They say friends are the family you can choose. Your close friends might not be related to you by blood, but they surely have your best interests at heart and sometimes know things about you your family is better off not knowing. Some people think friends should have shared hobbies, but while having Harry Potter marathons together is surely a nice bonus to the relationship, it is more important to have common values and respect for each other.

I met my best friend and my partner (separate people) on the internet! My best friend (of 12 years now!) and I still only get to see one another in person every year or two when one of us can make the trip, but my partner and I have lived together for three years now! I'd never have met either of them without the internet and my life would have been missing some very important ingredients.
I guess you’re right…if you know FOR SURE that person is your best friend. I thought that but when I went through a divorce I found out through my ex that he had given her our beautiful clawfoot dining table. I had nothing when I left except for the most important-our boys. When I asked if I could have the table she blew up at me. She told me everything she thought was wrong with me. I cried it was so hurtful and all she said was “Its the truth and I always tell the truth”. I didn’t get the table and haven’t talked with her in almost 40 years.
