The Opposite Of Design Fails: 50 Of The Most Brilliant Design Ideas That People Have Ever Shared In This Online Group (New Pics)
Over the years, we at Bored Panda have released quite a few pieces on subpar design. And while these publications are incredibly fun to prepare and scroll through (just take a look at this one), we need to balance them out a little. After all, not every designer is an incompetent 3-year-old. Some of them are 4... light-years ahead of the competition.
There's a subreddit that features high-quality images of interesting designs, including architectural, graphic, industrial, furniture, and product design, and even though we already covered it once, there are so many gems on it, we need to do a follow-up. From a restaurant half-sunken into the sea to a suitcase that can measure its own weight, continue scrolling and check out the best that human ingenuity has to offer.

We, regular users, usually see just the finished product. But there's so much more that goes into actually creating them. To learn more about design, we contacted Nicole Phillips, who has been working in the design industry since 2005 and has a background in fine arts and advertising. Phillips specializes in logo design, branding, and package design for food & beverage, beauty, health, and interior design clients, and for each project, her work is unique and never linear.
"The design process requires research, experimentation, and even a bit of psychology," Phillips told Bored Panda. "When I feel frustrated with the process, I remind myself to take a step back, have fun and play. It's those moments of play and experimentation that usually create the best results, but it's those hours of research that help build the foundation for the final result."
"My clients are not paying me for my time, they are paying me for my many years of experience, so if I am able to complete the design process in 5 hours rather than 5 weeks, this is a sign of my years of experience and knowledge, this is valuable," she added.

Trying to determine whether or not a particular design is good, many turn to Dieter Rams and his '10 commandments.' According to Rams, good design is innovative, makes a product useful, is aesthetic, makes a product understandable, is unobtrusive, is honest, is long-lasting, is thorough down to the last detail, is environmentally friendly, and involves as little design as possible.
Nicole Phillips agrees with the German design legend.
"Good design includes a good balance of function, form, and fun," Phillips said. "The user shouldn't have to try too hard to get what they need from the design. Good design isn't just aesthetics, it should communicate well and push boundaries a bit. Good design solves problems."
To paraphrase Don Draper from Mad Men, it's simple but significant.

This is a great idea - and Kelvinator (I think) did something similar in the 1950s. The problem is that it takes up a HUGE amount of space in the kitchen. The doors need so much space that it's not very practical.

Wow! So pretty! The hotel AND the northern lights. I rlly want to go there but with the virus, it will be a while.
I've been lucky enough to stay there. Total bucket list. Walt Disney on his best day couldn't capture the magic of Christmas like the resort does. And for those who think they might get there and it's cheesy or poorly done, its not - it exceeds all expectations. What's also interesting is that it is an Artic Artist colony. Every year the owner flies in 20 artists and pays for their room and board. In return, each artist creates sculptures and all kinds of cool art that is spread across the resort for guests to enjoy.

Now wait just a minute - Lapland is in Sweden, surely? I’m a swede, and I’ve got some rudimentary idea of the map at least. This igloo hotel though is in Finland and now I’m just very confused. Maybe I should eat some ice cream and try to get my grip on reality to stabilize again.

These igloos are so expensive that they're considered luxury in Finland. I could afford them but I don't want to spend huge amount of money to experience them but for someone who finds snow and aurotas exotic they're worth the money for sure.
This one place is definitely on my bucket list! How I long for a far away adventure!! I've heard they have day long get aways with tour guides when u go there.
This looks like fun. I must say, though, it reminded me of that photo of a polar bear resting on her front shoulders with a cub on her back. Looks comfy and settled in for the long haul. Nose almost sticking into the entry of a igloo. I laughed out loud I'm so mean.

I've watched a documentary on the building of an ice motel. It's built every year and the ice for the following year is started immediately after the demolition of that one. I believe it's in Finland but I could be mistaken. It's been several years since I watched it. It was very interesting. EVERYTHING is made from ice, even the shot glasses in the bar. When you rent one of the rooms, they give you heavy animal skins to use on the bed, which is entirely made of ice. It looks pretty wild to stay there.

Theres a faucet at the Cheyenne mountain zoo hippo and penguin exhibit restrooms that are three in one, it's a horizontal faucet, one part dispenses water, the middle part dispenses soap, and the other is air dry
I saw quite a few 2 in 1 recently in the airport, shaped a bit like airplane: middle part provides water, and the side parts work as air dry. There is no rounded plane shapes, simply the style (middle tube, and two tubes to the side from the middle of water one)

Why did jesus supposedly heal some lepers in the stories, but he didn't cure the disease leprosy itself? Some people still suffer with leprosy to this day. Was he incompetent? Evil? Just wants certain people to suffer? Science has largely cured the disease leprosy. Thank scientists! Can you name a disease god has cured? Science has actually cured a number of diseases. Do you have any evidence that any gods even exist? How is jesus god's only son? Aren't we all supposedly created in god's image? Didn't god create Adam and Eve?
