Trolls Call A Photo Of Joe Biden And His Son ‘Creepy’, People Respond With Similar Pics To Shame Them
The love between a dad and his son is a beautiful thing. And no troll on the internet can ruin it. When an artistic photo of former Vice President Joe Biden holding and kissing his son Hunter on the cheek surfaced on the internet, right-wing commentator and TV host John Cardillo criticized the fatherly expression of love and called it ‘creepy.’
However, the internet was quick to respond in the most beautiful way. Liz Plank, journalist and author of ‘For the Love of Men: From Toxic to a More Mindful Representation,’ invited the men of Twitter to share photos of them being held by their dads. Hello! I’m a conservative and a Christian and don’t understand why this is supposed to be offensive. I always kissed my dad and hugged him into adulthood, and after he dies I’m 2017 don’t regret anything! If you’re a Christian and you have a problem, then remember that God desires to hold us, John rested against Jesus breasts at the last supper, “greet each other with a holy kiss.” If anyone has a problem with this then there is something deeper with regard to their own uncomfortableness with human touch.

My dad never hugged me. He was an alcoholic that would verbally and physically abuse me. He hated me. My mother was emotionally distant and killed herself when I was 16. She never hugged me or told me she loved me. I don’t hug people. I don’t feel things like I should. I wish I could be like other people, laughing, loving, and enjoying things but I don’t. I just go through the motions. I know it’s how I was raised. I wish I had parents that loved me and expressed it like these two. This isn’t creepy or wrong. How I was raised is wrong.

I'm in my 7th decade as a male on this earth, and these images bring a flood of tears to my face. How absolutely lucky these males are, my father hated me. I was one of five children, but the first born son. My grandparents(fathers parents) being immigrants from France and Greece just after WWl, worshipped the first born son. They told me it was tradition.My father told me once when I was fourteen, that he and my mother would have had a great life if not for us kids. I wish I could have experienced the love these men have for each other. It's beautiful.

Tom Nichols, senior adviser to The Lincoln Project, writes on USA Today that the photo of 77-year-old Biden and his 50-year-old son might seem “awkward,” but it’s moving.
“Even strangers to these men would know what it means. All of us, after all, were once children. In this case, to know the circumstances in which it was taken is to know that it is a picture full of pain, love, forgiveness, and acceptance, and to look at it for even more than a moment is to experience at least some of those emotions, especially in the memory of our own parents or children,” Nichols writes, alluding to the fact that Biden stood by his son during his struggles with drug abuse and other troubles.

I lost someone who I didn't see for nearly a year because of COVID. By the time I finally got a test and planned a safe way to travel home without exposure, it was too late. He was already in the hospital where we couldn't see him. It breaks my heart. I could have gone months before if I had just planned. But we always think we'll have more time. My advice is to make a plan to safely see your loved ones. Get tested, find a safe way to travel without risking exposure, or plan to quarantine and test on arrival. You can make it happen and you will deeply regret it if you don't.
According to Nichols, the way that right-winger Cardillo reacted to the photo shows how his sense of masculinity has become corroded and shows his inner insecurity.
“More accurately, it is a child’s view of masculinity. Come on, Dad, quit it, guys don’t kiss. This is the insecurity of the boys who did not learn that to accept a father’s embrace is part of becoming a man,” Nichols explains.
He adds that males (not men) like Cardillo are “to be pitied” because they might have had troublesome family relationships that led them to have a “terrified” and “embryonic male identity of a small child.”

Listen. Joe Biden’s first wife and baby daughter were both killed in a car accident right after he was elected to Congress for the first time, in 1972. The two boys survived but were injured, and Biden took his oath in the hospital where they were being treated. Then 30+ years later he loses one of those boys to brain cancer. If Joe Biden is extremely open and demonstrative about his love for his children, considering the amount of loss he’s experienced, he has every good reason to be—-and those who think it’s improper can go f**k themselves.

Boy right there with you. My dad was comfortable in his male self and role of catholic dad to eight kids who he hugged and kissed. When my oldest brother lost his 8 month old son to meningitis my Dad as well as my Mom held him in their arms and cried with him over their loss. I remember my Dad holding my brother in a strong hug with his lips on brothers head while my brother moaned how quick the sickness took Robbie, I watched my fathers eyes bring with tears the ran into my brothers hair. Two fathers grieving deeply together.....I will take that sad loving memory to my grave. Also the tears of the big police sgt who tried to help with CPR when Robbie died on the way to the doctors. It happened so fast it ripped through his little body so fast in six hours of getting a fever he was dead. Let us also take that as a reminder with COVID how quickly disease can rip through one and leave others whole. God bless all loving parents and cops who care and fair.

I don't have a pic of this moment, but I will never forget and neither will my husband. I had been divorced and my 3 sons were desperate for a dad. I started dating my now husband and he easily took over the dad position. We still hadn't married yet and the youngest' ball got caught in a tree. The boyfriend reached up and knocked it down and the youngest said "That's my dad!" to the neighbors watching. At that point I wasn't going to let this man get away from me. Married 35 years now.

A few years ago, the band U2 came out with an album that had a photo of one of the members holding hugging his son and they were both shirtless. I didn't find that creepy and I don't find this photo of Joe Biden creepy. What I do find creepy is the fact that President Trump has said that he would sleep with his daughter if they weren't related. I also find it creepy that people dislike Joe Biden so much that they try to find the negative in everything that he does. I sometimes hug my mother when we are at work and no one finds that creepy. Loving your child is not creepy. Finding fault in everything that a politician that you don't like is.

