Sorry to hear that Maim, it's a hard price to pay for their love.

Unless you’re a dog owner who massively underestimated how much work goes into taking care of a pet and didn’t prepare properly. Then, understandably, you’d end up upset pretty often.
Lovely! We had a biker gang supporting abused women and children by just standing there...
That does happen a lot. They often escort for safety as well. Most people wouldn't expect that from bikers. Technically, the good ones are referred to as clubs and are mostly just guys who like to ride. They do a lot of toy drives and support for seriously ill children.
Load More Replies...I worked as a grant manager for programs that provide victim services. We had a lot of $ to dole out (my portfolio was about $12M), but nothing like this ever came up. Not sure the boss would have approved funding for something like this in the 2000s, but from what I know, a program like this would be immensely helpful for high level trauma victims and especially for child victims. I could see it ending up with victims being able to adopt the dogs. Maybe some time with kitties could be adapted.
Nothing is more supportive than a good dog in court, during tough interviews &/or medical examinations for abused/abandoned kids. It's amazing how much they help just sitting next to the kids, leaning against them. We don't have kitties (yet?), but I'm proud to say Tampa, FL now has 2 "court dogs". And for biker support, search for BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse). They are angels on wheels & leather.

Load More Replies...And it turns out, there are quite a few people like that out there. One study from Forbes Advisor found that nearly three in ten (29%) dog owners in the UK regret their decision to get a dog.
Of those who regret it, nearly a third (32%) say they find caring for a dog too restrictive. Over a quarter (29%) mention the difficulty of going on holidays and having to arrange care. And nearly a quarter (24%) say they simply don’t want to walk their dog every day.

Did you know that many humane societies and shelters allow you to take a few hours of training and then you can take the dogs out for walks or in the playyards n such? It's a great opportunity for those who cannot have dogs to enjoy them, and an even more amazing enrichment opportunity for the dogs.
Many of these are basic aspects of dog ownership, not even counting the financial responsibility or the effort it takes to raise a well-behaved, safe companion.
That includes proper training, which can sound like an intimidating task. So, Bored Panda got in touch with experts in the field to clear up some common myths and offer helpful advice.
My sister bought me a cute little black kitten for Christmas. It died, and was apparently from a mill. This is a little trauma so don't read further. Since it was a holiday, my friend told me to put it in the fridge, for obvious reasons. My sister took the remains back to the chain pet store and yelled at them until they paid her back. Then we went to a local place, and this was the 26th or 27th of December. We look at kitties and the open a cage and one was hanging on the door. I plucked him off and had Neal for 20 years. I affectionately call him my Christmas reject kitty. He knew all of my secrets, never told anyone, and loved me anyway. Edit: This was early 1990s, the window cat was adopted about a year later.
Load More Replies...Pet stores should not sell dogs and cats at all. 8bstates and over 500 counties/cities/towns in the US have passed laws against this. Go to your local shelter and adopt.
I think whst they mean is the stores show the animals from shelter and the "sale" is you paying the adoption fee. The shelters are usually hidden away ( because people say the support shelters but dont want on "" in my backyard") but pet stores are in popular stores areas.
Load More Replies...We got 2 of our cats from Petsmart cuz they had shelter cats for adoption. (And 4 from the Humane Society, 1 from a different rescue group and 6 from CDS...) 😁

Aww.. my second one is the same. She checks on everyone at home, dog or human, when they are unwell. My eldest is not comfortable walking by the edge of the passageway, and the second one will go back to her, talk to her and will bring her along. She lives up to her name: Angel. 😇

Load More Replies...According to dog trainer and behaviorist Ross Macnamara, training your dog doesn’t have to be long or difficult at all.
“Dogs learn best in short bursts. So even something as simple as a couple of 5–10 minute training sessions each day can be the difference between a dog who constantly ignores you and a dog that is happy and motivated,” he explained.
I disagree with Crystal a lot, like a lot, but I don't know why she's getting down voted on this one. My dog is the sweetest mcnugget but she's also a d*****s with zero sense of self preservation. I always joke I could never go to Alaska because her d*****s would square up with a grizzly and I'd die stepping in between them. Pups can be brave and sweet and perfect and also be stupid.
Yes, I saved my dog from a rattlesnake. We were alone in the mountains and the snake got in between us, hissing and rattling. Without thinking I reached over and grabbed a giant rock and brained the snake. It lay there with cross eyes for 5 minutes before slithering off, luckily.

