The Build Back Better bill, currently in the Senate, would return the max consumer price for insulin to $35. 'Just saying. If you're an American and your senator isn't already in support of the bill, now is a good time to call their office.

While ignoring the 99% of the bill that's trash? That's why riders on bills are bullshit and need to ne prohibited. This is a tactic both sides use and it's disgusting. They'll write a bill they know will never pass, then add in something like this that's completely unrelated, so if the other side rejects it because the content is garbage, they look like assholes because the other party says omg how can they reject a bill with (insert unrelated item here) in it? They're the devil. And round and round we go. People should never agree to back things like this. If Biden genuinely cared, he could cap it without putting in the bill. Instead, people will die because he's pathetically using insulin as leverage in a bill that has no chance of passing.

$1300??? That's outrageous! Pathology is free in Australia, except for the really obscure tests. And even then, the obscure ones are partly funded by federal health so you only end up paying $50 or so.

Oh, because very very rich people control pharmaceutical companies and have lobbyist. So it is damn near politically impossible to put controls on the pharmaceutical and insurance industries in the U.S. This is not an excuse, just an explanation. The whole thing is deplorable, to say the least.

All medication is free at the point of delivery here in Scotland - is included in our national insurance which is isn't that much really - I mean, if you earn 75k a head you pay around 6k a year - which means if I need any medication, medical treatment, hospital stats etc I pay 0 at that point. And then when I get to the qualifying age I get a state pension - because it's deducted straight from your wage every payday you don't really notice it so much

Wow. In the US, a lot of insurance plans don't pay for anything (other than the few preventative services Obamacare forces them to cover) until you spend $6K or more (not counting the high monthly premiums) and only then they'll begin to pay a portion.

Have you heard of the Open Insulin Project? A bunch of highly qualified scientists in the US, are working on hacking the formula for insulin, and sharing it with the world. That way, insulin is cheap and easy to get - some people will even be able to make it themselves. https://openinsulin.org/

You may not know that it costs millions, if not billions of dollars for companies to develop new medications for the market in the USA (that's why so little is done by other countries). Then there's all the clinical trials that need to be done to prove the new medication actually does what it's supposed to without killing the people it's supposed to help. Don't you think the companies deserve to make that money back to use when other new medications need developed. Don't you think the scientists and lab employees should get compensated for the work they do? Why would they bother to go to work each day if they received nothing for their efforts?

It's extra horrible, because the ones who discover/invented insulin medication didn't want to make money off sick people. They wanted their medication to be affordable and available for people with diabetes, regardless of economic status.

It is considered price gouging l. Problem is that for some reason it takes a court to put an end to it and the police cannot do “on the spot”. S’pose the circumstances are different. Oh and when the patent on a designer drug runs out and they start up the generic - man, is that a relief! Then again sometimes that doesn’t happen.

I'm perfectly willing to pay the companies who were brilliant enough to invent the medication I need so that I don't die of depression or high blood pressure or the torture of chronic pain. I'm grateful these meds exist! But that insulin price-gouging is something else entirely - for shame.

Previously, we spoke with Dr. Lise Deguire, a clinical psychologist and the author of “Flashback Girl: Lessons on Resilience From a Burn Survivor” who said that occasional sadness is a normal part of life.“Happiness and sadness are both normal feelings that naturally arise through life's inevitable ups and downs. When people are numb to their feelings, or try to avoid feelings altogether, they won't experience sadness, but they won't experience much happiness either,” she explained.

However, some people may be more susceptible to sad emotions than others. This may be due to many reasons, but previous experiences, genetics, and mindsets are largely to blame. “This can be partly genetic and partly due to negative life experiences. Mindset is also a factor,” Lisa told us.

“People who tend to be pessimistic, who dwell on the future anxiously, and who ruminate negatively about the past can experience more sadness. However, these are cognitive bad habits that can really be helped by psychotherapy.”

But most of the posts in this article have to do with the fact that they make a point which is presented in a funny way but is in itself not that funny. Quite on the contrary, many examples present cases of what could be called “a hard truth” which is, as we know very well, a pretty hard thing to swallow.

In a previous interview, Susan Petang, a certified life coach who runs The Quiet Zone Coaching, told Bored Panda that if the truth is something we don’t agree with, it will be uncomfortable to hear it because it all has to do with our core beliefs and values, and the way we view the world.

“When what we believe to be true about ourselves, situations, other people, or the world in general is at odds with what we observe, the result is cognitive dissonance—when our beliefs and our observations are at odds. This can cause considerable stress,” she explained.

On the other hand, when we talk about truth, we have to be aware of the fact that it’s really a question of perception. Unless it’s a stated, scientifically-backed up fact, or a law of nature, all truths can be challenged. “So, what I have experienced as 'truth' may not be what you have experienced as 'truth.' For example, one could say that the truth is that water boils at 212 degrees. Or does it? If you use the metric system, water boils at 100 degrees,” Susan said.
