Every year is notorious for different reasons. 2019 was the year of Trump’s public impeachments, full of highs and lows. And 2020… do we even really need to go there? I mean, this notorious sum up we published last year should do the job instead.
And it turned out that the year 2021 was no less messed up. With the pandemic becoming the new normal and changing the ways we live beyond recognition, making the real estate prices soar and leaving millennials in an eternal state of rental despair, the time of uncertainty proved to be the perfect breeding ground for false assumptions, fake news, and totally crazy myths. And boy, we had a ton of them.
So should we just give this year a medal for basically the dumbest 365 days in modern history? Well, below are some posts to prove we should. If not, we may wait for the next year to see if that one’s gonna be up for the challenge.

as someone who has been homeless outside we would rather sleep UNDER the benches to prevent being soaked by the rain | here in belgium they do their upmost best to prevent the homeless from sleeping in.. places put poles in any flat surface, block porchessend policemen to arrest the homeless ( includeing searching them which means getting us naking yes even underage teenage me! cops do this! so really sleeping inside of a station where there are CAMERAS and you know people will tell on you and get the police ((some people-quisling even offer to take you in call the cops when you're not looking keep an eye on you and get you arrested so we don't stay in the streets being completely harmless but stay in a cell after having been stripped!!)

From anti-vaxxers coming up with the most insane conspiracy theories to an unprecedented spike in online disinformation, people were not shy to come across as, let’s say, not exactly the brightest ones.

If I had received that assignment I wouldn’t give an F minus because that would be too high. I would give a Z minus (which I know it’s made up but I think we should make a whole other grading system for people like this) I would only give a Z minus if it was well written but I doubt that would be possible for a person with an IQ score in the negatives.

I’m so sorry! I grew up in poverty, but it was in the 1960s, so there were still safety nets, and we always ate. Sometimes we ate one big pot of beans (Navy beans, Pinto beans, White beans) for weeks on end, but we always ate. But my grandparents paid for us to get new shoes for school, and my grandmother made us clothes as well. I knew where every secondhand store in Santa Clara County was located, because that’s where we got everything else. Amazingly, I still love secondhand shopping.

Yes this does happen in the U.S. Sometimes if their parents are behind on the lunch fund, they still get a sandwich with a slice of cold cheese and maybe a carton of milk. There are children who have had the lunch they selected taken away from them when they get to the end of the line and it comes up that the account is out of money. The fact that this child did this to help others is honor parade worthy. Some parents are too embarrassed to participate in the free lunch programs, if offered at all. My child's school handled it in such a way that nobody knew what kids got a free lunch. Again, free lunch programs are not always offered and some families do not "officially" qualify.

Credit check companies. When a "desk based trace" is completed for someone the vast majority of the information will come from Experian or similar. This includes details of addresses, aliases, other people who are registered at the same address, credit cards and their limits, mortgage payments, bank accounts (including joint) and of course any type of credit that has been applied for including mobile phone contracts... All this nonsense about "not wanting to be tracked by the government" makes me laugh. Give them a legit reason to look you up (like tax evasion or non payment of child support) and there isn't much that can't be found within about half an hour of searching the right database. (This was once my job!)

I've been asked the same by a game company when something didn't happen in the game. Used to receive a social security survivorship check for my young daughter when my husband died. One month it didn't arrive so I called a main number for them. The woman told it me it was cashed so they couldn't issue another one. She said that I needed to call my bank and get a a copy of the cancelled check. I said "Why would my bank have a copy of a check I never received? Social security produced the check and social security would have a copy of the cancelled check". Her reply: "well I DON"T HAVE IT". I'm sure SHE did not and there was no offer to the pursue the matter so I hung up. Went down to their local office in person and they were very helpful . Months later they confirmed it had been fraudulently cashed. In another state. At a bank where I've never had an account. They spelled my name and my child's name incorrectly when they signed.

I'm curious how many masks you wear since adding more reduces the transmission. Even Fauci recommended more than one mask at one point. BTW: I wear masks but have concerns on benefit\risk for children. The data has not been consistent, but I guess I should just wear as many as I can since each one will reduce the avoidance of spreading Covid. No discussion here only hype.

I had covid (I am fine it was mild) and my friend also had it. Her entire family got it. Her grandfather had heart issues. She got home from school after being quarantined and there was an ambulance. He was hospitalized for multiple days. He died a few weeks ago. COVID is a myth? Tell that to the millions of dead people and their families.

