Yes, because he's probably a WW veteran, and at the time this art was popular, so were many men. Also, I think that's a shout-out to King of the Hill, which includes an overly-proud, out-of-touch old veteran keeps bragging about this very thing, and is seen as ridiculous. Cotton Hill, the boorish father of the main character Hank Hill, brags about his exploits in WW2 by saying he "killed fitty men". The veracity of the claim is somewhat questionable, but he was a war hero who got his legs blown off at the knees. He walks around on his stumps. The meme is quoting him. It makes sense if you're familiar with the show.

I don’t think that’s true at all. Men coming home from WW1 famously never talked about what they saw or did, families commonly never knew the details of their war. Even recently Prince Harry was criticised for saying how many people he had killed during his time in the army. Most soldiers understood that the men they faced were sharing the same lives and would rather not be fighting either. In short most people fighting had the compassion and understanding that you lack

Oh for Pete’s sake. It is okay to be a stay at home mom, we should not find this concept horrible. I am very grateful I was able to walk away from my exec job to take care of my autistic daughter who flourishes being homeschooled and was languishing in public school. I do own my own small business now, but am still able to be home much of the day. I like my role as a traditional wife and mom. I have far less anxiety now, I lost 50 pounds because I have time to exercise and make wholesome meals. I am a happier person all the way around. It’s what I want. I am mixed race, by the way, so my sole reason was my family, not some misguided notion I support segregation. If women want to work, I think that is great, too. Or if they have to work, I get it. No shame at all. I shouldn’t be shamed either.

Interestingly, some studies in Africa did show circumcision to have a protective factor against HIV (I have no idea what controls were taken for other variables, though, so I don’t consider these studies to be support for universal circumcision, just an interesting bit of trivia)

Aside from the obvious unethical implications, the "african studies" are not an "interesting piece of research". Circumcision proponents often refer to those studies without actually checking how those were conducted. A brief example: - The sample was laughably small - The time period was too short and post op healing was not taken into account - The circumcised group got s3x ed and condoms, the "control group" wasn't even given an explanation

I remember that study, too; I think the article I read was a discussion of whether it's ethical to promote a public health measure by suggesting other reasons to do it than the actual health effects, because one African country that was struggling with HIV (can't remember which one) was trying to get men to do it with a PR campaign telling them it would make them look cleaner and more attractive to women. No idea how it turned out.

No problem; gravity is apparently curving the light down to the boat? Except they 'think' that gravity doesn't exist. Er, um, so what keeps us on the surface of the earth then? Oh yes, acceleration. Acceleration equivalent to what WE say is gravity, is 10 metres/second squared. So if 'gravity' started just ONE YEAR ago, we would now be hurtling through the universe at 315,360 kilometres per second, and adding an extra 10 metres PER SECOND to that. Even if the earth were *only* 6000 years old, as claimed by young earth creationists, we would be travelling at over 2 billion km/sec by now, let alone having left the solar system which is supposed to revolve around us. (NB: the speed of light is only 300,000 km/sec.) Yet they argue that we cannot feel the rotation of the earth, which is 1600 kilometres per hour at the equator. True, because you only *feel* acceleration, not constant speed. Also, why is EVERY star, planet, moon, etc ROUND? Why would earth be THE exception?

Grammar and spelling correction could potentially be all those things. However I would argue that context does matter in making that judgement. English teachers in America, at least when I grew up, do tend to teach grammar in a prescriptive manner, ie it should be said and written this way. There’s pros and cons to that. I can appreciate that anyone who doesn’t naturally share the “proper” way of communicating wouldn’t enjoy getting told they’re doing it wrong. I personally prefer the linguists view of dialects, descriptive with no judgements.

I would agree with Macron only in the sense that the police murder of this child was a spark that set off what was already an extremely tense political and social environment in France. There's a lot of s**t going wrong in France. Is parenting playing a role? I dunno, I guess possibly. Video games? No. The biggest driver of the tension seems to be Macron's own government and their crappy management. Which is frustrating, because the far-right are gaining so much traction in France that if Macron keeps stuffing up they'll end up in power next election, and there'll be another European power falling to ultra-conservative nutbags.

Rioters shoot rockets at the wife and children of one of the mayors when they try to escape their home that the rioters were attacking. Everyone involved sucks here except the wife and kids.

