Why can't I upvote this more? The world needs more people like this brother. This mother. This sister. We need- NEED- now more than ever to know we are one world, one family. We have the technology and money and power to fix these problems, but we focus on the wrong things.

Well said. My grandfather is a doctor-veteran who cries every time he loses a patient. He takes flowers to the graves of some of his patients.

I am very sorry, but I can't continue reading these because I can't stop crying. They are all amazing stories, and it's a bittersweet reminder that we should all live the best life that we can, because we never know when it ends.

My grandma died of stage 4 lung cancer, though she never smoked, when I was 8 years old. I think of her everyday, my best friend, and am grateful for the doctors. They said she would inevitably die soon, but lived for another 8 months. Thank you doctors!

They really need to stop making someone work for 32hrs. It might be dangerous for patients, nevermind for doctor/resident.

Agreed. I'm a hospital registrar in the emergency room. The last thing I do is place an ID bracelet on the patient, lightly grasp their hand, and reassure them. It isn't much. Sometimes, it makes a difference.

I'll never understand how parents can be so cruel. When you're pregnant, it's "I don't care if it's a boy or a girl so long as they're healthy." And then they drop their kids like trash when they can't handle something. Parents like that should be ashamed of themselves and never allowed a moment's happiness.

I think because of character limits, they skipped a comma, but I read that several times like "dad had shot your mom" and "your brother wounded your sister" as if the dad and one child had both gone crazy. Had to read it a couple times to get it right.

I can't read these anymore. I'm sitting in a Starbucks trying my best not to cry. I'll finish them at home where I can let my tears flow.

It is so sad that things like this happen. Abortion is one of those polarizing subjects that people can feel so strongly about, and women are suffering and dying because of it. Fewer stubborn opinions and more humanity, please.

My grandmother, born in 1905, often said, "of course I believe in abortion, I've seen too many women die with coat hangers in them." She was not one to mince words.

This is such a touchy subject. When will the world learn that women have rights as to what to do with their bodies in the same way as men? It is, after all, her own body and what becomes of it.

Eye-opening for me. I honestly never thought women would do it without a professional.

While this story is very sad (so young girl), I disagree with this comment's conclusion. If you do something illegal, you usually go to "doctors" who should never do anything medical in the first place because they are charlatans. Your choice.

That's the problem--there is no choice. If she had a choice, she would go to a doctor who could perform the procedure safely.

There are controls available to prevent abortions: 1. Marry proper people 2. Don't have sex out of marriage There will be no need for abortions. I am sure you would not love even to imagine, that your parents could stop your life for their own reasons.

What if you marry a proper person and don't want to have sex out of marriage but get raped?

I always view with suspicion the 'too pat' stories with SJW hashtags....makes them look fake. Tell your story and let us all draw our OWN conclusions, don't try to tell us how to feel.

I honestly believe abortions should ONLY be allowed if there is a MAJOR health risk. If you abort because you don't want to take responsibility for your actions thats just stupid and selfish. I mean wtf theres so many families out there unable to have kids and you'd rather murder your child than take responsibility for something you did...great on you. you're such a wonderful human being....

Really? What if you're raped? What if you're a child and you're raped? What if you're raped by your own father? How many babies have you adopted? How many babies have all of you anti-choice fanatics adopted?

I happen to respond well to emergencies, and completely fall apart afterward. This poor mom must have felt so panicked and lost. I can't imagine seeing my child in distress like that and not knowing how/ not being able to react. It's a nightmare I'm blessed to not have, and hope I never have.

my aunt died of whooping cough aged 5 - many years before I was born. I too cannot comprehend why people would not want their children to be immune to this and all the other infectious childhood diseases that decades of vaccination programs have almost eradicated
