Deciding which person to hire to work for you can be difficult, because employees are acting their best in the interview, so you can’t really know what kind of a person they truly are. Sometimes it turns out that their behavior in the workplace is unacceptable and employers have to lay them off.
Reddit user GravyxNips was curious what were the craziest reasons bosses had to fire their employees. They received over 9k responses and all of those reasons for firing people seemed quite justified. Among other things, these employees were fired because of stealing, being irresponsible, or making people around them feel uncomfortable.
Don’t forget to upvote the stories that you thought were the craziest and comment if you've had any similar experiences!

Had to fire my own brother from our distribution "company". Really was not easy and defintely caused family fights. He had been using our product so much so that we lost half our stock.
To be fair he got over it in about half an hour, we were 7 and 5 selling candy to fundraise.
He's still planning to get revenge on you; I'd advise you to still sleep with one eye open 😁
Hoo boy...
I'd have to go with the guy who in the span of 24 hours...
Started a fist fight with another employee (on camera, with witnesses) then called the police and said the other guy did it, trying to press charges. I just sent the video.
Trespassed on the property the following day and slurred at my boss (on camera, with witnesses), then called the police and said my boss did it. I just sent the video.
Hurt himself somehow and went to the hospital, where he told the doctor he'd been attacked at work. Doc found no injury consistent with his story and well yeah, camera...
dude wtf is this guys problem. Was he thinking "Ooh a camera lets start a fight right in front of it then say it was someone else...genius!"
By how quick this all happened, I doubt the guy had any clue it was all caught on camera. By the time he found out he was captured on the first incident, I'm sure everything was done.

No he'd push the crayons up his nose and say his boss came in and did it 😂

This sounds like legit medically diagnosable narcissism (genuinely believe they are the victim in all scenarios and can lie with a totally straight face. )
Nah, narcissism alone doesn't explain this. The core of that are feelings of grandeur and an egocentric world view. The victim complex and lying are more a symptom of that. Same for the bad treatment of others - intentionally harming people isn't part of narcissism as such, but intentionally putting yourself first at all times (and therefore backstabbing and cutting down other people as deemed necessary) is. This sounds less like that and more like he wanted to set them up to press charges and get money out of them.... in a reeeaaaally stupid way....

