40 Times People Saw Infuriating ‘Choosing Beggars’ In Action And Just Had To Share (New Pics)
We all know the saying 'beggars can't be choosers?' but time and time again people like to challenge this idea by doing the exact opposite. Here at Bored Panda, we love to share some absurd stories and nothing is quite as ridiculous as choosing beggars who take no issue with asking for handouts - but only on their own inconsiderate terms.
The following list is a collection of posts from the internet of the best of the worst of these cheapskate types. From haggling over price points to roasting their loved ones for thoughtful gifts scroll down to check out these ridiculously rude people and don't forget to upvote your favs!

A Brilliant Way To Deal With "Influencers"
That's how you find the true influencers vs the scammers and s**t heads
It's a good trait to be generous - but it's also good to know when you're being taken advantage of. Not everyone has the skills to say "no" to moochers, users, and choosy beggars, so Bored Panda has collected some various tips. First, it is important to communicate the boundaries or conditions around what you are giving to them.

This Groomer Is Definitely Prepared For All The Choosing Beggars
If you want to help, haggle or handout - go for it- but also know that it is ok to say "no"! Some people take generosity to mean that you can be pushed to give more and more. If someone has assumed that your niceness means that you won't say no, respectfully remind them of your limits. In some cases, people won't want to continue to have transactions after you turn them down, and that's ok.
I Won't Invite You To My Baby Shower, But You Better Get Me A Gift
It's insane and spoiled to expect someone to get you a thing for an occasion they weren't invited to! It's like expecting someone to get you a wedding present without inviting them to the wedding
They probably think its OK to ask for a wedding present without invite you to the wedding...
Load More Replies...A brother that doesn't invite his sister for a baby shower is a douchebag. A brother that nonetheless expects a gift from his sister is an a*****e.
The SIL is very rude, firstly for expecting gifts and secondly expecting gifts from someone who wasn’t invited. So selfish.
Sure! But you owe me 38 and my kid 4, that makes it 42.. Wanna call it even?😁😁
Load More Replies...If etiquette rules don't apply then they need to park their own expectations at the door.
Right !!!!!! Ahahha was thinking same thing like wait what about their abhorrent behavior demanding money and/or gifts... That is just rotten to the core. I wouldn't buy them anything but a gag plastic poop pile 😁
Load More Replies...Etiquette doesn't matter. She's family and she should have been invited to the baby shower. If you didn't want her there..then apparently you are the one with the problem and, therefore, need to get over said problem before expecting a gift. It would be like approaching your husbands ex and saying "why didn't you get us a wedding gift?"
This ranks up there with getting the graduation announcement for distant relative's kid you have never met. They would be better off sending a card that says "SHOW ME THE MONEY."
Exactly. Some family members only appear when money or gifts are involved.
Load More Replies...I think the entitled SIL needs to look up what a "gift" is.
They might as well send a gift registry to there whole neighborhood...
Baby showers are a ridiculous concept to begin with. When I got preggers, everyone kept asking me when I'd be having my baby shower. When I'd reply with, never, I'm not having one... people would be like "what?! Why not?" Why? Because why the f**k should my friends and family fund my pregnancy? I got pregnant, so therefore baby daddy and I should be the one's responsible enough to have the money to buy my baby all the stuff it needs. If you cant afford to buy your baby all the c**p it needs, well then you damn well shouldn't be having it in the first place! It is downright absurd.
I need to upvote this a million times, unfortunately I can't. You don't believe there are people like this, but there are.
I have always disliked the whole concept of "you owe me a gift". I thought the main purpose of invitations to b-days and showers and such was to share in the experience. Buy a gift if you feel moved to do so. But enough with the requirements. It's just plain silly. It's a mentality that alot of men have when dating. I took you out to dinner and a walk in the park and a movie... whaddya mean you won't sleep with me? Spending time with someone is NOT considered an investment with tangible payoff.
How convenient to fall back on family relations when it suits. You don't want someone to attend a family event, don't invite them and still expect them to honor the family tie? Maybe it just doesn't work that way. Either I'm part of the family or I'm not. Pure and simple politeness works if family ties don't.
Invited or not, she does not owe the SIL anything. Nada, zip, zilch.
I don´t understand the SIL, if you don´t get along with someone and obviously don´t want to hang out with someone, why you expect gifts from that person??
SIL was the one being rude by not inviting "immediate family" to the shower. Would love to know the back story on that one! I live 3000 miles from most of my family members and I still get invited to all the occasions (weddings, showers, graduations ,etc.). Probably because they want that gift lol
