We all know what kind of difference a good teacher can make in someone's life. A skilled educator has an opportunity to inspire students to pursue their goals and talents, can recognize their strengths and give them the most important knowledge they can offer. While we all should celebrate all of the amazing teachers out there, many schools still lack compassionate, thoughtful and talented teachers. A Twitter user who recently started a thread asking people to share their crappy teacher stories proves that some people are simply unsuited to do this important job. In the eye-opening and shocking thread, people shared stories of harrowing teachers who abused their power over students, humiliated and bullied them.

Talking of respect, I had a new ROTC teacher come in screaming at us talking about if you respect me I'll respect you while showing us zero respect. I made it my main mission in life to make him hate his and I succeeded. I got many other students on board and he barely lasted the year.. I'm willing to bet I took years off that man's life.

She shouldn't have been working in a school to begin with. My parents would have raised hell if that had been me. Teachers and other school staff need to take students with illnesses seriously.

Whoah. A good friend's mother was dying of cancer, and the principal said he would not allow her to be with her mother, she had to be in school. Luckily, her aunt told the principal where to stick it.

My school friend was compromite with this once. She had long and irregular period... She just put a hand in her pants and put it out covered by blood. Teacher was horrified but also learn a lesson about irregular period

Hi man. Many women and particularly young women have irregular periods, so one month it could be 28 days, but the next 12 etc. That is why "safe days" aren't a real thing.

I had a male PE Teacher yell at me during class to get my "fat a*s" moving. When we had to run laps around the track.....back in the 80's. I was a super shy kid and it was awful. I was so upset that before the next class, I tried to drop a really heavy dresser drawer on my foot in the hopes of breaking my foot so I wouldn't have to go to class, it didn't work. I never told anyone about it.

Wow. I'd have been screwed. I have endometriosis which caused me to have super irregular, heavy and long periods. When I say long I mean I'd literally Have one for three weeks or a month sometimes longer. Most days whether I was actively on my period or not I had cramps so bad I didn't want to move or couldn't so swimming would NOT have been an option.

As someone who has always had extremely irregular periods, I can't explain how incredibly stupid this is. The female body, especially when it is going through puberty, is not nearly as neat or predictable as this mouthbreather clearly believes. We are not on a schedual, we do not have planned periods. Stop making the poor girls' already confusing, hormone-heavy lives even worse.

That’s definitely not okay! I recall when I had periods & mine always lasted TWICE as long, so painful that my mum kept me off school some days (I’d be doubled over crying in pain & couldn’t even focus on watching TV, let alone schoolwork) & so heavy that I often had to use 3 sanitary towels at a time. Staff & students didn’t believe me when I tried to explain how bad it was & even my own doctors refused to believe I could be in that much pain, but my fam (plus my eldest sister who shares my condition) knew I wasn’t faking & always defended me. As I wasn’t believed in school, my mum told me to ask for the restroom & instead of going there or to the matron, I had to call her, so she would come & pick me up (whether they liked it or not). It wasn’t until my late 20’s/early 30’s that I was diagnosed with PCOS & endometriosis, but doctors are still refusing to offer anything stronger than paracetamol/ibuprofen … surprise-surprise. 😕🤷♀️

My oldest daughter just started secundary school, she's urning 13 this year. Her PE teacher told them "if they have their period more than once a month, they are special". First note I wrote was a very long one with a leaflet on "first periods" included

So, were these swimming classes weekly? Twice a week? Because I'd have the tiny problem of my two week long, 1.5x a month (so most months 3/4 weeks was bleeding), heavy periods that I had to go on birth control for since I was bleeding to the point of anaemia

I was an anxious child and it was mortifying enough to have to tell my Male swim teacher that I was on my period, but then we had to sit on bleachers off to the side and he would tell anyone who asked why I wasn't swimming so then the whole class knew when I had my period. Horrible!

We didn't have a pool at my school, but having your period was not even a consideration for track or other gym activities. You just pushed through it like you have to do with life as an adult. That's what tampons and advil is for. You don't get days off work every month if you have your period, unless your job is swimming with sharks. Maybe if men got periods it would be a revered national holiday every month, but women don't have that luxury.

One teacher told my youngest (of 3) sister, "Why can't you be creative like your sisters?" That hurt. I'm glad she got past that, but it took a while. She now does interesting crafts (great colour sense!). Plus, she works in PR, marketing, travel writing, tourism, would make a very good manager-- I can't praise her enough!

So how does one gain the right to feel sad? Is there a quota system (10 worst situations on the entire planet) or is it based on a checklist (must have 9 out of 10 specific events happen over the course of 25 hours) or do you argue for your right before a jury of one insensitive art teacher?

That person clearly did hear the teacher, to have done them. The student should have gone to the principal while she went to the nurse's office to make sure her head was okay.

I've told this one before...a (male) teacher stopped in the middle of class to tell me "Your legs are too fat. You need to go on a diet." This wasn't Phys Ed or some class when commenting on my weight might be even slightly appropriate - this was like Math or Social Studies. F*** him.

If your father was sending e-mails to the teacher which made him believe that you did not have ADHD, the teacher had reason to believe that you were making this up. It's rather the father who is to blame, not the teacher.

Guys used to bully me a lot at school, calling me names, singing mean songs, pushing me over. So one day I took my complaint straight to the principal. One of the guys tagged along because the teachers wanted it to be "sorted out". Ended up the guy was simply told to chill and when he left and I stayed, the principal looked at me and he said "you shouldn't worry about this, guys this age are mean to girls they like so he simply likes you!" Yep. Of course. Silly me. What else to expect from a society that romanticizes mental abuse?

