My son absolutely loves this film. I think it helps him verbalise how he is feeling as that is something that is very hard for him. He really relates to it. His speech and language therapist has taught him the coloured zone for emotions and this film ties in with that.

I was never expecting my 9 yo to be sobbing so hard with an animated film. Tbh, many adults were teary-eyed too.

Another thing I noticed about this movie is that Reilly's parents emotions are all the same gender as they are, which implies then, as Reilly's are a mix, that she could be gender fluid or something, just a theory

According to the writer, the emotions are a mix as a child because of how diverse the childhood mind is-they become the same gender as they get older.

I also heard that in the mother sadness in charge evolved to make her compassionate, and anger in dad made him more determined or driven to succeed

One underrated part of learning more and more movie easter eggs is that you can mildly amuse (or annoy) someone watching something for the first time. In some cases, this behavior has become so common that it actually spawns its own memes.

For example, fans of the second Lord of the Rings film, the Two Towers, will generally bombard new viewers with the fact that actor Viggo Mortensen broke a toe in real life when he kicked a helmet on screen. His cry of pain is completely real and the director, Peter Jackson decided to simply leave it in the film.

What sets apart a casual fan and a true fanatic is the knowledge that this was in some ways the least of the injuries suffered on set. Actor Sean Astin stepped on a piece of glass and punctured his foot when wading in a river scene, requiring him to be evacuated via helicopter from their remote shooting location in New Zealand.

I love the actors who are so well known in serious roles doing comedy (when they do it well). It's also great when you see behind the scenes stuff and they look like they're just having a blast doing it too. Lance Reddick (the concierge from John Wick among others) is another one who has done the most stupid animated comedy (Paradise PD and Farzar) but sounds like he had fun doing it.

Given the practical effects and frequent stunts, it might not be surprising to learn that most actors in the Lord of the Rings films suffered at least some kind of injury. Orlando Bloom broke a rib falling off a horse, while others chipped teeth and received all sorts of bumps and bruises while filming the battle scenes.

Fun fact! Jason Isaacs dramatized more abuse towards Draco than the books ever included because, in his own words, " I read the books and watched the first movie and he was just such a horrible little toe rag. I thought I needed to give people an explanation" People fan girling after Draco are fangirling Tom Felton. Draco Malfoy was a horrible human being with no excuse for his behavior. Even the actors had to make things up just to make it better

When Harry was using floo powder. And accidentally ended up in Knockturn alley inside Borgan & Burke's, and hid himself when he saw Lucius and Draco come in. Lucius was looking to sell some dark artifacts before ministry officials might have found them in his house in a raid, and told Draco not to touch anything in the store as some of the items are dangerous

If there’s anything J.K. Rowling did in her life that was positive (other then Harry Potter of course) it was the way she treated those kids on the set. Making sure they had psychiatrists and therapists, they had an education and rules for how long they had to work and such. Almost every one of those kids turned out well in the end

In general, filmmaking is such a massive and collaborative process that it’s no wonder that all of these creatives combined start to add their own little details. After all, from costumes, to props and sets, most background details are hand-made somewhere. Once you include the writers, director, actors and the hundreds of others involved, there is a lot of space to hide something interesting

The reason I don’t like the movie Titanic, like from less than 30 minutes into watching it in the theatre when it came out (unpopular opinion, I know, but hear me out), is that there were so many real stories about passengers that were way more interesting than the fictional romance and were totally ignored. In my opinion, the movie would’ve been a true masterpiece if it had told the real stories, and dumped the ludicrous fake romance storyline and its gratuitous nude scene. Plus they did Molly Brown dirty by making her back down when the crew member in her lifeboat told her to sit down because he wasn’t going to go back and collect survivors. Molly was too fierce in real life to back down like some simpering magnolia blossom, and in real life, she grabbed an oar to help row, plus urged the crew to go back and pick up survivors. Hated it when it came out, have consistently refused to watch it ever since.

