The sexual revolution, disco music, feminism, free-flowing hallucinogenic drugs, and pacifism is the mish-mash of things that once created the absolutely unique 70s style that we so lovingly hate to remember. While there was some pretty awesome stuff going on in the fashion trends department, 70s men's fashion seems to have skipped all the cool stuff and went straight for the disastrous. Men's clothing made from shiny spandex? Groovy! Hip-hugging bell bottom pants, also glossy? You betcha! Chest hair, porn-stache, bright leisure suits, and skimpy short shorts defining the men's fashion? Far out! There's no way these 70s fashion relicts will ever come back in all their seriousness, so we can happily reminisce them in the safety of our jeggings and Yeezys, without fearing to witness a man-bulge wandering in the streets.

So, as a child of the 60's I remember and worked in men's fashion during the 70's. Very few of these were actually worn by most men. These were those fashions that they tried to convince us was the latest trend but not really! Give it another 30-40 yrs and our grandchildren with be looking at the crazy things designers do now for fashion shows and they'll think that's what we all wore.

The decade that taste completely bypassed. But true, at least it had a style all it's own, unlike the shapeless baggy jeans, hoodies and baseball caps that seem to have been around for about 30 years now

I remember the 70s as the decade taste forgot but this collection is truly outstandingly bad. But I don't remember that many check pants being around in Australia and it's something you'd never forget! Nor the fabulous man-baby onesies. Body shirts were the thing here.

The 70s, the decade that taste forgot. Thank Fek none of the men I dated ever looked like that, polyester body shirts & flares were bad enough. I was able to get them to ditch the body shirts for cotton by saying I was allergic to synthetics, they were all clueless enough to miss the fact that most of my dresses were Jersey.

Gay isn't just a fashion, it's a reality and if there was a time when it was embraced by men to be flamboyant and unapologetic about being androgynous then it simply means those times marked a freedom of expression for everyone. I don't see this freedom today anymore. And I think this is a problem.

I'm not sure I should ruin the fun however a lot of guys wouldn't be caught dead in clothes made from Simplicity patterns or knitting instruction seen here. That said, I have pictures of me in poly leisure suits and/or platform shoes...

You know what I honestly think the problem here is: people today are sooooooooooooooooo effing scared of anything outside the box. I think this article in itself. In the 70s men were more playful with fashion. Today everyone is just scared of colours, patterns and the slightest hint of androgyny. Why do you need to perpetuate this toxic s**t?