No no no. I love dogs, grew up with border collies and will eventually have dogs again but I can not abide people allowing their dog to jump. Not everyone likes dogs, even if they do they may not want a dog all over them for a myriad of reasons. It’s poor training and poor manners. If you’re playing with a dog that’s another matter but just out in public etc no.
I agree with not allowing your dogs to jump on people in public. But if people come inside my house, they know they're getting jumped on.

But if your dog struggles to follow commands, chances are you might only be practicing them in one place—and haven’t even realized it.
“The most common misconception people have, in my opinion, is that dogs are able to generalize well,” dog trainer Steven O’ Hagan told Bored Panda.
“Just because your dog clearly understands a ‘sit’ command in the kitchen does not mean that this automatically translates to another environment. An important part of training is helping our dogs generalize commands in a multitude of environments to allow them to truly understand the command,” he said.
I’m much more a cat person that a doggy person, but, this fluffball could change me 😍

I wish that the love and joy dogs come by naturally came more easily to humans. It is interesting how they became domesticated and now live so closely with us as friends and companions. They have much to teach us about how to be more humane.

I sent my dog a postcard once. "Mac, stop barking at the postman." Which that one read, of course
You may also want to reconsider which commands you’re using in certain situations. It’s not always as straightforward as it seems.
Macnamara notes that owners overuse the word “stay,” for example.
“They will often use this to keep their dog in a certain position—like saying ‘sit’ or ‘lie down’ followed by ‘staaaay… staaaayyyy… staaaaayyyy.’ This can be a problem because if you forget to say it or get distracted, the dog might break the position early,” he explained.
To avoid this, he simply gives the original command (like “sit”), then makes sure the dog understands they’re meant to stay there until they hear a release word (“break!”).
“This means my dog knows to stay in the position until he hears the word ‘break!’ and I don’t have to repeat ‘stay! stay! stay!’” said Macnamara.
OMG, that is the most adorable thing! Baby Jesus so precious 😍 💖 💙
How will the driver explain being late to the boss? A dog hid in my truck? Sure pal, don't let it happen again.
Dog got a whole day of pampering. Prob only works one time. My dog used to start limping when she saw I was heading for work.
$85 isn't bad. I had to pay $800 to find out our Italian Greyhound was faking a limp the day after my daughter was born. Little bugger was upset we stayed over in the hospital.
Isn't coughing indicative of heartfailure in dogs? In any case, good on you to go to the vet, and holy heck would you look at those doe-eyes in the second picture hahaha
Yes it can be , although dogs do in fact also get a tickle just like we humans do , so it’s not always a cause for panic , unless it’s constant ie daily and after excercise of any kind ,I’ve worked with vets closely when I worked in a rescue center , n had dogs all my 60 yrs , one of our dogs now we rescued 18 mths ago almost direct from idiot owners , a rottie x cane corso , coughs now n then but having had both her and our staffie health checked back in feb yearly one , she’s all good but has a very faint heart murmur they heard so we keep an eye on the cough ,she’s only three yrs old and fine , but yes your very right it can be a sign x
Load More Replies...I couldn’t believe what the vet told me when I took my husky in for a limp. He was totally fine. They had him doing tricks for treats and running laps around the office. What the vet told me? He’s highly manipulative. So when it started being time for me to go to work and I was getting ready… He had already learned that I will stop everything if he’s got an Ouchi. $150 lesson then I’m handing over to you for free… You are welcome. Lol.
My dog had once suffered a broken hip. All better now, but when wanting attention she will limp--just a little.
And just because you have a little pup doesn’t mean they’re too young to train. Giving too much freedom too early in life is one of O’ Hagan’s biggest pet peeves.
“Freedom is earned through a clear understanding of rules and boundaries,” he said.
“It is unlikely your puppy will be in the next room practicing their obedience commands while you cook dinner. It is very important at a young age that we are always monitoring our dogs so they are unable to practice bad behaviors that will eventually become ingrained habits that are hard to break.”
In this case, tools like a crate or a house line can help until your dog is ready for more freedom, once they understand the rules.
If I remember well, he was allowed to "buy" one cookie every day

But he DID pick a green leaf! (If this is in the US, that is…)
Load More Replies...For those curious, that dog breed is called a Puli! Their coat is supposed to look like that and they were traditionally/originally bred as herding/shepherd dogs and livestock guardian dogs.
Yup. Livestock Guardian Dogs usually have very thick, dense coats. Not only for thermal protection when watching the flocks by night up in the cold mountains, but also serves as armor against predator's teeth. (We have a 160 lb Anatolian Shepherd, and it's going to be tough going for any critter that wants to bite his neck and rip his throat out.)

