My Comic About Capybaras Showcases The Situations Many Of Us Have To Face At Work (34 Pics)
Capybaras deal with awful management, lazy coworkers, and a diminishing will to live.
I used to work in a number of dreadful places, including the aptly named retail hell. I used to write down all the most ridiculous things that happened and was going to share them all in one long post but apparently decided that's too easy. Instead, I opted to learn how to draw digitally and make a comic. I went with capybaras because they are my favorite animal and I thought it would stand out more. Plus, if I'm being honest, they're far easier to draw than people.

Yes. Well, the sooner you STFU and let me get out of your damned office so I can start the work you want done, the sooner I can finish it!
Why does scheduling act like giving me someone to train is a favor because they've given me a second set of hands? Don't they understand it makes things go slower not faster?
Capybaras are highly social creatures and have become well known from videos and pictures online as gentle friends to all others. This friendly demeanor juxtaposes well with the characters in the world of the bookstore: sarcastic, cynical, lazy, clueless... all our human foibles wrapped up in an adorable fuzzy skin.
Indeed! If you chose to not accept it, that's fine, but I still won't be here!
I don't "request" time off. I tell you when I will not be at work as a courtesy, so you can plan for it.
And what if all important person also takes time of there? Then they plan and say that it is not possible and give you compensation for working then.

I learned the hard way that if you aren't standing firm on the time off you need you'll never get the time off you earned. I had one job where my supervisors approved my time off request for 2 weeks 6 months in advance, the company made some changes in that time and felt that they were over staffed in my department, since I was the newest I was moved to a different department under a new supervisor who proceeded to tell me that the time off I had requested ( whick was 1 week away) was going to be rejected because she didn't have time to approve it on such short notice. I said okay but this was approved 6 months ago so either you accept that I will not be here or someone is going to have to reimburse me for everything I already paid, that's hotel rooms, plane tickets, train tickets, seat selections, luggage fees, and it will need to be paid at the going rate of the same trip in 6 months ( Germany in October) which you will approve as part of the compensation for me canceling my trip.
I am being nice by informing you in advance that I will not be working. Be thankful that I am at least giving you time to prepare- assuming you can.
Once told my manager, three months in advance, that I wouldn't be able to work one day because I had a doctor appointment. Told me i was on a team and needed to be there, so I told them I would be sick that day and would be at the doctor getting some meds.
I've always heard the people best suited for management won't take the job

yeah come guys we can’t have the fire marshals smell the fish and decide not to help us. again.
One of my jobs is in a big hospital. When a fire alarm is pulled (which happens at least once a week somehow), we get an intercom message for where it's located. A couple weeks ago the intercom said "fire alarm activated, emergency department break room." Yeah, someone f****d up some popcorn for sure.
My coworkers do all of these except the fire, but I made them aware if the office catches on fire, hold the firemen back at gun point and I'll throw in as many files as I can.
I set the break room on fire once by using foil in the toaster oven. That particular oven mentioned not using foil when it was purchased but the only person who knew this didn't tell anyone until my fire 🤷🏿♀️ I've never heard of such a thing. I've always used for in toaster ovens.
Oh. So I can't set fire to the building? What am I supposed to do with my matches?
I’ve always used dark humor as a coping mechanism and channeled that into my comic. I based some of the personality traits of my characters on real coworkers and bosses I had in the past. No one character is based on a single person but I took aspects of people I know (including myself) and gave them to the characters. I think this helps them feel more real and thus more relatable. Much of the content is based on real experiences I had, as well as stories my coworkers and friends told me. I think at one point or another most people have experienced a terrible boss or lazy coworker and can relate to what it's like.
but what if its shorter and theres no time for speeding without seatbelts?

I know how hard it is to be trapped in a toxic work environment and how isolating it can feel and the very real and harsh effects it has on mental health. I hope my comic will help readers feel less alone and help them find some comfort in the humor. At the very least, I hope they can get some laughs out of it. I would like to eventually expand my artistic endeavors and do other comics on themes like mental health and being an introvert who prefers the great indoors.
For now, my job and Capybaras at Work keep me plenty busy and I look forward to continuing the comic. I also enjoy painting in my free time.

Especially if they pay me not that much that people with better skill would take it.

how to not get fired while getting fired in the process 101
Like my mom and dad when they had me! (this is a joke, don't downvote)
Rearrange all the keys on their keyboard!!! It wouldn't bother me but the one finger typers will quit🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is exactly the conversation I had with my boss yesterday afternoon. People like that do exist in real life... and unfortunately, I seem to work for their queen.
I took 7 years off to take care of my Mom as she battled stage 3 cancer. I have 2 degrees. I can't even get hired at Walmart. 😒
Sorry about your mom. Here's what you put in your resume: You worked as a home care giver for 7 years. You were an independent agent (no boss) for that time frame, and note that your placement was a "per client" basis (client privacy laws, they can't contact clients). If you really want to lay it on thick, get an HHA certification (HHA is basically what you did with your mom anyways). They don't need to know you just got it, and they will probably assume you just got it renewed. Bam! Resume gap solved! I do a type of home care for the state, but I'm not a listed agent, so it's time consuming to verify my employment history. Sometimes I get burned out and I want to go work in a factory for a while. I found out future employers don't check stuff if it's too complicated, and they are easily impressed by certificates.

He just graduated highschool and is going to college, he's looking for a part time job to help pay for the loans but every interview he had reacted negatively to the idea that he has class and wouldn't be able to work for 10 hours a day. One even asked if he could just no go to collage instead. I told him his school has a work program and to focus on doing good at school and they will help him find a job that fits his skills and schedule. Otherwise he's going to have his life drained by a dead end job he never wanted that burned him out so hard he started giving up on what he wanted to do.
I wrote the policy, and left many loopholes for fellow capybaras! Sincerely, the little bestie Capybara
You’ve obviously not been to Starbucks anytime in the last 20 years if you think you can walk out of there with a coffee and doughnut for $5.

And bear in mind, the 'living' wage is rarely enough to do anything beyond continue existing. Actually "living" would require being paid even more.

Wow, what a great joke, definitely not the laziest post you could have possibly done.
That is why bosses need higher wages. They don't do hard work and need another kind of reward.
Praise doesn't pay bills. Remove the "P," and it... will be considered.
Well, here's more work, and we'll let you know when it's time for the web webinar.
*reads the mental health guides and realized I share the same symptoms and feel more depressed*
But we would be understaffed, so if you die, please give a two week notice so we can properly replace you.
Yeah, if you had better ideas, management would take the credit for them, instead of not listening to them!
Very xlnt! Cant top that, except maybe with a top hat.
