The World Health Organization has announced time and again that COVID-19 vaccines have proven to be safe, effective and life-saving.

What’s even better is that the new analysis by PHE found for the first time that 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have proven to be “highly effective against hospitalization from the Delta (B.1.617.2) variant.” So as the contagious new variant is sweeping across the country, getting a COVID-19 shot is now basically a matter of not getting severe complications, and for some, it’s a matter of life and death.

But when it seems like all the evidence of the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination is more than obvious, some people still find the excuse of not getting it. And honestly, some of their reasoning is beyond insane.

From believing that a COVID-19 shot will turn you into a living zombie to claiming that Jesus himself is enough of “a protector and a mask” to protect from the virus, it’s one hell of a read. Treat it as a sci-fi read at most or utter craziness, and scroll through some of the worst excuses people shared online down below.

Ever since the pandemic emerged, vaccine skeptics have pointed to the fact that the coronavirus vaccines were available only under emergency-use authorizations. Mysterious ways is such a bullsh-i-t cop-out. The bible describes god as an all-knowing, all-powerful, all-good, perfect being with a divine plan. If he had all of those attributes, then he would be directly responsible for COVID and every other disaster. You don't get to credit god for good things, and not hold him accountable for bad things. You're just obtuse, ill-informed, and inconsistent. You are also taking credit away from doctors, scientists, and essential workers and placing that credit on a fictional being. Do you have any good reason to think any god even exists?

Doesn’t the Bible also say “The Lord helps those who help themselves”? Why haven’t any of the holy rollers mentioned this? Seems pretty straightforward to me that you’re not supposed to just sit and wait for some divine event to help you. Go out and do it yourself. So, help yourselves by getting vaccinated!

That's not actual scripture, but there are many quotes in the bible that support the idea, mostly in the context of providing for yourself and your family. There is also a good passage in Matthew 4:7 where Jesus is told to throw himself off the temple to prove that god would save him. He replies that scripture tells us that we should not test God. So, yeah, Christians thinking God is going to save them when they put themselves in harm's way are very much ignoring this.

An Anishinaabe man told me about his deity: "The Creator puts opportunities in your path and it's up to you to take them." I'm an atheist and it made absolute sense to me: you're an adult with free will, so make a smart decision. He then told me a story (I've also heard it from Jewish sources) to illustrate the point. A bit long, so here' s a link: https://www.michaelhartzell.com/blog/the-story-about-a-jeep-a-boat-and-a-helicopter

The vaccine is effective for the wuhan type, it’s a fact that it’s not 100% effective for the other variety that is now passing by. It’s also a fact that no one knows what the vaccine wil do to your body in a few years. The professors admitted this. So if you want to compare facts .. you believe in a vaccine without knowing what it will do to you in a few years, like people believe in god without knowing if he really exist. Same isn’t it? get your information right when you want to public information and don’t say thing in your perspective. Respect people who believe I’m god like you believe in the government who tells you the vaccine will heal this pandemic. Ps: I am not an antivaxer.

It is amazing to me that the Pope's word is supposed to be the word of God, which faithful Catholics follow without question, but as soon as the Pope announces something that strikes at their prejudices (love your LGBTQ+ children, get the vaccine) some of them deny the word and choose their own path.

But seriously... I'm a Christian and see too many of my fellow Christians who pick and choose which parts of Scripture they're going to believe in. A popular verse for these times is 2 Timothy 1:7: "For God has not given us a spirit of fear..." but they don't read to the end of that verse, which says what we HAVE been given: spirits "of power and of love and of a SOUND MIND." Those last two words are pivotal. To me, they mean we are not to fear, but do what we KNOW to do, including taking the vaccine.

