To put it mildly, millennials (and to some extent Gen X and Gen Z) aren't fond of baby boomers. Boomers hogged the economy and the world’s resources, we say, and they have no regard for what future generations will inherit.
But when Reddit user u/coolfreeusername asked the question, "Non-boomers ... , what's your most boomer opinion?" it led to a pretty awesome discovery. Turns out, younger generations and baby boomers share quite a few thoughts. Here are some of them.

Very true. Some people genuinely don't believe something happened if you don't post it and brag about it. I had that situation with people convincing me that I didn't accomplish something just because they didn't see photos on social networks and therefore concluded beyond any doubt that the event never occured. The paper proof was not sufficient.
I don't want my damn refrigerator connected to the internet. It has one job.
Just because we have access to instant communication doesn't mean I'm obligated to message you back immediately.
I don't think that it's related to one generation. I know very old people, old, middle aged, young, teenagers that only check once or twice a day. And other people from different ages who are always wanting to answer or write immediately. For example, my father and my mother do opposite, and my two sisters, too.
Just because I disagree with your opinion doesn't mean I hate you, I don't need to agree with everything just to be politically correct. You can still disagree and be cordial. We seem to have forgotten that.
Social Media was a mistake. I genuinely think that it is single-handedly one of if not the most damaging thing to the world that's happened in the past however many years.
No one wants to listen to your music. Turn it down/ roll up your windows, or better yet... both.

I hate how literally everything these days has a stupid app that you need to have in order to use it. Everything from kids toys to freakin cars needs some sort of crappy app these days. Why!? What if you plan on having this item for a long while and the app either gets deleted, gets malware, or just doesn't function due to the company not updating it? You would have to throw it out causing more waste in this world. This is planned obsolescence just disguised as being technologically advanced.

I follow subs on tiktok that are informational the animal videos and some comedic ones and people that make miniatures some cooking ones that are aged 35-to i think the oldest man I follow is in his 80s. I don't ever see anyone dancing or any of the people that are considered famous

People use their phones too much, particularly for texting and social media. Getting upset because your girlfriend/boyfriend hasn't texted you back for a few hours, or hasn't liked your photo, is so unhealthy.
Being on time for casual social events matters.
I generally agree, but it depends on what's standard for your group of friends. For casual get-togethers at my house, my good friends always show up 15 minutes late. That's because they know I'm running around trying to make everything perfect right up to the last minute, and that 15 minutes gives me a chance to sit down and relax for a moment. On the other hand, we invited a couple for dinner a few weeks ago, and they were more than an hour late (with no text, phone call, or apology). I was really annoyed, but they apparently thought it was pretty standard practice. Maybe in their circle of friends it is.
Sending out thank you notes when you receive a gift from someone. My mom was always big on that and I understand why. I bought an expensive gift for my friends birthday and she never messaged me or said thank you for the gift. Saying thank you isn’t that hard and it means a lot to the person.
Cancel culture is stupid. Everyone is stupid when they're young and dumb. You make bad decisions sometimes and the you you are today isn't necessarily the you that you used to be. Social media should have a 7 year mandatory erase period. Any tweet or fb post or whatever disappears after 7 years permanently.
Our society is wayyyyyyy too materialistic. Most people can't go one year without "upgrading" their phone or buying the latest and greatest GPU. Your last year's model will work just fine.

Yes! I grew up before channel 5 and usually something to watch, but with 600+ channels of sky TV I'm often stuck because it's all trash or repeats.
I don't like e-books. I only read books that are printed on paper. It's just much more satisfying.
Ebooks take up less space though. And they allow me to bring an entire library with me on a bus or train.
And they are great for people who travel a lot due to work or studies. Between 23 and 26yo I lived in two cities in Spain, two in the netherlands, one in germany and one in belgium. I cant carry my library around all the time so having an ebook was fantastic. Now that I settled I beought ny childhood books and I am building my library

It IS more satisfying to read a physical book, but if you live in a country with pathetic options of books in English, especially the genres/authors you enjoy, digital is the only option. Lest one is willing to pay ridiculous costs for shipping and import tax.
I completely disagree. Without ebooks and a night mode setting I had difficulty reading. It's more satisfying to be able to read without having to repeat the same sentence over and over.

