Just nervous? I'm utterly terrified.

No surprise that I've never been to space but I know the sensation. I get - or more used to get, less often now - uranophobia. It can happen anywhere but almost always outside, and heights, broad, open vistas, open skies and similar things can be more likely to induce it. Even using the programme Celestia - free 3D universe map (if you're interested in space, and I believe it's avaliable on Android now, also) - or the star map in Elite Dangerous can induce it. It gives me a believable sensation at times that I'll fall upwards, and my body responds and is difficult to control. My mind is trying to make sense of the sensation and is conjuring images of the Earth itself being torn apart or the atmosphere being stripped away. I'll have an intense urge to grab hold of the ground - even grass or anything I can - and I try to resist it but it's nearly impossible, so I'll be walking kind of bent over, losing my balance at times as the sensation throbs and jostles me, steeling my mind and hoping to find a tree or some overhead cover that gives me a sense of relief. Sometimes the feeling is so intense I feel like I might pass out, or even blink out of existence. Sometimes I might hope to. Or crossing a bridge and every step is an intense effort to hold onto the ground with the soles of my feet. It's f*****g terrifying but hilarious at the same time - I know rationally that gravity exists and there is no problem but some part of me overpowers my will, and I can only imagine what it might look like sometimes and it cracks me up, so I'll sometimes be laughing at the same time. But, we weren't made for that - being without gravity or objects of reference and safety and being exposed and acutely and solely aware of the immensity and emptiness of space and your helplessness and relative meaninglessness within it and of it itself - and it must take a lot of self control not to just go hysterically mad in panic. In that image above I see very self-conscious breathing, eyes focused on a target, trying to ignore anything and everything else without and within, and an a**s clenched in Olympic effort. Oh, and if you're ever in that situation: alcohol. Even one beer and I experience none of those things. Not the best all-round advice but, though I rarely drink myself, perfectly suitable, I think, for situations where you're stranded in zero-g. (The word Uranophobia is rarely used or recognised in psychology, but for a descriptive image type the word into Youtube to find a short funny animation from a series called Figaro Pho, a series that humoursly and wordlessly describes phobias and in fact the whole series is pretty good.)

That's a big "Hell, naw," from me. Nnnnnnnope.

Of course he did. Same as all of us have had thoughts while standing on a cliff edge, or holding a sharp knife, it's fundamental human nature.

It is a fascinating thought. Just to drift off and continue in space until the end of the universe or colliding with some star, planet, object... Just like Voyager 1 and 2 have done since 70's and now have left our solar system. Tempting and scary at the same time.
