You can do it. Few more clicks in MS software, and default in Libreoffice. Don't use MS stuff.

So you don't know how Onedrive works. It saves a local copy on your computer, and copies it to the cloud. The file remains in place. If local drive fails, you have a backup in the cloud (and yes, my theory is MS also reads :D ) But you can build your own cloud at home (Nextcloud). So the data remains in place and you have a backup.
