35 Gigantic Things That Are A Big “Nope, I’m Outta Here” For People With Megalophobia (New Pics)
Megalophobia is the fear of large objects. Some common triggers include tall skyscrapers, large statues, vast mountains, big ships, and even animals like elephants or whales. But for a more comprehensive and vivid list, let's visit the subreddit 'Megalophobia.'
Created back in 2014, it now has 764,000 members who are constantly sharing pictures of the things that they find just too massive to be comfortable with.
Even if you never thought you suffer from this condition, the images are something to behold. Plus, don't miss the chat we had with Padraic Gibson, D.Psych. You'll find it spread throughout the entries.

Nope, moose are this big and can absolutely be found during a hike (source: my grandpa was a hunter and I saw dead moose a lot)
Load More Replies...I have seen a lot of moose in my 79 yesterday but never one a massive as that appears. I can't decide if it is perspective or photo manipulation but it is not accurate representation.
I don't need to "imagine", I live in Alaska and I see moose at leased once a week.
Nope, not fake. I'm from the Rocky Mountains in the state of Idaho, USA. We do indeed get them that big there.
I've seen moose in "person" (or is it "animal"?) but the are AWFULLY BIG. A car will be totaled if it hits a moose as the hood of the car hits their KNEES!
It’s not fake. And that is exactly what you do. You STOP! Just stop, and wait for him to decide you are not worth the trouble of killing until he turns around and walks away.
Was driving from Michigan (USA) to Washington (USA) and had a moose cross in front of my car when I was in the mountains. YES...they are this big and I felt so insignificant!
Megalophobia is not an official diagnosis as such, but rather a very rare and particular form of an official psychiatric diagnosis known as 'specific phobia.'
Researchers don’t yet know the exact number of people who have megalophobia, which is likely because many who have specific phobias don’t seek treatment for them.
Specific phobias, in general, are a relatively common mental health condition, and it is estimated that around 7 to 10% of the population has one.

Coastal Redwoods Are A Thing To Admire
They really are. We have young ones throughout Sacramento. The ones in The Redwood Forest are a sight unlike any other, and smells as beautiful as they look. There is still remnants of Endor of Star Wars E6 in there.
This is not a costal redwood but a giant sequoia and is located in the sierras not the costal range. Magnificent trees, I live about an hour away from them and I see them several times a year and they still always amaze me.
yes this seems more like a Sequoia (bigger around the base, but not as tall as Redwoods).
Load More Replies...I've seen the ones in the redwood forest when I was a kid. Amazing. The kind of thing that sticks in your head. Would like to see it as an adult.
I’ve only seen photos of them, but they are incredible. I wonder how many are left.
Quite a few, but not nearly as many as before modern man. You find them (Redwoods, not the Sequoia pictured) from central CA coast up through southern Oregon coast.

"Megalophobia is a specific phobia characterized by an intense and irrational fear of large objects or structures," Dr. Padraic Gibson, who is a consultant clinical psychotherapist and the clinical director of The OCD Clinic as well as the director of training and organization consultation at The Coaching Clinic, told Bored Panda.
"The psychological basis behind megalophobia is likely to be multifactorial, involving conditioning, learning, and cognitive processes."
"The fear of large objects may be rooted in experiences or observations during childhood or early life, and media exposure can also contribute to its development. The fear is reinforced by avoidance behaviors, making the fear more ingrained," Gibson, who has contributed to the TV and Film industries as a specialist consultant, and writes regularly for Psychology Today, explained.

it was designed to be disproportionate, so on the ground, perspective would make it look normal as opposed to distorted.
Funny enough, smaller "bananas" were considered more masculine, showed intelligence, and had his urges under control. Nowadays, you have short men with hurt egos that try to drive the biggest trucks to compensate.
Load More Replies...Looks like the statue is going to start moving in that creepy stop-motion "Jason and the Argonauts" style, and crush the lady with his huge hands. Jeepers.
And compared to the rest of his body, his right hand is completely out of proportion (too big).
Yes, big sized sculptures, that were supposed to be lifted up to the cathedral walls (which exagerrated perspective even more), were made disproportional. Perspective make big sized sculptures look small headed with big legs, so Michelangelo was the first one, who made sculptures the way it tricks perspective optical illusion and sculptures look normal.