One of my ER nurses was chasing another down the hall with a scalpel in her hand screaming at the top of her lungs “I’m going to cut you b****!”
maybe SHE was the one that needed medical assistance?(in the mind)
Load More Replies...this is intriguing...I wonder what the nurse did to be worthy of being a murder victim...lol
Medical dramas would say that's too unbelievable (reality is sometimes stranger than fiction)
Load More Replies...News Flash: Nurses (and doctors!) are...wait for it...HUMAN BEINGS! With all the same human traits - happiness, sadness, jealousy, anger, fear - as the rest of us. There could be any number of reasons for the woman's behavior. And with the stress of working 12 hour shifts, and the absolute craziness that happens in an ER (A&E for European Pandas), there's a gazillion possibilities, not to mention what health care workers have been through with the pandemic going on. I hope someone got this woman some help, or at least notified the authorities!
The one running away was acriminal pretending to be a nurse, the one chasing her was an investigator who uncovered the plot to overcome the hospital and turn it into a meth lab. While she overstepped her bounds by threatning with a sharp instrument she was able to harmlessly arrest the criminal and everybody lived happily ever ater.
Once a had a guy call in sick to his restaurant/bar shift right before his shift and then proceeded to show up s*** faced drunk for happy hour during the time he was supposed to be working.
He was not a bright man.
Had an admin assistant email in sick while she was on holiday visiting her family in Ireland (the office was in England) so her sick days would be deducted from her vacation leave - fairly standard practice in UK. The next day one of her colleagues got a postcard saying what a wonderful time she was having in . . . Disneyland!
Dumba** stole a $100 bill out of the register at the end of his FIRST shift alone on register.
and if he didn't, he would have been able to keep the job and make more money, but since thats on his record, hes screwed for life(most likely)
I wanna say no s**t again, but this time im just gonna say, "facts, my man"
Load More Replies...I guess the short term bonus was far more appealing than a long term pay check.
I use to work at a grocery store and we shared registers and they were counted at the end of shift. The girl I came in behind was often drunk and not exactly trustworthy and somehow $100 came up short and we both got wrote up since they couldn’t prove who did it. Luckily or unlucky she did it again and they ended up firing her. It was taken off my record
Worked retail with a girl who cleaned out her till (took all the money home). She came back a week later to pick up her paycheck. Our boss called the cops and she was immediately arrested.
Well... it was my first shift. It happened after my boss. I came 30 minutes before to learn. She panicked then she said she is happy that I am here because she is late to gineacologist (she was pregnant). I told her she insisted to check cash after everyone (EVERYONE!), always. Yeah but she got no time... Sooo when I got time to close after 1h to count the money it was missing 600PLN (years ago it was half of my payment). I called her and she yelled at me how I could lose 600PLN in an hour... I was in depression none else wanted to hire me but I needed to eat. So I let her take that money from my payment...
Maybe it was the manager counting the bills after and pinned it on the new guy!
1) Get new job 2) Steal $100 immediately 3) Repeat I mean, if this worked indefinitely...
I'm training a new girl. We're sitting at a computer together. The whole time I'm training her, she's scanning the perimeter around her. She's asking about this guy. Is he single? What about that guy? She's paying very little to no attention to what I'm telling her about, you know, the JOB. She's not even looking at what I'm doing as I'm demonstrating the work to her. She's rubbernecking every male who walks past.
At first I was nice. Ok did you see what I just did there? Now when this happens, we do that.
Etc etc. Her eyes were glazed over, she wasn't absorbing anything, I could tell.
Nice wasn't working. After a time, I said to her very sharply, "Are you here to work, or are you here looking for a boyfriend? Because if you're not here to work, I'm going to need to find someone else for this job (I had hiring authority)".
That snapped her into reality for about 15 minutes. I finally said it's break time. She smiled and said, "I'm going to go up to the 4th floor and see if there's any fresh meat up there."
After break time, I sent her into the fax room to collect some faxes I needed. The mail guy was in there changing rolls of fax paper. He came out of the mail room and said I think there's something wrong with your new girl. He was very nervous. I said what happened.
Apparently she was in the fax room which tended to get hot because of all the machines in there. She had perched her a** up on the edge of the table, hiked her dress up to where her underwear was showing, arched her back, unbuttoned the front of her dress, and fanned herself with the sheaf of fax pages and said, "Oh, it's just so...HOT...in here." Yeah. Like that. Like the opening of a p****.
I totally believed him. I believed she did that. 100%, she totally did that.
I called her temp agency and said she's not working out. I think this was under 2 hours.
I have stories about temps for days lol.
Second that. I think this counts as sexual haresment.
Load More Replies...Imagine if the genders were reversed--if there was guy saying "Ooo, is that girl single? What about her? And that one?" then saying "I'm gonna go see if there's some 'fresh meat' on the 4th floor." and moving into the fax machine room with a woman, unzipping his fly and propping his booty up on a table saying "Oh, it's just so... HAWT... in here~" 😐
Well... I do have to wonder whether the woman in that situation would be believed.
Load More Replies...Did this site seriously censor the word "porno"??? What the F**K puritanical S**T is this? Also, it sounds like this woman in question, in the story, might have some kind of medical problem that's causing her to be ludicrously focused on sex at an inappropriate time.
Oh yeah when it's a woman it's a medical problem. If it was a man he would just be a piece of s**t right?

