They say beggars can't be choosers but not everyone got the message. Unfortunately, far too many people try to lowball you on Craigslist, constantly demand things of you they're not entitled to, and even complain when something they just got isn't good enough, even though it's free. Seriously.
There's a whole subreddit dedicated exclusively to these folks. It's called r/Choosingbeggars and since its creation in 2014, the online community has grown to a 2.3 million-big army, constantly shaming those who believe the world owes them just because they're living in it.
Loyal Bored Panda readers might remember that we've already covered this subreddit (here, here, and here), but it has featured so many new cases since our last publication, we just had to release a new one.

Sometimes they COULD afford the kids before they had them, now they cant. Life happens. Things happen. Situations occur. Money can be lost and life circumstances are not static. There are many who have gone from riches to rags and back again. Not defending this woman in particular, she simply sounds entitled. But not every person with kids who are struggling are doing so due to bad choices. Sometimes life just deals you a crummy hand.

Artists and just freelancers in general appear to be dealing with choosing beggars the most. Author Len Cristobal thinks their ridiculous offers sometimes come from what she calls distance.
“People rarely see artists, their sleeves rolled up and hunched over a desk, studying various elements of design, principles, software, methods, materials, trends, histories, and relevant industries in order to hone their craft, find opportunities where their skill set is needed, and produce sensible artwork,” Cristobal wrote. “There are people who believe that artists deserve low pay because their work does not require technical skills — as if art is produced solely by impulse, vanity, or some internal dissonance.”

There's a song going around TikTok that addresses this! The video usually shows the artist working on their craft while "It costs that much 'cause it takes me (freaking) hours. It costs that much 'cause I don't have superpowers! You need to pay for my skills 'cause exposure doesn't pay the bills! It costs that much 'cause it takes me (freaking) hours!" It cracks me up every time!!

Used to regularly donate toys to a local church that collected for the holidays but we were not members. They required toys be unwrapped and when we donated any kind of toy that required batteries we also included those. The church's policy was no questions asked. One day hubby was talking to a friend who had an acquaintance with her about the toy drive. Acquaintance said "oh we always go there and pick up some toys for the kids. They're free and they have so many, so what's the harm?". Found out her and her husband both had jobs and could afford toys, they were just adding to the list. What is wrong with people?

I lived next door to a single mom on welfare. A couple of times I fell for her poor me story and gave her food from my own fridge. Bags of fresh groceries. i worked a min wage retail job. I tried to be a good neighbor. I stopped helping her after we all took a trip to a second hand store one day ( her idea) and spent about an hour. She had her daughter trying on all these clothes and then show us. I ws all yeah get that . It looks good.. When it was time to leave I paid for my one small item and then waited for her to pay for her pile of clothes her daughter picked.. She stood there with a fuming red face and asked me if that was all I was paying for. Confused I said yes. She was pretty upset. She actually expected me to pay for the pile of girls clothes her kid tried on. WHAT ?? because I worked and seemed to have no issue paying bills etc and she was a single mom she just assumed I would pay for her. She expected the handout simply because she was poor. Never again.

I was walking into Goodwill with an expensive cat carrier and some woman said I should just give it to her instead. I had to tell her that giving it to Goodwill to sell is providing charity to people because the money Goodwill make goes towards programs and food banks. She did not get it.

But the subreddit r/ChoosingBeggars features many examples where scrooges seem to be aware of what they doing. Like the parents who use their kids to guilt-trip professionals, saying their family's holidays will be ruined if they don't get that $2,000 sofa for $75.
These acts might also have something to do with human nature. Psychologist and decision researcher Eva Krockow, Ph.D., for example, said people experience a pleasant high after receiving a freebie in an expensive world where we frequently have to pay even for visiting a public toilet.
I guess nobody will be able to avoid such clients while working in a people-oriented industry. So I guess the only thing we can do is make funny posts and laugh about them. Otherwise, all of that pain that comes from interacting with them would just be a waste.