Eyes don't hurt when using e readers. A smartphone or tablet screens will make your eyes hurt because they flicker. The e ink screens on teh readers don't. It's no different than paper.

Plus I can't stand the bad quality and the smell of US paper backs, so whenever I read US books I actually prefer ebooks.
I do prefer printed books but ebooks take up much less space.
Ebooks have their place, but you cant smell and ebook. Nothing like the smell of and old paper book.
I love paper books, but for someone with myopia, being able to increase the text size and put the book in night mode is really a enormous plus. I was a big reader when I was a child, but read less and less books as my eyesight got worse. Now that I have an ebooks I can enjoy books again. And since vision problems are a common thing among old people, I think preferring paper printed books over ebooks is not really a boomer opinion.
I wouldn't be able to feel comfortable in my home without my books in their book cases and on their shelves. It would feel empty and dead.
You can have both physical books and ebooks. It's not like the ebook-police will come and take your library away if you download kindle... I have a roughly equal spread of both physical and digital.

This one pisses me off; I am and will continue to have my digital library; Yes, I do have some things I don`t like about it like not really owning the books I`m buying from amazon but that`s some different thing. I really do love using an e book reader and to me it`s way more comfortable than a book and I couldn`t even imagine carrying all the books I have on my device as real books
I love e-books. As a voracious reader this is one of the aspects of modern tech I can really get on board with. Walking round with a huge library in my pocket is fantastic 🙂

Disagree. Once you have to move with 500+ books, it's a benefit of having a lot of them on an e reader instead.
I have started using only ebooks since the pandemic, it’s more convenient for me. I read paper books when other people get them for me as gifts though. And they also travel easily, whether it’s my phone or Kindle.
If they were shaped more like books, they’d be much easier to hold too. I can hold onto a paper book for hours, but can’t read a Kindle for long because they make my hands hurt holding them in such a non-ergonomic way.
E books are much more accessible and I can by the latest book in the series without having to wait for the book shop to get them in if they are even published in paper form. I’ve read series that would not be possible if I didn’t have a kindle app on my tablet.

I have two categories of books : one read books ( I've started reading a book, it worths the price of the ebook , I must read it to the end because I can't leave a book unfinished but I will never read it again) , books that deserve to be read again ( I buy the ebook and I liked it, then I buy the paper book , or I received a gift and the book has a sentimental value)
They make it so much easier for folks with vision impairments to read.

When home or a location that I plan on spending some time, I love the feel of a real book in my hands. But e-books have a place too, when out and about it’s less weight in my bag and I can read whatever I’m in the mood for.

I get so many FREE e-books. I'm not talking any sort of club or program. Put "Free" and the genre you read. Then, if you can, sort by cost. There ya go! But yes, I love the smell and feel of a book in my hands

E books are the saviour of people who can't hold a book. Sometimes I can and sometimes I can't, beiing able to read an ebook - or even listen to one on really bad days is wonderful
I can read a book (and comprehend it) in a few days or less. I also travel a LOT. I have lots of print books, but I also have copies of the same on Ebook and lots of other Ebooks as well. Lots easier to put in the purse to pull out at rest stops, camp sites and hotels.
I collect hardbacks and felt this way for a very long time -until, I was reading Game of Thrones. That thing weighed a ton & carrying it on the 3 buses and a trolley to get to work got really old, really quick. I love my Kindle. I've had it for a little over 3 years and have 318 books on it. No way would I have room for those on my already very full bookshelves. And isn't the point to READ?

