Food delivery has been a thing for a while, but apps like Doordash and others have changed the game up quite a bit. With smartphones, photo confirmation, and a greater number of orders due to changing consumer habits, the Doordash community’s chance encounters have produced a lot of fun pics to share with the world!
Not all of them are fun, of course. In some cases, images may reflect the pressure that people may find themselves under as they juggle multiple jobs and time-sensitive Doordash deliveries just to make ends meet. Fortunately, some of them simply reflect the fun human encounters that can always happen when strangers meet.

Officially The 3rd Stray I've Rescued Since I Began Dashing
I just really hope they are actually stray dogs. They should be headed to a shelter to make sure the animals didn’t just get loose and are reported missing. I lost a dog this way. She escaped our fenced in yard after a storm and didn’t realize there was a hole and someone took her thinking she was a stray. They kept her for 2 weeks until a neighbor of hers went to the police. She admitted she saw my missing dog signs but wanted to keep her because she was so sweet. She had to pay a hefty fine and got probation

While some encounters are quite positive and heartwarming, others portray quite unpleasant behavior from both delivery people and customers alike. The pics share some of the best and worst attributes of humanity.

Once upon a time, on the spookiest of spooky nights, I had to deliver food to a house in middle of nowhere. I had no idea what was in the packet, but there was a bad smell coming from it. As I stepped out of my vehicle, a cold breeze blew on my face, making the hair on the back of my neck stand, sending a shiver down my spine. I had a bad feeling about this, but I had to do my job. I took a deep breath and walked towards the house. When I reached the door, I could not help but look what was in the packet. Inside was a severed human head, which was smiling. I ran as fast as I could but then I remembered I hadn't taken a picture for a proof, so I turned around and took a picture as I have to get paid. Idk a stupid story I came up with

An article by consulting firm McKinsey & Company puts the meteoric rise of food delivery businesses into context: “A little under two decades ago, restaurant-quality meal delivery was still largely limited to foods such as pizza and Chinese. Nowadays, food delivery has become a global market worth more than $150 billion, having more than tripled since 2017.”
This Made My Night
See, we’re not all a******s. We understand unexpected setbacks at work, as we’ve had them ourselves at our own jobs. We also know that squeaky wheels might get greased, but they only get the minimum, and that you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar. Metaphors aside, a******s might get appeased, but they won’t be welcome back, while people who are kind and understanding very often not only get what they requested, they usually get the staff going the extra mile for them, and maybe even something extra thrown in for being so nice—-plus when they come back they’re greeted at the door and given the best service. You see, when you’re not being served properly, you can be stern but polite at the same time. No yelling, no fussing, no threats necessary. You also need to direct your ire at the proper person in the food chain. If a manager is the one implementing rules that f**k up your order, then don’t kill the messenger by berating the innocent server, sock it to the manager who actually deserves it, ffs! I not only worked in customer service type jobs for decades, I also have a Masters Degree in Conflict Resolution, and learned about a multitude of EFFECTIVE ways to deal with difficult situations. Yelling, threatening, stamping your feet, holding your breath til you turn blue, breaking things, and having a meltdown temper tantrum are NOT effective. Calmly and rationally discussing it, with the proper person who actually has the authority to help you, is way way more effective. However, that takes a great degree of self control, something not everyone, including adults who should know better, seems to possess these days.
If everyone had that attitude, the world would be a much better place....

I agree but I have a friend who is a door dasher and he makes more through tips than they would ever pay. However, the gas and fees eat a lot into the money. So I instead suggest they partially refund mileage or gas.
Load More Replies...They’re offering to send them an extra tip not through Door Dash, whose tip service is taxed, while tipping directly to the individual isn’t. If I found out my delivery person or server was experiencing some real hard financial times, I’d do the same or similar (if I found out before they got their, I’d meet them at the door with a generous additional cash tip).
The switch to new interfaces between restaurant customers and their food was bound to happen as tech innovators worked to expand the role of apps in our lives, but global lockdown efforts for the COVID-19 pandemic had an especially significant role to play in the proliferation of these apps. As McKinsey & Company writes, “Lockdowns and physical-distancing requirements early on in the pandemic gave the category an enormous boost, with delivery becoming a lifeline for the hurting restaurant industry. Moving forward, it is poised to remain a permanent fixture in the dining landscape.”

