Have you ever found out that something you’ve believed your entire life was a bald-faced lie? I know I have. Not even once, either!

Stuff like that kinda shakes you. From there, you’ve got two options, really. The first is to accept it and move on with your life, a tiny bit wiser. The other is to deny it, building a shield of bias and comfort around you.

You’d be surprised how many people choose the latter. Keep reading to find out more about these hard-to-accept facts that many would rather ignore.

What's sad to me is that it is clear many people who claim to be Christians have never actually read and thought about the teachings in the Gospels. Yes, we are all flawed human beings. I am deeply flawed. But if you don't try care about each and every person as they are, where they are, and express that in your actions, I am not sure you know God at all. Saving (and judging) the world is God's job. Treating each other with kindness, respect, and love is ours.

That's because biological women are rarely part of any medical studies. The vast majority of medical testing is done on males. The reason for that is pregnancy. The risk of being pregnant is a high risk for additional damage. Do they get left out. Sometimes even in studies that concern majorly biological women. The pain threshold and reaction to medication is hugely different between biological males and biological females. They have different bone density and different metabolism. That's why often the doses of medications are too small for women. The studies are made with men, the dosage was tested on men, but a biological male of the same weight and height than a woman has a smaller percentage of fat in the body (to just name one of the many factors that impact the function of medicine) and thus for need less medication to treat their issues. So then the women get the dosage that would work for a boy, but is useless for them. But when a man comes, they get what they need.

Also, how you're treated by your parents. My sister had unconditional love and was never psychologically, emotionally, or sexually abused. Never gaslighted, always believed (even when she lied), and always always supported. I was sexually abused, constantly told I wasn't good enough and would never amount to anything, told I was miserable, and told I was too sensitive, among so many other things. The fact that I haven't offed myself is because I have extraordinary friends and a brother who has always had my back. And I have pets. How you're raised 100% impacts your level of success.

Autism diagnoses. Myself and lots of autistic people I know are often told by people who seem to base their entire knowledge of autism off the movie Rain Man are like "but you don't seem autistic."

Research on autism has changed a lot since the 80s but public perception has changed very little.

Research has changed a lot even in the last 7 years because autistic people are connecting online and sharing feedback to conclusions of studies or disputing earlier assumptions made by people in the field. There's also many ASD people becoming involved in research themselves. I think some of the fascinating things I've seen lately is the challenge to the idea that autistic people lack empathy. Many of them are hyper empathetic. Or the challenge to the idea that autism is fundamentally about social deficits, when it's really more of a difference between how autistic people and neurotypical people socialize. And despite the Sheldon Cooper stereotype, many many people who have what used to be called Aspergers are wickedly funny and have a fantastic sense of humor. Also anecdotally the majority of people I've met irl or online who have ASD are not A-holes. That's not a default trait.

Isn't this serendipity - I'm a 39F with adhd diagnosis at 19. My counselor & close friend hinted that perhaps I want to research females with ASD. Yes, just like you said I thought 'Rain Man?' I began looking into it 48 hrs ago & I'm no doctor, but I certainly wish someone would have suggested it before I was 39! Bc this is most certainly me & I'm a business owner & lawyer. Did something similar with ADHD recently. Just as I felt pretty sure about my own situation and was ready to seek professional help my revealed I was diagnosed in the 1970s... Thanks for sharing that with me.... Anyhow better to know. Wish I knew 45+ years ago so I can could have sought creative solutions beyond "try harder". Meanwhile I see symptoms in one parent and their siblings/parents' histories but they are long dead. Those people self-medicated for most of my childhood so excessively it defined their adult lives.

The biggest difference is how autism and ADHD present in females compared to how they present in males. As a woman who has birth ADHD and ASD, I also have a real problem with the word "disorder" because it comes across as something undesirable, something that needs to be changed or fixed. When I got my diagnoses at different times in my life, it was amazing the change it made to me because I could finally understand everything that led me up to this point in my life.

I am not autistic but I am really glad people are feeling more comfortable telling others of their conditions. My primary mode of communication is sarcasm. During a benign miscommunication, a girl at my gym told me that due to her autism, she doesn't pick up on sarcasm. Now I know how to properly communicate with her. Now I wonder how many people I have inadvertently confused, pissed off or made feel bad because I didn't understand how to properly communicate with them.

The general population thinks that "people on the spectrum" are incapable of self care, using judgement and being self determining. Like we should all be in institutions or group homes instead of out "among them". I've heard theses geniuses say that autism can be "caught", like an infection.

Exactly the reverse. In the generation before mine it was epilepsy - 50% of the population was diagnosed (often self-diagnosed) with epilepsy, wrongly. In my generation it was neurosis - 50% of the population was diagnosed with neurosis, wrongly. In this generation it is autism - 50% of the population is diagnosed with autism, wrongly. Read the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders. There are correct diagnostic procedures for autism in there. I really don't know why humans are such hypochondriacs, but we are.

Members Of This Online Group Are Annoyed People Won’t Accept These 35 Facts That Are 100% True Being 35-50 wasn’t considered “elderly” back in the day.

It was common for people to live into their 70s and 80s. The reason we get “average lifespan” data with such low numbers is because so many babies died, skewing the average values downward.

Members Of This Online Group Are Annoyed People Won’t Accept These 35 Facts That Are 100% True That most people would do some pretty awful things for money if presented the opportunity. People would like to believe that they have strong morals but if presented with a button that would kill 10 random people in the world in exchange for 1 million dollars, many would press it. I would guess at least half of the population would. And many would press it multiple times. But not many people would actually admit that they would press it if given the opportunity to. Maybe I am just too cynical and not many would press it, but this hypothetical situation is something I think about a lot.

Of course I would press a button for a million dollars regardless of 10 people randomly dying as a consequence. We have a lot of people, they are dying randomly at high rates on their own as I'm typing this and nobody's paying me anything. This is a morality question that gets trotted out and is completely meaningless.