I had to fire a pizza delivery driver because he threatened another driver with the giant rocker knife we used to cut pizzas. His reason was the other driver was gay and he didn't like his "decadent" life style.
That guy needs help. Thank god his homophobic ass was fired
I shudder to think how this nut job would have reacted if he delivered a pizza to a homosexual couple with a nice house.
Years ago, at a lumber company. Had a guy, less than two hours after he started on his first day, pick up his car with a forklift and stand underneath it to see what was rattling when he drove.
My dad sometimes uses it to clean under his car, but he has been working at that company for over 40 years!
you gotta wait at least a month or two to take advantage of workplace equipment lol
I wonder if the guy ever found what was rattling underneath his car. Lol
I've used the company forklift for incidental auto-lifting, but certainly not on my first day!
Not too crazy. More stupid than crazy. One of the programmers on my team was sitting at his desk looking at p***. And this is cubicle land. No offices. My Director walked into the area to talk to me and saw it. Then it was the first thing he told me about, so I got up and walked over for a look myself and there it was. Me and the Director looked at each and I said I gotta take care of this. So we walked back to HR, I told them what was going on and what we saw and they told me to fire him. So I did. He lost a $110K job for looking at p*** on his computer at work.
Took me longer than I'd like to admit to figure out what a four letter p-word was. I guess I've never seen it censored before
Initially I thought the word “poop” was censored. I was honestly wondering why it was in the cubicle and why anyone just wanted to look at it instead of cleaning it up. 😀

WHO was he related to, that HR fought to keep him? Also, TheReader19, is absolutely right. Whoever had his back, should be gone as well. I wonder how many lawsuits were brought against the company by people victimized by that creep?
Not my personal experience, but one fellow contractor had a safety guy for 6 months. One weekend he took a trip out of town for non work related reasons. But used the company truck, and charged it all on the company credit card. On his way up there he ran a random person off the road, who just so happened to be one of the owners of another contractor who works closely with the one who employed this guy. Shortly after he was fired and I'm sure criminal charges were being brought against him. A couple weeks later his wife calls his former employer saying he had called her randomly and killed himself in his truck on the side of the highway. Me and another colleague went searching for records of this guy, couldnt find anything no claims of a suicide in the local paper where he supposedly killed himself at. Thought it was wierd but whatever. It turns out this guy falsified all his qualifications and job experience. Fast forward a month later, and I heard through the grapevine that the original contractor who had employed this guy recieved a call from some contractor across country because he applied for work there and put them down as his previous employer. He faked his own death to get out of trouble with the company then proceeded to put them down on his resume not expecting anyone to check his references lol.
We had someone fall asleep at his desk with a lit cigarette in his hand. In a office full of cubicles like maybe... 6-7 years ago? Smoking wasn't legal anywhere indoors let alone in an office building lmao
And the first time he wasn't even fired. He was fired when it happened again!
screwed enough to be smoking in the first place but wow this is next hecking level

Fired a guy for looking to pay someone to cast black magic on the owner and the owner’s family to bewitch them into giving him a raise and, ironically, never firing him. Only reason I found out was because he asked someone else in the office for help in finding a witch doctor to cast the spells and word got round. No one wanted to be in the same room as him after that.
When I confronted him he said the devil made him do it so it wasn’t his fault. I live in the Middle East. I definitely did not wake up expecting to fire someone for black magic that day. Side note: practicing black magic is literally a death sentence here.
I don't think you can be fired for using black magic where I live, as it isn't considered a real thing.
I'm fairly certain if you were using it, fake or not, with the intent to bring harm to anyone, you're a** would be fired here (Near Seattle) but maybe that's partly because of our fairly sizable wiccan population.

Load More Replies...I worked at a pet store, and was the lead cashier so I had to train this girl who didn’t think she had to abide by the uniform because it’s just(store name) and doesn’t count as a real job. That was a warning that despite her thinking she did need to follow the uniform rules. Then when ringing up customers she actually told customers they couldn’t buy certain items because we were running low and she planned on getting a pet soon and wanted these items. I apologized and rung them up. Second warning with me explaining how that’s not how it works and she could shop when she’s off the clock. Finally my manager fired her when she tried to steal one of the cats that were up for adoption after being told she needed to wait for approval after they do a home visit and make sure she can care for the cat. Her excuse for trying to steal the cat? Her landlord doesn’t allow pets so she wouldn’t be approved and she’d be a much better pet parent then anyone who else who wanted the cat and much better than any of the customers we got. The girl didn’t even last a week.

