“The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair to cancer treatment or to other conditions like Alopecia. Thanks to its supporters who not only donate their hair but also fundraise, The Little Princess Trust provides around 2,000 real hair wigs every year to children and young people up to the age of 24. It was set up in 2005 in memory of Hannah Tarplee. A year earlier, she had been diagnosed with a Wilms Tumor and the loss of her hair was especially traumatic.”

Nikhilesh says, "I've always had a complicated relationship with my hair. Growing up, teachers used to tell me I needed to comb my hair, and the other kids would say it looked like a bird's nest. This created a lot of insecurity about my hair, so I started straightening it in high school to try and fit in with everyone else. One day, I didn't straighten my hair, and a girl told me my hair looked beautiful. Long hair has given me so much confidence and helped me care less about other people's opinions. Although I'm nervous about losing this part of my identity that has grown with my hair, I think I'm ready to experience something new. These locks have empowered me in so many ways, and I'm glad they will continue to make a difference, empowering kids that have lost their hair to help them look like the rockstars they truly are."

I started growing out my hair at the start of the pandemic. I was able to avoid catching COVID for 3-years, only to get it about a month ago. Felt like it was time to get it cut. I work for an organization that hosts 5k each year to support a local family in need. To help raise money for the little boy we are running for, I challenged my employees to donate money to the 5k. For every dollar that they donated, they could vote for a hairstyle. At the end of the voting period, whichever hairstyle had raised the most money would be how I cut my hair. Bald pulled ahead and won by a landslide.
I cut off 14 inches of curls yesterday and donated them to "Wigs For Kids". I will miss my curls, but hopefully, I'll be able to help someone else have their own head full of curls.

Often true but this is also due to the fact that when you plan to donate your hair you stop going to the hairdresser at some point and stop getting a hairstyle because you want all your hair to be about the same length and you need a certain minimum length (25-30 cm/10-12 inches). So after a certain point you just start looking something in-between boring and 'really in need of haircut's ;) I am looking forward to having my pixie again in about half a year, bc right now, I too look very plain.

My hair wasn't dead or anything of the sort, really. I took good care of it. I was told by my parents no one would want such an ugly color, (I'm a brunette.) So that turned into younger me hating my hair color and being ashamed of it. My mother had cancer twice, and she's went bald on multiple occasions. I grew up in a abusive house. (No, my mother wasn't the one to stop me from donating it, my dad at the time was.) Luckily, we got out of there, and he's been in and out of prison for selling drugs and assault. He has multiple other families, and he is both mentally and physically abusive. I was once looking for more information about him, and found an article about him putting loaded guns and a meth mashine next to a two year old (who was apparently me.) I am glad to say we are doing (somewhat) better now.

I’m surrounded by people with long hair. Friends and my community, which is rural Hawai’i and off-grid. So, a lot of hippies and Polynesians. I don’t have the patience to grow my hair out, but I often tease them all by good-heartedly referring to them as “hair farmers.” You know, because they’re cultivating hair. In the case of people who donate their gorgeous locks to charity, they’re literally hair farmers. And I love the idea of thinking about purposefully growing one’s hair out for a cause as hair farming.

The summer before my freshman year of highschool, I got a massive haircut. My hair went from close to halfway down my back to above my ears. I donated 12" of hair.
I have been donating my hair to them every 2-3 years for the last 15 years! It's a great cause. I always take a picture of the braid after they chop it all off.
I really hope that the hair will be donated to people who have lost their hair. Then again I wonder what extension are made of that the celebrities wear

You all look wonderful! I have had brain surgery 3 times and have to have a 4th this fall. I have lost my hair twice. I have come to the realization that it's just hair, and there is so much more that's important in the grand scheme of things. I have had two wigs and I own probably 10 caps. I also chose just to be bald a lot. I used to have blonde hair, mostly straight. I now have short, light-brown curly hair! I have a great stylist who has helped me embrace the changes to my hair with cut and, when I choose, color. Blessings to all these people who have chosen to donate their hair. They're doing something very selfless.
So lovely!! So many people benefit from this care from strangers! I've tried to donate mine before but it can't have been colored treated. (Kinda broke my heart.)

