This is really funny, but I wouldn't deliver anything there either, Also, this brought back a fun memory - my dad had 2 Labrador Retrievers that LOVED to drag tools & pieces of scrap iron around. Those two lady Labs, Chip & Teddi, would definitely have grabbed an axe if they had gotten access to one!

It’s never been easier to order something online. Countless apps now let us receive bags of groceries, hot and steamy meals, and virtually any item we so desperately need in mere minutes. But sometimes, we forget about the people bringing us these goods, and all too often, we lack the understanding of what they have to endure day in and day out.
Any courier can attest that making deliveries is far from an easy job. They simply don’t have the luxury to glide through the day at their own pace and take their sweet time carrying packages and bringing them to customers’ doorsteps. Delivery drivers usually spend their working hours under pressure, driving fully-loaded vans and simultaneously juggling many duties. Plus, they then have to report their tasks to their companies that consistently rush them to transport more packages at a much faster pace.

I always appreciate when a food delivery let's me know what's up. Some people are so damn rude to food staff
Richard Console Jr., an attorney and founding partner at Console and Associates, P.C., explained that delivery drivers carry a great risk of getting seriously hurt. It looks like many of us don't realize that danger and delivery drivers go hand in hand. While auto accidents are one of the most obvious and dangerous hazards workers face, risks don’t end once they leave the road.
Drivers encounter an abundance of safety hazards when they step out of their vehicles, and one of the most common ones is poorly restrained pets at purchasers' residences. In 2020 alone, more than 5,800 postal workers were attacked by dogs while delivering the mail, according to the United States Postal Service (USPS). Whether they got gently nipped at their ankles, viciously bitten or even attacked, aggressive pet behavior puts many employees in danger. Any courier is at risk, Console Jr. stated, "especially to hand-deliver packages or messages to a private residence, could be bitten in the course of their work. That includes not only postal workers employed by the USPS but also employees of companies like FedEx, UPS, DHL, and smaller logistics and delivery companies."

"More than 8 times as many couriers and messengers got hurt on the job on Wednesdays than on Sundays. Monday is the second most dangerous day to make deliveries, followed by Tuesday and Thursday," he added.

Another thing that increases the risk of danger is when companies ask too much of their employees. "Some delivery drivers feel pressured to exceed the speed limit, roll through stop signs, and otherwise pay less attention to the road and more attention to the clock and to the dispatcher constantly demanding more deliveries in less time,” the attorney noted. "All of these actions can raise drivers’ risks of being in a car accident." Moreover, the rush to deliver the goods on time can make workers skip breaks which in turn can make them lose their attention while on the road.

That could save the puppies life. I got through the same thing. A dog I took from the streets gave birth to seven puppies while I wasn't paying attention, and 5 of them died, because she delivered them in the cold floor. The next week she was nervous because of some fireworks and suffocated another one. I became really depressed after having to bury them. Always put some boxes near a dog who's about to give birth. It might save several lifes

I tip in cash also. And I also put in a plastic bag, but I put it in a plastic grocery bag. So it doesn't get wet or lost in the driver's car.
While the driver is overall satisfied with their route, their pay, and their job in general, one thing that grinds their gears is the management. "For example, despite our contract stipulating that we are entitled to sick and personal days — as well as bereavement time — trying to take it is a whole other story," they said and added that every time they take time off, managers are sure to make them feel guilty about it. So when it comes to unhealthy practices and treatment, UPS is no better than Amazon and FedEx which have been notoriously talked about in the news. "Somehow, they just do a better job of keeping it under wraps," the driver said. "Drivers are the reason UPS is able to run, and sometimes our bosses forget that."

I once delivered to a family that had 2 huskies. It was a hand to me order so I knocked and waited, the 2 dogs had opened the door started jumping around me in circles trying to get the food out of my hands. The other thing is...tip your driver please they are doing what you don't want to do and$2.50 to drive 16 miles south no tip feels really crummy. This driver took extra time while NOT taking other runs to make sure your food was correct ... why be so crappy to them?