So yes, there’s a lot that goes into raising a well-behaved dog. But does that mean you can’t do it yourself?
Macnamara believes you can, especially if you’ve done your research on the breed and know how to keep your dog happy.
“However, if they’re looking to get the best possible relationship with their dog, then they will always find value in seeking out an experienced trainer,” he added.
“It’s always a good idea to reach out for help with a professional if you’re seeing behavior issues with your dog, but sometimes prevention is the best medicine. Working with a professional means they can show you exactly what your dog needs and how to give them the best life possible,” he said.
We know baby we know xx ❤️I do this to my two all the time they love huggles
Just Look at Humans. This wild insane grinning appearing on their faces ist because they met you and you gave them a mental push to a good mood.
my dog wanted my hand or feet on him, always. Or his head on my leg, or... I miss him
Tito's expression almost looks like "Joke's on you, I can walk perfectly fine, but who in their right mind would give up a sweet deal like this?" XD
I always carry dog treats in my cars (yeah! I said cars!) For my personal bodyguard and...well, I would give that beautiful girl the whole bag of treats as a little present for her b-day! 😊
O’ Hagan agrees that consulting a professional is often the best route, but choosing the right one matters.
“Make sure you select a trainer with proven results, or one who specializes in the area of behavior you’re struggling with,” he said.
“There is a lot of good information online. However, I often find there is also a lot of bad information that can easily lead to your problems becoming much worse.”

Im sure many people did a 180 of what they think about shelter animals, but I hope some of them did go to another home because a quick need for a home like this is not how dogs should find their forever home.
Load More Replies...What a wonderful idea! There are probably plenty of people who think having a dog for years is too big a commitment that they can't fulfill, but feel capable of caring for a dog for just a couple of days/weeks. It's a win-win-win-win situation: the shelter volunteers will be less overworked than if they'd have to do everything themselves, the people are gonna enjoy having a dog for a couple of days, the dogs are gonna enjoy getting lots of individual attention for a couple of days, and people may end up getting attached to the dog and keeping it.
Thanks for getting this. I would love to have a dog. Unfortunstely I cannot commit to a dog. I do have a cat but she is more self sufficient ( if i am stuck in bed she can use litter box and i can put a whole bowl food down and she wont eat it all at once ).

Load More Replies...The Dutch word for seal is ZEEHOND. Sea-dog. Literally, look it up :D
Yep! I want a land seal but we need to give our new Pomeranian another couple of weeks .
Fair enough. They are surprisingly aggressive in contrast to their size. They are pretty much big dogs in small bodies, but they are also loving and sweet to their family. My family's chihuahuas love cuddling and petting. They are also pretty smart.
No no, this is how I explain it. So every dog (or person) gets the same amount of anger. But the shorter/smaller the dog (or person) the more concentrated and compact the anger is. So when their anger reaches it's boiling point it easily bubbles over because there is no extra space. It just overflows.
Load More Replies...My little Chihuahua is cool with small dogs, but if he sees a big dog on our walks he turns into an aggressive little monster.
A lot of chihuahua owners unintentionally send the message to their dogs that danger is everywhere, which doesn't help the dogs to stay calm. You can watch out for your tiny dog's safety without scooping them up constantly or being overprotective, if you want your dog to feel comfortable in the world.
I'd say that is excused tardiness and will sign a note to that effect!
I bought my partner a T-shirt which says: “Sorry I’m late, I saw a dog.”
Can't that dog walk by itself? He would probably enjoy that much more.
Honestly, you could be late as a train conductor and I'd still take this excuse. Absolutely PRIMO priorities, young lady!
Local wildlife park has a long paddock for Cheetahs. You can meet the cubs and females who are chill. The keepers said it's the only paddock that has zero rabbits in it...
San Diego zoo allows the cheetah to play with his dog friend. They chase each other around and it is pretty damm cute.
Literally everything they share their natural habitat with, can fold them almost without trying. I think a little nervousness is appropriate in that life.
My local zoo's dog/cheetah pair just celebrated their 10th birthdays
My cat gets in trouble when he is misbehaving and goes after my one dog. And only that dog. He won't go after the other one. He must think it's the dog's fault he is in trouble and not that he is a bad cat.
Luky them! Whenever I try to take a picture of my dog, she starts licking her butt!
You can just tell that Baxter’s family are ALWAYS taking picture of the precious boy can’t you lol
Dogs and cats are what probably keeps us humans just civil enough to not be in cages....
Yes it is. My dogs bring me toys when I am upset. It completely changes the mood. Who can cry when a six month old pup drops a chew toy in your lap!