He ended up hiring someone who had worked there 5-6 years previously (high turnover, so a lot of hiring/leaving), the few staff that had known her before she’d left hated her, but had no idea why she left. She even passed all the checks from head office before she was hired. Restaurant manager comes back about a month after she’s been hired, takes one look at her, and RAGES. Like my RM is yelling at this girl, she’s yelling at the manager that hired her, and all the crew that had known her when she was here last. Obviously none of us knew what was going on, but it turns out this girl hadn’t left, she’d been fired, and management at the time hadn’t told anyone that, just that she’d quit. This girl had scammed BK by pretending to be pregnant (fake ultrasounds, plans, baby shower, the whole lot) and then took paid maternity leave so she could go work somewhere else, because it was seasonal work with better pay, with the idea of having a job for the off-season to come back to. I have no idea how she got through the head office checks, but she was fired that day. He worked at the company for 2 weeks, came to the Christmas party on friday, got s*** faced, told the HR manager that she was a s*** and would die alone (they had some previous vaguely romantic history, went on a couple of dates or something) tried to fight 2 of the customer service managers who asked him to calm down, and while being escorted out he turned to the CEO and COO and told them to go f*** themselves. I work at an art studio where we teach classes and sell pottery that our artists make for others to paint. I'm one of the artists and the manager. I started getting a funny feeling about one of my employees.. she wasn't doing anything blatently wrong, just seemed to work really slowly sometimes, request insignificant but kinda odd schedule changes, and have different break habits from the other staff. I started feeling like she was stealing but this is a really small business so I didn't have her on camera or any way to really prove it... Until she accidentally sent me a video of herself painting pieces that I MADE from her home!
OK, class - today's lesson is about not videoing yourself while engaged in criminal activity.
When I was doing pottery, there was a woman stealing bisqueware out of the kilns, then glazing it and selling it herself. I found one of my own pieces at an art show - with an ugly glaze on it that she did after she stole it - so I picked it up, and while she was screaming at me, I walked it to the parking lot and smashed it on the concrete. ...///... I went in, grabbed a broom and dustpan and swept up the pieces, which I walked back to her booth and dumped on her chair.
Plagiarism. She stole art from the company and was pretending to paint it, and sent the manager a video of her doing it on accident.

No need to check their computer to confirm any suspicions about what you think they are doing. If they don’t hit their targets for whatever reason and can’t be helped just part ways. If they are shopping for jobs or towels or watching YouTube videos but still hitting all their targets then good for them.
Given how narrow the aisles are, I would think so.

Like I was trying to show her how to steam milk properly, she was off in la la land and when she snapped back into the conversation asking, "What are we doing again" followed by me reminding her and she quite literally asked what was in the gallon jug that I poured into the metal pitcher. I told her it was milk and she just looked at me, her eyes saying, '???!??!!?" She was there for 2 days.

I only discovered this because I was doing a major project and working late a lot. My boss wondered why the guy was putting in so many hours yet getting very little done and I had to tell the truth.
The employee came to work and "punched in" which is also called "clocked in" where an employer uses a device to record the start and end time an employee works. I am a chef at an upscale restaurant, the sauté cook has a lobster dish on his station that involves a technique called deglazing that involves alcohol so in turn the pan catches on fire briefly and flames up. When you do it correctly (hard to do it incorrect) the alcohol is cooked off and the flame goes out. Every time he made this dish he would deglaze the pan, catch it on fire and then blow it out, blowing his own germs and nastiness all over someone’s food and everything in the blast radius. That was a week ago. Fired him after he did it multiple times after being asked not to. Maybe it’s because of the current state of affairs, but I couldn’t believe a trained cook would do that.
Yuck. It is just as bad as people celebrating their birthdays, STILL are blowing out the candles. I wonder if any contact tracing, has made a connection between this action, and the spread of disease, yet? (And I don't just mean, COVID19.)
probably not. Chances are solid that it's within a social group with plenty of other ways for things to transmit anyhow.

