Current millennials and to a greater extent Gen Z and Gen Alpha are the first cohort to really grow up with it. In the, now distant, past, an online comment would almost certainly be from an adult. Now it’s hard to tell if the meme that made you chuckle is from a highschooler or pensioner.
The internet, albeit in a completely different form, dates back to the 1960s, where it was used as a time-sharing tool. For the most part, the early internet, to retroactively apply the term, existed as a tool for universities.

If your video is popular, you earn a share of the ad revenue. So it would definitely be possible to make a certain kind of video less visible, thus not allowing it to reach as many people, thus costing the creator money. I have no idea if it actually happened to LGBTQ+ content, but that's how it would work in principle.

After all, online content is so vast that it’s easy to get lost, particularly if you are new. Imagine taking anything from cursed images to just random memes and explaining every joke and reference to an outsider. It would probably be impossible. This is why, for better or worse, there are a cadre of people online who consider themselves internet veterans, immune to rickroling and other forms of messing with someone.

I feel bad that these kids are ridiculed and mocked. Remember Vanessa Black who was ridiculed while she was just still a naive innocent kid? Some of the posts were clearly children who are young. And yes, the internet is a dangerous place, but that doesn't mean we have to add insult/hurt to it to children. They grow up and might be forever bullied for what they did in the past. I don't want to be a bully. Keeping children away from the internet is almost impossible nowadays. So don't hate on kids who said/did stupid things years ago. Hopefully they have grown up and learned from it. Don't chase them with their most embarassing moments.
