The Flatiron Building is located about 20 blocks south on 23rd St. It's my favorite building in NYC. I used to tap the tip for good luck when I walked by every day. This is a much, much smaller building in Times Square. And it's where they drop the ball (as other have said).

we call these "flatiron buildings" in the US, they are designed to fill the area where 3 streets intersect, creating a triangle instead of the more common rectangle when two streets intersect, the first "flatiron building" is The Flatiron Building in New York City, designed by Chicago architect Daniel Burnham and built in 1902, named because of its shape being similar to an iron used for smoothing clothes. All similar shaped buildings in the US are generally referred to as flatiron buildings
