I am a photographer, I've been shooting for a long time now, but decided to get into colorizing years ago. I've always thought time travel would be fun, but changing the course of time is a pain, and it's just not worth it.

When I colorize, I'm a time traveler—seeing the up-close detail and filling in the color. My finished pieces will look as if I went back in time and shot it with my own camera. Many of them have the look of a classical painting.

This group of pictures is just New York City. Some of these buildings are gone, but you can still find some of them now.

I think that's the most prominent ad for spark plugs that I've seen in my life) But the cars are just amazing!

I believe the best part of your work here is retaining the city smudge 'gritty' look on the buildings and paint. Notable up by "The New" on the building. Excellent artistic interpretation and attention to pixel blending.

In this instance the black and white one gives more of that rainy day feeling. In my opinion anyway.

It is nicely done, but for me these are more "art" then "historically correct". There was not so much color these days, and in a lot of photo's a blue sky with clouds was added.

I will agree with the colorizer's addition of the sky features. One of the limitations of film photography is that some elements of an image will always be under- or over-exposed. In these cases, the photographer was interested in the street scene, and the sky was completely washed out. The original photographer could have captured "high dynamic range" like a modern digital camera, but it would have required taking multiple images in quick succession, and stitching them together later on. The figures in the lower right are underexposed, the awnings and sky are overexposed, etc.

The contrast is gone in this one. The stones of the street should shimmer, and not in this "brown light"

Incandescent lamps cast a pretty yellowish light. The shine may be gone, but the color probably isn't too far off.

This is all great work. However, some colors are too intensive on some of the photos for my taste, so it looks sometimes more comic-like than realistic. But cool post! Thanks Mike