OK, for the umpteenth time: Landlords do not hvae to operate under the same strict regulations for lending (post-2008) that *mortgage lenders* do. I'm sorry, but a landlord may figure you're a safe bet, but Fannie Mae or USDA or so forth will *not*. Clean up your credit, establish solid savings, get a down payment. Why these rules? B/c people got houses when they didn't have a chance of affording them, to fuel the mortgage-backed securities boom of the early 2000s, and the foreclosures were a factor in making the system disintegrate, b/c suddenly all this value wasn't there anymore, and here we are.

Agreed, as someone who actually works in the financial industry, there is a lot more to owning a house than a mortgage. Ironically, my mortgage itself is $942/m. That's just the mortgage. My property taxes this year are $5480. My homeowners insurance was $3,300 and flood insurance is $680. Add those all up and the cost of just owning my house is $1,730/m.

As someone who rented from 1994 until 2015 i can assure you- owning a home with a reasonable mortgage saves you money, regardless of “hidden costs” (The exception possibly being if you live somewhere with a very cheap rent). My last apartment was $1800 fpr a 1br plus gas and electric. Parking was additional and laundry came out to three dollars a load in the laundry room. This is from someone who had to have roof and electrical repair in November. Not only that, my rent increased almost every single year I rented with the exception of 2008-2009 because my landlord was decent about the entire economy collapsing. I ended up moving quite frequently, a huge expense and itself, because rent prices were out of my control and continued to go up outpacing cost of living dramatically.

Damn it is expensive to be poor and homeownership is moving into the realm of middle class and rich persons ONLY. We now have corporations buying up homes and rental properties, raising the prices obscenely and selling them into a housing market where prices have skyrocketed. This keeps a large population of people in the poverty trap, constantly overpaying for basic life necessities and unable to even think of home ownership. How on earth will the next generation even have a chance of improving their lot?

Whilst from a personal viewpoint it doesn't make sense, Banks are a business, and a heavily regulated one, so need to look at the wider picture. Part of the reason the crash in 2008 was so bad was banks had been lending far too much, and much too easily when people didn't have savings or significant deposits, with the result that once the economy change, people didn't have the income to meet repayments. Whilst it makes sense to me today that I can afford to pay my rent, I can afford to make mortgage repayments that are less, the bank needs to look at the likelihood that in 20 years I am still going to be able to meet those repayments. Things like credit history, other debts, income, work history and how much of a deposit you have to start with all need to be taken into consideration before entering into a long term loan with someone.

There are labs right now that are working on alternative methods of COVID vaccine delivery. 10% of people have a fear of needles, and a good chunk of them are not getting vaccinated because of it. Case in point: my husband. I’ve been fully vaccinated since April, and have an appointment for my booster this week. My husband has yet to even think of getting his jab, because he has a deathly—-to the point of being crippling—-fear of needles. He would gladly take a vaccine pill or wear a vaccine patch, but he cannot face being injected. I hope a pill, liquid, or patch form comes out soon, so I can stop being on high alert every time I hear him cough or sniffle (I know that, even in a pandemic, people still get the common cold, but I still worry).

In the 70s, Nestle sponsored a program in Africa to provide mothers with enough baby formula until their breast milk dried up. The mothers were not properly informed when they were given the formula that they thought was going to make their babies healthy and the majority of them could not read as there were no schools. The formula was so expensive that mothers could only provide their children with 1/4-1/3 the recommended amount which caused mass starvation. That, and the fact that proper storage of the formula required refrigeration and the targeted populations didn't even have electricity, contributed to slow genocide as mothers watched their infants starve to death. I was a very small child when My mother took me on a protest march to boycott Nestle and raise awareness to their atrocities.

Overheard a person when I was looking for sunscreen at the store telling others that sunscreen has something in it that draws the sun. Sunscreen attracts the radiation and makes getting skin cancer more likely. Said her dermatologist told her. Blew my mind.

I am so embarrassed to live in the same town as this idiot. Temecula never shut down, never closed (all) its indoor dining and such, and had many parents who protested that mask wearing was child abuse. For a Southern California winery town, we are painfully conservative and Republican. I got called more names than I care to remember for wearing a mask when I was out in public. I just don't get it and I want to move. If the housing market wasn't so upside down, I'd sell out of here in a heart beat.

If you really want to help local restaurants and get food delivered, be old fashioned. CALL the restaurant, ask if you can pick up or what delivery service they prefer. Many now have their own cuz that's still cheaper than the uber or door dash or any of those other services that have pushed themselves into middle of food delivery service. Kind of like the old days where the mob would demand protection money so nothing bad would happen to your store.