Sorry if somebody already brought this up but where I work, the website and app default are set to contactless which means 99% of them don't even know they placed a contactless delivery order and are now wondering why their food is sitting on their porch or steps (which are probably soaking wet or some are covered in garbage and/or dog c**p) and then proceed to ask "Am I supposed to bend over and pick this up? So anywho, the policy is pretty simple. Leave food, knock on door/ring doorbell, step back 6' and wait for the customer to acknowledge. If no response, try again and then call/text the customer and wait for acknowledgment. If still nothing, you call the store and they try to contact the customer. If still nothing then the store tells you to leave it or not. Pain in the a*s? Yes. Worth it? Yes. Just saying, "contactless cash" orders where they hand you the money lol or contactless and they're at your car trying to get it from you before you put it in park? Lol they don't even know

I got to the point where I just started acting like it was never contactless (unless there were explicit instructions.) If they are really that adamant about it being contactless.... They will tell you. Just yell through the door or wave through the window to let me know that you know it's there. Not too much to ask I don't think.

I have contactless set up on everything. Ordered a bunch of childrens medicine for my sick baby. Just as I finally got him to sleep, they knocked so loud. Dog started barking and howling, older kids yelling “someone’s here!”. Dude wouldn’t leave until I opened the door. Still tipped though cause I’m not a monster.

My mom orders Door Dash every day, sometimes multiple times, and has been doing so for two years now. I can count on one hand the number of people who knocked or rang the doorbell. And even when they did, they left before we could catch them. It would be pretty hard to give them a cash tip.

I think it also has something to do with your class background. I'm not independently wealthy, but I'm quite comfortable now. I grew up working class and I worked plenty of low-paid service jobs on my way here, so I see my younger self when I look at a service worker, and tip generously. Some people have always had money and look at the poors as a different sort of people less deserving of their respect.

Once I got some late-night delivery and the driver called saying that they couldn't come to the door because of their leg... but it also definitely sounded sketchy and I didn't want to get got by going out to a stranger's car alone like that... so I'll never know if it was legit, and they DID get it to my door after I insisted... I'm sure this does happen though and I wish we didn't have the pressure to work while injured like that.

Supposing you could do that, it might still be a bad idea. Looking at the image, I doubt that one would work like that, but even if it *did,* you've basically got the whole key permanently in the lock, far as I know, anybody could come by and apply a bit of torque and start the engine. It's not as bad with like a half key if you didn't lose *all* of the key's "teeth" like in the picture

I always feel so bad when the online service is a pain with the tipping. Local restaurant is still doing half their business pickup/curbside, and they get jipped all the damn time because the company’s website defaults to a tiny tip, and it’s hard to find on the screen. I thought the guy who gave me my order was going to cry when I told him there was a problem with my order and handed him a cash tip.

This doesn't say the delivery driver kept it.. it could be a direct delivery from the restaurant and they have delivered the wrong order and when looked they've realised this and called the restaurant but by then its been in someone else's home so anything could have happened to it (highly unlikely, but a risk either way).. we've had this happen to us, unfortunately the other way round so we got the cheaper meal but we got to keep that with a full refund.

How do you know it's wrong? if you checked; wouldn't you check at restaurant? if found wrong, wouldn't you say "hey this is wrong order, gimme correct one". How about returning it back. If they didn't charge a card then there's nothing they can do unfortunately and by not doing this I don't think the delivery driver will get their fee, but I'm not sure..if paid by card then I'm sure they won't get refunded as there's a limit of time to cancel and seeing as the order had been collected then the time has passed for them to be able to cancel the order without charge.