I was a bartender/bar manager. This guy came in one night and said he was an aspiring DJ and asked if we would consider hiring him to come in just on Sunday nights to DJ for us. He said we wouldn’t have to pay him at first, he would just take tips and we could renegotiate after he helped to build up our Sunday night crowd. He lasted less than 3 months. He drove away so much business and I got SO many complaints. He played the same songs every week and when people made requests (for commonly known songs), he had no idea who they (the musicians) were. I had to fire someone who was working for free. He was a nice guy, which is the only reason he lasted as long as he did.
Oooh, if this is in SoCal I think I know the guy. Like a friend. I had to take some space after I got him a paying weekend gig (it was at a weekend retreat he wanted to attend, so he got the retreat weekend along with food and lodging in addition to getting paid to spin). He didn't prepare for it, he only played the music he wanted to play (80's euro house/techno), insulted everyone for being stupid in their music requests (even though we had an explicit discussion about the type of music to be played and he said he was good with that and not playing obscure techno), he didn't bring his glasses so he couldn't see what he was doing, he hadn't bothered to name any of his tracks so he couldn't actually find any music that was requested, he didn't bother mixing so it was one song would end then a minute or two to find another song ...
Maybe he just had good taste in music. A lot of the really popular stuff is total garbage. Still, no reason to only play the same set every week.
It doesn't matter. You aren't there to educate the crowd. You are there to entertain them, create a mood, encourage sales. "Sweet Caroline" is a creepy AF song, but the pianist would play it every Sunday afternoon bc that's when the softball team was there. They would do a sing along and someone would invariably buy a round of drinks for the entire bar and then ppl would buy more drinks. Play to your audience.

I work construction, and one of the subs gave me an invoice with no receipts. Turns out he wanted 30k for 4 weeks of work without paying the companies he rented equipment/dumpsters from. I paid off the companies he owed money to and told him to f*** off
OP is a general contractor, in charge of multiple subcontractors (carpenters, plumbers, etc). One of those subcontractors tried to steal from the job by taking the money which needed to be paid out for services and running off with it. As a clearer example: GC hires a plumbing contractor to install pipes (for X amount), plumber hires an excavation guy to dig the trench. Rather than pay the excavation guy from his bid amount, the plumber tried to keep the money.
Load More Replies...Good for you. What a jerk he is. I wonder who else he has tried to screw over ?
Wish the contractor would have done that for me. Subcontractor got dumpsters from us, didn't pay we refused to move the boxes, the main contractor calls us and begs us to remove them. I said no they owe us $10k he said I'll pay it, signed an agreement and everything. WE pulled the boxes and then the contractor tells us to pound salt, he's not paying. At that point I handed over everything to the legal dept
My contractor's sub took a rented lift from one job and illegally towed it to my house for the job here, then left it for 3 months... We only found out later when we complained about it being here and the contractor went to return it only to find out it had been reported as stolen. Also the sub wasn't paying his workers and we only discovered this after they complained to us because they were told we weren't paying the subcontractor.. It was such a cluster f. We ended up firing both the sub and later the contractor and finishing the job ourselves.
My assistant manager announced to a female coworker that he had officially named both of her b****, after working with her for three years. This was the second time he had said something sexual to her within a week and had to be let go. He was a 47 year old virgin who still lived with his ailing parents. I didn’t know who to be sorry for the most.
exactly i spent a good amount of time trying to figure out what i was. it's bo0bs I mean i understand censoring curse words but bo0bs is a bit far.

That guy is the reason that we all have to watch those sexual harassment videos that only contain common sense information every year. The videos tell you not to tell someone you named their boobs. That's just common sense. You don't do that. I don't know that I would do that to my wife.
Profanity filled road rage rant through and Ambulance PA system at a crowded intersection. I had complaints coming in for well over a month.
To be fair, it can be frustrating when you have an emergency and people act like your siren and flashing lights don't mean anything to them.
That is actually kind of funny. In Germany, an amulance driver called protesting Covidiots a bunch of morons, as he drove past. He was celebrated by half the country. When the company announced, he'd be called into HR and face consequences, the company was just innundated with messages etc supporting him. So then they just released an explanation about how ambulance drivers are under a lot of pressure and a lapse in professionalism is understadnable. And it is. Give the guys/gals a break; they are trying to save lives and are often treated like s**t.