Despite their proliferation, however, it is clear that working in the industry isn’t a cakewalk. Industry representatives claim that margins are quite thin and that the business has high costs. Depending on the region and on the app (there’s much more out there than just DoorDash), restaurants may be taking a hit by working with these apps as well.

from the Dasher on Reddit: "I was delivering food at midnight to take advantage of the $22/hr payment. The only place really open that late is a pizza place downtown, so I went there and waited for delivery. This one came up and I got the food and then saw the instructions. I called around and could not find a ladder, but I went and gave him his food and he was in fact locked into a self-serve storage area behind a chain link barbed wire fence because the gate code deactivated at 10 pm. We talked for a bit, discussed options, and I used doordash's emergency service to get the non-emergency number for the police department and contacted them. He thanked me for the pizza and said he was going to sleep in his car until either help arrived or the gate code worked again at 5 am."

The average food delivery platform customer may not realize that the apps charge on both ends of their order. In addition to the service fee you pay as a consumer, the restaurant will pay (usually between 15-30% of the order price) for the pleasure of reaching a broader consumer base thanks to the app. Depending on the restaurant and the market, this may significantly reduce or even eliminate their profit margins.

Load More Replies...I’m sure it’s an AI response. I’ve found DoorDash’s credit policy very fair in comparison to UberEats. It all depends on what option you select. For example, it looks like this one was “poor packaging,” but had they selected “order not received,” they would’ve gotten a full refund. The most UberEats has ever offered was $5. Didn’t receive my $12.99 meal… $5 credit. Undercooked (raw) chicken on an $18.99 meal… $5 credit. Even if you speak with a person… I didn’t get my $12.99 meal… but we gave you a $5 credit, what more do you want? $7.99! I want another $7.99!!! DoorDash, on the other hand… So sorry that happened! Here’s $20. BUT… select the right type of credit you’re looking for.

Flash back to Uber Eats support asking me to send a picture of the missing items of my order
Im Done With Doordash!
Granted, what this driver did was completely unacceptable but let me explain a few things. Dasher base pay is $3.00 per completed delivery. Uber Eats is $2.50. We can see in advance whether or not you've tipped us and yes, we understand that you might tip in cash or adjust it after the delivery. That almost NEVER happens. Far more often we get tip baited where customers offer a generous tip up front to incentivize a driver to pick up the order, and then they reduce it to a few cents or zero once we accept it. Happens multiple times a day. Also, delivery app drivers are not employees. We are independent contractors who work for ourselves under the supervision of the platform. Our base pay doesn't even cover the gas we use bringing customers their food. The only chance to earn income is with tips. Some rare nice people are fair about it. Most are not. If you are against tipping or have some kind of point to prove, this is NOT the hill to die on. Having someone prepare your food, then having someone else retrieve it and drive it to you, already places this into the luxury service category. You simply cannot make both arguments at the same time; that you both can't/won't tip yet you still want this very convenient service performed for you. I give customers a HUGE benefit of the doubt, they may be ill or disabled, not have a vehicle, etc. But that obviously doesn't apply to 95% of the population. Tip your drivers fairly as long as your food arrives intact and on time. If you're not going to, please pick up your own food or only order from restaurants that have their own free delivery option. /Fin
Never used this service (rural England) but you explained that all brilliantly. Great point as well. It's amazing how people don't see this as big luxury, which comes with a price tag. I can't believe you get paid so, so little each pick up!!! That's appalling!!! If ever I use the service I will remember this. The tip baiting is also awful. Don't they realise how demoralising that is? I think once it's committed it should stay like that unless there is an issue on delivery.

Indeed, the existence of these apps has allowed for a new type of restaurant to flourish that may challenge the traditional types of places that we sometimes like to visit. As McKinsey & Company point out, “This pressure on traditional restaurants could be tightened further by the proliferation of “dark kitchens” (a restaurant that has no front of house for customers) and other delivery-first and delivery-only restaurant models. Since these lower-overhead businesses can afford to pay the platforms’ higher commissions, they are often featured more prominently in the platforms’ apps.”
The Best Customer Ever
Keep trying to figure out how to set up something like this for Uber drivers delivering to the store. I usually verbally invite them to grab some chips or a drink (as well as a regular tip, of course) but they nearly always decline and the whole thing is a bit awkward.
Could put a sign at the register or have a small display with items with a sign that say "Free to dashers". But then people might take it claiming to be a dasher.

The apps have also been reluctant to provide their delivery workers with the wages and benefits that some laborers expect. People who rely on the gig economy may be especially vulnerable, and efforts to ensure that they get the benefits they need can shake up the industry. “Shifts in how independent contractors are paid, as well as what benefits they receive, could significantly shake up the economics for all major stakeholders across the marketplace,” McKinsey & Company writes.