I'm a book addict and I mean all books including the e-book format. Living in a foreign country, I finally got a Kindle and started to use it instead of waiting for costly shipments of English language novels. I still love real books that you hold best! But, the kindle books have saved me money, time, and space on my over-filled bookshelves.
I got a Kindle because a lot of my authors were doing short stories there for a while and they were only on e-readers. I now have approximately 100 books on mine. It's kinda funny because I get so used to tapping to turn the page that when I read a paper book, I find myself tapping to turn the page. It tickles me every time I do it.

I was the same. And then I got deployed to Afghanistan and turns out, they make your pack a whole lot heavier. So I broke down and bought one that fit in my pant side pocket (like a cargo pocket). Perfect! I had a charger with me and used low light settings. Worked great. I still have my books too.
Iuse both. Grew up on paper but especially wen traveling can have a whole weightless library on my Kindle. I think retention is better with paper books, though.

I do love my Kindle. With a service I have signed up for I can get really interesting books I wouldn't find in a bookstore. And pretty much no book over $3.00. I do like the variety of books I have downloaded so I can go from one to another if I want. Yes. Takes less space. But even with the night setting, if I use it too much it causes eye strain. The really big problem I have is if I want a particular book its way to easy to just buy it when you maybe shouldn't have. A regular book, you have leave the house to go to the bookstore. And there's nothing like wandering through all those books for hours. I also have paper books to go to if my eyes are strained. I'm glad to have the option. I can highlight something easier and go to that easier. Most of all, there's no substitute for turning a page.

Very little in this world is more satisfying, and more frustrating, than reading a great book, on paper. Feeling the thickness of the pages remaining getting thinner and thinner. Do you want it to end? Or go on forever? You can take a paper book places where it could be hazardous to your electronics.
I love my books and my preference is for a printed one but I have an e book as well. They are great if travelling.
I like physical books to flip through, especially when I need to reference something. But ebooks are less expensive, especially with a Kindle Unlimited subscription.
e-Books are probably the one form of electronic media that make real sense especially when it comes to getting younger generations to read more and have access to a large, diverse library where they may not have had otherwise.
I felt the same for a long time and before I got a tablet in 2013. But ebooks take up zero physical space, there are thousands of classics that are free and I can silently read in bed at night without a separate light. They are cheaper too, (but of course cost more than real books used to)
I can't read e-books. Without the ability to flip back to a spot to remember what a character said or did to put context to what is happening at my current place, I can't follow the story. A lot of that is ADHD. I can remember how far back the bit I'm trying to remember was, what side of the book and about how far down the page it is. You can't do that with e-books. It's also why I can't study from e-books or do online classes. I have to have a physical book that I can write on and highlight and flip back and forth in.
Of course you can do that with e-books. Much more easily, actually. You can bookmark the spot, or remember how far it was in the book and scroll to it, or do a keyword search.

That society is slowly putting much more emphasis on people accepting their faults than working on them.
A culture of immediate gratification and excess of creature comforts begets a spoiled population. There's something to be said for the character that can be built through patience and powering through adversity.
I agree about instant gratification and the importance of patience and hard work, but I also think it's important to separate that from this kind of messed up idea western culture has that suffering makes you a better person. There's a difference between instant access to luxury items vs to necessary resources (affordable food, water, shelter, healthcare, and in this day and age, internet. To clarify, I'm not saying everyone needs social media, I'm saying it is nearly impossible to go to school or work today without access to online resources.)

People are way too overprotective of kids these days. It's making for anxious adults who aren't confident in their own abilities.
I grew up underneath a helicopter parent, who was WAY too overprotective. I have to actively force myself to not be that way with my kids. Which, maybe I've swung too far in the opposite direction, but I really want my kids to do things on their own and not be 18 years old on the highway having a panic attack because they don't know what to do with a flat tire (not my finest moment).
I also want to be able to freakin leave my kids in the car for TWO MINUTES while I step inside the gas station to pay for my gas when the card reader outside is down. To me, it's not worth the damned hassle to get both kids out of the car, herd them inside, make sure they keep their sticky fingers to themselves just to pay for gas. I always end up going to a different station if that's the case.
I remember being 8 years old, bored in the grocery store and given my mom's keys to sit in the car and read. Can't do that today, it's child abuse via neglect. Like, come on.
I don't do this things, not because it makes my kids safer, but because it lessens the chance that I'll be investigated for something that I don't think is inherently wrong.