Our block of 8 flats is numbered in the hundreds, the next two houses are in the tens...of a totally different address. Kind people give visitors a hint as to which road to go down to access their property by car. We have a "walk through" estate. The Green, Walk and Lawn addresses are often spread around 4 or 5 roads for one path. The Road name signs have lists of up to 5 different pedestrian addresses (including numbers) that they lead to. Homes off one road, all oriented the same way, one one side of the road, can be 3 different addresses. Another 1 or 2 for the other side of the road. Some homes are facing different directions to each other, but are the same road address. Whole thing was designed by an American (hated Brits?). I've seen people reduced to tears trying to find places

I'm wondering the same. Hope someone can answer. If they get a very low income and NEED tip to pay theyre bills, Its sad and wrong they didnt get more than, $2,50. In my country we dont tip the people who deliever grocery. (They get paid around $15-$20/h for driving grocery's to around 20 people in same area). Its not expected or normal here to tip them.No one does. We tip take away but not grocery. This is in Scandinavia by the way. EDIT: The people here who deliever the grocery's are not the same people who packed what you ordered. Here we order from an app. Some people work where they pack the stuff you ordered, and some other people deliever it to the costumers. They all work in the same company and gets paid more than those who work at grocery stores. That is why we dont tip for this in my country😊

I did house cleaning in Toronto for a while, clients would tip us wine, gift cards to LCBO, fancy restaurants, expensive chocolates, straight money(usually a yearly tip of anywhere from 100-500$ depending on the family), and homemade baked goods. Cleaning houses is damn lucrative if you're physically mobile and dont mind being occasionally talked down to.

Asinine. This is why tipping should not be a thing. First off, we are obligated, even with crappy service. Secondly, I may pay for the food with a card and want to tip with cash, but you're too much of a d**k to do your job?

I almost always tip with cash. My dad delivers for door dash and he's mentioned that sometimes door dash doesn't give him the tip. Plus, there's the fact that so many delivery services these days only allows you to give a certain percentage for the tip.

I work for Doordash to pick up the wage cut I took when I got a job with fewer hours for mental health reasons. Its a decent enough side job. I don't get many crazy orders and the few I have had at least the customers were very nice about the mix ups. But the one I will never forget was when I got lost at an apartment complex and when I finally got out of my car I heard two guys having a LITERAL pi/ssing contest. They sounded quite drunk and one guy was saying to the other guy "see, mine's going farther." and his buddy goes "because your closer to the wall. Step back." Then I dropped off the food, got into my car and decided to end the dash early.

My mom orders Door Dash every day, sometimes multiple times, and has been doing so for two years now. I can count on one hand the number of people who knocked or rang the doorbell. I know some people might prefer that you not for one reason or another, sleeping baby, dogs that bark, whatever. But I feel like the DEFAULT should be to notify people that their food is at the door. My phone might be dead or in another room or on silent. The doorbell is right next to you, it takes no more time to ring it.

The app will notify her, but if she's not in the habit of having the volume on or listening for her notifications, she might miss it. However, I would suggest delivery people ring the bell in preference to knocking. Some hearing impaired people have special doorbells that do things like flash lights. There are some things that might help your mom, though. If you set up a different notification tone for the DoorDash app, that might help her realize it's not just a text. I have a smart doorbell with a camera and I gave it a different notification tone on my phone so I know if someone's been to the door even if they don't press the doorbell button and I don't tune it out like I do other notifications. You could even use a notification tone that sounds like a doorbell.

I usually ask the Shipt drivers to put a few lightweight items in plastic bags because my service dog likes to help carry things in but can't carry a heavy paper bag. I get so many comments about how that request made their day or was their favorite request they'd seen. The other day the heavy paper bag had my name on it in Sharpie, and the lightweight plastic bag said "service dog" on it in Sharpie. 😂If possible I try to tell them my dog appreciated the lightweight bags, and send a picture if the app allows for that.

Early on in first lock down my mum sent me flowers. People in them days were not knocking, and it took a few knocks before I registered. Guy was really apologetic but someone had packed the clearly labelled 'this way up' the wrong way and it was a mess. He was worried I would report him. It was a very hot day so I asked him if he needed water but he said it would just make him need the toilet. I told him we didn't use the toilet by front door these days so go on in while I go sterilise a bottle for you. The whole thing was done masked up and at distance but when I waved at him as he drove off I could see he had had a good cry while in toilet. Oh, the flowers recovered with a little care..