A lot of hotels won’t allow delivery to anywhere but the lobby or valet. Sounds like this guy is in a hotel.

For this past year also all our delivery drivers have started calling us to come and collect from them as they park on my street. I live in the suburbs, my driveway is short and close to the road, it’s not an apartment or difficult to find place, parking is ample on the street and driveway. I ask for door delivery because I am usually in the midst of getting kids bathed and put to bed. I know that these drivers are under the pump, but I can’t think of any other reason than that they can’t be bothered.
Load More Replies...I clearly state "Leave at front door" for all my Instacart orders. I check the box that says it, and also type it in the special instructions. One delivery, I get a text that the order is here and driver is waiting for me to open the door. I go to the door, she's already back in her car. Read much?
I have specific instructions to ring my door bell, then leave it on the porch. I often don't get or hear the notifications on my phone, but always hear my bell. It isn't hard, since all you have to do is reach up and press the button as you drop off the food. Yet about half the dashers ignore this, and often I am left waiting, not knowing my food is now cold outside my door.
Door dash delivered my food in the lobby of my building next to a sign that says don't leave packages here and it was stolen
Is 21% Tip Enough?
I have given up. I don't go anywhere or use any services where a tip may be expected. I do my own shopping, cook my own food drive my own a*s around. I know it's a boomer thing but tips are for good service, not just any service or for just doing your job. I know the workers would prefer to receive a living wage but by withholding my business I am telling the employer that I am not happy with guilting me into paying the wages they don't want to.
Too many places ask for tips. I do have a question though: does Starbucks pay their employees waiter or employee salaries? They always ask for a tip but I feel it is the exact job to make my coffee and you have to take my order to make money so I never tip. I assumed they get full wages or am I wrong?
Load More Replies...21% is awesome, so many don't tip at all. On DD you can't see the tip until after delivery. If you can afford to order delivery, you can afford a tip.
As a deliveroo rider, i would've had my entire day made if i got that big of a tip tf
Depends on the distance the driver had to go, but they always have the option not to take an order
Even if I was in a country where tips aren’t necessary—-and confirmed that it’s not a sign of disrespect—-if I get phenomenal service, I’ll give them something for it, over and above their wages, anyway. If you give more than 100% of what’s required for your job, you should be compensated for it, if not in wages from your employer, then in a tip from me, ffs.
In the UK going on our usual tipping at restaurants - if we want to that is! The tip on this would be £5.63 or rounded to £5.70.
Depends on how far away the delivery was. It’s a better tip than most for sure. But if my round trip miles are more than 12 miles then NOPE, I wouldn’t take it.
As consumers, it’s worth thinking twice before completing an order on our food delivery app of choice. On the one hand, we could be providing a local gig worker with a slice of much-needed income. On the other, we could be depriving a beloved but struggling local restaurant of some much-needed income.
Didn't Get My Sandwich. Had Dd Re-Deliver The Order. Dd Sent Me 6 Redeliveries Using 6 Different Dashers
Had this happen with Just Eat in the Uk and messaged customer services to ask a- had I been charged for the extras and b- what to do with them? They said I wouldn't be and I could keep them or give them away etc. our driver said she saw a homeless person round the corner from my hotel, so we both took the extra food to them and asked if they wanted it. They did and it meant they got food and it didn't go to waste. A happy ending to a mishap

But the customer would have to tip each of you or they would look/feel awful

No delivery/service person should have to deal with either pets or wild animals.
The title should have been "I'm a cat person". 15K deliveries completed and what I find disturbing are the DashHoles who deliver with their pets in the car with them, including cats. "Hello customer, here's your order. Here's some dander and dingleberries from where my dog was sitting before I placed your order on it. Hope you aren't allergic and/or pregnant" DD doesn't care either if you report them.
Who Is In The Wrong Here?
Arsehole deserves to lose the job, could at least tell the person where the food is.
Should’ve climbed those stairs to the apartment. I understand it may have been the umteenth delivery up several flight of stairs that day, but it’s your job. If you can’t go upstairs, then you’re off the hook, though a picture of it in the lobby would’ve been necessary. However, if you have access right to the apartment door, then that’s where you drop it and take the picture. You can never go wrong if you think of it this way; deliver the food to your customers exactly the way YOU would want them to deliver the food to YOU.
Load More Replies...Tbh if I was told it was delivered with no instructions of where it was left if not outside my door, I would think the same. Saw This In My Apartment Stairs After Hearing A Loud Noise And Being Notified My Order Was Cancelled
I’m not defending it, but what exactly do you expect them to do? They aren’t provided any sort of cleaning products. Even if they have towels or some thing for a case this happens, they still have to go back outside to their car to pick it up. They’re not carrying a backpack with Windex and some towels.

