Székesfehérvár is a city in Hungary, which has several landmarks – there is one of them, which is maybe less known, the Mine Lake (Bányató) – but it’s a really enjoyable, calm place in the city. Actually it’s not hidden, not “secret”, but I can say, not as crowded as other places where tourists go.

In Székesfehérvár, there are some lakes, but this has a special history. There was a rock mine at the place in the beginning of 1900’s, but in 1917, it was suddenly flooded, during one night :D All mining equipment is still under the water, but since then, the city has got a new attraction.

After the new lake was formed, the citizens brought special birds to the area. There are swans, but not only the white – black swans swim on the lake. Teals, chinese swans, hungarian black ducks, turtles, and some other species also live here.

And the place is specially beautiful. Székesfehérvár is not a land of mountains, but this lake has a rocky shore, with the old building of the mine at one side, trees around the lakeside, and so on. Yes, it could be more well-groomed, but now it has something more natural feeling with the untouched scrubs on the top of the rocks.

A restaurant and a pub also can be found next to the lake, so it’s a perfect opportunity to grab a drink and sit next to the water, watching the cute ducks. You can also go fishing here, as a lot of citizens do.

You can find some pictures of the lake and the birds below :)
