We’ve all heard the age-old question: are humans inherently good or bad? That debate may never be settled, but there’s no denying the incredible acts of kindness happening all around us.

And some take it to a whole new level! Over on the subreddit r/chaoticgood, as the name suggests, users share good deeds done in playful, often unexpected ways. Think funny notes left in library books or flowers planted secretly in neglected park corners.

Below, you’ll find more of these wholesome moments and a chat with Brooke Tansley, author of Small Good Things.

At this point in history, internet access is almost considered a necessity. It really should be free…and I know that in some places outside the US, it actually is. But internet companies make too much $$ by privatizing it and making you pay more to “upgrade” the speed and coverage every year or so.

Even though the term ‘chaotic good’ implies not sticking to societal norms, the subreddit emphasizes that there are boundaries which need to be respected.

The mods, who oversee a community of 331K members, say that rule breaking should be achieved without cruelty or intimidation. By their definition, embracing chaotic good means valuing not just your own freedom and welfare, but everyone else’s.

Wish they would do that in South Africa. Our black rhino population is EXTREMELY endangered. BTW, if you go to the Kruger Park or another game park here, do NOT geotag your photos! Poachers can find the exact locations of the animals you photographed.

It’s a good measure to start with, but it doesn’t really change the fact that the people who want the horns are usually the ones paying for somebody to get the horns for them, not the ones doing the hunting. These people won’t care if their poacher dies, they’ll just pay another one until someone succeeds.

Did you hear what Cambodia did after the Khmer Rouge fell? The men who had been indoctrinated with communist ideology and had used violence weren't equipped for the civil society the new government wanted to build. So they hired ex-soldiers as game wardens, protecting the natural habitats, capable of killing poachers, giving them jobs, and not forcing them to spend all their time around people. They could slowly acclimatize to a peaceful society.

Goodness can be a transformative experience. Brooke Tansley, known for her roles as a TV & film producer, actress, and entrepreneur, told Bored Panda that kindness turned her life around.

“I was feeling like I was in a sad funk and I didn’t really know how to snap out of it. I woke up in the middle of the night remembering that it feels good to do good things for other people,” she shared. So, she thought about her next move.

At first, Brooke considered diving into a volunteering project, but with work and two little kids, she knew it’d be tough to maintain. Instead, she went for a more manageable approach: practicing small acts of kindness.

This happened in Utah. A right-wing school board in northern Utah started banning books, and a guy submitted the Bible based on the adultery, violence, sex, and death.

Yes, infanticide is not only mentioned in the Bible (Exodus and the Gospels) but that "song" that Boney M sang, "Rivers of Babylon"? The lyrics are from Psalm 137, which ends: "Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones." Yeah, they left that part out of the hit song.

My boss tells me a story of a very dedicated parking attendant that used to look after his and his friends' car whenever they went out to this one bar they liked. Says they always tipped him well, or brought him back a plate of food from wherever they went after partying. One cold winter night, they got plastered and parking man refused to let them drive. Ended up taking each of the guys to their houses and arranged the club to leave the car there overnight. Boss is pretty sure he saved their lives a couple of times from being stupid and young.

Hurt my cat, I will end you! I had a 70+ year old roommate/sublet who I discovered several weeks after the fact that she'd poisoned my Seal Point Siamese Cat, Gibby with antifreeze in his water dish! The ONLY reason I left her alive is I didn't want to spend the rest of my life in prison. How did I find out? She got drunk (this was a sober living house) and told me how she took care of the problem "My Cat"! I picked her up by the throat, slammed her head into the concrete block wall 2-3 times. I knew I was losing it, I truly wanted to murder her! So I squeezed her around the throat as hard as I could, told her she's better sober her a$$ up cause I was kicking her out and she'd better be gone before I left for work!

Brilliant move. But as a boomer who loathes that sort of assholery from anyone regardless of age, I chafe at your ascribing it to us. We are not a monolith. Many of us are still the liberals we were in the '60s and '70s. Fox isn’t news. It is objectively propaganda. People who don’t watch any news program at all are better informed than fox “news” watchers.

My friend's elderly father was watching a lot of Fox News, until he came to live with her. She blocked Fox News on their TV, and he ended up watching other news shows instead. He kept asking, "Why did I never hear about this before? Why didn't I hear about THIS? And This??"

A local salad shop had their pride flag stolen and thrown in a dumpster. The next day they painted a rainbow on the front of their shop. There's no ordinances about paint colors on buildings where I live so nothing anyone can do about it.

