Meet the man dubbed “Animal Whisperer,” a photographer and adventurer who’s mastered the art of taking selfies with exotic animals. Originally from Ireland, Allan Dixon has been travelling around the globe to capture smiling snaps with kangaroos, quokkas, camels, sea lions… you name it!

Having started in 2015, he now has quite a solid collection of funny and light-hearted snaps that won the heart of the internet. But the purrfect selfie isn't just all fun and games, and it could take “'anywhere between five minutes to three hours of being in the animal’s presence' to take the perfect selfie,” Allan told us.

So let’s dive deep into Allan’s wondrous world of the animal kingdom where each selfie reveals how much humans and animals really have in common. The smiles, the facial expressions, the genuine joy you cannot fake… Be sure to upvote your favorite ones! And be sure to check out our previous post with snouts and smiles from Allan's selfie collection.

Bored Panda reached out to Allan, the creator of these incredible animal selfies, to find out what it takes to make one, as well as to see what he’s been up to lately. Allan said that throughout the years, his project has become way more than just animal selfies.

“My selfies have gotten animals adopted, helped conservation, and raised tens of thousands in donations. It means everything to me and has become my life. Purposeful stuff that gives you a feeling that you are making a difference,” he said.

Today, Allan gets messages from people saying they want to work with animals and conservation. “To them I say, anyone can do it, reach out and offer your help. Even if you can inspire one person to make a change, you're on the right path.”

He’s also up for adoption. Unfortunately he lost the use of his back legs in a car accident. Most countries would straight up euthanize the animal but in Thailand they give life a chance to flight and help rehabilitate the animal

Allan urges everyone to remember that behind every cute animal pic surfing around the internet, there are real animals who need help from us. “They're cute and hilarious, also animal content is the lifeblood of the internet, people love 'em. But not enough people are making a real-life difference to help animals. Either through their business, volunteering, helping with conservation, or donating their money or skills. Give, people, you’ll find so much enjoyment!”

When asked how Allan approaches the animals he takes selfies with, he said that if it’s a domesticated animal, dog, goat, etc. sometimes food or treats are involved. “But that usually makes the animal go crazy, which will lose their relaxation. If you've ever tried to get your dog to sit still.”

Right now, Allan is in the process of publishing a quokka selfie book that goes into a lot of details about this and it will be available early September 2021 on Quokkas.co. “Very excited about that.,” he added.

A Future Request, To Help Combat Trophy Hunting Please Shame Those Who Do It

A Future Request, To Help Combat Trophy Hunting Please Shame Those Who Do It

How in the world anyone can hunt such large beautiful animals is beyond me.
-
An interesting observation is that the widespread 'shaming' of trophy hunters that has occurred online since Cecil  might have also decreased trophy hunting (or at least the boasting online, itself feeding back to decrease the activity). If the psychological drive in killing is the achievement, 'hunting for status', then shaming them is an effective strategy for those opposed. This is because shaming tends to erode the status that trophy hunters appear to be seeking

You won't find many in Canada who will merely trophy hunt a moose. Moose meat is a much sought-after wild meat, and our Native peoples hunt them and use every part of the animal. Trophy hunting is more for lions and elephants and exotic creatures who are endangered and whose carcasses have little use other than making a small-dicked loser feel like he has big d**k energy for a few minutes. We really don't like people messing with our mooses.

Meanwhile, the adventurer said that he’s been putting more focus on business and YouTube lately. “Of course I’ll still be taking animal selfies, but the whole Covid thing has really messed up people's travel plans.” Allan added that there’s also “the biggest project of all” coming, which he cannot really talk about right now. But he assured us that “it’s gonna bring wildlife to the mainstream,” so stay tuned!

This Little Koala Named Ralph Has A Second Chance

This Little Koala Named Ralph Has A Second Chance

Rescued during the fires and now being cared for at Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park. Unbelievably they raised $2.6 million in their rescue and rehabilitation efforts for wildlife on the island. So financially I think they’re fine. Even the Australian Army arrived to build a new animal hospital and enclosures to house the koalas in care. They have treated over 600 koalas in the last three months.⁣

Some more facts,⁣
Last week they released 104 koalas back into the wild which is amazing! They currently have 15 baby koalas in round the clock feeding and care. Soon to be scheduled for training, soft release then release. So not all is lost, there is hope from this bushfire.

Unicorns actually did exist and went extinct. They were horses with horns, but they didn’t posses magical powers.