Reminds me of a joke where a man was trapped on the roof of his house during floods. A guy came along in a little row-boat & offered to help, but the man said “No thanks. God will save me”. Then a coastguard boat came to him & told him to come down, but he again said “No. God will save me”. Then a helicopter comes out & a guy on a rope says “Come on, we’re here to rescue you!”, but he again said “No thank you. God will save me.” Then he eventually dies of starvation & asks God “Why didn’t you save me?” & He said “Goddamn it, I sent you 2 boats & a helicopter! What more did you expect?!” ... LOL. 💀😂

First you would have to prove a god even exists. Then you would have to prove that a god gave us the ability to produce the vaccine. We need a world with scientifically literate, rational, and skeptical people. Yes, take the vaccine. But, take it for real and good reasons. Be skeptical of vaccines if you want, be skeptical of everything. But, do real, scientific research on them, college peer-reviewed level of research, not arm-chair google-only research. If the vaccines really were harmful, go prove it with hard science and earn yourself a Nobel Prize. Apply that same, high-college-level of research and study to the bible if you think the claims in the book are true. In doing actual research, you are going to improve yourself vastly and you're going to dump a lot of falsities. You may not be rewarded for taking the vaccine. Unfortunately sometimes good people are punished and bad people get away with their crimes. Try to make actual justice in this world when possible, no gods will.

We have something saying about this in Arabic as example: There was a priest who went overboard in sea and lost. After a few hours a boat came by and offered help. The priest sad, I don’t need any help, I trust in god who will help me. Hours went by and a rescue team came. They offers help but the priest said the same, I don’t need help, I trust in god. Hours went by and he couldn’t swim of exhausting and died. When he came to god the priest sad he was disappointed in god who he trusted and loved. Gods reply was: I send held the first time and you didn’t accept it, I send you help for the second time and also didn’t accept it. What els did you excepted from me. Off-topic: stop judging people by their choices and respect that. For example: if someone doesn’t want to be vaccinated, who are we to judge that or make them to. It’s their body not yours or mine. Are you afraid, do something about it yourself. Take distance from people, don’t shake hands and wash your hands.

Some employ arguments found on fake news websites, others go deep into conspiracy theories that revolve around mistrust in government and science. So in order to find out what’s at the root of the mind of vaccine sceptics and COVID denialists, we reached out to Robert Gifford, a Professor of Psychology and Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria.

Robert is best known for his “The Dragons of Inaction: Diagnosing and Slaying the Barriers to Positive Climate and Environmental Action” study. According to this theory, these dragons are a compendium of psychological barriers that hinder a person’s desired actions. Robert argues that “they have mainly been gathered to help explain why a person agrees that climate change and environmental sustainability are important problems, yet does not take enough action to effectively deal with those problems.”

“However, the dragons may apply to other things, such as COVID denial,” he explained and continued: “In particular, without data, my opinion is that COVID denial is strongly related to Mistrust, one of the Discredence genus of dragons. Deniers do not like scientists and governments (unless they are populist governments that also are skeptical about both COVID and climate change).”

The professor continued: “Of course the Mistrust dragon is rooted in the Limited Cognition genus dragons called Ignorance and Confirmation Bias (that is, lack of factual knowledge and the tendency to pay attention to media that echoes one’s existing beliefs).”

When asked what to do when encountering a COVID denier, Robert suggested keeping an extra-large distance. “That’s about all that one can do. The other approaches are futile,” he said.

Literally nothing in life is risk-free, but which risk would you rather take: the slim risk of side effects from a highly tested & researched vaccine being used by a large portion of the world, or the risk of losing your child to an easily preventable disease?

I do not know about you, but I normally set the goal a bit higher than just surviving.

Sure, let's spread the news that this works. Now everyone, go get vaccinated to get the government off your back then do this potato thing that's definitely going to work. Go ahead, go get jabbed. I'll buy potatoes for everybody, just go get your shot.

There is some truth to this “SOME” being the operative word. Kids raised in super clean environments are more likely to suffer from things like allergies, this is due to the immune system not having to work, so it ends up attacking more things we commonly come into contact with, like asthma which can result in death. Google the term “Bored Immune System” to start your education
