Alvin Juano is a 26-year-old comic artist who's a proud creator of The Square Comics, a web comic series that is enjoyed by more than 590k followers on Instagram and many more on other social media platforms.

If we had to describe them in the least amount of words, we would probably have to say that their key quality is their dark, pessimistic humor. But it's the kind of darkness that brings a sort of light to it, and pessimism that makes one smile in the end. Though the dark twists are definitely the comic's strong suit, they're in no way less funny and entertaining.

It's worth mentioning that Alvin is no stranger to Bored Panda. If you missed the previous parts, or if you just want to check them out again, you can find them here and here.

The artist started The Square Comics in 2014. He did badly at school, to a point where he almost got kicked of a course. He hit such a low in his life at the time that he decided to do something to get into a new groove in his life. And creating funny comics was the thing that helped him turn the page in his life.

Of course, his sense of humor didn't come out of a vacuum; his taste was influenced by comedians and comic artists alike. Alvin loves Ricky Gervais, and enjoys his unfiltered honesty with sarcastic undertones. His favorite childhood cartoon was Doraemon & Crayon Shin-Chan. As for comics, he likes Cyanide & Happiness, Safely Endangered, and War and Peas.

"God takes the good souls early" is absolute crap. My dog, (very old, blind, almost deaf) was euthanized recently, and she was the best dog I have met. Never barked, never ran around the house making endless howling noises because someone walked by the house and was always happy to see/hear/feel someone near her. Her fur was turning from black to white, she was that old. If god takes good souls early, why would god take her late?

He also told in an interview (which you can find in the first post linked above) about how his creative process works. As many artists do, he has a preferred method: Alvin likes to try to think of things that could potentially be interesting or funny right before he goes to sleep, and then he writes it down. He'll then pick out the ones that he finds the most interesting the next day, sketch them out, show them to his friends and review them.

Higher chance of getting nice clothes or shoes in your size during clearance sales.

He usually sketches with a paper, pen or a pencil, and then draws the digital version on Photoshop with his Wacom tablet, which is really small and very easy to carry around.

The artist is very well aware that his humor borders on the darker side. He admitted that it might even be depressing to some. "Definitely not something my mom would approve of."

Yeah but that time it was horrible due to my poor decision making skills. Now I'm not even getting the opportunity to make poor decisions.

I used to work on a laptop all the time, but now I'm not travelling as much a docking station and a big monitor as a second screen makes a real difference. And that's even with a big laptop.

Well, technically, trees need carbon dioxide (CO2), so it's more like getting the gift of O2 and then converting it to CO2 so you can give it back.

For my family, it's depression. The awesome thing, though, is that you can give it without losing it!

Actually, most ducks can raise themselves a small herd. My duck, Penny, got 17 ducklings, most from her own setting. Cayuga ducks like her can raise up to 40, no problem.