Dasher Snapped A Photo Of My House From The Street. Food Nowhere To Be Found
Unbelievable! Wow. Every DD I've ever had has been perfect. I had no idea there were so many bad experiences.
I had one get lost somehow once but she called me and we figured out that the restaurant had to manually type in addresses and mistyped. You'd think they would know the city and that there is no 100 block of my street! Otherwise have had none of this weirdness
Load More Replies...What an idiot for not being able to read. This Dd needs to find a new job where reading isn't needed. Not sure there is one anymore.
Interesting Choice
Or throwing a proximity mine in front (or just beside out of view) of the door.
Load More Replies...I reckon they thought it was a good idea, keeping it off the ground but didn't think it through.
My door opens to the outside, they ALWAYS put it directly snugged up in front of the door, when in the instructions it says to put it on the little table beside my door 🤦♂️
If you turn it up, you lock the door here in my country. And most handles don't go upwards
My Doordasher Is Stuck In The Elevator
This person deserves some of the evil dished out to other customers. Do something about the delivery person trapped in an elevator! Call someone for them!
Quite possibly the number is shown in the lift, but they don't have it themselves to call it for them. Also, the lift company may want to speak to the person in the lift to see where they are stuck and offer help to get the lift going again.
Load More Replies...Depends on the lift/elevator. Some you can, some you can't. A lot depends on the building, the lift itself, any thing that may block the signal. There are 2 elevators where hubby used to work where you'd lose the signal just getting in. One never cut you off, 3 others you'd never know. The working one was newer, like 5 years old, the 2 were over 25 years old. Just never know. Plus, many times you're text works even if the phone doesn't
Load More Replies...Well That’s An Interesting Name
I would complain to DD if I saw that username. That's hostile and if it isn't against their terms of service, it would be once they found out!

LANDAIGSBUL xD I had to see if the capital letters made anything- guess not lol
Waited An Hour For Taco Bell Delivery From Less Than A Mile Away. They Didn’t Drop Off My Food, Only The Drink. $22 For A Beverage
I don't get these. You see so many stories like this on social media. Are door dash going through awful drivers like candy or do they just not give a damn?
I get deliveries from many different services. I honestly feel that ten per cent of the delivery people are thieves and another ten per cent really don't care or don't know about doing the delivery properly.
Load More Replies...Got sent to Little Ceasers once upon a time, restaurant was out of Pizza Sauce and wings, but made the customers order anyway - Little Ceaser's expected me to deliver half an order (no wings) with no pizza sauce on the pizza. They didn't even ask the customer, they just made the sauceless pizza
On DD, orders are sealed (Stapled or tied shut) we deliver what we're given at the restaurant, but this is a big miss.
OMG that happened to me to! well, i got my food, but TB was almost right across the street (couldn't walk due to mobility issue and not having car at the moment) Driver drove to the other side of town after picking up my food, then back to me. Took almost an hour and a half.
I Have Seen Horror Stories Of Bad Dashers But Never Thought I'd Get One
Is that because you keep cancelling any order you don’t like?
They didn't mention how many 1 star ratings they have. But definitely should add to it.
All it takes is one bad review to set things into motion that you will realize later was a bad move on your part Ddasher.
Dasher Left Food In Bushes
To b fair, I had an order where I was given an incorrect address and the person didn't answer, so that's what DD told me to do and to take a pic of it
Guess Ryan wanted the customer to see the price of gas...
I've had dashers decide, instead of bringing it to my front door (which is found by following a lit path to a front porch with a lit house number) they instead go through my yard and throw it over my back deck railing.
I have had some tough deliveries, but I would never do this. I would be too worried about getting fired.

What BS. A tip is for good service. Therefore, the tip is given AFTER the service has been provided.

This Is My Second Time Using Doordash. I Put A $5 Tip On A $20.63 Order. Is This A Common Thing? I Feel Bad And Wondering If I Should Go In And Add An Extra Couple Bucks
What? This person needs to check their reading comprehension. The Dasher is not asking for more money!! She's just asking them to give her a good rating if they are happy with her service. There's nothing wrong with this note at all!
$5 is about a 25%% tip, so yes you did it right—-more than right, in fact.
Food Was Destroyed
I think this was at the BJ's I work at. I heard it used to be really bad here and they called the cops once a week to break up fights like this. Glad we have new management now.
So I Got This As A Tip Today. Customer Told Me I Could Sell It And Get Some Cash Out Of It
I can't make out what's in the bag, but if it's genuinely a 1kg silver bar that's awesome. Silver is around $770 a kilo.
1 ounce= 28g. Pretty sure that's a tiny bit more than an ounce lolz.