Teenage me watching this thought that Jack and Rose had an amazing, romantic love story. Adult me realised they only knew each other for about three days, Rose was only 17, they came from very different backgrounds that would likely have caused resentments in the long term, and she was cheating on her fiancé. I get the fiancé was a d**k but still. 😆

I got the sense she was getting into an arranged marriage and didn't actually love that guy. She knew she wasn't happy and wanted to get out of the stuffy life she was in, but her "fiance" and parents kept pulling her in and her fiance gave her that expensive gift. Back then, women didn't have the rights they have now, nor were listened to.

I've always found movies that portray the victims in those historical tragedies to be insulting to the real victims. Their real lives and that tragedy could have been portrayed meaningfully as the real people they were without the Hollywood 'dramatisation' (read: lies) about their life stories. A very sad and horrible memorial for those victims who deserve better.

From what I've learned, the sinking of the Titanic was far more disturbing in real life than what was portrayed in the movie. There was a powerful current from the suction of the ship that wasn't included in the film. The life boats were being pulled towards the sinking ship, as told by survivors. They feared the boats would be sucked under the water. Although there was some music played at first, there certainly wasn't violinists playing as the ship went down.

Fun fact. Men were ordered at gunpoint to stay out of the lifeboats because there were still women and children on board. However, they were still ordered on pain of being shot to stay out of the lifeboat as it was leaving half (and sometimes more than half) empty. It would not be coming back for the women and children still on board, but the men still weren’t allowed in them. Too stupid for words. (There is a great 4 part podcast on the Titanic on The Rest Is History”)

DO NOT blame Ginsburg for our current Supreme Court situation. That blame rests squarely on Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump. This is what happens when one side plays by the rules and the other changes the rules to suit themselves.

Scooby was on it and looked intimidating, but the MM had "RIP F + D + S" on the side. I think the design was called "we've got work to do now Scoob"

many years after her role as the grieving mom who slaps the "chief", the actress was eating in a diner where she noticed an item on the menu with the name of her shark eaten "son". she mentioned that she had played the mother in the movie. the cashier quickly got the owner, a young man. the owner was the boy who played her son! the two had never seen one another after the movie.

His grandfather, the humorist Robert Benchley, was featured in a series of short films based on his writings and also appeared in many movie comedies. I actually prefer the film over the book, though I think both are great. I found the final conflict with the shark in the book to be less climactic, and even if the way the shark died in the film couldn't have happened in real-life (as confirmed by the Mythbusters), the set-up and the amazing music by John Williams (I mean, he always delivers) before Brody goes, "Smile, you son of a—!" satisfied me more overall. Plus, some of those subplots in the book, like Ellen's affair with Hooper and the mafia, felt convoluted.

Wouldn't it be great if people identified who the pronoun refers to? Should I assume, Rob, that you are referring to Ford or maybe the actor who played Chewbacca? I don't like grammar police, but ... Sorry, Rob, but pronouns can be confusing. (I'll go back to lurking)

If you're confused by this there is no hope for you. In the context it's perfectly clear, and the grammar itself is 100% correct. (ETA: although some grammar pedants might disagree about the comma before the 'and').

Unpopular opinion: He's an objectively bad actor. Visible confusion at improv is either next level good, or pretty bad, lol. Every role has been perfect for him, cause they allowed him to just be himself. Not saying his movies aren't awesome. But like Jack Nicholson, he just steps in and does "himself " there's no acting. Cause they couldn't.

Fun fact, and slight spoiler alert: while Perdita does appear in the original book by Dodie Smith, and was indeed a mother dog, she wasn't Pongo's "wife," nor did she give birth to his puppies. That honor belongs to Missus. The book is quite a bit different from the Disney movies - for example, Cruella wasn't a crazed lunatic, but rather was elegant, sophisticated, and coldly calculating - and in my not-so-humble-opinion far superior to them.