The villain in the story’s name is Haman. During Purim, when we read the story out loud in synagogue, whenever his name is mentioned, it’s tradition to make a lot of noise or use a noisemaker called a grager. We’re basically booing the villain. Also, he doesn’t show up until the third chapter. That’s when the fun starts.

“Those who do not share our genes” would have to be literal extraterrestrials because life on Earth has a common origin and thus we all share genes. The *most* one human to another could do is a 0.1% variation between them.

For those wondering, whenever the H name (the name of the dude who wanted to commit genocide against Persian Jews, name's H A M A N) is mentioned, you either shake your grogger (noisemaker) or shout BOO to drown it out. Then we eat a treat - it's delicious, hamentashen are great - which in Hebrew means "[BOO]'s ears." And there are costumes. TL;DR: Purim is great if you don't mind noise (if you do I have bad news) and I just wanted to mention that.

Purim is fun. As kids, we all dressed up for a huge party at the synagogue. Absolutely amazing memories. There was a competition for best costume. My sister won a really nice oil Hannukah menorah and a beautifully decorated Torah.

Reminds me, in the UK a while ago a man K***ed 2 young girls, like not even in their teens. He had a history of a similar thing. All the local Manchester d**g dealers collectively got together and offered 50k for the first person to put him in the ground. This was like 10years ago or so, the money offered keeps going up, and the guy lives in solitary all his life. Keeps popping up in the news that he's in hospital because he's been attacked, injured, hurt.... Makes me smile every time I see it in the news, I really hope the kids family get something from knowing the UK justice system caught him, but it's locals that are making the scumbag hurt. Also heard that the amount on offer now is even tempting prison guards to look the other way

I had a friend who decided to get clean, and told her dealer. They made sure she was blacklisted all over town. The kicker? He tabulated how much she had spent in the past year. Nearly $50,000. He'd give her back a hundred dollars every month she stayed clean.

One of the women I was in prison with was there for dealing d***s. While in prison, she was terrified of breaking rules or getting in trouble, even the very minor rules that everyone broke. For instance, you couldn't go into another inmate's room. Any time someone was caught visiting inside their friend's room, the staff member would just tell them to get out. No yelling, no incident report, or anything. Abby refused to enter another person's room. One day, I asked her how she could sell d***s, as breaking rules freaked her out so badly. She answered, "I did it in my garden. I was comfortable there."

In my mid 20s and I left an abusive relationship and ended up living in an absolutely not cool part of town. The main dealer in the area decided I was cool and put out the word that no one could touch me and I was to be protected. No one was allowed to court me, buy me food, give me gifts, even help me carry bags (grooming) Nothing. Blanket "Do not approach, and don't let anyone else" 100% that guy saved me.

Around here we all knew women who lived with their GF or a man who lived with his BF. It was acceptable & private what they did behind closed doors. But if your parents warned you that someone was "kinda funny" it scared you to death & you avoided them. Then again, back in the day, our fathers were hard working & hard drinking types. If any of those types messed with you, they'd be sorry. No cops involved. Those people were molesters.

The pastor's name is Greg Locke and his church isn't far from where I live. I heard him preach when he was just a young man starting out. He was traditional, but wasn't so off the rails then. You know the saying "sex sells" or "if it bleeds, it leads"? There is big money in appalling people. That is why it's called "shock value". Greg Locke is the extreme Christian version of this.

Different cultures. The UN considers combat aged males as 15 to 50 years of age. Worked with the Iraqi military who had 15 year old soldiers. We did have families come thru as refugees that the Iraqi soldiers told us that they were perverts or religious nutjobs. In that part of the world there is a common saying: "Girls are for babies, boys are for fun". It's not their religion that promotes that. It's a carry over from the ancient Greeks.

Nice to know: The Latin word salarium means salary or 'salt ration'. This is because they used salt as a means of payment and exchange. For example, the Romans paid soldiers and officials with salt. Salt was then called 'white gold' because salt allowed you to preserve food for longer.

I'd give that caretaker about 10 seconds to get outside before cracking that window. Cars can heat up so fast! Even a few seconds delay can end up with less than favourable results. Don't leave people or animals in cars in the heat people.

Another study found that people who regularly helped others felt more confident, capable, and fulfilled.

Amazing how some states allow conversion therapy, even for minors, and these same states (and others) firmly believe children are entirely too young to know anything about sex. One thing their religion certainly teaches is blindness to irony.