It would have been better to purchase one pack of baby wipes as a gift. Especially if those are the ones for $1 .
Sad thing is, this kind of expectations undermines all motivation to voluntarily give people a present. The whole concept of a baby shower (shower ? really? you want to be showered with presents?) is so strange. I get getting together to celebrate and have some food (most people would probably bring a small gift as a gesture anyway), but this just screams "I invite you so you buy me something!". Wow.
I cant stand baby showers. If you're going to have a baby, then you better make damn sure YOU can afford it, not expect your friends and fam to fund it. Its f*****g absurd.
Load More Replies...In my country we do not organize anything like a baby shower. If someone wants to buy a gift for the baby and/or the mother, they can do it and bring it for the first visit.
These are the people looking for financiers for their lives. What a shame. So in his theory, she should have showed up to the baby shower anyway, ate all the food and drank all the booze, and tailgated in the driveway. Without bringing a gift.
Why on earth wouldn't you invite your sister-in-law to a baby shower?
You have a couple of weeks to spare? I can start...
Load More Replies...Everything about this makes me angry! Unbelievable! Good for you, stand your ground!
I'm not sure which is worse (a) Not inviting someone and expecting a gift, or (b) Inviting someone that you hardly know because then they have to buy you a gift.
That SIL is a greedy little douche who had no business demanding a present from someone who was not even invited. You were right in not getting them a gift. P**s on them!
Now that’s some serious cheek... What he got her? The same they gave, sweet FA
One cannot demand that other people love you, one also cannot command other people to bring gifts - unless one is a tyrant!
I would never consider NOT buying a gift for my niece or nephew. forget the parents
Calling up guests that you did NOT invite and ask what gift they are giving them is vulgar. Your brother married classless trash.
Entitled and rude to boot. No party invitation even though you're ''immediate family?'' The only appropriate gift would be one to give to their child when he can read - about manners and ways to cope with parents who make up their own inane and nasty rules.
I just had the same scenario about my granddaughter's grad from college.
Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie. I'm not going to blame this on "today's young people", I've seen "gimmie" for years and years.
Literally agree with this. "Yeah you're not welcome to celebrate this forthcoming child but GET IT A PRESENT BECAUSE YOU'RE FAMILY"
I feel sorry for lady having to deal with this. The brother should have had the balls to stand up to his wife and said that his sister is coming to the shower. Put whatever feelings you have aside for each for your future niece or nephew....
SIL actually *asked* you what you got her?? In the old days, that used to be called "unmitigated gall". Some freakin' nerve.
Lol I love how the brother says the etiquette rules don't apply. So you're thinking you don't have to invite him, but because he's FAMILY he still has to buy a present? GTFO. It's because he's family that you should have to invite him. If you don't, then don't expect a present.
Who doesn’t invite their own sister to such an event?! You owe them nothing.
Who the hell doesn't invite the husbands siblings? I don't particularly care for my honey's sister, but I still invite her to all events because I'm always trying to be the better person.
SIL is just plain mental and defs shouldn't have expected a gift off of the registry in particular since she didn't even invite her, but I think of my brother was having a baby, I wouldn't need a baby shower invite to get his baby something, even if I didn't like the wife... hmmm I think both parties are kinda silly
If she's not invited to the party, she won't be allowed to be part of the baby's life either. So, why spend money on a present? I don't know what the "background issues" are here, but it sounds as if the sil thinks she's better than the rest of us. I've seen enough of the s**t in my own family, and, believe me, the best you can do is to set limits as soon as possible.
Load More Replies...Dear Abby would say you're both being petty, and that baby deserves better all around.
Dear Abby was living in the '50s, when people might be able to afford a gift for a shower they weren't invited to, for a kid they'll probably never get to see because the parents are trash.
Load More Replies...This could also be the open door that will have you buying baby/kid gifts the rest of their lives.
Why on earth would anyone buy a baby shower gift? The kid is not even born!
If etiquette doesn't matter then why WOULDNT you invite your own brother/brother in law to the baby shower? I mean he is your brother and the unborn child's uncle
Gift registries are... just... SUCH... a strange habit. I mean, ok, I get that it's a convenient way to not get double gifts, but it just feels so... strict. :')
There are so many folks on my partner's side I do not want to invite to my baby shower, but I'm not an a-hole. Hence the large number of friend (chosen family) invited to deflect them.
They may have been d***s for not inviting her, but she was a d**k for not buying something for the kids. Doesn't have to be in the gift registry, some baby grows or a box of nappies the gifts are for the benefit of the kids and the kids didn't do anything to her.