Okay I lol-ed on that part he was selling crap out of the trunk of his car. Made me remember scenes from old movies where shady folks sell stolen junk that way.
He kept doing yellow text on a white background for briefing slides. He was a graphic designer.
I use yellow for sub-titles when I'm watching movies online (when settings are available) but I at least outline them or give them a drop shadow. Otherwise, they're just a yellow stain on the screen.
This was hammered into our brains in our computer graphics classes...repeatedly...NEVER, EVER use yellow text on a white background.
He said, My ex wife died and there’s no one to take care of our kids. Needed a week off to sort everything out. Ex called to talk to him. Boom. One of the guys went to lunch with short hair and came back with a ponytail down to his a**. Identical twins that were sharing the job. All the guys knew and thought it was funny. Yikes.
This appears to be two separate stories. In the first one, the employee lied about his ex having died but then she called the office to talk to him - so he got caught in the lie. He probably wanted a week off for fun but didn't have any vacation time left. And the second one was a pair of twins thinking they could take turns at the job only one was hired for. Not very bright, especially if one of them wasn't actually qualified to do the job.

Dude I worked with badly photoshoped the face of a 40s something single mom that also worked there onto the body of some online p*** photo. He then proceeded to show it around to the other female workers like look what Woman#1 sent me you should send me stuff too. This was while he would continually brag about the girlfriend he had at home. He got fired, then dumped by his girlfriend and kicked out of their apartment.
wow holy crap thats a lot of after effects as well... he do be screwed
He screwed himself. (He HAD to, no one else would after hearing about his antics.) He received the Trifecta of punishments: fired, dumped, and evicted.
Might not be the craziest, but when I was working in Fast Food(Subway) I had to fire a guy for assaulting a customer. He had a bad temper. He threw the tuna scoop at a particularly difficult Karen. I had to request the customer to not press charges.
kinda off topic but ngl if there were a dnd character with "tuna scoop toss" then my life would be complete
All you have to do is make an orc or something that has a bunch of tuna to smash up and throw throw at people.

Any person who has ever worked food service or retail has wanted to do something like that multiple times.
I mean, knowing Karens, they would have just saID they assulted them anyway.
It finally happened... The Karen was right... she could legitimately sue a person and decided to not... Redemption exists !
Had an employee that was going to get fired for simply showing up late constantly with no legit reason. During the term meeting she tells me another employee cut the brake lines in her car - it’s obvious this was to save her from being fired. She didn’t realize that something like that gets cops involved. She was termed, and then detectives showed up to her house to get statements. Of course, no evidence of lines being cut and now she’s dealing with police for making false statements.
LOL! Tell her, "Stop thinking...you're not good at it!"

A guy was hired at the metal fab shop I was working at. He had been laid off when we were slow He was re-hired on a Friday, started Monday. Goes and does his drug test first thing. He failed. Apparently he had celebrated being rehired over the weekend. It was funny listening to my boss say, "Are you kidding me? You knew our testing policy! You couldn't wait three days??".
In the early 2000's I managed a coffee shop that required the customers' names to be put on the cup. One guy looked like he was doing it but upon closer inspection on some cups he was writing an IP address. Turns out he was running an illegal sports book out of the shop. He did quit before I had to technically fire him because he found out I knew.
A guy shaved/trimmed off his p**** and left them scattered across a shared desk in a shared office. When confronted, he pulled a George Costanza: “Oh, is that frowned upon?”

I was a florist and had a 40-something woman delivering for me. I received a call from the building manager of a brand new office building, with only one tenant, telling me my driver wrote on the elevator wall with a sharpie. They had video showing that she was the only person to use the elevator during the time the vandalism took place. The worst part for me was, this happened a few days before Valentine's Day.
valentines day is when people buy a crapload of flowers, and if its a flower place...then that means M O N E Y so.... yikes that sucks.
Why does the date matter ? Surely you can find someone else before the big day.
I work for a hotel. Had to fire 2 separate employees on 2 different occasions for letting people in vacant rooms to smoke c**** and steal from the rooms.

That reminds me of one of those reality shows like 'Hotel Impossible' or something like. They had an episode where one of the employees would set up parties in one of the empty rooms, complete with copious amounts of drugs and the hotel's booze.
Dumb enough to do it when there's a camera crew around, too.