This is why most places seal the bag (either with a sticker or a specific kind of sealable bag) so you can tell right away if someone f****d with your food
But they don't seal the drink! Not that I've heard of, anyway.

My Driver Ate One Of My Cookies
Is it possible someone at the provider's end did that? It wasn't visible in the bag, right?
This is why I can never deliver food. I have to muster the most will power I have in me and even that would still allow me to take a couple of fries or break off small pieces of something. My max for that would be for about 2 miles at 60mph with no stoplights

There's nothing that pisses me off more than people breeding pit bulls, you know how many are in shelters at the moment. Please spay/neuter your pets, especially pit bulls.
Is there like a related health issue in pit bulls or should they not be bred due to shelter overpopulation? For the former I can see why you would be against it, but if it's due to shelter overpopulation as long as the family keeps them are you also against the breeding of these dogs as well? https://cuddleclones.com/blogs/all/top-10-dog-breeds-most-commonly-found-in-shelters

Great Job Dude!
I Just Wanted Nuggys
Hell, I'm a Christian and I would absolutely report this dasher for this. You don't foist your religion on someone PAYING YOU for a service (or anyone really) especially when it could be interpreted as holding their FOOD hostage in order to force them to listen to you. Especially since the order had already been reassigned once.
nah, they're pushing their religion on a stranger, not 'just being nice'. a simple 'god bless' is one thing, this is way out of bounds to say to a total stranger. Super creepy and rude.
Load More Replies...Woah as someone religious this is not cool!!!! Super weird we don't push religion.... We will explain what we believe and why. We will offer you a way to the holy spirit when asked. But that wasn't even the end of the message she went overboard. What she doing could actually push more people away. Tsk.
Dd Cancelled My 9-Pizza Little Caesars Delivery Due To An Unresponsive Customer

They are the driver the picked up the pizza tried to deliver it. Called customer customer doesn't answer so dd says keep it. I assume they took it home.

When it first started it was quite reasonable. Now that delivery costs more than the food, its not worth it.

I assume Doordash has options to either drop off or deliver to a person. If the order was flagged as the latter then the driver seems to be in the right.
U can only drop it if you have proof and that means taking a photo through the app. I understand the drivers frustrating but the customer could have not even been there. Could have had the food delivered to meet them there. Could have been in a cast, on the toilet. So esh.......but also no one sucks.

The Ability To Get Quick Refunds For Small Things Is Great, This Is Pathetic Though
Not sure what the complaint here is about? Is it because it's taking 7 minutes to get a reply? Or is it because the person wants a refund in the first place?
It didn't take seven minutes.... The message was seven minutes ago. Support reached back out to her immediately. Not sure why it's on this list though because it wouldn't be a door dash issue it would be the store the food came from issue, but dd escalated it to a supervisor just in case the issue takes more of a life than just a refund because a metal screw is sue worthy.

When my son was living at home he ordered food and had it delivered via Door Dash. I was curious how much it cost. Between the food, the delivery and the tip I almost bit my tongue off keeping my mouth shut.
i refuse to use these services. They are dangerous on bicycles (most of them here are on bikes, phones in hand, running through red lights, ignoring all traffic rules and safety) and they hardly make any money, plus all the extra cringe that comes with it.
I sent food to my elderly mother and get a call from the Dasher. Mom fell backward while opening the door. Dasher got her up and to the sofa, called me to tell me what happened, and stayed with my mom for a bit to make sure she ate and didn't need medical help. She got an extra $25.
I can tell you from experience that 80% of the dashers where I live are pretty dumb. I manage a restaurant and most of them do not speak, they just point their phone at you and expect you to read off the name and order from the phone screen, which is not easy with my eyesight. I understand that many of them are English challenged, but they can at least make an effort to pronounce the name of the company they are affiliated with, or even better, the name of their customer. "Hello, I'm picking up a DoorDash order for John." How hard is that?
Lol, yeah! Can relate! Let's face it though, being a DoorDash delivery driver is not a job you have when you're winning at life, is it? :P Most of the Dashers we get are staggeringly dumb as well. They often drive right by the place. Google maps is a thing, you know. My partner uses it, and it never steers him wrong. Why is it so hard for them to use?