I think the problem is many people crave attention, and doing something ridiculous is the shortest path to get there. I sat down and made two 'good' youtube videos a few years ago. I had no interest in becoming well-known for no reason. I wanted to convey information. A 'like' because you've actually helped convey information to someone is worth 1000x more than a 'like' because you've just entertained someone for a few seconds.
Not everything has to be inclusive of everybody.

Absolutely everything is disposable nowadays. Nothing is made to last anymore. If you find something you like, it'll be worn out in a year and probably not made anymore when you want to buy a replacement.
It's the absolute worst with clothes and kid's toys. With kid's toys, by giving them such disposable toys, it discourages them from being nice with and taking care of their possessions. Why does it matter when it's going to get worn out so quickly and they'll be bought a replacement. I also think it's a shame that these kids won't have their toys to pass on to their own children because it couldn't last.
Fun fact: Jeans originally became so popular because of their durability and affordability. They really appealed to the working-class man whose clothes were constantly getting worn out and didn't have the money to constantly spend on new clothes. Now if you want a pair of jeans of that quality, it's $60+ dollars.

Tattoos are amazing (I have 9) but I agree that ink is art best displayed below the neck. The only exception I can think of is the nape of the neck.
That girls online showing off their bodies to get views isn't a good thing. So many do it. If u just sign up for TikTok for example, it is initially and automatically full of videos of girls showing off their bodies. U gotta keep avoiding those to get it off your fyp. And all of their dances they try and sexualize themselves so people keep watching. I'm 19 btw.

It is so annoying and rude. I feel like people can't even have a conversation that lasts longer than 5 minutes without staring at their phone.
As soon as someone starts looking at their phone while having a conversation, I'm not interested in talking to them anymore.
Obviously it's totally okay if it's something super important, but some people just want to text with others, watch videos and like photos while talking to you.

Before you have kids, you should have at least 1 of the following:

- a house you own

I don't care what anybody does as long as they are not harming anybody else. I'm not even all that concerned about law breakers - if they are not doing anybody else any harm. If they are harming themselves, well, that's their affair.
Doing your own handi-work is rewarding and builds character.
I've noticed a lot of younger people's first response to things breaking or needing to be replaced is to hire a repair person or to just buy a new item, without attempting to fix it with their own two hands. Doing it yourself teaches you a skill that you can use to help your friends and family, makes you smarter and more well rounded, and will also help keep you calm and cool in thr face of life's frustrations. When bad things happen, it's not the end of the world. You've fixed things before and you can learn to do it again.
I'm not suggesting spending hours and hours trying how to handle your own plumbing or electricity, but if your car makes a weird noise, or your walls need a fresh coat of paint or spackle, you can watch a 5 minute youtube tutorial and do it yourself.
We rely on technology too much. If it all crashes one day no one would know what to do and we'd be stuck.
I hate tipping, just pay your workers a fair wage. Also, I live in a state where servers must be paid at least minimum wage unlike some states that can pay less, so tipping is that much more annoying to me.
Communities within neighbourhoods would be lovely. My mum talks about it all the time, but it's something I've never experienced myself. Like, we know our neighbours, but that's about it. I'd love to live on a street or in a suburb where people have little get-togethers (street parties for big events) or just generally know and look out for each other on a more meaningful level.