My 6th grade teacher told the class a story about how her family got a cat, and wanted to de-claw it themselves (de-clawing a cat is cat abuse to begin with, not to mention doing it yourself). She felt she needed a cat to practice on, so they FOUND A DEAD CAT IN THE STREET and de-clawed the poor dead cat. The boy who sat in front of me was so upset – he said that could have been has cat, because his cat had disappeared and they never knew what happened to it.

I really don't want to say to much, it still hurts. My third grade teacher was so cruel and demeaning, she took a happy, popular child reading at the seventh grade level, and through constant physical and emotional abuse turned him into an isolated, nervous frightened kid who was tossed into special ed. Even now, the damage lingers on. I have good life, but her specter haunts me sometimes.

My 6th grade science teacher gave me an F on a test related to the geologic mechanisms behind plate tectonics. There was much anger at home. Though fortunately for me, my "incorrect" answers were based on the latest research and computer modeling techniques, as opposed to the "answers" in the obsolete textbook. My father was a microbiologist, and subscribed to the journal Science. Evidently not all of it was over my head. He kindly explained that she was the incorrect one, with fully cited sources.

People called for jury duty are screened to ensure they are not homophobic, racist, religious fanatics etc so the accused gets a fair trial. Why aren't would be teachers screened likewise so children are treated fairly in school?

I once sharpened my pencil, put it on my desk. Boy next to me (that I didn't know) stabbed it in my hand for no reason. Teacher rolled her eyes when I asked to go to office for a bandaid (blood was getting on my book). Office eye rolled too. I still have a grey dot in my hand, and unsurprisingly I've seen this guy pop up in the local court news quite a bit. A shame no one cared enough to help him then we were 11, no body seemed bothered by it but surely these are the signs a kid needs help?

I was severely bullied in school as a kid in elementary. My peers, teachers, and principal disliked me (I am literally a school fanatic, I study almost 365/ a year), even though I was a good, kind student. Apparently, I was too smart for them to tolerate. If the teacher asked us to create a report, the kids in my class would hand in 1 page stories, and I would hand in a 10+ page essay, I was spot on, A+ in my work. I turned to homeschooling in Grade 7 and it opened the doors to so much possibility for me! I started my own business, and continued my home education (even to this day, I'm still a dedicated student). And even though my homeschooled teachers still believed that I was too good to be true in some things, I have proved them wrong this week by submitting my semester of course work to them, so descriptive, that they've asked me to come teach the class! I have been providing resources for the school's curriculum for years, and as of now, I work for NASA! I'm in high school BTW.

Had a teacher in Elementary school who would line up all the white kids in front of the chalkboard and beat us with the yard stick she carried around. She would yell at us saying we deserved it after what our people did to her people. We were terrified to tell anyone but thankfully after a week or so she finally got caught and we never saw her again. Also....had tons of pervy high school teachers (male AND female)

My PTSD started at a really young age. I'm currently 16. I was in kindergarten. A girl cut my hair and so I did the same thing to her hair. I know not the smartest move. But then she screamed. The principal was called up. Next thing I know I'm being dragged down flights of stairs. Now this school was huge. Many staircases and it was like 4 floors tall with many hallways. So I'm terrified cause I have no idea what's going to happen to me. So I cry. Then her hand tightens on my arm. I'm again crying and asking her to let me go cause she's hurting me. She starts dragging me down the many stair cases. I can't keep up so then I'm terrified that she's just gonna throw me down the stairs. At this point I'm begging some one to come help me. She didn't like that. She tried swinging a punch at me. Then I started trying to hold on to door handles cause I don't want to go with her. Only like one person poked their head out. I started having nightmares at 15. Finally told my parents.

When I was in the 3rd grade, my class was coming in from recess, and my teacher swore she heard me call her a b***h. I was suspended from school, and my mother sent me to boarding school for the remainder of my childhood. I never called my teacher a b***h, but because she thought I said it, my entire life was altered.

I once got detention for supposedly writing an "inappropriate" note in class she found. Not only did I not write it, it had my name spelled wrong at the bottom and the teacher claimed I was lying. I kept telling her that's not my handwriting nor is that how you spell my name. Instead of fact checking, she just gave me detention and the two bullies who wrote it got a kick out of me getting into trouble. A******s. 🤦♀️

A lector at my uni told us that some people are just born for translating, and that she can see their auras and will only work with them (also named a few students), she doesn't work with the rest of us. An English teacher at high school did large numbers with us, BE ones (BE was the standard we had to learn, we were scolded for using AE), and she wanted to show us the difference between BE and AE numbers and since she didn't know the AE version, asked us. I raised my hand and said, she said it was incorrect (which happened several other times). I got fed up and asked her how did she know my answer was incorrect when she said she didn't know the answer in the first place. Yup, received a mouthful. She ultimately consulted a dictionary, but would never acknowledge that my answer was ultimately correct. Damn, I hated that woman.

I went to a Catholic school went I was in kindergarten and 1st grade. I was able to write/draw/color with both of my hands for a while. One day, the teacher (nuns didn't teach us, regular teachers did) told me that I would have to decide which hand I'd like to use when I write/draw/color and I told her that I wanted to use my left hand. She didn't sugarcoat it when she said that I'm going to Hell for being a lefty. I was 5 years old when she said that. Fast forward 22 years, and I'm still a lefty and proud of it.

