is 6" if I recall correctly.

The hands read the same regardless of the numbers. Some clocks have only 3, 6, 9 and 12, others have a line marking the numbers, or only have a dot at 12, others have nothing. The hands still read the same no matter what is on the face.
We have plenty of clocks with Roman numerals in the US. This person is simply an idiot and that is not a US-specific trait. ;)

Americans don't do 24h clocks either. I find this astonishing that they don't know Roman numerals. Americans are taught about America as the rest of the world doesn't exist. Reading analog clocks is definitely a Generation Z problem. If you don't understand Roman numerals, though, that's purely having a poor education.

What gets me is not so much that there ARE idiots - every country has them - but that there's such a theme to their idiocy. I've seen British and German idiots, but they wouldn't say things like "Germany is the best of everything".