I feel the same. Sure, I don't like the ones who do it dangerously around people and cars, where they're not supposed to, such as in malls. But most kids are at the skate parks and empty parking lots skateboarding. It's an impressive skill. I've tried just stepping onto a skateboard and immediately falling on my a*s a few times. It takes some serious balance and finness.

We live in a small town with a skate park. My kids are young and really can't do alot of jumps or tricks but they try, and when its empty they like trying to run up or roll down the ramps. Whenever more experienced kids show up I make sure we give them a wide berth. And every time the older kids have responded it was okay and they shared the space and showed patience for they younger ones. In fact, they usually wind up teaching them new tricks.

I thought a simple solution to the Confederate statue issue was to leave them be and charge $5 to spray paint them. The city can then use the money to maintain the park. And people would have a fun emotional outlet to regularly vent their anger at racism.

Sounds incredble, or it might be just incompetence. In my city, there is a statue of Carlos IV of Spain on horseback. When the statue was in need of maintenance, city officials had it "cleaned" and accidentally corroded the horse's legs. The statue is of historical importance and the work of famous artist, so the city had the pay to the nose for experts to restore it.

I've always said that those who are critical of the police (yes, like every other job/career there are bad ones, but don't tar all Police as bad when they aren't.) should have signs in their homes saying that whatever happens they don't want the Police contacted. e.g. see someone breaking in? Just go on your way. See the homeowner being assaulted? Don't worry, they don't want the Police involved.

the people who truly want police as an institution dismantled and defunded aren't usually in favor of there simply being NO police anymore. it's more that the funding and personnel would be vastly more useful for many of the things police are called to do that really shouldn't be anything they deal with, like mental health crises and d**g issues. if someone actually has a weapon and is threatening people, call the police. otherwise, there are other individuals who aren't broadly armed and extremely twitchy who could help.

When I was in highschool we had this truly idiotic uniform code where us girls had to wear light summer dresses for a set part of the year regardless of the weather. We'd be standing around outside the classrooms freezing to death and lunchtime was even worse. So one day I brought in a big, thick warm doona from off my bed. I instantly gained three new best friends. (The stupid rule was eventually changed, thank goodness).

i put extra cheese on all the tacos and mexican pizzas when i worked at taco bell. and more tomatoes, when applicable. at the time the rules were something like "5 pieces of diced tomato is approximately 1/4 oz" or whatever and that was paltry portioning.

I lived on a dirt road, right at the end of our paved driveway there were so many potholes you couldn't avoid them. Since I was doing some landscaping I started filling these in; at first people didn't understand why I was watering the dirt down; several middle finger salutes later they realized why, apologized, brought me bottles of water! No matter what I did, every breakup (spring for you Lower 48's) they'd appear again.

A friend of mine recently went to Vietnam invited by some new girlfriend he has. After the trip l learned that it was a luxury trip all paid by the insurance company she works for...as a reward for filling their quotas. 30 something people at top tier hotels and restaurants for 9 days. They even had an event to show next year's trip (to Shanghai), to motivate them to keep squeezing their clients. I didn't hold back and told my friend that was disgusting.

Look up the case of Nataline Sarkisyan. An HMO murdered her in the name of profit. They refused to approve her surgery, but they also refused to deny it. The family could appeal a "No" decision, but by saying, "we haven't decided", they could not legally do anything. They finally "approved" it, AFTER she was too far gone and her condition was terminal. [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Nataline_Sarkisyan ]

the point of this satire, for the people here on BP who don't understand, is that the normal post about this kind of thing, where a child needs a wheelchair or a prosthetic but they're so expensive, and the high school robotics team helps out by 3d printing one, usually has sensible people going "that's great, but it sucks that health insurance is so godawful that this is the solution".

The number one period tracking app is owend by a right wing Christian man. Many women have given up the pill for rhythmic birth control which is far from effective. There is a lot of misinformation on the pill being bad for you spread all over tic toc. And with the ban on abortions in some states there is a lot of women in a difficult situation.

Scalping products has been out of hand for a long time! I remember when the movie Frozen came out, It was the first movie my 4 year old daughter saw in a theater. She really wanted and Elsa doll. They were $6.50 at walmart and target but people would show up and buy them out whenever they were stocked. They were as high as $50 on ebay. Insanity.