Love this! I had a friend growing up who was diagnosed with brain cancer at age 12. She had a lot of chemo and radiation and awesomely is still with us today! She does still wear a wig as much of the radiation treatments permanently damaged her hair follicles so she has very little of her natural hair. The real hair wig she has looks so good you can't tell it's a wig unless she shows you by taking it off
Twice in my lifetime I've cut my really long hair short wanting to donate it, sell it or whatever but twice it ended up in the trash or the hairdresses sold it... I've never dyed my hair, the split ends could have been snipped off and I have reaaally thick hair, it could have been put to good use. I still b***h about that from time to time...
For the past three years, I've been growing my hair long enough to make the 8" chop for Children with Hairloss. I'm waiting on my last inch before my chop at the end of the summer, but it always makes my heart (and head) feel so much lighter!

As someone who shaves her head due uneven Alopecia … i cried the first time it had to come off. But while people stare, and whisper comments, there IS a certain freedom. There is a bit of now living what I told others. That who you are resides with the shell exterior. And I now collect beanies *L*. I’ve literally asked if my beanie looks right. Sometimes I even go without one (oh how daring I know *L*)
I've done this once and they gave me the haircut free (wasn't expecting that.) Since I now have underactive thyroid, my hair grows too slowly. It's been about a year and a half to two years since I had it last cut short, and it's only shoulder length. Edit: They also won't take hair that's been dyed, so that also stopped me on a couple of occasions.

Mine grew during lockdown, by the time we could go back to the salon it had got past the awkward stage and I was having fun putting it up in various retro styles. After two and a half years I had enough to send to Little Princess Trust. And yes, I am growing it again

Did that too. Had long hair for over 8 years, donated to Rak'n'Roll (pun of words, rak means cancer in Polish).
Everyone looked great before and after. Perhaps see a few of them in another 3 - 4 years.
You all look wonderful! I have had brain surgery 3 times and have to have a 4th this fall. I have lost my hair twice. I have come to the realization that it's just hair, and there is so much more that's important in the grand scheme of things. I have had two wigs and I own probably 10 caps. I also chose just to be bald a lot. I used to have blonde hair, mostly straight. I now have short, light-brown curly hair! I have a great stylist who has helped me embrace the changes to my hair with cut and, when I choose, color. Blessings to all these people who have chosen to donate their hair. They're doing something very selfless.
So lovely!! So many people benefit from this care from strangers! I've tried to donate mine before but it can't have been colored treated. (Kinda broke my heart.)
Little Princess Trust will take coloured hair as long as it's a permanent dye and a natural hair colour

Depending on where you are, there are a few places that you can send it to. Might be a good idea to go to a salon and ask, mine packaged mine up and sent it off for me :)
Load More Replies... Love this! I had a friend growing up who was diagnosed with brain cancer at age 12. She had a lot of chemo and radiation and awesomely is still with us today! She does still wear a wig as much of the radiation treatments permanently damaged her hair follicles so she has very little of her natural hair. The real hair wig she has looks so good you can't tell it's a wig unless she shows you by taking it off
Twice in my lifetime I've cut my really long hair short wanting to donate it, sell it or whatever but twice it ended up in the trash or the hairdresses sold it... I've never dyed my hair, the split ends could have been snipped off and I have reaaally thick hair, it could have been put to good use. I still b***h about that from time to time...
For the past three years, I've been growing my hair long enough to make the 8" chop for Children with Hairloss. I'm waiting on my last inch before my chop at the end of the summer, but it always makes my heart (and head) feel so much lighter!

It's nice everyone donated for kids. But what about all the adults who loose their hair?
I wish people would STOP donating their hair. Whoever you gave it to ALWAYS SELLS the hair they NEVER donate. If you wanna donate hair give it directly to the source not some middleman place.
I tried to do this and grew my hair out but health issues and medication to treat said health issues have made half my hair fall out
As someone who shaves her head due uneven Alopecia … i cried the first time it had to come off. But while people stare, and whisper comments, there IS a certain freedom. There is a bit of now living what I told others. That who you are resides with the shell exterior. And I now collect beanies *L*. I’ve literally asked if my beanie looks right. Sometimes I even go without one (oh how daring I know *L*)
I've done this once and they gave me the haircut free (wasn't expecting that.) Since I now have underactive thyroid, my hair grows too slowly. It's been about a year and a half to two years since I had it last cut short, and it's only shoulder length. Edit: They also won't take hair that's been dyed, so that also stopped me on a couple of occasions.
I donated my hair...🥺long blonde Rapunzel locks🥺 it only took for me to find out I'd lose it...I'd give anything to get it back.
