While you wouldn’t be wrong to say that places like TikTok and Reddit provide quite a bit (absolute understatement) of stuff to consume, you’d probably be surprised how much equally entertaining stuff is out there on places like Zillow.
Because this is the internet and everything by default is a thing, real estate listings that have an it factor are by definition on the table just like anything else you’d find anywhere else. Weird, funny, flashy, excessive, randomly generated—you name it, it’s probably out there. And also in this list now.

It’s Been A While Since We’ve Seen A Nice Victorian So Here’s A Nice Victorian In New Hartford $595,000
This is absolutely gorgeous and shockingly lower priced, considering the condition and location of the house, current real estate market.
That would be fine for me. "Haunted" only concerns supersticious people
Load More Replies...Is it haunted? How many people died there? Why is this absolutely gorgeous house being priced so shockingly low?
Heck I live in a Victorian town in upstate NY and it would be 5 Mil here if not more lol
Load More Replies...Me thinks if this price is right the back off it must have caved in totally. With housing prices everywhere this can't be right or something is tremendously wrong with it.

The Iconic Home From The @netflix Show @sexeducation Is For Sale For £1,500,000 In Herefordshire On 1.83 Hectares
This looks far more like a house meant to actually be lived in. I like that the rooms are different colors.
Agreed. Rooms ought to be different colors <3
Load More Replies...Yup, I could see myself living here. Only in my dreams, of course, but still....
It's on the river Wye, just near Symond's Yat! A footpath goes past the door on the way to the pub!
Houses come in all shapes and sizes. And saying all is likely not too far off from being accurate. Mathematically speaking, there are an estimated 2.3 billion houses on this planet. There’s bound to be at least that many different shapes and sizes of them. At the very least, there’s quite a bit of variety. Let’s leave it at that.
I’m Not Saying This 1898 Victorian Is My Most Favorite Zillow Gone Wild House Ever But This Is My Most Favorite Zillow Gone Wild House Ever And It Comes With A Few Surprises??? $4,500,000
I wonder where this is located, as well as if I can drive/ride on the train? Awesome vintage carousel that has been nicely taken care of.
Lexington, Illinois . Home is for sale under realtor.com. Small town.
Load More Replies...Query here... What makes a property in the US a 'Victorian'? In the UK, Victorian properties are those built during Queen Victoria's reign. The US don't have sovereign eras the way we do, so how can they name their properties in that way? 🤔
In North America, "Victorian" is used to describe the style and aesthetic of the home. Lots of embellishment on the exterior, towers, wraparound porches, gingerbread wainscoting. Inside, they tend to be equally ornate with high ceilings, fancy crown molding, winding staircases, etc.
Load More Replies...My biggest concern would be that spiral staircase. I lived in a home with a spiral staircase when I was an pre teen and everyone in my family slipped and fell on them more than once.
I Don’t Think We’ve Ever Seen A 50s Home And This One Is Still Very 50s And Even Have Has 50s Appliances But The Coolest Thing May Be These Old Gadgets In The Workshop $174,950
Looks like a movie set. I feel like I would be putting a leg lamp next to the window.
Totally. That tank of a fridge was made to last. Unlike the computerized c**p that's on the market now.

I’m going to pretend I have this kind of money for a mo - this is really reasonable given the amenities. Ok, back to peasant mode.
And it’s not just the number that’s baffling, but also the variety of houses. While everyone agrees on what a house is in essence, every house is still a result of a number of factors, ranging from taste to function to practicality, all falling somewhere on the spectrum of subjective to objective… the possibilities for house manifestations are endless at this point.
Perfect Timing For This Listing After Last Weeks News $1,890,000
I think they did an amazing job picking a theme and they executed it perfectly all throughout this ware'house' that they call home. I've dreamt about having such a cool room like the spaceship since I was kid, my introvert self would never leave.
Oh, the UFO landed behind the sofa. The idea is cute, but they tried too hard.
Except, for some reason, Americans seem unable to spel the word "hangar", because both the song and the 1980 movie use the proper noun, but the house has it mispelled to "hanger". How hard is it to do a proper spell check?

Why Have A Swimming Pool When You Can Turn It Into This? $340,000
That's a great way to repurpose what was once a pool area, instead of using it for skating or having to fill it in.
What happens when it rains though? I imagine drainage would be a problem
Load More Replies...It's rather sad that the man cave feels more welcoming and livable than the main house. Then again, if the house showed any sort of personality, potential buyers would come in and whine that "Ooh, I don't like the wall color!" Because that's the most important thing to look at when buying a house. 🙄😮💨
So, in NC they have a tendency to build dams in places that will flood entire towns. There are multiple man made lakes in my area that have entire towns below water (as an aside, I’ve always wished I had the ability to scuba and see these underwater towns in person but my asthma and anxiety over swimming in anything but a pool prevents this). I see this pool turned bar and all I can think is, why couldn’t you have both?
Houses can be unorthodox for a number of reasons. With older ones, it’s a historical legacy that might define what it is. Like this one house in Missouri looks like any other ordinary house, save for the fact that it has a very functional jail in it. Apparently, back in the late 1800s, the house was built for the town sheriff and thus was equipped with 9 cells, just like firefighters would live in fire stations.
This Former Cincinnati Church Has A Very Gothy Exterior And A Really Cool Interior? From What I Understand From The Listing There Are 3 Separate Living Areas Within The Former Church And The Main Home Is Pretty Pretty Pretty Pretty Good? $1,649,000
It's pretty well done, except per for the black painted exterior. Too hot come summer.
Sorry but this looks like someone just threw random furniture into a warehouse
It's so weird for me to see a decommissioned church. In my country, if they build a church, the church is here to STAY. For millennia if necessary. If it gets destroyed, a new one will be built on top of it. You can't get rid of them once they pop out.
1) I would hate to wash the windows and 2) don't do that to the beautiful organ - the neon sign hanging from it is garish.
You couldn't hang in your jammies. It would feel like a sin, particularly if the jammies show body parts.
if the organ can be played then sign me the heck up i've always wanted to just be able to play a church organ all creepy like. xD