Hold up one moment. God, I can't believe I'm defending this because I HATE false claims of racism. But she's only expressing a FEELING that she can't explain. And I'm going to possibly explain it. I can actually see how all that iron equipment in a very Victorian looking room reminds someone vaguely of the slave trade. Does that mean that person is at all racist, or should avoid that sort of decor because someone else might get a strange racist vibe? Of course not. And that's an important consideration: just because something makes you think of racism doesn't make it inherently racist.

I'll try to explain: the decor may be associated with European upper class; the art model in one of the photos appears to be white. The decor could also be viewed as classist and sexist. I work in the trades, where we put these signs up, and have been begging for all the help I can get - plenty of good/great paying jobs, yet all my applicants are men... How does one in my position "put women in charge", should I randomly grab one from a cozy indoor job and say "You're now in charge of all these grizzled experienced men who've paid their dues and did the bone-grinding muscle-tearing work to provide the infrastructure for your throne of entitlement"? While some people indeed choose not to circumcize, and many do it with a surgeon rather than a religious circumciser – the overwhelming majority of Jewish people still do it. I've been a full-time carer for my husband for 30+ years. Had to give up a much-loved job, lost a lot of friends, financial problems, bla bla bla. In my long years I've met people who stood by their loved one, period. I've met people whose attitude was "Hell no, I didn't sign up for this, I'm out". I've met people who were mentally driven into the ground by the self-obsessed, egocentric and self-pitying attitude of the sick person and I've met people who tried, tried hard, found they were spiralling into depression and had to step back in order to simply hold on to their sanity and life. Please, when confronted with a story with a heading like this, keep an open mind and ponder whether you're required to set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm and have mercy.

Married 40+ yrs, caretaker for 20 of them (stroke), Now Hospice at home. There is a HUGE difference between taking a step back, and walking away. Honestly I am really close to my breaking point ( will I survive this?), BUT I put myself in his shoes and he needs the reassurance and love that I can show ( he is scared and needs to be NOT abandoned). I recently lost every support system I had in place. But as he gets sicker I have to get stronger ( it is part of the commitment I made to him, and to myself.)

If I had to guess, this article is about how common it is for a very specific group of extremely right leaning folks to not let anything "unnatural" near their kid (ie, plastic toys, baby formula, vaccines, etc). If it's anything like the farming/homesteading, it IS irritating. The mother stated she gave up her seat for her son because he wanted to solve a Rubik's cube at that depth and enter the Guinness Book of World Records. Regardless of how much money someone has, laughing about another person's horrific death is trash. One of the men was 19 and whether he chose to be there or he didn't, his life has been cut short before he got to live and his family will be haunted by that. No amount of money in the world would make up for the loss of my son. I'm sure his mother would gladly swap all the money, houses, cars, designer clothes etc for her son back.

Hmm, they might have a little bit of a point. Obviously there are bicyclists who drive dangerously, and there are good points to be made. But there are also quite some people whose opinion seems to be "how dare bicyclists ride here on MY road, that belongs to me as a car driver, and inconvenience me. When you could just as well say: "these are OUR SHARED roads, that belongs to both car drivers and bicyclists, and we as car drivers inconvenience them just as much as they inconvenience us".

I have no objection to cyclist being on the road when there isn't a bycycle path it's incovenient with the narrow roads we have in britain but not impossible. But as a responce to your "OUR SHARED roads" in the uk there is a car/motorcycle tax for upkeep of the roads, there is no bicycle tax.

Unless the UK is very different than the US the roads, aren't funded exclusively through taxes paid only as a result of operating a car. It's also takes a fair amount of stupid to think the upkeep required as a result of bicycles is even remotely comparable to the upkeep required as a result of cars.

You pay a tax on your vehicle in proportion to the emissions. Electric vehicles are exempt. Where I live there are no dedicated cycle parts and very few shared paths, so many people cycle on the pavements (especially kids) or don’t cycle at all. As someone who generally cycled and rarely drives my taxes still fund roads. How are you going to read cycles? Is my son going to give up his pocket money?

