Most people no longer have to live in the “jungle”, therefore there is no need to constantly worry about one’s survival. It gives us plenty of free time if only we take a minute to actually enjoy it or use it in a way that makes us happy. However, it would be a mistake to assume that there is nothing out there that can end you, either by doing its job slowly and unnoticed or just taking a split second. Scarily enough, there might be things that you thought might do you no harm, and yet their appearance was misleading. These seemingly small or beautiful things can have different features from what you initially expected. So watch out! There might be a coconut coming to get you.

In high school (in the 1970s, yeah I'm ancient), our Driver's Ed class required us to watch videos from the Ohio State Patrol. Not reenactments! They filmed the worst of the worst accident victims at the scenes of the wrecks. The screams of agony, burnt limbs, gushing blood, all of it. And many deceased victims in all their gory glory. You better believe we came out of that class impressed. I believe it still affects my driving 50 years later. Bring those videos back and make them mandatory for driving students!
Yeah, I was forced to watch the accident my aunt was killed in during driver's ed back in the'70s. It wasn't like they planned it, just an unfortunate and traumatic coincidence.

2,000lbs car? Y’all must be from Europe? Oh wait, you’re using the imperial system. So perhaps you’re from 1987? My station wagon weighs 3500lbs. A Ford F150 weighs more like 5,000lbs. SUV’s are even heavier. Force = mass*acceleration. Cars are way more dangerous than you are assuming. EDIT: I tried to find a car that only weighs 2,000lbs. No luck: Honda Fit is 2,500 lbs. VW Polo is over a metric ton. Older Smart cars weighed as little as 1,500lbs, but the one on sale today weigh 2,300 to 2,800lbs! Stay safe out there!
I wonder if they plucked a likely sounding figure out the air. There is the Fiat 500 at 1,100lb and the new Caterham Seven 160 which tips the scales at 1080.27Ib. I'd not personally choose to drive either of those as I find small cars make me feel vulnerable (had a head-on with a lorry so love a long bonnet and a good crumple zone). There are quite a few around the 2500-2800lb size - Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Accent, Toyota Prius C, Subaru BRZ (goes back for second look at that). Want to see tiny and ugly? Citroen Ami. Driving still feels so weird to me. Especially how close we are to cars in the opposite lane. You mean, if I just twitch my wrists slightly, we all die? How is that okay? It also feels like a weird mini-game that got tacked on the the main game but you can't progress until you master it.
Every time I leave my house, I have at least 3 brushes with death because the other driver isn't paying attention. The last trip was a 6.4 km journey to the grocery store and back. Nearly got hit 3 times.
A car bumped into the side of my car I was sitting on a few weeks ago and left a dent. I have been feeling increasing anxiety since then whenever I’m in a car
I'm pretty sure we all know cars are deadly. Some people drive like they don't care though. :(
It terrifies me to drive on a two lane road, and a semi comes in the other lane (especially when I know that the shoulder is a deep hole with the outside unmarked.). Or one of those cars with those horrific led lights. Then you have a semi coming on a two lane rd with these blasted leds.
As a bicyclist I can fully understand that. Please take care, be aware, and it’ll all be okay. :^)

I drive as if everyone is out to kill me. My daughter was also taught that this is the way to drive. I've ridden motorbikes for years, and you have to look at every car as the last thing you may ever see.
My friend (who I've mentioned a few times on here before,) hit a mailbox and shattered her windshield and got glass in her mouth. I woke up to maybe 7-8 texts about what happened, she's okay now thank god, it was scary though.
Agreed. Although with driverless cars, trucks, trains already being used this time will come when the average person will not have autonomy except to plot in their destination. This will be yet another way in which we will lose another freedom. I read also , ( mainstream media), that cars will become communal, ( no ownership). Between AI taking away occupations, ( income will be controlled by the Government), so that people will be entirely on the system.
To make it really worse and f***ed up is when the person at fault lies and tries to sue the other person. How low can a person be?

I used to tell my ex when she was freaking about highly unlikely dangers to our daughter, "She is at a lot more risk from just riding in the car with you driving!" This is the woman that came around a corner in my pickup, hit the gas instead the brake, and drove the truck 50 feet into some poor farmer's field. Tow truck operator had a fun time winching it out, fortunately he had a long cable. Female sheriff came to investigate and decided my ex had done nothing wrong, she was just being a typical woman driver...
I don't drive,and I'm 41 tomorrow- I started learning a few times but I just hate it and I'm happy enough living in my tiny town with everything I need nearby and let my husband do any driving. I can't really tell you why I hate it as I've always gotten on well during lessons, i could likely pass my test if I wanted but something in me just really doesn't want to.

Took 2 weeks time off from work recently. First thing I had to learn was that the job will still be done without me. Second thing I had to learn was that I was not being lazy for taking the time off. After that, relaxing by doing what I wanted to do (instead of rushing through other "important" things) was pure bliss.

Iirc the reason they're dangerous isn't that people aren't aware that Blue Ringed Octopus are deadly poisonous. It's because they're not aware they don't always have blue rings, they just show them when they're stressed. So people find little octopuses in tide pools and such and think they must be fine since they don't have any blue rings.
I didn't know they didn't display until stressed and IM A NATURE FREAK. probably watched 10 documentaries that included blue ringed octopi.

She freaked out, told us it's dangerous and forced us to go out, and when we took a breath of clean air, we had the worst headache known to mankind. If it wasn't for my grandma, God bless her soul, we would've been dead.

Humans are squishy unless they aren't. Somehow we have evolved to either have the durability of a bouncy ball or a glass bauble and its a coin flip on whether you bounce or shatter.
So: Fights. People think it's like in the movies, and sure, maybe sometimes things go okay and you work it out and everythings chill, but if you pick a fight in real life you had better be very ready for the possibility that you could [end] someone, even (ESPECIALLY) if you don't mean to. If you shove someone and they fall wrong, they can die. If they hit their head, or YOU hit them in the head wrong (if you hit someone in the nose just right, a bone can pierce brain, the temple is a very vulnerable spot, etc), they can die. People don't always fight fair in real life, there's every chance they have a knife or keys or rings or even a gun, or they pick up a f*****g shovel and throw it at your head like that video that went viral several years ago. This isn't a "I'm a badass who could totally [end] someone" thing, it's more a survivor bias thing. On average? Yeah, you'll probably be okay. But I'd rather not take the chance, personally.
And no one in movies breaks their hand or finger from punching a skull. That hurts.

Every few years I get a fire safety training, or whatever it is called. There you learn how to operate a fire extinguisher. Which is not that hard, but it's good to learn what to do in a controlled environment when you're not in a panic. The trainers always show the grease fire explosion. They heat a bit of vegetable oil, set in on fire, and then pour water into it (with a loooong pole) Those fireballs are truly impressive and utterly terrifying. You have to see one to really understand what a bad combination water and burning oil is.

Running a power wire for a car audio amplifier in your door jamb. Every time you open and shut your door you are pinching the wire between two pieces of metal. Eventually, it wears through the insulation and if you are lucky the fuse blows or the battery explodes before your car catches on fire. Space heaters can be very dangerous in general. Old ones don't have safety switches and can start a fire if they tip over on something flammable. Most are designed to pull as close as possible to the maximum current outlets are designed to deliver, putting a strain on the wiring in the wall, too.
