A Member Of This Online Group Asked “Without Mentioning Your Country’s Name, Which Brand Identifies Where You’re From?”, And Here Are 30 Of The Most Interesting Answers
It's truly impressive that some brands out there have managed to make themselves so famous that most of us would probably be able to recognize them just from their branding colors or even from a small piece of their logo. And it's equally amazing how such world-renowned brands end up popularizing not just their products but the places they come from as well.
A few days ago, Reddit user UnimelbEnthusiast started a little game by asking other community members "Without mentioning your country’s name, which brand identifies where you’re from?" As of now, the question has received around 40.6k answers and more than 36k upvotes. Ikea.
Definitely UK. Doing shop at IKEA before move. Picked up load of those awesome bags to help. Swedish folk too organised to do this.
Guinness.
If you take out the "inn" in Guinness, you're gonna have "Guess". Heh, that's clever in my raccoon universe...
As Head of Guinness so large I would say you Irishman in UK depressed you cannot get decent pint.
Lego.
Ah Lego, The invention of an Englishman, in England, using English materials and English labour and an English patent. The inventor didn't think it would be that successful so didn't bother with an international patent until, along came a Dane who, saw that it was good, and said, 'I'm having that!'.
So very many of British inventions have been stolen by other countries. Would be OK if the other countries admitted to it, but they rarely do
Load More Replies...My Danish neighbour, whom has come to be more like a father to me, absolutely cannot stand Legos XD
Ferrari or Ferrero, pick one. Also Fiat if you seriously want that lol.
Me too, had it for 15 years and still going with NO problems. Never had any issues with that car.
Load More Replies...Ferrero is so much better than Ferrari. Especially Rafaello...
Tim Hortons.
Ha, I'm Canadian and had no idea people would be stumped by this. My first thought was that it would be too obvious.
lol. btw, It can be found in Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Philippines, Qatar, Mexico, Spain, China and Thailand.
Load More Replies...I don't think that many people would understand where is this from! I've never heard of it
It originated in Canada but can be found in Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Philippines, Qatar, Mexico, Spain, China and Thailand.

Load More Replies...I'll have a large double triple and a small box of Timbits.
Volkswagen.
Because someone posted "Germany" under the Ikea post, I'll now post "Sweden" under the Volkswagen post, for equity ^^
Robert T and Kona Pake: that's cute! Actually, I expected a few Americans to think Volkswagen is Mexican... I met a lot of US citizens, who would have bet their lives on that, just because a reproduction of the "beetle" was partly produced there.
UK. Trendies hired vintage camper for weekend. Germans would have decent VW Transporter with all trimmings.
I really want a T1 but a T1, especially in a good condition, is so God damn expensive :<
Tim tams... Or Vegemite I guess.
Never heard of Tims Tams, but I've now got The Land Down Under by Men At Work playing in my head!
Ehh, I really do not like Vegemite, people don't seem to like me for that.
Load More Replies...Are they a candy? Packaged pastries (like Hostess in the U.S.)?
Load More Replies...People give a lot of hate to vegemite but the trick is, not to eat it like Nutella :D
Nokia.
I thought it would be a while before somebody mentioned Nokia, but it's good to have an early Finnish.
Irn Bru.
“Irn-Bru is a Scottish carbonated soft drink, often described as >>Scotland's other national drink<<" source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irn-Bru
Scotland. I'd say highland spring water or the grouch whisky is more widely known
Load More Replies...Irn-Bru, one of two drinks that outsells Coca-Cola in its home market.
Going by stereotypes, McDonald's.
Dacia. "Good news! It's the Dacia Sandero!"
Samsung.
How the actual f**k does someone hold their phone like that with a straight face.
Heineken.
Dutch inventions: Bluetooth, Wifi, Cd, DVD and Blu-Ray, Speed camera, Microscope, Telescope. And they come up with sewer water.
The article is asking for specific brand names, not inventions. Agreed about the sewer water though ;-)

Load More Replies...So do I! My favorite are the flakes!!! My best friend, who is English brings me a pack of FLAKES every time she visits. Can't get them where I live... and in reverse I bring her Milka ;-) you always want what you cannot get!
Load More Replies...That would be America now, spoiling hundreds of years of English tradition.
Being really over the top specific... its made in Bourneville which is within the City of Birmingham, UK. It's a little village within the city that was built by Cadbury in the late 1800's to house the factory workers. Its a beautiful place to visit, and is kept that way due to the strict rules on what you can and can't do in the vicinity of the factory to protect the integrity of the chocolate. Highly recommend a visit if you ever get the opportunity.
Great tip! I absolutely plan to do so! Thank you! By the way: there are similar old housing concepts for factory workers in Germany. (for example: "Borstei" and "Fuggerer" named after the factory owner) These were housing facilities for the not so wealthy- nowadays it's hard to get into these wonderfully maintained housing blocks. They look like little, green villages, where time stands still, surrounded by a large, grey city. Luckily the buildings are under monument protection.
Load More Replies...Not for quite some time, sold out to Americans

I am happy to see this one, too! Finally we have a product(s) that's good: high quality and lots of fun. I am so tired associating Poland with catholic church and defeating communism. Go, Witcher! :)
Load More Replies...Tyskie?? More polish I think! Half of the brands are beer...
Havaianas.
We call them flip flops, simple and cheap. No idea who invented them been around forever.
Skoda.
Yes but it doesn't make it a german brand all of the sudden.

Whittakers
What are Whitaker's? Sorry for being curious, unfortunately never been to NZ before...
A very nice chocolate brand, yum! I reckon our brand to recognise should be bungee jumping as that was invented(edit: popularised/normalised) here by aj Hackett, but I don't think that's widely known either :(

Stella artois.
Terrible excuse for a beer to represent Belgium; no one even drinks it here! Should have gone with Duvel or a Trappist (monastery ale).
Stella is brewed by a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev - Budweiser's parent company.

KerryGold
Apparently the only butter from grass-fed cows. Good enough to put in your coffee.
Chupachups
I knew that the logo was made by Salvador Dali, but I realise that I did not know the country of origin of the brand.
Jollibee.
Roots
9gag.
9Gag is a website without hardly any moderators censoring the comments. You can read all sorts of cringey stuff on that site from undiluted racism, homophobia, misogyny, misandry and fascism to "good guys" reporting how they have been treated so bad to quite the opposite of all this. I'm sure Trump would have had many good days if he had known how to subscribe to this site.
Bic !
But it's one of the first French brands to succeed in the US and the rest of the world.

Lol nothing, the only thing I can think about is oil but that's not a brand.

My country is also not there but I'm not even sure what brand could be used that they know it abroad😅😅😅😅
Load More Replies...Unfortunately, we have some good brands but they are more known by those who share our culture. Because they are quite local or regional. One brand which is good and should be tried is Amul. I think Bollywood can be considered a brand... unsure..
I think most people outside of India would have heard of Tata.
Load More Replies...I think of the states and all I can come up with is old glory and a semi-automatic. It's unfortunate but accurate.
Not Whittakers (choc from nz), bungee jumping! Ì mean where else would have have a country far away from everyone and so bored we invented(edit: popularised/normalised) hurling off bridges with elastic tied to our legs XD
Special thanks to ACC - the law that made it all possible