When the bad things become evident, then post a lot of memes about how awful it is for likes. (Example: It was clear that Uber and Lyft provided zero benefit and alot of harm, but people went for it anyway. The only benefit was "convenience", but it's a hell of a lot more convenient to just call a number and give two addresses than to: 1) Create a login account with all your info, 2) Reset your password every time you want to use it, 3) Deal with the website every time 4) Deal with unprofessional Uber drivers every time , 5) Have to give your "professional" driver directions instead of sitting back and relaxing in a taxi.

I have a side load car with a wheelchair ramp since I'm disabled. One day I was waiting with my blinker on for a handicap spot. Unfortunately the people in the car backed out in a way that blocked me from turning in until they left the aisle. Out of nowhere this guy comes from the opposite direction, driving the wrong way on a one way area. I had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting him. He didn't even have a handicap plate or placard. I yelled out did he not see I was waiting for the spot and that I needed that space to be able to get out my vehicle? He yelled back "I did, but too bad, I'm parked here now Karen." And continued to scream "you're a Karen you're a Karen" until I gave up and went in search of another spot. I think I was most pissed that the jerk who illegally drove the wrong way and illegally parked in a handicap spot was calling ME a Karen.

Well, this is somehow true to some machines, in vehicles the only common use is in military equipment, to be prepared for not being able to choose - high or low ROZ, highly ignitable or a bit hard to make burn, even powderous fuels may be runnable in some. But ... but ... water it down ... damned, how can they even? In 1st grade, I had a schoolmate who thought that water is kind of like the principle of being liquid - every liquid, he thought, may be dried into a powder so you can re-liquify it by adding ... water. Benzinpulver, gasoline powder, was the one application of his ideas he valued higher than all the others - because ... that would be handy and stuff. He's a doctor of some sort of history now, and I quit his friendship when it became a bit too onesided - always only giving, and never being even considered a true friend can hurt more than the people hurting by that deserve to be able to ... their ability-powders shall never be watered up again!

I didn't want to feed my kid green beef so I decided to meet with a doctor to check his knees for infection. He had a keen sense of sight and he was really sweet, but the stairs in his house were steep and his swimming pool was too deep so to repay the favor I fixed it for him. His dog was kinda meek so I gave him a sweater made of fleece and then fixed a steel pipe in his backyard. My son needed to seek a stick to play with the doctor's dog but fell into a pile of weeds and got cuts on his legs. At the turn of a wheel the doctor wrapped his leg in bandages and felt the need to have some tea. It was sea tea so it increased his speed (undertale, anyone?) and the queen came for a visit. The doctor felt seen and I started to sweep so the queen could step on clean floor. Clean feet. A bird outside went "tweet" and then it was night. None of that made literally any sense.

Gee sometimes i feel the need to run after a bee but then i stop and think I should actually get some beers and meet with my friend Eileen McGhee and ask her for a wee favor this week to have a peek in her deep cabinet to see if there is place and if she is keen on keeping some of my seeds safe. I know my chances are bleak but at least I'm not meek. Sorry had a beer or two too much

The title especially. Does nobody realize how badass LotR/Silmarillion girls are? Sure, there's not many, but not only are they cool, guys respect them. The only time I can think of people putting them down are shitty dad's who insisted their elven daughters couldn't marry humans (and they got their desserts) and Theoden telling Eowyn to look after the people while he was at war (but then again who the f**k else was going to do that, LotR countries were very firm about following their royal lines)

Only if you qualify - my pediatrician told me he had a mother of a diabetic child whose income bracket was too high and her workplace healthcare wouldn't cover her child's meds - my doc told her to go to part time so her kid could get on Medicaid and the supplies would be covered.

This is actually what a lot of the shelves look like by me. Between this and only one or 2 of each item. I agree it is BS, and it is a game the corporations are playing ... who will break 1st. Large price hikes and small wage increase. American's ... remember when they had to raise prices because gas was so expensive? When the price of gas went down... did the cost of products ever follow? Nope and we took it without lube.

I'm guessing you've heard it too much and it rubs you the wrong way. I will be more aware from today of not making this error. I don't think I've told a 'blonde joke' in years but I used to I'm sure, and I didn't consider over the years it actually does have harmful undertones. I don't know where it all originated though? I've heard that it was due to long term bleaching being bad for your brain cells back in the day, but that sounds like it could be bogus too 🤷♀️ it's like red head hatred: honestly most of the world has hair some shade of brown, and maybe we are all a bit jealous of the natural beauty and uniqueness of look that red and blonde haired ppl have in spades and shades. From a jelly brunette with red tones that you can hardly see, so yeah, brunette. Boring lol