Go you! My dad emigrated here to nz from Ireland, he's 66 now, but he told me about when he was a boy in ireland: his teacher would cane him for using his left hand but he just took it and didn't stop. Eventually the teacher gave up. I think the teacher hated him after setting him a punishment task of adding the numbers 1-100, dad paused then said 5000(I think lol I'm nt gna add it up), teacher accused him of cheating or already knowing, dad said no, 100, then 99+1, 98+2 etc, so 49 100s plus 100 XD Anyway he is an accomplished technician, loves trying to explain hexadecimal and binary to me but it whooshes over my head. He says god made a few ppl perfectly and the rest right handed ^-^

When I was a kid, I had pretty bad asthma. I've outgrown it, but my lungs didn't really become as strong as they should have. Anyway, I was in school, when I start struggling to breathe. I think it's an asthma attack, and ask my teacher if I can see the nurse. He calls me a "Jess", and tells me to get over it. Luckily, I was wrong, and was just struggling in the cold, but it could have gone south real fast had I been having a real attack.

My third-grade teacher targeted me for some reason. At one point, she put my desk in the coat closet. At another point, a girl who sat next to me burnt herself with hot water we used to make cocoa and was sitting quietly with damp towel on her arm. The principal came through, saw the damp towel, and asked me what happened. I answered his question. When he left, the teacher announced to the class that we couldn't have cocoa anymore because of me. She would often spent big chunks of class just chewing me out for no good reason.

Not a teacher but a teacher's aid in college. My husband was asked to make an abstract painting in art school. He made a piece that had a city on fire and solid black figures of people dancing outside the city walls (all in red, orange, yellow and black.) When he took it in for grading...the TA said "No..like this" and proceeded to take a paintbrush filled with grey paint and spattered it all over my husbands art piece. My husband was so furious, he dropped the class and majored in Creative Writing and minored in Japanese.

My dad had a very abusive teacher in grade 3. He told me she would hit kids over the head when they mumbled and gave them a 0 if she didn't like the student. Him and his friend got fed up with it, and about halfway through the year, my dad, his friend and the entire class decided to march to the principal's office together and tell him what their teacher had been doing. He never saw her again after that day.

I've already commented on one post of the images here, but I kinda feel like ranting more about my terrible digital technology teacher for a bit. Last year I took digital tech, and I had a teacher who had a very... certain teaching style. She wouldn't stand up in front of the class and tell us or teach us what to do on the whiteboard or something. She would put most of her lessons on the class onenote and call it a lesson. Add walking around and hovering over my shoulder while doing my work, and that was basically her class. She told me off many times for not having a good colour font on my assignment (She also told other students to come up to me and tell me to change my font colour, since I told her that I like my assignment the way it is), told me that I didn't know what I was talking about most of the time, Told the class that if you ask for help, you're needy and never get a high mark, and more stuff i can't fit in. Had to deal with this for 2 years.

Um, maybe that's exactly why they don't have internet? maybe they can't afford it????? I still don't get that. Oh yeah, She also failed me with my final assignment because I didn't fill in this reflective diary, which was something i had to fill in every day saying what I did that lesson and what I could do next lesson. I did finish making my website (which is what my assignment was) but she failed me because I didn't fill in a log??

All girls school. PE teacher was way past retirement age, really creepy. She would always Stand and watch us, getting changed and undressed. It made everyone uncomfortable. She Also never listened when Anyone had a doctors note and forced kids who were unwell to take part in class. Including one time when I had passed out the day before (low blood pressure) and had hit my head. She’d then talk sh*t about girls she didn’t like to the other PE teachers, in front of you so you and all the other girls could hear. Why become a teacher if you hate kids?

She may date back to an era where the 'proper' job for a woman (besides marriage)was teaching, and only the lower grades. The women received less money, more work, and a great deal of flack 'because they couldn't get a man'. (Not excusing her behavior, simply explaining how she got there.)

My youngest had a teacher that would make fun of her with the entire class. She was bullied relentlessly by the kids , and the teacher felt the need to join in. Turns out the things she was making fun of my daughter for were major red flags for ADHD. My daughter was 8, and the kindest person you could imagine. I recently found that teacher on FB and wrote her a message about how much she hurt my daughter . She never replied , go figure

Year 12 art start of the year required 3 majors to be completed. I did mine (Full background watercolour with acrylic pain animal tributes to my pets in the foreground) and the teacher said she loved them. Then week 6 there were 9 required majors needed to be done, she checked them the day before to suggest final improvements. Told me that 3 of mine (the ones she said she loved) were s**t and looked like a Year 8's work, and that I had to completely redo all of them by the following day's beginning. I started working on them, trying not to cry and had a panic attack in class 30 mins later, full weeping and almost passed out. She didn't understand why I wanted to drop the subject the next monday, and fought me on it. Being 7 weeks late, only Modern History was open (which I hate) so I had to join that, while having missed and failed the first assignment, and barely passed the subject as a result.

1. I had a teacher in high school that talked s**t about me when I was in inpatient for trying to kill myself. No one was really supposed to know where I was. There were rumors, and my teachers only found out where I was when they had to get my assignments. Found out that in front of the class, she went on about me being dramatic and that I wasn't really sick, etc. She also talked s**t about a girl that ran away from home. 2. I was bullied in school. By the time my mom found out, it had been going on for years. I gave her an example of some stuff that would happen during class, so she reached out to that teacher. (Note, my mom was also a teacher.) The teacher responded that I was asking for it/ egging them on. So I deserved it

