Dümb people think doctors are omniscient and know everything about every branch of medicine, even the ones they didn't specialize in, and dishonest doctors make money out of their ignorance.

It's crazy how many people never learned anything beyond primary school information, which is oversimplified a lot to make it easy enough for little kids to understand, oversimplified to the point it's actually not even correct. Which is fine for little kids, but adults should learn the more complex reality, because there is a huge variety in s*x/gender characteristics, and that's just biology.

even in high school, we're still being taught that males have XY chromosomes and females have XX chromosomes, despite that being a blatantly lacking understanding of biology. it's disappointing.

Sigh....no one is denying that abnormalities exist. Swyer syndrome for instance, which is likely what he's referencing, is when a female, with female genitalia and fully functional reproductive organs, and female hormone levels has a rate of 1 in 80,000....or 0.0000125%, the true prevalence of people with intersex characteristics is roughly 0.018%. However the 1.7% figure being quoted, and spread by a certain type of person today, was originally posited in 2000 by a paper published by Fausto-Sterling. And the majority of the scientific community labeled it as overblown, reiterating the 0.018% metric. The modern take on gender and s*x being different stems from all the way back in the 1960s, it was given little regard until "Trans" shifted into being a political ideology in which a laundry list of behaviors and issues are now being shoved under that single umbrella.

Maybe it's me being old but that someone can have an Y chromosome and still present female isn't even something exotic to know. Even if one hasn't learned it - we do know that not everything in our genes gets expressed. We also know that genes can fail to work properly - lots of medical conditions are based on that. So of course it can work with male / female presentation, too.

wouldn't having the "wrong" chromosomes for your gender be consider some sort of birth defect that began at conception?

ॐBoyGanesh

Not necessarily. The s***m carries the X or Y chromosome and at time of fertilization joins with the X of the egg. That Y chromosome is what allows a specific gene on the Y chromosome called SRY to activate at 6-9 weeks. This allows the hormones to help with male differentiation, thus preparing for the gonadal phase. If there’s any genetic anomaly on this gene on the Y chromosome or any other genetic anomaly on any of the 22 chromosomes OR if the hormones don’t react at the appropriate times or in appropriate levels, there isn’t the precise male differentiation. This can result in any avail combo, usually around or after week 10. Thing is, it’s a LOT more common than many realize.

I think he is referring to folks with an XXY genetic disorder. A rare disorder, but he technically correct. Klienfeller (sp?) syndrome. They are genetically a mess and have all sorts of issues.

No, he referring to people who have XY chromosomes but present as female, just like there are people with XX chromosomes who present as male. Because the chromosomes are just the start of the process that determines exactly what physical attributes someone is born with. There are multiple hormones that have just as much to do with the final appearance of a fetus before birth.

The problem with people who have an MD is that they believe that they are scientists. They are not. An MD is a degree for practice, not research. They are not trained for research. Moreover, the vast majority of MDs do not have any training in genetics beyond an advanced undergraduate course.

Embarrassment is a funny thing; some people would be mortified if they were on the receiving end of these interactions. Others, however, probably wouldn't even flinch even if they were as wrong as the people on this list.

Experts say that, in general, we humans are a pretty easy species to embarrass. True, it's an emotion most of us feel on an almost daily basis. But is there any point to embarrassment? We'd probably not feel it at all if we could, but there is a purpose that being embarrassed serves in our social interactions.

We're social animals; we've lived in groups for as long as we've been around as a species. Embarrassment is nature's way to correct our course when we transgress in a social situation.

"Group living has been important to us for a long time, and even if you don't intentionally want to violate a social norm, you sometimes do. Embarrassment serves the function of immediately and strongly displaying, ‘Oops, I didn't mean to do that,'" psychologist Christine Harris, PhD explains.

Still, many of us hate feeling embarrassed. So much so, that there's apparently even a case of lethal embarrassment. There's a case, published in the British Medical Journal of 1860, of a housemaid reportedly giving up the ghost after getting caught stealing food. However, today doctors think that it was a sudden rush of adrenaline that made her leave this mortal coil, not embarrassment per se.