Wait is pupper's spine going to be alright? I really don't think this is safe.
Obviously it's not the real mayor, the title is "ceremonial mayor". The whole thing has no political weight, it was born as a fundraiser for the community since voting for any candidate would cost one dollar per vote, and the vote was cast at the local dive bar. This one was their first "elected" dog, Duke. He died in 2019 and was replaced by another dog that won an election against two other dogs and a Youtuber...
I vote we make the dog the real mayor and end corruption in politics.

Load More Replies...Pretty cool too. They had to train the dogs to sit still for the MRI scan, because they will wiggle and startle at the sounds, so you can’t get a good image.
I can’t do that and it isn’t the noise that’s a problem.
Load More Replies...Yes, I saw a documentary about this. They were comparing brain activity when the dogs saw their owners pop into view vs. being presented with food. No surprise: all of the dogs were equally as stimulated by their people as food but many dogs were much more stimulated by their people.
❤️family they are 100% and should be treated as such ! No being made to sleep on a floor , u dint make your kids do that do you , no they sleep in beds ! Like my dogs do the staffie with my 24 yr old daughter n the rottie x cane corso on mine , the sofa is theirs to exactly as it should be !

Load More Replies...You can't speak to each other, but you still understand each other. When the cat wanders in and meows at us, my partner says "What does he want?" yet it's clear to me from the way he's moving what he wants! Either his dry food bowl topping up, his wet food bowl topping up, or to be let outside.
And that is an actual scientific fact: Dogs for example look in directions we point at and can understand several words and hand signs which other, less domesticated animals won't do. Was a really interesting article to read
Load More Replies...I have regular conversations with my cats, admittedly it's mostly me telling them that it's not tummy time yet!
Yeah!! if my kids bugged me as many times a day as my cats come around I'd be a screaming me-me!!! yelling at them...but the cats...nope, I just stand up ask them what they need and follow them to nowhere.....
I speak to my cat. She definitely understands treats and do you want to go out? I have to understand her jumping on the chair and staring at me as “ I just pooped in my tray. If you don’t want to break out the gas masks clear it out now.”
why the "prison chamber" in the middle of the room ? Rhetorical question, there is NO good answer to it.
Most large breed dogs like having a crate or cave to retreat to if they feel uncomfortable and sometimes you need to kennel a dog for it's own safety. As long as it's not in there constantly it's beneficial
Load More Replies...There's more swearing in that conversation, at least from the cat

🤣 I cannot count how many times I've said this to my own dog! He lunges at people whilst we're walking, and they're taken back (he's a Standard Poodle, so sort of big), so I keep him on a short leash whenever I 8see someone approaching, but almost always he just wants to say hi!
Yes, I spoke to mine in both languages. Non dog owner don't get it. Why would I speak in dog language? Or whale whining?
I have custom patches for both Fenring and Stilgar's harnesses that say "PLEASE pet me, I am friendly" and "Yes, you CAN pet me!" XD I know many people respect working/service dogs and both my dogs wear "working dog" harnesses, but I always want to let people know that my dogs are both just attention-sponge divas and everyone has permission to pet them XD

Respectfully, you are full of sh!t. Yes, some breeds, notably toy breeds, should not be left outside 24/7. But some breeds, such as livestock guardian dogs, were BRED to live outdoors and can actually become physically and mentally unhealthy if kept indoors/as "inside dogs". Forcing a livestock guardian dog to live indoors can cause them suffering. Plus, how do you know that Kimba ISN'T a primarily-indoors dog and this is just his shelter for when his family lets him outside? My dog Stilgar has a shelter/"doghouse" built from a modified table in the backyard, but I don't leave him outside 24/7. But he DOES get to go outside. Shouldn't a "farm lass" like you understand the value and importance of enrichment in a dog's life?

Cats will do the same thing. My cat is beside me in my office chair wanting me to pet her. Kinda hard to type like this little girl. She's a 13.5 yo Himalayan that weighs 6 lbs.
Hopefully they will npt walk on the keyboard, or try to nap on it! Cat people know of what I speak.

An older couple walking a golden retriever who was carrying a rubber chicken in its mouth passed by me today. I couldn't help but smile and tell them their dog was adorable.
I've recently started smiling at the owners too after smiling at the dog - just feels more polite.

No one should be a parent unless you are absolutely excited over the prospect, that goes for humans or dogs. Too many women with kids should have chosen not to be mothers.
'should have been allowed to chose not to be mothers', right?