When I was in primary school, there was this teaching assistant who HATED me. Which is just weird because who sees a barely 4 years old kid walk in to the classroom, nice if a bit odd, and decides "yeah, I'm gonna bully this kid for SIX F*****G YEARS" I was attacked by another student in reception (so I was 4) and I was bleeding. He'd shoved a sharpened pencil up my nose and I was bleeding, but when I told the teaching assistant she said I attacked HIM, despite me very clearly being the injured one. The only "injury" he had was the red mark from me yanking his arm away from me. I've mostly blocked the specific memories out, though they occasionally come back, but what will never leave is the self-hatred, thinking I'm never good enough and it's all my fault, the self-destructive perfectionism which all ultimately contributed to severe mental illness which I'm still struggling with at 17. Thanks for over a decade of making me miserable, Mrs McCormack! B***h

so in 3rd grade, i had this art teacher (girl) who used to be nice to me in grades 1 and 2. she would give me a 0/15 because I was 1 minute late to submit- I mean just 1 minute so I screamed at her cause yes I was 9 and i had anger issues (i still do😭) so later when i was going home with my friends she picked a worm and tried throwing it on me (i hate worms) and my friend got mad at the teacher and once again i screamed super loud and yea her ears were hurt for a day and now idk what happened

My oldest daughter has cerebral palsy and spastic quadriplegia. Her middle school special education teacher told me, in front of her, she will never amount to more than delivering meals and mail at the mall with her powerchair. Liz is now 33 years old. She taught herself how to evaluate companies and events to determine which companies to invest in. She now has over a half a million dollars worth of stocks. Every year, she uses part of her dividends to fund scholarships that she awards to students in two alternative schools. She wants to eventually award full ride scholarships to underprivileged students.

My 9th grade my teacher during a lesson asked if we had any questions about the problems we where doing, I was horrible at math so I raised my hand. Her face got so red and she stomped over took my desk with both hands and started screaming and shaking my desk up and down and shouted in my face WHAT DONT YOU GET!?! WEVE DONE THE SAME THING EVERYDAY!!! Everyone stopped and stared at us. I got up and went to the front office and told the principal I was humiliated. They put me in a smaller class with a super nice teacher.

Where does one begin... I had an art teacher who told me that if I didn't do projects exactly the way he told me I wouldn't get into this prestigious local arts highschool (I ignored him, and got in). The same teacher wanted to force me to present a piece I didn't like in front of the school. Because it wasn't for a grade, he legally couldn't do that, and I had really bad anxiety, I just threw it in the trash while saying no for the seventh time. He looked at me and said, "wow, real mature" to which I responded "I'm 12. I don't have to be mature." Not the best response, but an absolute power move. I had a math teacher who decided she only liked 5 students and handed them passes that said she would only teach them and the rest of us would fend for ourselves. The administration backed this decision that "I don't have to teach you if I don't want to." Pretty much my entire middle school was a horror show.

I don't remember much really bad for myself, but my mom did tell me a story for when she was in elementary. Apparently there were several kids who had her first name. She, trying to be helpful suggested calling her by her middle name. The teacher called on her using the middle name. My mom had never gone by her middle name. She was used to it yet. Instead of being understanding the teacher said something along the lines of "look at Ellen. She gives a suggestion but won't even respond to it" my mom said it made her cry.

Year 12 Creative Art students were required to have completed 3 major artworks by the first day of school, I did mine and the Art teacher said she liked them and I could move ahead. Folio check in week 6 where the class had to have done 9 artworks each, and she checked the day before for final adjustments. Said 3 of mine (the three that were done for the beginning) were garbage and looked like something a Year 8 would do (Full watercolor background with acrylic paint animals in the foreground), and that I would need to completely redo all of them by the time they were due the next day, rather than telling me her issues to begin with. I had a panic attack working on them 20 minutes later, was crying and almost passed out in the room, and then she fought me and couldn't understand why I dropped out of the subject the next week. This also forced me to join Modern History, which I hated, 7 weeks late, having missed and failed an entire assignment, leaving me barely passing the subject.

My drama teacher in high school was a POS. She was basically untouchable because the theater program did really well and would get a lot of great publicity for the school. One time in class I wanted to show a clip from a movie for a project. It had a lot of cursing, so, by her order, I asked everyone if they were ok with a lot of foul language. Everyone was fine. Not a minute into it, she yelled at me to turn it off. I tried to stand up for myself, saying that she said it was ok as long as it was ok with the class, and her come back was to say that this was obviously a personal thing that I had against her and brought up a private journal entry that I had done for a project (about how I was getting so much more from theater classes outside of school than the less than nothing I was getting from her). This same teacher told my best friend to "go slit your wrists like you did your sophomore year" after she, again, stood up for herself (she said this to her when no one else was around)

My 6th, and maybe 7th, grade math teacher was HORRIBLE. Not in the abusive, mean way, he just didn’t do his job. He’d give us packets to do after telling us to go to a math website and doing things we had never done before. He basically just made us learn it ourselves. The days he didn’t give us anything to do, (which was often, maybe once a week) he’d just put a movie up. That was a horrible 1-2 years.

I have Asperger’s syndrome and I wear noise muffling headphones because noises are loud and scary. One teacher wouldn’t let me wear them because he thought I was listening to music and made me take them off during class. When I started freaking out because it got to loud he made fun of me and sent me to the principal’s office for disrupting the class. He got fired.

When I was in about fourth grade a teacher asked us to hold onto a math test and bring it back in a few weeks. I kept everything in a little wire mesh "in" box at home and kept it there. I told my siblings and as a joke my brother swiped it. A few weeks later, the teacher asked us to return the paper the next day and kept everyone after class who did not return the paper to her that day (never knew why it was so important). Then.. she had us all line up, bend over and used a paddle on us. Her keeping us after meant we all missed our bus and I had no one to come pick me up, so I sat there on the school stoop, with my little behind hurting from the harsh paddling and I just cried. I remember my big sister coming back to look for me and then walking me home. My mom could not believe what happened, went to the school and gave her "what for". It gave me trust issues, I was so angry at my brother who also felt really bad and etc. Oddly the woman moved next to us a few years later, and my mom went over and beat her up. I mean.. fists.

