As we grow and develop, our perspectives and opinions tend to change, often making us view some things completely differently than we used to; and that applies to everything, from favorite pasta to reading books, and beyond.

One common thing that people tend to view differently as children is people themselves. When you’re a kid, a 20-something-year-old might seem like they know what they’re doing, when you’re a teen, a 35-year-old might look old, and when you’re a freshman in high school, seniors might appear to be so much cooler than they often are.

Members of the ‘Ask Reddit’ community discussed views similar to the latter, after one user asked them what was something that seems cool in the eyes of most high schoolers but is actually cringe. Fellow redditors came up with many answers, including “high schoolers” themselves, so scroll down to find them and see what other things people have grown out of or into as they closed the awkward chapter of the high school years.

I think this happens because they want validation from adults because they're used to being treated like children because really they are.

30 People Share Cringe Things High Schoolers Do While Thinking It's Cool Worrying what other people think. The concept of “cool” in the first place.

My brother and I (in our early 30s) were watching a group of teenagers trying so hard to put on this cool, unemotional facade at Disneyland while everyone else around them just enjoyed themselves and we were laughing to ourselves that teenagers are so afraid of displaying emotion or passion and nobody else cares. But we all went through it, and we all reach the realization that it’s more fun to just enjoy ourselves.

There is a lot of weird self diagnosing and misinformation about health going on on ticktock. “I never knew I had X until I found d this informative account!” No, you just found someone who told you what you wanted to hear and validated you. You did not find researched information about X.

It's not the teens' fault when they're being fed misinformation by grown a*s adults. (sometimes they don't genuinely believe they have the disorder(s) they claim to and in those cases, they are obviously at fault)

I've agoraphobia, panic attacks and PTSD. I've been clinically diagnosed after everything that's happened to me over my life and especially the last few years. I work with my doctors and specialists but... It's people who self diagnose and say laughingly that they've PTSD after, like, losing their keys that get to me. You don't know what true PTSD is like. One common trend I've seen with the current teens is they think emotions should be medicated. A symptom is not a diagnosis. ADHD is very rare, but according to tiktok every person in the world is ADHD. You can have symptoms without having the disorder/diagnosis.

My cousin is autistic. For real. Thankfully his mom is patient, kind, and a board certified mphnp, and worked really hard to teach him how to recognize facial expressions and body language. He's still not great at it, but he functions. I want to slap the silly out of every twenty year old I meet that's 'undiagnosed autistic' using it as an excuse to be self centered. There are so many of them.

This is a hard one to figure out, though. I don't doubt that some people fake these sorts of things, but isn't it possible that, as advancements take place in the field, there are also more diagnoses than there used to be because the disorders are...easier to diagnose? It's a muddled grey area that can leave people skeptical of those who actually have disorders.

Actually i blame family therapists/parents. Apparently autism is a "spectrum" because EVERYONE literally has it today. SO many scientific sounding names to excuse the kid for being non-disciplined, spoiled, and entitled. If we give bad behavior a title we can then prescribe a medication and use it as an excuse for hen they get into legal trouble.

This is so far from true. You know pain is a spectrum, right? Yeah, lots of people have pain but not everyone and people in pain don't all have the same type of pain. That's what Autism is or anything that is in a spectrum because people are not identicle. Just like how prescriptions for pain meds are given at different doses for different body and pain type, treatment for autism is the same way; not everyone needs medication, some do, it depends where they are on the spectrum.

I had a grade 9 math class in a portable (basically a trailer outside the school because they had run out of real classrooms) so there was a seemingly sense of more freedom because we weren't in the actual school. My teacher, I hate to say it, was ripe for young jerks to make fun of - picture the principal from Billy Madison. It was a basic math class, people just taking the class because we had to. The class was complete chaos. The whole semester I don't think we learned much of anything about math. He was nice to me. I wasn't one of the trouble-makers. But I still feel terrible about it all. Young and stupid. He never got mad at the verbal assaults against him, the non stop chatter, and people not paying attention...he just nervously laughed and tried to get everyone back on track. It never worked. He was a nice man just trying to do his job. I hate my classmates. He died a few years ago - I wish I could say I'm sorry for what he went through.

This feels progressively out of place as you move into your 30s and beyond.