I've read he also didn't want to meddle with a corn farmer's crop, in case he wouldn't have enough budget to pay properly for the destroyed parts of corn. It was a thoroughly thoughtful decision that was very lucrative too. They earned more than they paid

Makes sense. If you drive a truck through it it's flattened (like above). So you need to make sure you've got heaps of room in case you need multiple takes. And I'm sure there are some aerial shots where they fly over the farm, so they'd want that to look real too. He's notorious for doing stuff in camera rather than CGI (where possible).

Andy Serkis was visited on set by his kids when he was in his "Smeagol partway into becoming Gollum" makeup and said he was worried his daughter would be scared. But she apparently just touched his face and said "silly Daddy!"

Understandable. I had a teacher in middle school who was very tall and always had the best costumes for Halloween. One year she was Maleficent. She was terrifying.

Idk, there's always that one. When I was younger, I was never scared of costumed scary monsters and villains at professional haunted houses, and such. But, the time it was Darth Vader...I knew it was just some guy in a costume and it's a fictional character. But, in all my childhood, I had never been so scared in my life.

The movie was very loosely based on John Nash Jr. It was not very accurate. For example, Nash said that he never had visual hallucinations.

Love this movie. It is accurate except he would’ve spaghettified for years and years until finally being sucked into the hole. Any radio traffic back to the craft would take a long time to get back to the craft even though it looks close. I don’t think it’d be fun to get sucked into a black hole.

I'm assuming this means render hours, or processor hours not actual hours. In other words they spread the load over say 100 processors so each second took an hour of actual elapsed time.

The thing that bothered me the most was probably in the book, how he died. It was so simple, only a sentence or two. When after all that time it took to find Harry and find the Horcruxes and all that stuff that could take up seven whole books, I figured it would be better.... Just my opinion though!

This is one recent Disney movie they really nailed. I'd love to see a sequel if they can maintain the quality. It actually felt like they wrote a police procedural first then backported it into a kids movie and simplified it a bit. So it was watchable as a crime movie for the adults as well as a kiddie movie.

She was known to be one of the best script fixers around. I once watched an interview where she was asked how much money she made as a script fixer. Being the princess she was, she just said it is impolite to ask anyone else how much money they made, so the only polite answer would be to not answer that question at all.

Hook had quite a few cameos. Phil Collin’s played the police detective. David Crosby and Jimmy Buffet played a pirate. Glen Close was the pirate placed in the Boo Box. Gwyneth Paltrow played younger Wendy.

Yes! Ants take them back to their lair And feed them because they love the nectar and fungus that grows around the aphids. They don't eat the aphids, but they do harvest what the aphids produce

Sadly both too old. They wanted a younger actor so they could do sequels. Didn't exactly work out for them but you can understand the reasoning. I think if they'd just one one or maybe two movies focusing on an older Nathan Drake either Fillion or North would have been perfect.

I think this must be a fascinating coincidence. Or perhaps based on fisherman's rumours? The first documented sighting of orcas killing great whites was in 1997, apparently. At least as far as I can find (started to look because I thought this was relatively newly discovered and so was surprised by the 1975 date). I'd love to know for sure.

The boat was originally called Warlock when it was bought for the film. It was changed to Orca, great white sharks only natural predator, just for the film. The first documented sighting in '97, and subsequent ones, especially along the coast of South Africa, are believed to be due to the depletion of deep sea food sources for both predators, most likely by over fishing. This forces both predators to come closer to shore to hunt. Orca also hunt other shark species eg tiger sharks. Once again humans can watch, in vivid colour, what the destruction of natural habitats forces other living creatures to do to survive.

Fun fact! All brands pay to be featured, unless it's really to the side and not the focal point. For example, car companies will pay a lot of money to be the brand of car that the cool guys drive. It has very little to do with what is actually the best and mostly to do with what the brand has paid for.