There is something called the "Peters Principle." It states people keep getting promoted until they reach their own level of incompetence. Many school administrators were decent teachers but reached their system's salary ceiling and so were promoted to admin. Unfortunately, the skill set necessary to be good at one rarely transfer well to the other.

I have always been into art and I was known for this all through elementary school. I was “the art-kid” basically and the top of the class. In 8th grade, our old teacher was forced to quit because the schools had cut down on her hours so much that she couldn’t afford to keep working there. Instead a new woman took over for her and this teacher absolutely HATED me - mainly because I wasn’t afraid to question her during lessons (something the previous teacher encouraged). I immediately went from being top of the class to absolute bottom and she claimed that this was because I wasn’t doing the assignments like she wanted me to. Last semester of 9th grade, I had moved to another city and started a new school. The art teacher of this school pulled me aside one day and asked me what was up with my grades from the previous school. She was shocked that my grades were so poor when I had shown I’m class from the start that I deserve top grades and she couldn’t figure it out.

I explained to her what had happened with the previous teacher and she was horrified. Unfortunately for me, because of how short of a time she had been teaching me, she was unable to open assign me the final grade that she thought I deserved because the jump between grades would be too big and would be questioned if she did. She still raised my grade as far as she could though. Still, that year with that teacher who hated me really ruined art for me.. It has never been the same since..

They made me go to school a year later than I was supposed to because I had trouble pronouncing certain phones - despite the fact I could already read and write which I learned by listening and watching my two years older sister. First year was literal hell. I was bored because I knew everything and my teacher straight up bullied me. She moved me around the class like a zillion times because I was supposedly disturbing everyone and in the end I ended up separated at "special" extra added desk (we call it oslovská lavice for the biggest deliquents) in front of board, where she could keep an eye on me all day long. She wrote notes to my parents at least twice a week about almost everything she felt like she could punish me for - like briefly looking out of a window, doing homework at school in advance or simply helping other pupils. I hate that b***h to this day. She suppressed all my ambitions, because I'm not supposed to be better or ahead. I never quite got over it

In 4th grade, as math lessons got a little bit harder, I had to struggle with it. Earlier I had never any problems with any subject, but in 4th grade math got a little harder with multiplication and all that, so I needed a little help. If someone had just taken the time to explain one or several ways of thinking when dealing with multiplication, I would've been just fine on my own after that. My teacher however thought that since I didn't already understand it completely on my own as the other kids did, there was no point for her trying to explain it to me either. That was her reason for not helping me, plus, it really wasn't fair that I took that much of her time. Needless to say, I fell far behind and barely made it to HS and college, once there I dropped out and eventually finished college as an adult. That teacher was awful to other kids too, a boy in my class needed extra help with English and the teacher refused and also showed zero tolerance and patience when he studdered.

Guys used to bully me a lot at school, calling me names, singing mean songs, pushing me over. So one day I took my complaint straight to the principal. One of the guys tagged along because the teachers wanted it to be "sorted out". Ended up the guy was simply told to chill and when he left and I stayed, the principal looked at me and he said "you shouldn't worry about this, guys this age are mean to girls they like so he simply likes you!" Yep. Of course. Silly me. What else to expect from a society that romanticizes mental abuse?

My 6th grade teacher told the class a story about how her family got a cat, and wanted to de-claw it themselves (de-clawing a cat is cat abuse to begin with, not to mention doing it yourself). She felt she needed a cat to practice on, so they FOUND A DEAD CAT IN THE STREET and de-clawed the poor dead cat. The boy who sat in front of me was so upset – he said that could have been has cat, because his cat had disappeared and they never knew what happened to it.

My third grade teacher was so cruel and demeaning, she took a happy, popular child reading at the seventh grade level, and through constant physical and emotional abuse turned him into an isolated, nervous frightened kid who was tossed into special ed. Even now, the damage lingers on. I have good life, but her specter haunts me sometimes.

My 6th grade science teacher gave me an F on a test related to the geologic mechanisms behind plate tectonics. There was much anger at home. Though fortunately for me, my "incorrect" answers were based on the latest research and computer modeling techniques, as opposed to the "answers" in the obsolete textbook. My father was a microbiologist, and subscribed to the journal Science. Evidently not all of it was over my head. He kindly explained that she was the incorrect one, with fully cited sources.

I once sharpened my pencil, put it on my desk. Boy next to me (that I didn't know) stabbed it in my hand for no reason. Teacher rolled her eyes when I asked to go to office for a bandaid (blood was getting on my book). Office eye rolled too. I still have a grey dot in my hand, and unsurprisingly I've seen this guy pop up in the local court news quite a bit. A shame no one cared enough to help him then we were 11, no body seemed bothered by it but surely these are the signs a kid needs help?

I was severely bullied in school as a kid in elementary. My peers, teachers, and principal disliked me (I am literally a school fanatic, I study almost 365/ a year), even though I was a good, kind student. Apparently, I was too smart for them to tolerate. If the teacher asked us to create a report, the kids in my class would hand in 1 page stories, and I would hand in a 10+ page essay, I was spot on, A+ in my work. I turned to homeschooling in Grade 7 and it opened the doors to so much possibility for me! I started my own business, and continued my home education (even to this day, I'm still a dedicated student). And even though my homeschooled teachers still believed that I was too good to be true in some things, I have proved them wrong this week by submitting my semester of course work to them, so descriptive, that they've asked me to come teach the class! I have been providing resources for the school's curriculum for years, and as of now, I work for NASA! I'm in high school BTW.