Also the fact they actually took the time to ask them where they got the blankets,but not ask if they were ok! I was homeless once and this makes my heart hurt as it is a reminder of the disdain people can have. People can be homeless without it being their fault. For example,one man I knew lost his whole family in a fire and his house and had a complete breakdown and couldn't function anymore so ended up on the streets.Plus even if people are addicts it is a disease of the mind and something they can't control.

This one is a bit different. Hello Fresh is a subscription meal service. The ‘free gifts’ are part of the sign up promotion. You are paying for these ‘free gifts’ within your subscription fee, and getting something rubbish does annoy you. This is like being offered a free bottle of wine when you sign up to the gym for £60 a month and finding out that it is a £3.99 bottle of cheap rubbish.

Speaking of complimentary. I don't know if I will get mad or just laugh my a** off or both, at that time when me and my wife check-in in a hotel. It was a valentines day evening. They have a random complimentary promo or something like free roses, wine, stuff toys, etc. for couples on valentines day. Guess what we got? the etc.! - an exciting "1 hour complimentary access on internet wifi"! That a free wifi room we book! I didn't say any words and just go with it. I just feel like it would be much better if they didn't give that complimentary and said that all the items have been given away to others, or any reasons, it is understandable. I know it's free, but i feel like, it's a little off...? XD

I can kind of understand this. Just because people are poor and need free stuff does not mean they have to be thankful for anything/everything they have been given. Holy hell. I have seen some of the crap poor people are given... torn shirts, hoodies with the buttons cut off.. rotten food etc. and if they dare complain they are considered ungrateful. Yes, it's lovely to have things donated to you... but not just the crap that no-one else wants. Poor people are poor NOT inhuman. Please stop giving poor people your waste and garbage. This is awful I truly feel sorry for the artists that have to put up with this crap...I had an artist do a portrait for my beloved chihuahua that passed away...the charge was 25.00 usd. When I got my portrait it was SO amazing I sent him an extra 25.00 because I love it so much and felt it was worth the extra $. The artist was so nice he sent me a beautiful thank you card. I'd post a picture but I can't seem to do it from my phone

My 19 year old niece is an INCREDIBLE artist; she and I are VERY close and I wouldn't even dream of asking her for art for free. She offered to draw some Dragon Age stuff for me for free and I declined. She graduated college at 17, works full time, has her own flat and car...long story short, she's busy with life and life's expenses. I'd never ask anyone for anything free.

One of my best friends is an incredible professional artist... I've paid her for everything but birthday or holiday items she's given me as gifts. I would no more ask for it free than I would ask my lawyer friend to represent me for nothing, or any other professional for free stuff.

I must say, I do get a kick when people get shocked when I mention a price on my work. Idc if I'm not famous nor gone to university and studied art history, and cannot recreate the Sistine Chapel ceiling painting, nor have any level of skill close to it. If it takes me 3 weeks, that is time out of my life I could be painting something else for my own enjoyment or spending time doing my other hobbies. That is also money I'm spending on the materials, too, which comes out of my pocket initially.

I'm hoping to get a tattoo inspired by an artist's style (she doesn't take commissions or I'd pay $$$ for her to design the tattoo) and I'm willing to drop triple figures on her work so she's compensated for the inspiration and style. I used to be an artist (murals, etc.). My interior decorator "friend" offered a barter deal: I'd paint a design on her double doors, and she'd help decorate my bedroom. Sounded good, so I picked up some supplies and got to work. The following week, she brought me shopping for new bedding, talked me into getting this or that, whatever. At the register, I found out that I was expected to pay for everything! I mentioned our deal, and she looked at ME like I was crazy, asking, "What do you think my time costs?" I said, "What do you think MINE costs? I put in three days on your doors, you've invested two hours on a shopping trip!"

There is a resell market for excellent quality wood from decks and hardwood floors. Emphasis is on excellent quality, not partially rotted old ones. I have a friend owns a hardwood business. I was with him one time where he bought someone's ebony floor and used the boards for a client. Client was happy because it was half (like $50/sq ft vs $100+/sq ft) the cost but looked the same.

This is actually not a bad deal. It's a good sized room in a nice house. The woman doesn't need a nurse, just someone to help tidy, mow the lawn every few weeks and pick up some groceries and stuff. Shouldn't take more than 6-8 hours a week. There's a lot of entitled people out there who think their time is worth $500 an hour.