Fortunately, most people all over the world is normal, which means that dads hug their sons and daugthers with love, embrace and kiss them and take care of them just as moms do (and nobody would criticize women for kissing and embracing their kids) . Men and women do the same things concerning their offspring. That's normality. The abnormal, the inmoral is what is not the rule. Is what must be punished. While the other posters show genuine affection between fathers and sons, Hunter’s photo is wired. It looks like a genuine hug from Joe, but Hunter is not reciprocating or participating in the mutual hug. Instead, his eyes are on the photographer, and his expression seems to say, “Are you getting this? This is your chance for a great photo op.”

My Dad was never very demonstrative toward my brother (even though he was the favorite) because he grew up in that whole "toxic masculinity" culture. He wasn't really all that comfortable with physical affection period, to be honest. Fast forward to April of 2014, when he found out he had stage 4 lung cancer. He couldn't hug or kiss ANY of us enough. He passed away on August 18, 2014 after a (thankfully) brief period of time.

I don't think it's the cheek-kiss that's inappropriate, it's the weird death-stare from Hunter while it's going on that makes it creepy. Biden has done a fair few creepy things in his time at the top though, just as weird as Trump fancying his daughter, at least she's of legal age! Boy right there with you. My dad was comfortable in his male self and role of catholic dad to eight kids who he hugged and kissed. When my oldest brother lost his 8 month old son to meningitis my Dad as well as my Mom held him in their arms and cried with him over their loss. I remember my Dad holding my brother in a strong hug with his lips on brothers head while my brother moaned how quick the sickness took Robbie, I watched my fathers eyes bring with tears the ran into my brothers hair. Two fathers grieving deeply together.....I will take that sad loving memory to my grave. Also the tears of the big police sgt who tried to help with CPR when Robbie died on the way to the doctors. It happened so fast it ripped through his little body so fast in six hours of getting a fever he was dead. Let us also take that as a reminder with COVID how quickly disease can rip through one and leave others whole. God bless all loving parents and cops who care and fair.

I feel like if my dad had received more affection from his father, he would have been a better father himself. I think it's sad that people try to make parental relationships into sexual ones. Internal homophobia has stopped many men from showing affection, when they needed to show more.

If these were moms-and-daughters.... would anyone find it creepy? Yes? No? Reasons? And if it's creepy for father-son why? I'm pretty sure my dad woudl've hit sons twice as hard as he hit his daughters... So I find it lovely to see men willing to openly show love to sons.

I don't have a pic of this moment, but I will never forget and neither will my husband. I had been divorced and my 3 sons were desperate for a dad. I started dating my now husband and he easily took over the dad position. We still hadn't married yet and the youngest' ball got caught in a tree. The boyfriend reached up and knocked it down and the youngest said "That's my dad!" to the neighbors watching. At that point I wasn't going to let this man get away from me. Married 35 years now.

A few years ago, the band U2 came out with an album that had a photo of one of the members holding hugging his son and they were both shirtless. I didn't find that creepy and I don't find this photo of Joe Biden creepy. What I do find creepy is the fact that President Trump has said that he would sleep with his daughter if they weren't related. I also find it creepy that people dislike Joe Biden so much that they try to find the negative in everything that he does. I sometimes hug my mother when we are at work and no one finds that creepy. Loving your child is not creepy. Finding fault in everything that a politician that you don't like is.

Had a discussion once where a woman claimed that parents who kiss their children on the lips are incest-approving pedophiles. Told her that I was sorry that she sexualised even the most pure connection between parents and their children and that her sex-focused view on things could be helped if she'd talk to a therapist. Got some angry DMs calling me a pervert, insulting me and "threatening me" that I go to hell along side my mom. Send her a pic of my mom giving me a kiss. Got blocked. Good day, my Mom and I laughed our asses of that evening. Fell asleep on her shoulder. Lovely evening. She has always been the most important person in my life like... she is my mom ffs. She raised me, taught me to be a proper human being. People seeing something dirty or sexual in that are sick in their head.

Fortunately, most people all over the world is normal, which means that dads hug their sons and daugthers with love, embrace and kiss them and take care of them just as moms do (and nobody would criticize women for kissing and embracing their kids) . Men and women do the same things concerning their offspring. That's normality. The abnormal, the inmoral is what is not the rule. Is what must be punished. Nobody should shame another people for showing love for their children.

While the other posters show genuine affection between fathers and sons, Hunter’s photo is wired. It looks like a genuine hug from Joe, but Hunter is not reciprocating or participating in the mutual hug. Instead, his eyes are on the photographer, and his expression seems to say, “Are you getting this? This is your chance for a great photo op.”

I worry that the USA's fear and judgement over male affection will transfer to my country where thankfully men can still be affectionate with their family and friends (kisses, hugs, hand holding, dancing together, etc) without it being seen as sexual.

My Dad was never very demonstrative toward my brother (even though he was the favorite) because he grew up in that whole "toxic masculinity" culture. He wasn't really all that comfortable with physical affection period, to be honest. Fast forward to April of 2014, when he found out he had stage 4 lung cancer. He couldn't hug or kiss ANY of us enough. He passed away on August 18, 2014 after a (thankfully) brief period of time.

Why is one party so obsessed with sex and genitals as if they’re pure and should rule over others - consenting adults - who do what they do and... if we are all equal, they should never get to rule over the bodies of strangers (women). Doing so makes us less of a full person. Not having it. Truth is, this is all show and snake oil. It works for their base. It’s so creepy that they do this. I don't think it's the cheek-kiss that's inappropriate, it's the weird death-stare from Hunter while it's going on that makes it creepy. Biden has done a fair few creepy things in his time at the top though, just as weird as Trump fancying his daughter, at least she's of legal age! You look at all the pics here and find me one that looks creepy like that Biden one...