She would yell at us saying we deserved it after what our people did to her people. My PTSD started at a really young age. I'm currently 16. I was in kindergarten. A girl cut my hair and so I did the same thing to her hair. I know not the smartest move. But then she screamed. The principal was called up. Next thing I know I'm being dragged down flights of stairs. Now this school was huge. Many staircases and it was like 4 floors tall with many hallways. So I'm terrified cause I have no idea what's going to happen to me. So I cry. Then her hand tightens on my arm. I'm again crying and asking her to let me go cause she's hurting me. She starts dragging me down the many stair cases. I can't keep up so then I'm terrified that she's just gonna throw me down the stairs. At this point I'm begging some one to come help me. She didn't like that. She tried swinging a punch at me. Then I started trying to hold on to door handles cause I don't want to go with her. Only like one person poked their head out. I started having nightmares at 15. Finally told my parents.

I was suspended from school, and my mother sent me to boarding school for the remainder of my childhood. I never called my teacher a b***h, but because she thought I said it, my entire life was altered.

I once got detention for supposedly writing an "inappropriate" note in class she found. Not only did I not write it, it had my name spelled wrong at the bottom and the teacher claimed I was lying. I kept telling her that's not my handwriting nor is that how you spell my name. Instead of fact checking, she just gave me detention and the two bullies who wrote it got a kick out of me getting into trouble. A******s. 🤦♀️

A lector at my uni told us that some people are just born for translating, and that she can see their auras and will only work with them (also named a few students), she doesn't work with the rest of us. An English teacher at high school did large numbers with us, BE ones (BE was the standard we had to learn, we were scolded for using AE), and she wanted to show us the difference between BE and AE numbers and since she didn't know the AE version, asked us. I raised my hand and said, she said it was incorrect (which happened several other times). I got fed up and asked her how did she know my answer was incorrect when she said she didn't know the answer in the first place. Yup, received a mouthful. She ultimately consulted a dictionary, but would never acknowledge that my answer was ultimately correct. Damn, I hated that woman.

I went to a Catholic school went I was in kindergarten and 1st grade. I was able to write/draw/color with both of my hands for a while. One day, the teacher (nuns didn't teach us, regular teachers did) told me that I would have to decide which hand I'd like to use when I write/draw/color and I told her that I wanted to use my left hand. She didn't sugarcoat it when she said that I'm going to Hell for being a lefty. I was 5 years old when she said that. Fast forward 22 years, and I'm still a lefty and proud of it.

My dad emigrated here to nz from Ireland, he's 66 now, but he told me about when he was a boy in ireland: his teacher would cane him for using his left hand but he just took it and didn't stop. Eventually the teacher gave up. I think the teacher hated him after setting him a punishment task of adding the numbers 1-100, dad paused then said 5000(I think lol I'm nt gna add it up), teacher accused him of cheating or already knowing, dad said no, 100, then 99+1, 98+2 etc, so 49 100s plus 100 XD Anyway he is an accomplished technician, loves trying to explain hexadecimal and binary to me but it whooshes over my head. He says god made a few ppl perfectly and the rest right handed ^-^

When I was a kid, I had pretty bad asthma. I've outgrown it, but my lungs didn't really become as strong as they should have. Anyway, I was in school, when I start struggling to breathe. I think it's an asthma attack, and ask my teacher if I can see the nurse. He calls me a "Jess", and tells me to get over it. Luckily, I was wrong, and was just struggling in the cold, but it could have gone south real fast had I been having a real attack.

My third-grade teacher targeted me for some reason. At one point, she put my desk in the coat closet. At another point, a girl who sat next to me burnt herself with hot water we used to make cocoa and was sitting quietly with damp towel on her arm. The principal came through, saw the damp towel, and asked me what happened. I answered his question. When he left, the teacher announced to the class that we couldn't have cocoa anymore because of me. She would often spent big chunks of class just chewing me out for no good reason.

Not a teacher but a teacher's aid in college. My husband was asked to make an abstract painting in art school. He made a piece that had a city on fire and solid black figures of people dancing outside the city walls (all in red, orange, yellow and black.) When he took it in for grading...the TA said "No..like this" and proceeded to take a paintbrush filled with grey paint and spattered it all over my husbands art piece. My husband was so furious, he dropped the class and majored in Creative Writing and minored in Japanese.

My dad had a very abusive teacher in grade 3. He told me she would hit kids over the head when they mumbled and gave them a 0 if she didn't like the student. Him and his friend got fed up with it, and about halfway through the year, my dad, his friend and the entire class decided to march to the principal's office together and tell him what their teacher had been doing. He never saw her again after that day.

I've already commented on one post of the images here, but I kinda feel like ranting more about my terrible digital technology teacher for a bit. Last year I took digital tech, and I had a teacher who had a very... certain teaching style. She wouldn't stand up in front of the class and tell us or teach us what to do on the whiteboard or something. She would put most of her lessons on the class onenote and call it a lesson. Add walking around and hovering over my shoulder while doing my work, and that was basically her class. She told me off many times for not having a good colour font on my assignment (She also told other students to come up to me and tell me to change my font colour, since I told her that I like my assignment the way it is), told me that I didn't know what I was talking about most of the time, Told the class that if you ask for help, you're needy and never get a high mark, and more stuff i can't fit in. Had to deal with this for 2 years.

Oh yeah, She also failed me with my final assignment because I didn't fill in this reflective diary, which was something i had to fill in every day saying what I did that lesson and what I could do next lesson. I did finish making my website (which is what my assignment was) but she failed me because I didn't fill in a log??

All girls school. PE teacher was way past retirement age, really creepy. She would always Stand and watch us, getting changed and undressed. It made everyone uncomfortable. She Also never listened when Anyone had a doctors note and forced kids who were unwell to take part in class. Including one time when I had passed out the day before (low blood pressure) and had hit my head. She’d then talk sh*t about girls she didn’t like to the other PE teachers, in front of you so you and all the other girls could hear. Why become a teacher if you hate kids?