People's driving is getting progressively worse. I have to honk at someone a few times a week to move at a green light because they have to check Facebook every time they stop.
And it's even more annoying when it appears that they have to check the manual on what to do when the light goes green. " Let's see, it's green. What does a green light mean again? Oh, now I have to drive. Release parking brake? Check. Put your foot on the gas pedal? Check. Push down that pedal an itsy bitsy tiny bit so the car starts moving? Wow, Hey!! I'm moving!!!!" And in the meantime the light has changed to red again.
People take message apps way to personally. Crying over "being left on read" because someone hasn't responded in a couple of hours is just pathetic. Just because somebody hasn't checked their messages in a day doesn't mean they are ghosting you either. Stop trying to normalize your phone addiction by painting people who aren't as addicted as bad people, or accuse them of neglectful behavior or abandonment.
Message apps can be exhausting for some people. Not everyone feels like texting 24/7. If it's a thing that requires immediate response or an emergency, you just call. Phones can do that.
You should not have your butt showing out from under your shorts when you’re out walking with your family or at the grocery store.
Parents giving their little kids iPads to entertain them is so weird, especially on holidays. Just talk to each other or play something together! It just seems like the parents want to get rid of the kid, it can not be good for the poor child's development.
i think it is okay for a short time like 15-30 Min. but not for hours or days. Otherwise the kids won't learn to entertain themself, to use the fantasy or to get in contact with other kids to make friends to play with.
It seems like everyone these days is trying to find their big break as a youtuber/influencer/Podcaster and it's incredibly annoying. People need to realize that you either need to be incredibly skilled, interesting, smart, or attractive before people will want to watch/listen to you talk about stuff.

Unnecessarily loud cars
The only boomer opinion I can see myself having is understanding the value of a good orthopedic bed and pillow (my grandad used to talk about this a lot). My chronic pain kicks the crap out of me unless I'm comfortable.
I’m sorry that you’re living in chronic pain especially nowadays when intractable pain patients cannot get the relief they need by taking medicine that can help them a lot because of the opioid epidemic issue. I think the one thing everybody takes for granted no matter what their generation is their health and well-being. You’re never guaranteed a tomorrow
Most films have absolutely no need to be more than 2 hours long. 90 minutes can be plenty.

I absolutely despise social media, it’s wrecked peoples’ attention spans and it shows, you can’t even go to the bar or gym with people without them totally ignoring something you say because they’re on their phones checking Instagram or some other pointless trash, and these are the same people saying I’m rude because I don’t respond to messages instantly, take a look in the mirror lol, not like I have a life outside of my phone or anything…
It’s not just the people I know, I see it all the time, I’ve been cutting down my usage of all social media because now I just think “what’s the point in this?” it’s just people I don’t give a shit about in real life sharing absolute garbage. I only have Facebook, Twitter and reddit and can barely stand those three, I go on every now and then but it doesn’t last long, rather spend my time doing something I actually enjoy instead of clicking on random posts to get a quick dopamine hit.
People have to want to help themselves if they want to do better in life.
This is absolutely true, but it's important to distinguish between 'wanting to' and 'being able to.' Everyone should want to help themselves, even if they or their community lack the ability to see it through.

A lot of music isn’t as good anymore, but rap is REALLY starting to lose its touch. it’s just a bunch of mumbling, same lyrics, flow and beat, etc etc . little to no creativity is put into rap nowadays.
I totally agree! I've never been much of a rap fan, but I definitely prefer older rap songs to modern ones. They're incredibly repetitive, they always just mumble through the whole song, and whenever you CAN actually understand them, they always talk about horrible stuff like drugs, sex, etc.
I just want to live far away from people and not have anyone bother me while I shoot guns, grow my food, and snuggle my partner and dog
Baby-momma and baby-daddy culture is exceptionally toxic and harmful to everyone involved. I don’t care if you’re two men, two women, a man and a woman, whatever. If you have a child together, you raise that child.
Deciding to have children with your significant other is a bigger commitment than getting married. I don't understand couple's who are in their 30s and decide to have children together but refuse to get married because that's too much of a commitment. It boggles my mind. How does sharing a child for the rest of your life not scare you away but signing a legal paper does freak you out? I have a few acquaintances who are in their mid 30s and in long term relationships where they've had kids but refuse to get married because they're afraid of getting divorced.
Country music has gotten worse.
Pop music is trash now.
Pop music has ALWAYS been trash. It's formulated to capitalize on fads and make money, not be a lasting impact on society. For every pop tune that has remained popular for generations, there are a thousand more that were binned along the way.

