Thinking of taking a trip somewhere? Then you might not want to fly United Airlines. Not unless you want to get your ass kicked that is. Because as you might already be aware, the airline is currently weathering a storm of controversy after disturbing video footage emerged of them violently removing a man from an overbooked flight from Chicago to Louisville, US.
The video shows the man refusing to disembark the aircraft after United announced that four people had to give up their seats. Despite declaring that he was a doctor who had patients to attend to, the airline had law enforcement wrestle the man from his seat before dragging him bruised and bloodied off the plane. I HAVE A SUGGESTION FOR UNITED......INSTEAD OF CHECKING THE LUGGAGE, WHY NOT CHECK IN THE PASSENGERS AND PLACE THE LUGGAGE IN THE CABIN. NO NEED FOR FLIGHT ATTENDANTS, FOOD ETC. THE LUGGAGE CAN'T FIGHT. PROBLEM SOLVED. INFINITELY MUCH CHEAPER.

Yes, that is true about what volunteer means. What a horrible stunt United pulled on this passenger. It was sheer brutality. United has some further explanation that is needed in this instance. You can't treat customers this way and get away with it!

I am very very disappointed at how i was treated on the phone today.......by United Airlines. After seeing a video clip on the news i phoned them up, and i was polite and courteous, and asked if i could please get a price on how much it would cost to get my brother in law beaten up and dragged screaming off a plane. I even tried to explain to them that he was an obnoxious drunk and it would be best to get him early . I received very poor service in my opinion, so i shall not deal with them any further

It's true, yes, but it's because the crew needed to fly another flight out of the destination city. They weren't just flying for fun or a vacation, it was so they could crew a different flight and it happens all the time and it's absolutely a necessary thing (though the way they treated the passenger was obviously not okay... they should have offered more money to find volunteers).

I am still outraged. I think we all feel for this man, but the "funny part" is the lack of appropriate response from United... they should have been mortified but tried to pass it off like it was an everyday occurrence.

... actually it would had costed a lot less than that if they offered a little more than $800 they offered for voluntary ceding the seat. I doubt that there would not be anyone who would accepted $1500 or so. But they were greedy and resorted to what they did. Paying $250.000.000 to save $800 is priceless. Literally, the policy...you "volunteer" by either walking off or being dragged out and beaten so someone they deem more important like staff can have that seat. They were not overbooked because paying customers were in their seats. Just shows that you are truly second class when you pay for second class and anything can happen to you.

The service is great, because ME3 treats their stewardesses horribly. They are terrified! ME3 treats the girls like cattle, and punishes them for any complaint they receive, legitimate or not. Have you ever flown these airlines before? The crew are International (lots of Europeans and Asians) and are great people who are trained to the highest standards of the profession. They're also amongst the best paid in the industry. Unless you have proof, please don't demean or denigrate such professional aircrew making them look weak and pathetic out of prejudism on your part. It's folk like you who continue to make excuses for the pathetic standards found in the American airline industry that holds the industry back from ever improving.

As a result of this incident, a 69-year-old doctor has a concussion, a broken nose, and missing teeth due to POLICE BRUTALITY. If we learned anything from 9/11, it is that large numbers of passengers must take down the thugs (aka hijackers.) This is no different. What are the thugs (aka cops) going to do -- machine gun everyone to death?

To avoid empty seats, airlines often sell tickets to more people than the plane can seat, hoping several people will not show. When there are still too many passangers, airlines offer vouchers or cash for the ones willing to reschedule their plans. But usually before everybody boards.