Sign in the women's bathroom. XXX manager will get you pregnant. Proceed at your own risk.
Those of us who are not so arrogant as to behave that shitty also are unlikely to be interested in managerial jobs. It's unfortunate that these jobs are so often pursued by exactly the kind of people who will do the most damage in them. There are good managers, don't get me wrong. I'm just noticing that there's a self-selection problem with managerial work: arrogance tends to pursue power and authority.

I don't understand this one. Surely, IT were informed of a new employee starting, before he arrived? At every job I've ever had, the login details were always there on the first day that I started.
Unless you have a very bureaucratic structure where 15 people have to give their approval on vellum written with a quill dipped in the blood of a virgin before IT can create an account.

She didn't show up for her first shift, then tried to blame us for it, then refused to turn in her uniform and key. FIRST SHIFT. What the hell lady? Okay first solo shift, she showed up for the 2 training shifts before that, but still I can't believe it
Because she saw her friends partner cheating in the pub and she told her friend. Cheating girl came into the pub during the middle of lunch service and made a massive scene threatening to smash up the pub and the girl. She was kept safe in a room and let go. Poor girl didn't deserve to lose her job
I'm confused by this. So, the member of staff saw her friend's partner cheating, and told her friend. Surely that shouldn't have gotten her fired?
When you're the reason why a customer returns to make a massive scene because of something you did or said, you will get fired. What happens in the business, stays in the business.

The saddest was a lady that smelled like alcohol pretty frequently. I don't think she was drunk on the job (maybe some shots done at lunch combined with sweating out the prior night). But the other members of the team started to complain about it and it was becoming disruptive.
One of my old teachers used to quite frequently smell like alcohol due to the medication he had to take, and a lot of parents complained, the guy did keep his job but he often received complaints... he was a great teacher though. I wonder if the situation with this women is similar, and it's not even actual booze that is causing the odour..
I had a co-worker at an engineering company who was fearless and hunted game on her snowmobile (rural Alaska). She dressed out and packaged the meat and ate ONLY that wild meat in her meals. That gamey meat plus munching her favorite snack, dried soybeans, made her unbelievably flatulent. She wss a great worker and very sweet but you could follow her scent trail through the office. But hey, it's Alaska, and it didn't interfere with her job, so...
A coworker often comes in stinking drunk. Funny thing is, it doesn't affect her job performance one iota.
I worked with someone once who constantly drank vodka. She swore up and down "no one can smell it." Uhhhh, yeah you can the minute you walk in the door.
It IS a horrible odor. There was a drunkard at the retirement community I bussed tables at (restaurant). These people live there and are regulars. That means I had to deal with them EVERY day I worked. This guy stank HORRIBLY of sweat-out alcohol. I couldn't stand handling that table. (Another table had a lady who picked her teeth and stuck things on her water glass)
Worked for Nintendo of America and got to go to my first company Christmas Party. Food was great, first 3 alcohol drinks were free. He goes and sits down on Mrs. Claus's lap, then tried to grab her boobs...at which time Mr.Claus stood up and said "I don't care who I work for, you get your God D*** hand off my wife!" I got a job at a private college and found out I was replacing a guy who was fired for serious sexual harassment claims. I was tasked with helping in the investigation. He had a pregnant fiancee, but slept with a student and when she became pregnant and their relationship discovered, he was fired. The full truth was much worse. When I put new rules into place one of his former employees (now under me) started screaming at me that I shouldn't even be there because the guy and Student A were "in love," my supervisor came in and went off! "Really? X and Student A are in love? What about Students B, C, D and E who also came forward with allegations? What about the fact that he hired peer "tutors" who were failing their classes because he was buying drugs from them and was using school money to pay them? What about the fact that he went to student parties on campus and bought underage kids alcohol... and then tried to sleep with them?" No one complained about the new rules after that.
When they fired him, they didn't give him time to clean out his office, and I found boxes of bad poems and songs written to students, printed out with different names on each copy. A bunch of students dropped out because of him. It was so sad.
