Bravo for having a 16 year old dog! We have a cat who just turned 18. He may be a grumpy old man now sometimes, but we love him the same as we did when he was a 9 week old kitten.

That's so cute. When my pup was less than a year old we bought him a toy pizza. One night a few months after we ordered pizza. When we sat down to eat he came running around with his pizza. It was cute.
Kimberly Freeman said that the coronavirus pandemic has been rough for many of us, but we can learn from our dogs how to live in the moment and to be excited about the small things.
The professional dog trainer suggested “To look out of the window and admire the beauty around us (or the neighbor's cat). To be excited when the postman delivers something new (especially a new purchase). To relax and be content with our own company and the company of those around us.”
Most importantly, we can see how dogs let go and do not hold anger or resentment. Our four-legged friends teach us “to forgive when you truly are sorry (just like that time you accidentally stood on your pup’s tail).”

I agree - they're not this dog's pups. Looks like the pups are actually pugs. I think it's just a coincidence that they've all chosen to sleep like this. I have a similar one of my two dogs belly-up and snoozing in the garden.

Meanings evolved and it used to mean foolish - it now seems to be applied when it's only a cute animal doing something that is mildly foolish looking.

I love this! I had a black lab growing up, every few days we would take the red wagon around and return neighbors lost items. I bet your dog is pretty proud of her/his collection! Nice job dog!

Hey Bill, I was so shocked reading your comment that I had to look into this. Like you I found it so hard to believe. I am assuming you mean what happened to Lisa Urso? I have read that the dog involved was 55 pounds in weight so it can't have been an average french bulldog which would weigh nearer 30 pounds. I read a description in a newer article that said it was a french bulldog mixed breed and 'a substantial size' so I think the reporting has been misleading. Still shocking though. Poor woman.

Ugh, this just gives me bad memories. I had a couple of friends, who were of the same family, and they decided one day that since one of the sons had downs, they would get a couple dogs. The doggos were dalmatians, and they decided that they were going to be outside dogs, and never let inside, even when it was hailing. They had a massive yard and a pool, trampoline, and playground, just not much shelter from the elements. These sweet, sweet doggos only lived for a few years. One of them, the girl, always had a scratch on her nose and forehead, and I believe it had been infected and it took part in her early death, but they neglected it and said it was "just a scratch". She died about 2 years after they got her and her brother, and she laid down to take her final rest under a bush. They buried her there. A couple weeks went by, and they see the other dalmatian, the brother, under the same bush where his sister was laid to rest, and they noticed (AFTER A FEW DAYS) that he hadn't moved

from that spot since he first laid down there. They realized he was dead, and the buried him alongside his sister. They did love the dogs, but they just had no clue how to take care of them. They let them drink out of the chlorinated pool, and catch their own food if they could, but they'd set out a cup of dog food (per day) for each of them. It was sad seeing them slowly degrade, but there was nothing we/I could do. Before you decide that you want a companion, PLEASE research their needs beforehand, and see if they're available to you. If not, try looking for an animal that will suit your situation better, so you can guarantee them a better life. And please do not neglect your animals, and if you have an "outside dog", provide them with shelter from different disasters and elements prone to your environment. And please, last but not least, love them and spend time with them. When their time comes, you do not want them to not feel loved and lonely. You wouldn't want to feel that way in

I rescued a little border collie who's people were going to shoot in the name of birth control. The morning after her first night in my house, I found her standing on my kitchen counter licking a plate in the kichen sink. I'd do it again 100 times over, but man was that dog a handful. Rawhide bones. Those are actually bad for your dog. If they chew pieces off and swallow them they can swell up in their intestines and cause major damage or even kill them.

Two legs with black slouch socks (is it the 80s?). The left foot is flat on the sofa and the right leg is leaning against the arm rest and away from us. I expect they were trying to keep out of the photo - that's always my instinctive reaction to any camera/phone pointed in my direction. I was able to enlarge it quite a lot on an already fairly big screen! I know this was probably going to keep you up all night and worrying if someone didn't check!!

My chow chow, DumpTruck sits like this. I'm convinced his back legs don't actually bend. He sorta todders up and down stairs like a rocking horse. He's also cross eyed. Not a stellar representation of the breed but hey, he's the best rescue derp ever.

