With technology evolving faster than ever before, the phenomenon of gaming culture is becoming bigger and more influential. It has easily infiltrated and reshaped pop culture; therefore, it should come as no surprise that it even extends into the realm of comics.

Luis Lee and Ana Gaby Perez are a pair of passionate gamers and animators who create hilarious comics about video games called Clueless Hero. This comic follows the adventures of a clueless hero inspired by Link, who is a silent protagonist. Besides this character, the authors also occasionally portray gamers and game developers, poking fun at their quirks.

So, if you are a part of gaming culture, Clueless Hero is one of the comics you should definitely get to know.

To learn more about the comics and the artists behind them, Bored Panda once again reached out to Luis and Ana. We asked them to tell us how they became friends.

“We met and became friends in college. After graduating, we started developing games with some other friends and that's where Clueless Hero was born. The idea was to develop a comic and eventually make a game out of it. Hopefully, we'll get our chance to develop a game sooner rather than later.”

We also were curious about the creative process when making this comic together. Luis and Ana shared their key steps from ideation to the finished product.

“We start out by thinking of ideas that we find fun or relatable and write them down on a list (which we are constantly updating every time a new idea comes up). At the beginning of the year, we go through the list and choose which of these ideas to sketch out. We individually work on our comics but from the initial sketches to the finishing touches, we are constantly bouncing off ideas and giving each other feedback. We share a similar humor and taste in games which I think is key to creating something we both are happy with.”

Both Ana and Luis are animators by profession and they shared that they both do everything: “We both write and draw, a comic each. This benefits us greatly as we can draw inspiration from our own gaming experiences and give each comic our personal touch.”

The artists also shared their biggest challenges in the creative process: “Since the start, we established some ground rules for our comic (having an unnamed silent protagonist, for example). This is essential to maintaining a coherent voice throughout the comic and it also pushes us to find creative ways to tell our jokes while sticking to these rules. I would say that's the biggest challenge on a weekly basis. Obviously, after several years, we've also struggled to find ways to keep the comics fresh from time to time. But the great thing about the gaming industry is its constant growth, which for us is an unlimited source of inspiration.”

Lastly, Luis and Ana replied about what they would like for people to take away from their comics: “If we manage to get a chuckle out of you then we have succeeded. This comic is based on our experiences while gaming and we definitely hope many find it relatable.”

“Thank you for reading and keep gaming!”

The real question is, why do the weak enemies continue to try to fight the overpowered hero and not just run the other way when they see him coming?