Yes... After I wouldn't let them squeeze by me during oncoming traffic they obviously felt emasculated and thus had to force me to stop by cutting me off slowly and laughing at me. ... Another guy drove way too close on an otherwise broad empty road to us, then briefly stopped to aggressively point at the pedestrian sidewalk and speed off. That one especially stayed in mind because A. I was still a young teen at the time and having a car pass you by from behind close enough that you could touch it is terrifying and B. The bicycle path had explicitly been led down onto the road previously... Those cases stayed especially in mind because they were not just a combination of impatience and dangerous thoughtlessness, but active maliciousness.

It diminishes the times real racism occurs, it dilutes the problem and moreover, it makes it appear as if nothing will resolve or improve. It isn’t helping. Calling out racists (real ones) loudly and letting them wear a cone of shame is necessary. Finding racism in every corner is counter productive.

They don't call hate of bicyclists racist. And they are also not saying that it is the same. They are saying that it is coming from the same place: Having to share your space (your "privilege") with people you see as less than yourself or simply as different, and thus they don't have any rights to what you think is exclusively yours. Using infrastructure and your safety being regarded by fellow infrastructure users in this case. Calling someone out for getting too close to a bicyclists (with a car) is important for improving traffic safety for everyone (not just the people in metal boxes), but won't do anything for or against racism, because it obviously isn't race related prejudice. But it IS a lack of regard for a fellow human being based on the fact that they are using a smaller, more vulnerable vehicle.

I wish car drivers would give bicyclists more room given the danger, not to mention how frightening it is to be crowded by a car when you're on a bike. I wish bicyclists would break the rules of the road only when it doesn't impact the rights of a car driver, even if it means more leg work. I'm never upset about a bicyclist breaking rules when it doesn't impact others, but it is annoying when it does, since the same rights come the same responsibilities.

Seems all these labels dehumanise us. An example close to me is that people would call me "disabled", even debate what the most appropriate label to give me. Hey, why not just use my name?

It sounds like nonsense at first, but this is actually not a bad idea. Because currently, if you want to refer to people who love women, there's a whole list: heterosexual men, lesbian women, nonbinary/agender people who love women, certain intersex people who love women. It can be convenient to have 1 word for all of them. It also eliminates the confusion when you're talking about transgender people: if you're talking about a transgender man way before his transition or even before he realized his identity and you say he was straight, do you mean this person liked men or women back then? A lot of people get confused about that. Also, words like straight and gay/lesbian don't really work for people who don't fit into the category men or women: what is the 'opposite sex' if you're not on one of the opposite sides yourself, like nonbinary, agender, certain intersex people like people with true hermaphroditism, etc.?

Also, it takes away the discussion about transgender people: if you say you're attracted to women, there's disagreement about whether that includes transwomen or not. If I understand correctly, the term gynosexual means attracted to people who appear feminine, regardless of all the technical details. Which makes more sense to me: most of us are attracted to what someone looks like, right? I think attraction is based more on whether someone looks like a woman, and not so much on whether someone is biologically a woman, identifies as a woman, is legally a woman, etc.

Will she make that same face at child protection when they show up after her baby's umbilical cord blood tests positive for drugs? Not "oiud", but here's what happened to me..... I was admitted 2.5 weeks before my due date due to sudden high blood pressure and really really bad headache (thankfully was not preeclampsia). My son was born 2 days later and we were discharged 2 days after that. About 2 weeks after we got home, DCF knocks on my door saying his umbilical cord blood tested positive for something I can't even remember the name of. After weeks of getting records from OB/GYN, hospital triage, labor & delivery, etc. they finally found it was a medication given to me when I was admitted for the headache/high blood pressure that was incorrectly recorded in my chart. They said it commonly shows up in drug tests, but the hospital literally reported me to DCF because of their own mistake. I spent months with hospital admin because they were afraid I was going to sue them over the whole ordeal. And now there will always be a record of this investigation through someone else's mistake. It was terrifying knowing I had done zero drugs, having the state investigating me, doing home inspections, scrutinizing how I cared for my newborn, everything about my life. I can't imagine being so cavalier about "oiud" during pregnancy and my child's life.

The goal (in being part of the life of a child) is not whether YOU can "make it through the day." It's not about you at all! Are you truly caring for the child: with a safe, healthy environment? The opportunity to learn in both structured and relaxed manners? Can the child play/learn with others around? How are emotions processed? I could go on, and we haven't even talked about safety! Your high is not worth a kid's life, whether it's by a horrible accident or by long-term neglect. A kid doesn't need an adult, caring for him, to be stoned. He needs an adult who's invested in him. So do that.

