One may think a dystopia is just a trope of science fiction writing. Outlandish possibilities of human or not-so-human realities, where all that we fear becomes an inescapable fact of daily life. Again, it’s just fiction, right? Well, sometimes the present is a lot more disturbing than meets the eye.
The “Boring Dystopia” subreddit has been sharing posts that show just how broken the matrix is, or, mayhaps, the fact that one of those is just a matter of imagination, as a completely controlled environment would not allow for this much chaos. How did we end up here? Your guess is as good as mine. How do we get out is the question we need to start asking.
As you scroll through this list, make sure to upvote the worst of the worst that reality has to offer, and leave some comments below, and if you’re craving some more bitterness to further ruin your day, here is another article for you. Now let’s get into it.

If we are to consider all of the things in life that are looming over us—global warming, the housing crisis, rising inflation, wars, famine, natural disasters, overpopulation, etc.—we’ll very quickly get overwhelmed by the increasingly blank picture that the future paints for us. So we run. We look the other way.
But maybe our avoidance of the burning issues at hand is what’s caused it to get this bad in the first place. So today, let’s touch on just the tip of the iceberg of the dystopian present day we are living in. It may not seem that bad! But the more you read the posts shared by the subreddit r/boringdystopia, the more you may realize how bad we’ve let things get. And yet, it’s not even that interesting, all things considered.

And as someone from this state it fudging infuriates me. A child at that age risks never properly developing from carrying a fetus. Furthermore we are a state with poor health infrastructure with several hospitals that have closed. We have a government that refuses to expand Medicaid access. Even though RSA(retirement systems of Alabama ( pension plan for public sector employees) endorses it and furthermore it's no one's right to tell people who are capable of getting pregnant what to do with our bodies. Also a twelve year old can't consent to sex so that child will be imprisoned more harshly than a fudging RaPist.As Tupac once said since a man can't make one he has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one. Lets see the bad country: Loads of crazed religious, and various sects of the main religions as well. Mass coverage of crazed religious leaders shown on TV even. Objectifying women. Handcuffed during traffic stops. Beaten by police. Migrants deported, treated badly. Disapproval of "other" genders, relationships etc. Abortions frowned on or banned. Women murdered, beaten by partners frequently. No medical treatment unless you can pay. Extreme wealth discrepancies: the very rich, the very ;poor. Little knowledge of other countries living conditions, customs or even geography. No female rulers Justice difference between rich and poor. High rates of imprisonment. Long sentences. Death penalties. Extreme ideas of feminine beauty. Everyday violence and shootings common. Now which countries is that?

Actually I am betting that even in the Middle Ages things were not this draconian. Defining an early pregnancy as a "baby" appears to be a recent development. I haven't traced it all the way back to the Middle Ages, but when the US was founded abortion was legal. It wasn't considered murder until the pregnancy was far along. The cut off point was something known as "quickening", the point at which a mother could feel the baby move. The original laws outlawing abortion in the US had nothing at all to do with the fetus, and was not considered a moral issue. Rather it was a safety issue because the herbs used at the time were killing women. It only became a moral issue later, and when it was used to smear early feminists. Ironically at thst time, feminists were working on other issues, not advocating for abortion.

I have very little tolerance for organized religion, but what people need to accept as fact is that there are fanatics in all religions, and that's what makes them intolerable.
Generally, I think that it's abortion as a means of birth control, that is what is objected too. Cases such as this 12 year old are brought up time, and time again. Just what is the real percentage of abortions for this reason, or something similar? The REAL numbers, not the ones that politicians want us to believe? If you've ever, ever, held an infant that was born too soon too live, you just might understand the other side of this issue. Those are real people, not just a glob of cells.

It's absolutely true and even if the courts and law enforcement won't enforce it, medical professionals are hesitant to perform abortions out of fear that it will be. So the problem still exists. Women and girls who are forced to remain pregnant when they can't or don't want to be.

Nobody uses abortion as birth control. That's just not something that happens. Ever. If someone has had numerous abortions, they are almost certainly being abused. Also, it's literally NOBODY'S job to gatekeep what qualifies as a "real need" to seek an abortion for someone else. The coping mechanisms that come with escapism can be destructive and unhealthy, even in the short term. Cheap alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, overeating, endless mind-numbing activities, and easily available credit cards that lead to holidays, mindless purchases, and debt are just a few of the ways people choose to avoid the problems they face.
As stated by Amanda Dacquel, when we avoid, we live on a repeat loop, until we hit a wall at full speed, with a poster on it that says “the real world.” Responsibilities will catch up to us in one way or another, so it’s best to use the tool of escapism in small increments to help restore our batteries rather than numbing us away from existing in the chaos that is life.

Meeting up with your friends instead of blowing them off to play a video game, for example, is essentially substituting one positive experience for another. Just make sure the real-life thing is something you at least think you will enjoy, otherwise it could send you crawling back to escapism. Furthermore, realizing what you’re trying to escape from and why is key to grounding yourself.

Someone posted a photo of their itemised maternity bill from a US hospital on another forum a while back-it included a $50 charge for "skin to skin care." Skin to skin is literally putting the naked baby onto the mother or father's bare chest. It's meant to help with temperature regulation, and is alleged to help soothe the baby immediately after birth, but its not a medical procedure. Mum picks up the baby, puts it on her chest, and the hospital charges $50 for a midwife to watch? It's utterly ludicrous. The American healthcare system is beyond a joke.

As European with friends in the US it makes me sad and angry, too. And while we're still better off in Europe in terms of healthcare/support of people with low income etc, income and wealth inequality and all the problems associated with it is growing here as well. Sadly, we (or at least the politicians) are quite arrogant when it comes to the situation in the US instead of trying to implement measures that prevent further inequality so we don't go down that road. Which, I suppose, at least partly shows that many decisions here are also driven by corporate lobbyism - just a bit more covert.

Reading this post was disturbing & it should be. The 300 million who live in the USA are the only people who can make things better. By educating ourselves about each candidate running for political office at every level & voting for those who will make good changes. There's an old Soviet joke with people of a bunch of different nationalities looking at a painting of Adam and Eve and saying how they must be their nationality. The punchline being "they have no clothes, no shelter, only an apple to eat, and are being told this is paradise. They must be Russian." This joke applies more and more to the US ever day.

The fact that kids who can't even f*****g drive are being told that all of this is theirs to fix and we've just accepted it is b******t. I'm 13 and I'm already tired of fighting for basic human rights. I just want to be able to live, but unfortunately it's either waste my life fighting the system with nothing substantial changing or let the world destroy any life I might have. I no longer have sympathy for a country whose citizens don't understand that taxes pay for services and that guns are dangerous to have in a society in that quantity without proper cultural controls or main stream safety training. Americans don't seem to care about mass shootings. And who gets killed, if they did laws would change. A person can live without any guns. A complete ban on firearms would positively effect society. Yet corporations control the laws now.