I like the fireplace, all the curved wood used in the walls and ceilings, and the pool.
Oh, wow. I don't think I could live in this house, but I'd love to walk through it just once.
A bit much for a permanent residence, but as a hotel or community center or something maybe...
I would never put books that low to the floor, or a bed so far into the corner when you have all the space of the world. I do like some of its features but find them confusing also.
I like the painting, the rugs, and the bookshelves.
As someone who really enjoys the extremely unique with a passion, I find this one too normal
Some houses are actually castles. Yep, this family-sized castle, dubbed the Helmer castle after violinist Max Helmer, in Michigan was listed for sale and sold for a bit over $500,000 back in 2021. Sure, you might not necessarily be a king or queen (or are you?!) but you can still enjoy a bit of medieval luxury.

This looks like an awesome house! Lots of dusting, though.
With some choices of homes, it seems like the architect simply hit the Generate Randomly button and called it a day because there isn’t much that you can say if you have a mini golf course, cave interiors, a Marilyn Monroe theme, unconventional elevation, or even a merry-go-round running in your house.

Load More Replies...I- I can't quite tell what's going on here. Is it an Aztec temple? An Anasazi cave house? A rainforest grotto? My brain doesn't want to work with all this dissonance.
Does it come with scorpions, lizards and snakes or do you have to pick them up upon move in?
There's all that faux(?) rock, adobe, and cave painting, and then suddenly the blue room with the ping pong table/pinball/foosball. Doesn't even seem like part of the same house.
Agree, they should have stayed with the theme especially as they are already in really deep

Love all the vintage art/photos of beautiful women throughout the home. Would have to do some renovations because I do not love orange as much as the previous owner of the home.
I think it's only the one woman- lots of Marilyn. But if it was multiple vintage women throughout that would be super cool.

Load More Replies...OK, so, historical legacy and maybe having too much money aside, there’s always the reason of taste. Considering there are over 8 billion people out there, each would have something that they’d want in a home. Again, taste doesn’t really explain why there’s amusement park equipment inside your house, but I guess you can’t argue on matters of taste.

Never seen a backyard quite like this one. I could have driven by this house daily for years and I never would have guessed what was behind the front door. This would have def been the house that all the neighborhood kids would hang out at.
woah!!!! kids would love their parents for this!
Yet, other homes are built to serve a particular function. This does overlap with the idea of having a literal jail inside your basement area, but it’s in general an idea of a house being useful as more than just a home. A portion of your house can be dedicated to a venture (a bakery or store front) or even be designed to be rented as a film set or studio. In fact, there’s an entire profession dedicated to scoping these places out.

He was quite a fixture here in the desert while living in this fabulously decorated home, which was the epitome of chic luxury back in the day. Mr. Stephan was also known for his flashy wardrobe, and he took great pride in decorating his abode in his favorite color (red!). Not only was Mr. Stephan the go-to plumber for the who's who of Palm Springs, but he was also incredibly social and known for the numerous parties and card nights he hosted at this house, which was made for entertaining!" -- Zillow Gone Wild
It would cost too much to reupholster every item in this red monstrosity.
I could be wrong, but $1.85 million seems really low for a well-mantained (if eye-wateringly decorated) mid century modern in Palm Springs, CA. I would've imagined the price tag to be more in the $5 mil range.
I love it. Very Jayne Mansfield. Although. It would be a pain to clean, especially in the desert with all that dust. No matter how sealed up it is, it will get dusty.

You have to provide amazing amenities to make up for the straight up prison vibes from the architecture.
Whatever the case is, if you boil it down to the bare bones of the definition, you can practically say a house is just a place to keep your stuff. Well said, George Carlin.
So, that is ultimately the function of a house—to keep your stuff. It doesn’t have to be anything more than that, and that is fine.

Likely an old armory from the 1870s or so. Look up the history of that era. Boston has one of these, called the "Saunders Castle". It's a conference center now.

And speaking of stuff, there are a number of recommendations for things to have around the house—like, absolute musts. So, you can get by with essentially under roughly 100 things at your house, including furniture, appliances, tech, tools, and other conveniences. And while you can minimize it by skipping some accessories, emergency-related things like alarms might be mandated by law, so keep an eye on that.

OK I'll bite, what is the "one thing"? I do see several things that the house doesn't need though.

However, in the end, it doesn't matter what someone else's home looks like in the end, as long as they like it. However, the problem is times like this, when you try to sell a house that is very specifically *you*.