While I agree with MAID in circumstances of terminal illness, homelessness is NOT terminal, and HAS a cure - give them a home. Even saying they should be able to choose to die because their life is so miserable they want to check out is cold, selfish, and downright evil. Giving them a home would solve half their problems and improve their lives 100% - they shouldn't be told "choose to die because we are too selfish to house you".

I personally believe assisted suicide should be considered as a form of medical care. If your life has been designed as terminal because of a medical problem, you should have the right to choose how you die. Not sure I agree with the poverty angle unless that person has been medically diagnosed as terminal. Just being poor and/or homeless is NOT a good reason! How about lifting them out of poverty, giving them a real chance to live!?!

Really bad idea. The procedure itself can be reversed, but the chances of actually getting someone pregnant afterwards are only around 50%. It depends on how long ago the vasectomy was: if it was less than 3 years ago the chance is 76%, if it's over 15 years the chance is only 30%. The success rate for the reversal procedure and the success rate for getting someone pregnant, are two completely different things. Many people are unaware of this, and think that the high success rate for the procedure itself (86%, ranging from 97% if less than 3 years ago to 71% if more than 15 years ago), mean there is a high success rate for impregnation, but that is not what that number means. You should not have a vasectomy if you're unsure whether you might want kids someday. Also, about 5% of men will get chronic pain in their testicles. If you give all boys a mandatory vasectomy, imagine how many boys will have chronic pain that they didn't choose to have and how many can never have kids...

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that vasectomies exist. My boyfriend and I decided my boyfriend would get one, and I am super happy that we did that, it was a great choice for us! But there is a lot of misinformation online, people always perpetuate nonsense about it being completely reversible. When we started looking into vasectomy as an option for us, I was really surprised when I looked at actual information from hospitals and scientific research, that it is soooo much less reversible than what people make it out to be.

actually these were orca's over a thousand miles from their normal swimming waters attacking boats. Now we know it a pod with pregnant females, and that is why they were agressive. So long as you understand that it's your own preference, and accept that if you prefer a specific narrow range of skin tones, it's likely because of some racial bias. However, most people have some sort of racial bias, and it's just something that we need to accept and acknowledge and figure out how to make sure it does not have a negative effect on others. Only dating people of a specific set of skin tones is not something that has a negative effect on other people. Just make sure that you do not impose this preference on other people, and that it doe snot affect your othe rinteractions.

I'm gonna preface this by saying I would never *refuse* to date someone because of their ethnicity. But I do have a preference towards certain facial features that are found more predominantly in white/Middle Eastern/Indian people. I will naturally find those people more attractive over people who don't have those features. And imo if you don't find someone physically attractive, it's OK (and probably preferable) not to date them.

Not only was she of European origin, and a descendant of the Greek colonizers of Egypt, but Egyptians are genetically Middle Eastern. They have actually sequenced DNA from mummies and other ancient Egyptians, and they were Middle Eastern, not sub-Saharan African, at least those from Lower Egypt. There was some Sub-Saharan admixture in Upper Egypt, and the Nubians as well as the Ethiopians/Sudanese are a Middle Eastern + Sub-Saharan mixture.

Not sure if this has been followed up on, but some years ago I read that there was some evidence Arsinoe was of mixed Greek-African descent. I figured her sister Cleopatra was as well. It makes sense that the Ptolemies would secure their hold by making marital alliances with the existing Egyptian aristocracy, which would largely be Upper Egyptian and therefore have African heritage.

The thing that people forget is that areas in ancient times did not necessarily consist of the same racial make up of those in the modern ages. Africans traveled the globe and reproduced very very frequently in European and other areas. So, the appearance of ancient Greeks may not be what you see when you look at modern Greeks.

The Greeks who colonized Egypt were freshly out of Greece, and had no African admixture. You are confusing the very diverse Roman Empire with the very Greek Ptolemies. Sub-Saharan Africans did not travel much down the Nile or upr the Red Sea. Only the extensive trade routes of Roman Empire brought a large number of Africans into the Mediterranean basin.