Some years back the Stones (if i remember correctly) were performing in a half empty Hallenstadion in Zürich and THEY WERE PISSED! The venue was sold out however, some aßholes had bought a ton of tickets and later tried to resell them at ridiculously high prices, they couldn't resell them and in the end the concert hall was only half full. The result is now when you try to buy tickets for a group you only can buy two 🤬 and good luck if you try to buy tickets for a group for a really popuar band (like AC/DC). No chance that you get enough tickets 😭

back in the mid 90's i worked at a toy store and we sold holiday barbies. they came in causcasian and african american versions. usually we got 18 of them and the scalpers went crazy for them. except we waited at the roll up gate at the store entrance (mall) with 18 numbered slips of paper for the people lined up before opening. handed out THROUGH the gate so if they didn't line up in an orderly fashion there would be no dolls that day because my boss was all about making customers behave. and no number, no doll. number 1 picks first and so on. since they usually came in a 12/6 split, and almost everyone was a white "reseller", by the time we got to number 13 the vitriol began to fly because we didn't have "the right color doll, i can't resell that!" cool, cool, lady. walk away then. i guarantee you i will sell this doll to some happy kid in the next half hour if you don't want it.

What people do not understand is that must student loan payers have paid the initial amount of loans over and over again. The loans that the young college kids get become predatory loans and they BURY the payee with interest fees. I went to nursing school in 1993. Total loans was about $8,000. I paid faithfully for years. It ballooned up to owing over $20, 000! The loan was paid. The school got paid right off the bat with the loans. It was the lenders who wanted to fill their pockets.

FYI the loans are not being paid by taxpayers. The people with the loans are taxpayers who have NOT PAID them off yet. There is no money taking from the government is it money owed TO the government. I owed $15000 and now I owe $32000 after 15 years of deferment because I can't seem to make enough money to even qualify to make a payment, yet I can't get any loans because the student debt damages my credit score. BTW I have always worked 2-4 jobs at a time my entire adult life and still make barely a living wage.

Wat to cheat and lie again, Democrats. You just can't win on your ideas, so you must lie, steal, and cheat to achieve anything. Then you say your opponents are actually doing (they aren't) while you continue to cheat and lie.

One of the benefits of living in Colorado is the requirement that a job must include a pay range! I've gotten so many sketch looking job posts taken down from indeed because they don't have the salary range posted and they're sending it to me in Colorado. Small wins I guess.

I’m assuming that “date” is a euphemism for casual s ex through, like, Tinder or something similar. These are guys would be more interested in just hooking up than going on an actual date. The entirety of their interaction would probably be one or two conversations to convince him to get vaccinated instead of actually building up trust over a period of time…that would take too long. She could casually inquire and convince multiple guys over one or two days through a site for casual hookups and, while it’s deceptive, it’s hardly a huge betrayal of trust if she barely knows more than their name, age, general location, vaccination status and, like, favorite color (probably blue).

There are rules for the road for pedestrians and drivers. If the walk light is on, pedestrians have the right of way, if not, the drivers do. I hope they are following those rules. If there are no lights, and no stop signs, then the pedestrians need to wait until it’s safe to cross. When I’m driving through a parking lot, since I’m going slow already, I will stop to let pedestrians go. Especially if the weather is terrible, since I’m in my nice, comfy car, and they are just trying to get to theirs (or to the store or bus stop.)

There are legitimate reasons a driver can miss seeing someone. Most drivers aren't pricks, but the few who are tend to be very noticeable. Please pay attention when you cross the road, as it keeps everyone safe.

I'm a pedestrian and I do this too. Part of my male privilege I guess, but if someone hits me, it's really gonna damage their car. Especially people who try to make a light and then sit in the crosswalk. I walk in front of them so they have to sit there even if traffic starts moving

i'm not much of a pedestrian due to disabilities, but when driving i use my horn, if someone's tailgating i make sure to go EXACTLY the speed limit and no faster, and if someone's doing something against the law but not immediately dangerous (think not using headlights on a rainy day, not using turn signals) i usually mutter rude things under my breath and/or do the both hands palm up like "wtf dude?". kudos to the hostile pedestrianism though, what a good idea!

I keep trying to understand NFT and all I can conclude is they are scammers selling stardust. I mean unless you buy something that has never been on the internet, it's the same as buying a star to name... I mean how do you stop someone else from buying the same star?

If you remember a while back, there was NFTs everywhere, with people getting really protective over it. However you could just copy them by right clicking on them with a mouse! So this person did that 10,000 times, then made a collage of somebody right clicking on a mouse (what they did) as a way of ridiculing NFT investors