Don't let yourself be consumed by guilt - set your boundaries and stick to them. Just because you can be accommodating doesn't mean you should. Most of us are taught it is a social norm to share what we have with those less fortunate, but giving back doesn't mean sacrificing your worth. Sure you can afford to cut a little off a price, but you are not responsible for other people's financial burdens. Remember if you give an inch to someone who is trying to take advantage they will want more.
Choosing Beggar
Two years ago I saw that guy with the gas can begging for money. Tried to give him four dollars, but he said he doesn’t take anything less than five. After that I saw him there everyday for months. Turns out he’s a fraud with a new Jeep and a nice house. Been following him with this sign since.
This Guy Gets It
I've had the pleasure of such an experience. A colleague of mine, who was in the marketing department (she was just playing Candy Crush all day long most of the times) came to me with a purely illogical and physically impossible request, for a packaging. I politely tried to explain her using her very limited technological knowledge and abilities, that it cannot be done, why it cannot be done, and that I'm not gonna waste my time doing that. I also offered her alternative solutions. Her reaction: "OK!!! Then I'LL DO IT!! It can't be that hard." I gave her my seat, took a step back and enjoyed the rest of the show. She sits on my chair, adjusts it for a minute, stares at the Illustrator window for 10 seconds and says "OK, now TELL me what to do next!!!" I burst into laugh and invited her out of my office before she deletes something important.
Lastly, don't feel bad when you shame a freeloader. We should always treat others with respect but in some cases, you need to be extra firm. "A freeloader really cares nothing for your needs and thoughts, even if they convince you that they do. They also rarely care for normal social etiquette."

Lady Wants Barely-Used Computer For $25
The expression 'Beggars can't be choosers'? first recorded into print in 1546, when it appeared in a book of proverbs compiled by John Heywood. The first form was written as 'Folk say alway, beggars should be no choosers.' Another similar proverb from a different angle is, 'If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride,' which is more rarely used.

Don't read pirated books if you can't afford to buy new ones.

I actually had a guy standing on the corner at Granville Island in Vancouver, begging people for a dollar so he could buy a beer. He said "I'va had a bad day. I need a beer. So if you could spare a buck, I'd really appreciate it. And if you want to just buy me the beer..I'd be ok with that. We can sit and talk..but I really need a beer. Can someone just spare a dollar?" I walked up to him and said "I appreciate your honesty..here's $5..get two beers." He responded with "Bless you ma'am! I thank you and my liver thanks you." And off he went to the nearest bar.

We can blame these all on the "participation trophy" trend, i.e. everybody deserves something whether they work for it or not.
Alot of the above is just dealing with scammers in retail situations. Most don't actually apply to a homeless person begging on the street, and it's dangerous to allow the implication to remain. Basically what I would say to all the a******s on this story. “You dense mother f****r”
I will never understand some people's ability to complain about free stuff. The first time I encountered this phenomena I was at a ~free~ concert being headlined by a fairly well known band, with an also well known band (that I actually came to see, not the headliner) opening for them. The crowd booed the first band off the stage chanting the headliner's name after only playing like 2 songs. Sometimes humanity can be incredibly disappointing. I had been wanting to see that band play for years. Sigh.
So many of these make me think of that line from the Kids In The Hall's "Decaf" sketch: "B***H, ARE YOU FOR REAL??!?!?!??!"