I really enjoyed Captain Marvel looking forward to the second one, hope they make a Black Widow 2 with Florence Pugh and they can make another dozen movies with someone as complex as the Scarlett Witch. I watched Tatiana Maslany in Ophan Black so was really looking forward to She Hulk. It was bad, this wasn't a female character to look up to, this was a straight up horrible person. Honestly, the only thing that changed for me was wearing a mask nearly everywhere I went. Otherwise, I'm such a huge introvert that life went on pretty much as usual. (Then again, where I live (Switzerland), there wasn't a true "lockdown", where you HAD to stay at home. It was more of a "shutdown" where other places were closed.)

Interesting. Where I live, 30 Celsius would be an extremely hot day, so we have air conditioning on when it’s over 20 Celsius. But, we only have an AC unit downstairs, and only use it during about 4-5 months out of the year. It also does tend to be incredibly humid here in summer—we rarely get hot days with no humidity. So I think it really just depends on where you live.

Thing is. If it's 30°C during the day, it's significantly colder at night, or even just in the evening. And you can in fact keep your bedroom window open at night (or just for a shorter time before going to bed) to cool down the room for a good night's sleep.

I live in the southeast in the U.S. In the summer it can be 86° at 6am, with 60% or higher humidity. My ac is on until October or November. I have no choice. It sucks, but I can't handle cold winters and cannot afford to be a snowbird.

If I'm right, that's approximately 90F. Here in south Texas, we get that as early as end of April/beginning of May. It's accompanied by 90 to 100% humidity, making it feel 10 to 15 degrees hotter. People DIE from this without AC every year. AC is necessary in many places. And if it is that hot that early in the year, the rest of summer will be worse, as it is right now. Today it was 98, but felt like 113 according to the experts. Imagine that with no AC!

This sounds like the grid itself is the problem. Our summers are getting worse. The grids need to be improved. Most places are using the same tech from 50 years ago or more. The casing around thick cables in my area melts in the sun now and they have to shut off all public transportation. Many pets cannot be in conditions over 75 as well. Not every individual can tolerate heat.

If you have decently insulated houses you can in fact, just open the window. The trick is to do that at night when it's colder and not 30°C. Then you close the window in the morning and keep the shades at least partially down so the house doesn't warm up again (quickly).

Here - 90 degree's (or 30ish Celsius) 60% humidity, no breeze and no electricity. our neighbors dog died due to the heat (they were idiots but that is besides the point). Fans and such can only do so much. I agree, use windows and nature as much as possible, but banning the use of A/C is ridiculous. BTW Start to go after the corporations/ rich that are causing 90% of the the pollution and putting 100% of the blame on the "citizens". How many of you have taken a private jet to travel under 100 miles? or to go shopping? Place the blame where it truly belongs.

Emulation is perfectly legal, even tested in court against Sony and enshrined into law (in the US) in the actual DMCA, for the purposes of maintaining software functionality. It is only illegal to download ROMs/disk images of games you don't already own or system software for a console/platform you do not own. Technically you should make your own ROMs/disk images from the software you own and dump the system software directly from your devices, but downloading them instead ends up with identical output/results. Personally, I imaged all my own PS2 disks and downloaded PS2 bios files that match all three PS2 models I own, out of convenience. Now I can play all my legally owned PS2 games at 4k via PCSX2 on my PC and it is glorious!

Game developers who don't release a demo should be fined or sent to jail. If you want $60+ for a game, I want to know I like the game before I commit to purchase it. Also imbecile like this doesn't think of retro games that you can't buy, so only way to play them is to go for ROMs. GTA 5, yeah go buy it. GTA 1 that you can't buy anywhere -- Rom away!

Kratos literally only goes after women in all the games. As to Aloy, like many RPG style games, you can direct where the romance goes. The character is hetero, bi, or gay, based on your choices. Ellie in the Last of us was written as a lebsian.

But, the biggest PlayStation exclusive franchises are Gran Turismo#1, Uncharted#2, and Ratchet & Clank#3. God of War is #4, the other 2 pictured are not even in the top 5 (The last of us #10, Horizon*, currently not even in top 20). *Bad release timing for both Horizon games really set them back, which is a shame because they have pretty good gameplay and good storytelling.

It's debatable that these are the big three franchises of Sony to begin with (Aside from God Of War). Uncharted is arguably bigger than Horizon, and they do have publishing rights to some Marvel games, notably Spider-Man and Wolverine, and aside from Wolverine not being released, the two Spider-Man games were massive successes.