You do what you gotta do. First time I took Eli to the groomer to get his nails done I warned them he was going to fight and sound like he was dying when you clipped his nails. That little bastard didn't even make a peep or yelp once. The lady just started laughing at me and told me that they're dramatic on purpose with the owners to get us to stop where she don't fall for that.

One time I arrived home and carried my groceries through the garage and up the stairs and dropped them in the kitchen; went into my bedroom to change my shoes, and when I sat down on the bed, there was the neighbor's little dog sitting and staring at me from the doorway. Eeek! Well hello, little buddy! He got wiggle butt and asked for pets. Thirty + years ago and this still makes me smile :)

We have a pug who is ridiculous about having to go in the bathroom with me! Even when I shower! When I open the shower to turn it in she must first 'inspect' and make sure it's safe. Then she MUST have a towel to lay on while I'm in the shower. If I don't put 'her towel' down she sits and throws a tantrum until I do. She's a princess who can't sit on the cold tiled floor.

My Dog Shilo is like this. He is such a divo. If he sees me with my phone he will go and get one of his throw rings and pose with it and wait for me to take a photo of him. If I say to him "Pose for me ", he shuffles about on the floor a bit and sits up straight and poses with the ring either around his face or balancing on his nose. Even if he is doing something else and I get my phone and say "are you going to pose for me", he will get his ring and pose for the camera. He even does it with 2 rings or a ring around his nose and one around his neck and he will just sit there patiently until he has had his picture taken. ☺ I love him so much. Our 95 pound gsd was terrified of life- if you moved anything in his space - pulled a chair out from the table, moved a blanket on the couch- he would observe / notice immediately and commence with the most viscous round of barking. He was definitely "anti change" The vet used to say he was the biggest chicken and yet, we thought he was perfect and I miss his quirks every single day.

Chewing is a natural thing for any puppy. All three of my huskies chewed as puppies and still chew. We taught them not to bite us by saying "no teeth". My oldest was 10 weeks and my other two were 12-13 weeks. Just because they chew on you does not mean they were taken to young. Now we do have a dog we believe we were lied to and he was pulled away too young because he has all sorts of issues that resulted from being taken from his mom too soon.

I think people do not realize its never too cold for a Huskie or other Arctic breed. They can curl up in a ball and make themselves warm in all the but the most dangerous cold weather. But get above 80 to 85F and it can be really hard for them to cool off.

Ahh, my poodle does this if there's ice in his bowl. Even if it's a cool day, if there's even 1 ice cube put in the water bowl, he'll lay down with his head on the rim, blowing bubbles under the ice until it melts, or he spills the bowl over.

My parents' late tom cat also loved to sit at the table with the whole family! Never made a big fuss about it, but it was really obvious that he wanted to be included. He was really well-behaved, too; I think it helped that the cats never got table scraps, not even after the meal. He sometimes sniffed a bit longingly - maybe even made a slow, halfhearted attempt to get onto the table - but a gentle hand was all that was ever needed to remind him that, no, the rules still applied (of course, if no one as watching, it was a whole different game...). Wonderful personality, that cat, we always joked that you could have bread a dog-cat with him. Needed regular reassurance that he belonged to the pack, and this was part of it.

Absolutely! Improper use of a crate. A crate is only meant to be a very short-term, temporary safe haven and not somewhere you leave the poor dog for any length of time. They should trust the crate and be happy to go in it but they won't if subjected to long periods of boredom like this! If people are leaving their dogs for long then they should rethink their options. Either let them have the run of the house, get a sitter or place them in doggy day care. If a person can't do one of these things then the home and lifestyle is probably not sufficiently dog-friendly. Most dogs aren't happy being left on their own all day while people go to full time jobs. A lot of dogs will mess up a house if left but that's because they are bored and a crate is not the answer to that problem - get day care.

Done properly it isn't cruel as the dog learns that it's their safe space and they'll choose to go in there. I have two dogs but only one that was trained with a crate and she chooses to take her treats in there to eat them - I only ever shut the door when I need to keep her away from something for her own safety.