Once had a dog when I was a kid, she got off her lead and legged it while we were taking her for a walk as she got spooked by another dog. Me and my mum spent over an hour looking for her, and when we got back home, we found her sat on the doorstep waiting for us lol

Load More Replies...Yep, both dogs and all the cats get their waterbowls filled from my Brita pitcher XD However, the dogs' waterbowls that are outside are filled with hose water, because I am Gen X and I feel that they ought to have the experience of drinking straight from the hose just like I did in my childhood. XD
I know it's weird but somehow I sometimes miss the taste of hosepipe water. I also miss bending it and spraying it straight into whoever's face was dumb enough to look into it.
Load More Replies...There is inside water and outside water. The inside water is replaced every morning and has to be fresh, the outside water can be a puddle, a flower pot with water in it, a river... or the suspicious bowl which ist a breedings place for new life forms.
Yogi ignores his water bowl and drinks from the overflow puddles from our spring.
Load More Replies...I've tried that, but my dogs and cats always go for the tap water so that's what they get now. Luckily we're in a place with safe tap water.
I once had a devout Baptist tell me dogs do not go to heaven because they do not have a soul. I told him that if there are no dogs in heaven I do not want to go there. I mean, who would? Heaven sounds boring.
Load More Replies...It's been 5 years since my 9lb weakling let me have more than the front third of the chair.
My dog Stilgar LOVES the beach! XD (He actually does, even though he looks traumatized in this photo, lol.) beachdoge-...5cc21e.jpg

Always I’m always at home with my dogs ! Older n housebound now , it’s only once in a blue moon I go out ie doctors or hospital, so they are never alone x
My doggies always come first, what better way to spend a Friday night relaxing on the sofa watching a cosy mystery murder series with them curled up on my lap sharing snacks
As opposed to being crushed in a crowd of people (yuck) who are sloppy drunk and rowdy and have no manners, plus there’s a good chance one of them will drink too much and projectile vomit over the crowd (triple dog yuck), in a club where they play the music at earsplitting decibel levels, no one really has the space to dance, they charge way too much for a small drink, some a*****e is bound to start a fight, and when you get home you need to take a shower and wash the clothes you wore to get rid of that stench of drunken vomiting drink-spilling humanity (and maybe a bit of blood that spattered on you when you passed the a******s who were fighting as you were trying to leave)? Yeah, a nice peaceful night in with my pets (OK, and my husband too, if he’s a good boy) sounds like heaven in comparison.
Load More Replies...Who would want to party with friends when your BEST friend is your dog? XD
he always had a nice evening at home planned. Like shielding the heat of the fireplace away from us. I swear it didn't get dark like during a during a solar eclipse, but equally cold
I... I'm sorry... I'm trying to picture a "giant" Yorkie.... what do they weigh, 10 lbs? XD
Load More Replies...You get unconditional love from your dog all year and as payment, you get to have her live with you
and then try a rescue dog! They know they got a second chance. Priceless!
Load More Replies...Mine do too XD They both love it though, as I've made costumes/clothing always a positive experience for them and they only have to wear them briefly while I get a few cute photos. Stilgar (on the left) has one exception - he LOVES to wear his dog baseball cap and refuses to go on a walk without one XD He learned that people fuss over him when he's wearing it (as he's ridiculously cute with it on) and so now he WANTS it on just in case we meet someone on our walks XD stilgar_an...934d6a.jpg
My parents' dog got two hour long walks a day - they lived in a rural area - good food and lots of love, and still ate the bathroom when they went out. It wasn't because she was badly treated, she was a working breed (Australian Kelpie) and just needed real work. She eventually went back to the farm where she was bred and was much happier..
Load More Replies...We had a rescue who had obviously spent his early years locked in a single room. We couldn't close a door without him panicking, and trying to eat his way through.
My male did that to a bedroom door but not as bad as this. Mr hates being confined, I swear he's claustrophobic and had separation anxiety.
We had an Irish Setter and she was in the hall with the door closed while we were just going to the grocery store. She didn't destroy the door, but ate a hole through the wall.
Lol During Covid lockdowns I'd keep track of how many dogs I saw during my walks. The record stands at 17.
Ok, I realised I was upvoting everything so stopped. I also veered between crying and laughing. Need moar doge.
I'll happily take this over s**t about the Kardashi-slàgs every. single. time. Take note, BP.
Yay! Doggies! Though title is tragic, "...Show Why We Trust Dogs More Than People".
I was at an art show recently and while I was buying a piece, this woman walks in with the cutest little dog. My husband had to take over buying the item because I was too busy letting the dog lick me and petting it!
As an official cat lady, I fully endorse this post. However; my cats were totally against it. 🤣