Turns out the things she was making fun of my daughter for were major red flags for ADHD. My daughter was 8, and the kindest person you could imagine. I recently found that teacher on FB and wrote her a message about how much she hurt my daughter . She never replied , go figure

Year 12 art start of the year required 3 majors to be completed. I did mine (Full background watercolour with acrylic pain animal tributes to my pets in the foreground) and the teacher said she loved them. Then week 6 there were 9 required majors needed to be done, she checked them the day before to suggest final improvements. Told me that 3 of mine (the ones she said she loved) were s**t and looked like a Year 8's work, and that I had to completely redo all of them by the following day's beginning. I started working on them, trying not to cry and had a panic attack in class 30 mins later, full weeping and almost passed out. She didn't understand why I wanted to drop the subject the next monday, and fought me on it. Being 7 weeks late, only Modern History was open (which I hate) so I had to join that, while having missed and failed the first assignment, and barely passed the subject as a result.

1. I had a teacher in high school that talked s**t about me when I was in inpatient for trying to kill myself. No one was really supposed to know where I was. There were rumors, and my teachers only found out where I was when they had to get my assignments. Found out that in front of the class, she went on about me being dramatic and that I wasn't really sick, etc. She also talked s**t about a girl that ran away from home. 2. I was bullied in school. By the time my mom found out, it had been going on for years. I gave her an example of some stuff that would happen during class, so she reached out to that teacher. (Note, my mom was also a teacher.) The teacher responded that I was asking for it/ egging them on. So I deserved it

When I was in primary school, there was this teaching assistant who HATED me. Which is just weird because who sees a barely 4 years old kid walk in to the classroom, nice if a bit odd, and decides "yeah, I'm gonna bully this kid for SIX F*****G YEARS" I was attacked by another student in reception (so I was 4) and I was bleeding. He'd shoved a sharpened pencil up my nose and I was bleeding, but when I told the teaching assistant she said I attacked HIM, despite me very clearly being the injured one. The only "injury" he had was the red mark from me yanking his arm away from me. I've mostly blocked the specific memories out, though they occasionally come back, but what will never leave is the self-hatred, thinking I'm never good enough and it's all my fault, the self-destructive perfectionism which all ultimately contributed to severe mental illness which I'm still struggling with at 17. Thanks for over a decade of making me miserable, Mrs McCormack! B***h

so in 3rd grade, i had this art teacher (girl) who used to be nice to me in grades 1 and 2. she would give me a 0/15 because I was 1 minute late to submit- I mean just 1 minute so I screamed at her cause yes I was 9 and i had anger issues (i still do😭) so later when i was going home with my friends she picked a worm and tried throwing it on me (i hate worms) and my friend got mad at the teacher and once again i screamed super loud and yea her ears were hurt for a day and now idk what happened

My oldest daughter has cerebral palsy and spastic quadriplegia. Her middle school special education teacher told me, in front of her, she will never amount to more than delivering meals and mail at the mall with her powerchair. Liz is now 33 years old. She taught herself how to evaluate companies and events to determine which companies to invest in. She now has over a half a million dollars worth of stocks. Every year, she uses part of her dividends to fund scholarships that she awards to students in two alternative schools. She wants to eventually award full ride scholarships to underprivileged students.

My 9th grade my teacher during a lesson asked if we had any questions about the problems we where doing, I was horrible at math so I raised my hand. Her face got so red and she stomped over took my desk with both hands and started screaming and shaking my desk up and down and shouted in my face WHAT DONT YOU GET!?! WEVE DONE THE SAME THING EVERYDAY!!! Everyone stopped and stared at us. I got up and went to the front office and told the principal I was humiliated. They put me in a smaller class with a super nice teacher.

I was bullied as a kid. When I told my teacher, she told me: " I'm not here to solve your problems. If kids are mean to you, maybe you're the problem. " Apparently she never heard about bullying.

Where does one begin... I had an art teacher who told me that if I didn't do projects exactly the way he told me I wouldn't get into this prestigious local arts highschool (I ignored him, and got in). The same teacher wanted to force me to present a piece I didn't like in front of the school. Because it wasn't for a grade, he legally couldn't do that, and I had really bad anxiety, I just threw it in the trash while saying no for the seventh time. He looked at me and said, "wow, real mature" to which I responded "I'm 12. I don't have to be mature." Not the best response, but an absolute power move. I had a math teacher who decided she only liked 5 students and handed them passes that said she would only teach them and the rest of us would fend for ourselves. The administration backed this decision that "I don't have to teach you if I don't want to." Pretty much my entire middle school was a horror show.

I don't remember much really bad for myself, but my mom did tell me a story for when she was in elementary. Apparently there were several kids who had her first name. She, trying to be helpful suggested calling her by her middle name. The teacher called on her using the middle name. My mom had never gone by her middle name. She was used to it yet. Instead of being understanding the teacher said something along the lines of "look at Ellen. She gives a suggestion but won't even respond to it" my mom said it made her cry.

Year 12 Creative Art students were required to have completed 3 major artworks by the first day of school, I did mine and the Art teacher said she liked them and I could move ahead. Folio check in week 6 where the class had to have done 9 artworks each, and she checked the day before for final adjustments. Said 3 of mine (the three that were done for the beginning) were garbage and looked like something a Year 8 would do (Full watercolor background with acrylic paint animals in the foreground), and that I would need to completely redo all of them by the time they were due the next day, rather than telling me her issues to begin with. I had a panic attack working on them 20 minutes later, was crying and almost passed out in the room, and then she fought me and couldn't understand why I dropped out of the subject the next week. This also forced me to join Modern History, which I hated, 7 weeks late, having missed and failed an entire assignment, leaving me barely passing the subject.