I cannot tell you how much I was looking forward to getting my pic. Cue the disappointment as the states and state line are NOT written on the road. According to Dr. Padraic Gibson, phobias, including megalophobia, can significantly impact a person's quality of life and well-being, so it's essential to seek professional help if your fears are interfering with your daily functioning.
"Mental health professionals can provide appropriate assessments and design personalized treatment plans to help individuals overcome their phobias and lead more fulfilling lives. Early intervention can often lead to better treatment outcomes, so it's crucial not to delay seeking help if a phobia is causing distress," he added. "Embrace the journey of self-discovery, and step into a world of newfound empowerment and personal growth. You can conquer your fears and live life to the fullest."

It holds 3 MBT, the Russian Navy has two of them operational.
Load More Replies...This one is a very interesting piece of Russian equipment, for many reasons.First, it was actually built in Ukraine: out of the 10 units built, 6 went to Russia and 4 went to Ukraine, a nation with a token Navy and without any real need for amphibious capability. Being aware that those were resource-hungry, barely functioning and basically useless pieces of junk, Ukraine quickly decommissioned theirs after a decade of sitting unused. Russia kept them in service ten years more, until -after the Crimean invasion cut off the possibility to purchase spare parts from the Ukraine manufacturers- sold three of them (plus, one from Ukraine) to Greece, with the money destination raising many questions. China bought two of them, quickly copied the design for two other "improved" barges, and then scrapped the project because it was frankly c**p to begin with. Come the Ukraine invasion, Russian Zubrs would be called to action... but both are inoperative because the only company building the titanium turbines is in Ukraine. The end.
Fun fact, the greek Zubrs are one of the few pieces of Soviet military hardware currently in use within NATO.

Super-Kamiokande Neutrino Detector In Japan
That's a darn good question. I do know that they have to reject at least a million false events (from muons, neutrons and the like) in order to isolate genuine neutrino events. This looks similar to the bridge in the mist above. Looks less scary in the daylight.
wait until you see it with snow whipping across it and not being able to see the lake beneath. We've gone over it before when we couldn't even see the top of the tower in front of us.
Load More Replies...It's the Mackinac Bridge - locals pronounce the name Mackinaw. I've driven across it, and it is a bit scary because of the wind. Speed limit is 40 mph (72kph) for cars, and 20 for big trucks. Toll is $4.00.
Sailing under, cool. Driving over, NOPE. I paid the $10 to have an employee drive my car over each way.
I've been across this in the winter time. It was a high school band trip to the U.P. Our vans had to wait to get clearance to cross b/c the winds were so strong, they weren't letting tall or compact vehicles pass until the winds died down for danger of them being blown over. Great view but kinda terrifying for a teen.

Mecca Cityscape, Including The Royal Tower Hotel. The 3rd Tallest Building In The World
Isn't religion cool?!? The way they all build expensive, unnecessary buildings as a place to worship and more often clearly in stark contrast to the ramshackled housing of the poor and working class that it paradisiaclly leaches from?! And even more "funny" how the holy books all teach to not build giant, stupid houses of worship and to give NOT TAKE from the people? But that's religion for you; ignore what doesn't give you what you want and manipulate the rest to keep people from what they need.
Yeah, hated Trump a little less before he was pretending to be pretending to be religious.

I don't. I lifted enough shovelsful in the 1950s and 60s to last a lifetime. If I don't have to go out and if my electric cooperative cooperates, I can tolerate a weekend of it each winter, but go out in it, NO.

Just Some Legs... Eye Think
Ok, so this one is the scariest of all. Something about large things under water. Is it submechanaphobia or submegalaphobia? Both? 😳
Is this real or photoshop? I would love to be that close to a whale. Something tells me the image is fake tho
i think it’s fake because the eye resembles more closely of a humans than of a whales.

I'm terrified every time I see this (in movies etc, never in real life) because I can't believe those spindly legs hold so much weight.
A lot of materials have a very safe compression rating load ENORMOUSLY bigger than other potential stress vectors. Concrete is sometimes even way more than this steel, if I recall correctly.

This was intended to be a stadium, and was used for the Memphis Grizzlies NBA team for a time. It was then left empty for many years until Bass Pro Shops took up residence. It is very bizarre. I've been inside and they did a good job transforming it, but it would work much better as a stadium I think.
It is very large and before it was converted it was jet black and sort of felt like a force field as you drove toward it over the river. It had weird vibes.
