I'd be surprised if that was really the derivation. More likely just an adaptation of "wrap it up" like a package ready for delivery. There is documentation that "wrap it up" was used very early in the film industry - early enough that word formation from acronyms was pretty rare. It is good to remember that most etymologies based on acronyms are later creations to explain what already existed - see "golf", "posh", etc.

Most places in Australia you don't need a key and lock. Although most L boxes sold have a loop and tongue so you can use one.