My most "boomer" opinion is that you don't need a new car, period. Buy a good model that can survive the Apocalypse, keep it properly maintained, then laugh all the way to the bank when someone with their fancy current-year model tries to shame you for owning a 20-year-old sedan. My car's cost me less keeping it running in 5 years than a new car's lease alone costs in just a single year, and I actually OWN my car.

I think we need to really look at whether or not we’re part of the problem when we complain about something but we don’t do anything about helping to resolve our complaints. I myself try not to use the words should and shouldn’t I prefer to invite people to change not tell them to change. I have a good story to relay if you have a minute. Some people were camping in Yosemite on vacation and next to them some people pulled in and turn the stereo up really loud. After and during this for a couple of minutes the dad walked over to the young people with the loud stereo and ask them have you come to Yosemite before? Not really knowing how to react because they were expecting an argument, They started a conversation and one of the things the dad said was we come here to listen to the birds and to listen to the waterfall and to really leave our music at home because we want to hear the music of nature and we would like to invite you for dinner with us tonight.
Part two now both families vacation in Yosemite at the same time every year and they enjoy each other’s company and there’s no loud radio it’s all in how you approach things you don’t need to fight with people to get your point across you don’t need to degrade them demoralized them or tell them that the wrong. Invite change don’t demand it

People do realize that the generational labels, boomer, gen x,y,z, millennial, is all made up, that before boomers there were no generational labels, and are all used for marketing purposes. I'm a " boomer " and I wouldn't even be aware of the generational thing if it wasn't for Panda and similar media. I'm sure as hell not qualified to tell somebody how to live today. I admit it bothers me a little when they call me sir. I'd much prefer " stud. "
And Youtubers/Twitch stars, don't complain when your fps drops by 2. You have much better setups than any of your viewers. Don't rub it in. Stop with these TikTok influencers and dances. People shouldn't be copying everything they see. They should be using CREATIVITY. Don't diss 'nerds' or whatever. I love dressing in Edwardian/Victorian styles, and I get strange looks any time I go outside. I get that I'm different, but I think I look pretty, and it's none of your business anyway.
Generation labels are dumb. So much depends on how and where you were raised, rather than what year you were born. (And half of the Boomers raised Gen Xers, then divorced, remarried and raised Millenials. So are we even really 2 different generations?)
I think the youth of today are more confident in agreeing with the boomers, At their age, I would have loved sharing lots of "old fashioned" opinions as a teen, but I would have never dared for fear of ridicule. Being cool and popular was everything, geeks/teens not fitting the mould were mocked and bullied, sporties/big talkers admired. I'm in awe of this strong "I don't care what you think" generation.
Why are these "boomer" opinions? I'm Gen X and want to know why my attic ventilation system only has controls by cell phone! Maybe it's just wanting a bit of simplicity... a basic on-off switch, for example!
The reason boomers don't like GenXers or Millenials is that for the most part the younger generations are hyper-critical without having made any self-sacrificing effort to contribute to the betterment of the world, let alone the lives of the people around them. Coupled with this is the assumption that just because the evil boomer politicians who currently run the show are bent on destruction, all boomers are like that. It is quite the opposite. The self-centeredness is insulting to a generation which did make those sacrifices for the future, and who would like nothing more than to openly communicate with you, but the default has always been to shut out the aging people from society in the Western World, so it really isn't a surprise.

As a Boomer....thank you. I agree with so many of these things! I don't upgrade every year...maybe every 5 years for anything. Finally donated my car of almost 20 years with 185,000 miles on it to Habitat for Humanity...I prefer used books (real ones!) that we can read at home, then send on to others. And honestly...not all Boomers are bad people. :)