My drama teacher in high school was a POS. She was basically untouchable because the theater program did really well and would get a lot of great publicity for the school. One time in class I wanted to show a clip from a movie for a project. It had a lot of cursing, so, by her order, I asked everyone if they were ok with a lot of foul language. Everyone was fine. Not a minute into it, she yelled at me to turn it off. I tried to stand up for myself, saying that she said it was ok as long as it was ok with the class, and her come back was to say that this was obviously a personal thing that I had against her and brought up a private journal entry that I had done for a project (about how I was getting so much more from theater classes outside of school than the less than nothing I was getting from her). This same teacher told my best friend to "go slit your wrists like you did your sophomore year" after she, again, stood up for herself (she said this to her when no one else was around)

My 6th, and maybe 7th, grade math teacher was HORRIBLE. Not in the abusive, mean way, he just didn’t do his job. He’d give us packets to do after telling us to go to a math website and doing things we had never done before. He basically just made us learn it ourselves. The days he didn’t give us anything to do, (which was often, maybe once a week) he’d just put a movie up. That was a horrible 1-2 years.

I have Asperger’s syndrome and I wear noise muffling headphones because noises are loud and scary. One teacher wouldn’t let me wear them because he thought I was listening to music and made me take them off during class. When I started freaking out because it got to loud he made fun of me and sent me to the principal’s office for disrupting the class. He got fired.

When I was in about fourth grade a teacher asked us to hold onto a math test and bring it back in a few weeks. I kept everything in a little wire mesh "in" box at home and kept it there. I told my siblings and as a joke my brother swiped it. A few weeks later, the teacher asked us to return the paper the next day and kept everyone after class who did not return the paper to her that day (never knew why it was so important). Then.. she had us all line up, bend over and used a paddle on us. Her keeping us after meant we all missed our bus and I had no one to come pick me up, so I sat there on the school stoop, with my little behind hurting from the harsh paddling and I just cried. I remember my big sister coming back to look for me and then walking me home. My mom could not believe what happened, went to the school and gave her "what for". It gave me trust issues, I was so angry at my brother who also felt really bad and etc. Oddly the woman moved next to us a few years later, and my mom went over and beat her up. I mean.. fists.

There is something called the "Peters Principle." It states people keep getting promoted until they reach their own level of incompetence. Many school administrators were decent teachers but reached their system's salary ceiling and so were promoted to admin. Unfortunately, the skill set necessary to be good at one rarely transfer well to the other.

They should do psychological testing on applicants for teaching jobs- some of them sound downright sadistic. I had to take a very extensive psych test before going into nursing school, but some did not pass.

I have always been into art and I was known for this all through elementary school. I was “the art-kid” basically and the top of the class. In 8th grade, our old teacher was forced to quit because the schools had cut down on her hours so much that she couldn’t afford to keep working there. Instead a new woman took over for her and this teacher absolutely HATED me - mainly because I wasn’t afraid to question her during lessons (something the previous teacher encouraged). I immediately went from being top of the class to absolute bottom and she claimed that this was because I wasn’t doing the assignments like she wanted me to. Last semester of 9th grade, I had moved to another city and started a new school. The art teacher of this school pulled me aside one day and asked me what was up with my grades from the previous school. She was shocked that my grades were so poor when I had shown I’m class from the start that I deserve top grades and she couldn’t figure it out.

I explained to her what had happened with the previous teacher and she was horrified. Unfortunately for me, because of how short of a time she had been teaching me, she was unable to open assign me the final grade that she thought I deserved because the jump between grades would be too big and would be questioned if she did. She still raised my grade as far as she could though. Still, that year with that teacher who hated me really ruined art for me.. It has never been the same since..

In 3rd grade I had another girl beating me up for money, tore my shirt under my overalls. Told the coach that was supposed to be watching over everyone, he says yeah so did you give her the money? no because I'm never given any money. Then he says so I guess you had a beating coming

I had an art teacher when I was 10 or 11, who failed a piece of work I handed in on time. When I asked her why (for goodness sake it was art class!), she said it's because I drew a clown that was crying, and clowns must smile.

One of our teachers used to make fun of the kids with ADHD and announce when they took their meds. And one made fun of me because I couldn't figure out a step in a dance/ school play.

They made me go to school a year later than I was supposed to because I had trouble pronouncing certain phones - despite the fact I could already read and write which I learned by listening and watching my two years older sister. First year was literal hell. I was bored because I knew everything and my teacher straight up bullied me. She moved me around the class like a zillion times because I was supposedly disturbing everyone and in the end I ended up separated at "special" extra added desk (we call it oslovská lavice for the biggest deliquents) in front of board, where she could keep an eye on me all day long. She wrote notes to my parents at least twice a week about almost everything she felt like she could punish me for - like briefly looking out of a window, doing homework at school in advance or simply helping other pupils. I hate that b***h to this day. She suppressed all my ambitions, because I'm not supposed to be better or ahead. I never quite got over it

In 4th grade, as math lessons got a little bit harder, I had to struggle with it. Earlier I had never any problems with any subject, but in 4th grade math got a little harder with multiplication and all that, so I needed a little help. If someone had just taken the time to explain one or several ways of thinking when dealing with multiplication, I would've been just fine on my own after that. My teacher however thought that since I didn't already understand it completely on my own as the other kids did, there was no point for her trying to explain it to me either. That was her reason for not helping me, plus, it really wasn't fair that I took that much of her time. Needless to say, I fell far behind and barely made it to HS and college, once there I dropped out and eventually finished college as an adult. That teacher was awful to other kids too, a boy in my class needed extra help with English and the teacher refused and also showed zero tolerance and patience when he studdered.
