It's completely understandable why the presenters or someone watching would be shocked. However, the reactions, including from Jamie Foxx show just how ignorant people are about the condition. It has nothing to do with John "choosing" to say it, or reflecting language he uses at home or being racist. Part of the trigger is that it's the brain bringing up the worst possible thing you would want to say, and having no control over vocalising it. And this actually brings up an interesting debate on how it should be handled. John has been involved in numerous documentaries, so is there for a legitimate reason. Unless you ban people with tourettes from being public and shut then away, then they need to be able to exist in shared spaces. The level of ignorance shown even when it was explained he had tourettes shows there is a real need for visibility and education

Ooh, yes. My husband is only just starting to get this too. He agreed that of course a friend of our daughter's could come over after school in 20 minutes. He went back to work. I had to stop work, hoover, clean up and tidy (I'm working two jobs, day and night atm) and be there to answer the door, provide snacks, check they had their hats, scarves, gloves when they went out and that the friend had everything with her when she left after arranging a pick-up time with the mum. My husband would say it was not necessary to hoover and clean up but he's not the one that bears the social penalty for such things - it has been proven time and again that women bear the social penalty for an untidy/dirty home.