Child was 8 when we took a long weekend trip out of state. First one after I lost my husband, her father. We got a ride to the airport and there was an accident that backed things up. Barely made the flight and we couldn't get seated together, or even close. Both tickets were full price but this airline did not offer assigned seating for coach back then. Asked attendant if someone would be willing to switch with one of us so we could sit together. She asked one guy and he agreed but when he stood up he loudly announced "I have to switch seats because some broad wants to sit with her kid." I was embarrassed but thanked him profusely for switching. I was going to send him a drink, but he kept loudly b*tching about it to anyone who would listen for a long time. When we flew home, we were surprised to learn we were bumped up to first class. Thank you all you wonderful flight attendants.

My Zoe has to have a certain brand of kibble and it's $50.00 for an 8 POUND BAG! It's almost like owning a car; one can always afford the car but can you afford the upkeep and insurance? Indeed lets anyone post jobs on their site. I saw an ad for Home Depot. It links to a legit looking Home Depot careers web site with an application. I start to fill out the application when the questions become odd. Questions like mothers maiden name, bank account number/password, S.I N number . I stopped immediately and flagged the job post. It was still up days later so I contacted customer service. Still up 2 weeks later. Indeed is the absolute worst. They do not vet the job ads and scams and unrealistic nonsense like the above keep coming through.

On the way home I ordered from McDonald's and an older lady brought the food to my car, I asked her if she had grandchildren and she told me she had two and told me about them. A local family just got housing after being homeless. They asked very politely on nextdoor. for whatever people could spare. The outpouring of furnishings, good luck wishes and gift cards for Christmas gifts for the children was wonderful. It's all in how you ask.

I don't understand the whole having to bring a gift to a baby shower. I mean, if I have the money to get a gift or to make one I am sure to do that, even if that gift is just something nice from a dollar store. And I don't have kids myself so I have not needed to have a baby shower but still, there are people who can't afford to buy a gift and sometimes buying something from the dollar tree just doesn't feel like enough. I think the most imortant part about a baby shower is showing the person whom is having the baby shower that you are there for them and are happy for them and that you support them and their child. For example, my sister-in-law is about to have her baby shower and I told her right now I just don't have money to get her something that I really want to get her (though I will probably make her something) and she said she was perfectly fine with that and the imortance of her friends and family being there to support her is enough. Just my opinion.

I started babysitting when I was about 12. I probably had 5 different families that I sat for and they paid me around $3 an hour. This was in the 70's so that was a lot of money. I bought my own clothes and supplies for school with the money that I earned.

Minor compared to these, I had a close call with one CB last year. There was a game I really wanted someone was selling on FB Marketplace for $15. Now, I know I live out of the way for a lot of people and I know people know it's risky to meet up at personal addresses, so I offered to meet her somewhere public. She said she had to go to one area in town, anyways, and I could meet her there. Take note of that detail. It was the day I was going to meet up and I asked to confirm the price was still $15, she said yes. Then a little while later, about an hour before I had to leave for my bus (would have taken 2 bus rides to get to the location she would be at.) and she said she wanted me to pay her an extra $5 for the gas and went on how fair it would be to compensate her for having to drive all the way to that location. Now, $5 isn't exactly a huge, huge deal to some. But.. case in point, I ride the bus. $5 is less than it would cost me to go there and back home, with a transfer. I cancelle

This lady keeps asking really nit picky questions for three days. Finally buys it all. Like 3 hours later she messages mom to complain that some of the fabric IS from JoAnn Fabrics. Mom never said none of the fabric was from there, and it’s like lady you got a fantastic deal on this stuff, why are you messaging mom to complain that some of the fabric is from a store when you knew it was a mixed lot?? You’re not getting a refund, stfu.

And most of those posts here are so wasteful.. guy got free energy drink he doesn't like? Pour it out. Even tho he could give it to someone. Some person selling something says they would throw it in trash before selling for cheap.. People are too spoiled with consumptionism and capitalism
